I recently visited Solana Beach Kitchen and honestly had such a great experience that I had to share. From the moment we arrived, the service really stood out. The manager, Andrea, along with Tara, took amazing care of me and my friends. They were attentive without being overbearing, super friendly, and made us feel genuinely welcome the whole time, which is something you don't always get. I ordered an Aperol Spritz, (if you ever ordered, please get it with campari. we also got a margarita, both were perfectly made. The spritz was refreshing and well-balanced, and the margarita was just as good, not too sweet and really smooth. Definitely a great start to the night. The food was just as impressive. Everything came out surprisingly fast, especially considering how good it was. You can tell there's real attention to quality and flavor. The ambiance is another highlight. It has this relaxed, chill vibe but still feels put together and a little bit "cute" in the best way. It's the kind of place that works perfectly whether you're going on a date, catching up with friends, or just want a nice casual dinner without it feeling basic. Tried SB Kitchen for lunch. Sat outside under an umbrella. Plenty of parking during lunch and the shopping center this is part of had a parking garage at the back. Service was okay. I had to remind the waitress I hadn't gotten my drink and had to ask for the check at the end. The food was just okay. I got the Hot Chick chicken sandwich and my friend got the classic burger and we split them. Neither had much flavor, which really surprised me with the chicken sandwich as it's supposed to be Cajun spiced. We both paid the extra $4 to change the fries to truffle fries. SB Kitchen has been a regular place to eat with each visit to Solana Beach. I really enjoy the fresh items they serve. Favorites are: the wedge salad, the steak frites, the chicken sandwich and the truffle fries, so delicious! A new favorite is the lobster bisque, one of the best I have had. The open air seating is a real plus. Even when sitting inside, the air flows throughout the restaurant. Usually, the service is very good. Recently though, had a rough visit. The person that was sort of taking care of our table was curt, abrupt, uninterested and didn't seem to care when we ordered something, it didn't arrive to the table because they didn't put the order in. When mentioned, they shrugged it off in a somewhat snarky way. Other tables seemed to be well taken care of. Great spacious place to meet up with friends. We came here on a Thursday for trivia night. The lady who ran the trivia night was great. It was so fun to have eat and drink while playing trivia. I had an espresso martini and the Mother's Day special cocktail ( forgot the name but it was purple, yummy and pretty.) I ordered the jalapeno deviled eggs for appetizer and the chicken shawarma with truffles fries for my entree. Deviled eggs were very good, but didn't taste spicy at all which was fine with me. The chicken shwarma was ok. Im glad I upgraded the fries to truffle fries which reminded me of McDs fries but 100 times better. Why is this well rated? It was terrible. The floors and bar counters were sticky. No one seems to be in charge. Solana Beach Kitchen has a good menu, reasonable prices, and friendly service. The food tasted good, and it initially seemed like a solid casual option. That said, my partner and I both had upset stomachs for starting approximately 4 hours afterward. I can't say with certainty that it was caused by the restaurant, but it was the only food we had in common that day, so it left us concerned. Unlike the other restaurants around it, Solana Beach Kitchen also wasn't very busy on a weekend evening, which added to the uncertainty. This is our first time at this restaurant the food, the service and the staff did not disappoint. the sourdough was amazing and the jam was to die for! I ordered the Med Head Salad with Chicken. The chicken lacked flavor, but the texture was great. The salad dressing had a nice balsamic vinaigrette taste which was my favorite part and the fresh tomatoes. My friend wasn't a fan of her Chicken Caesar Salad. Dog friendly patio, amazing food and fast service! I started with the shrimp dippers and they were delicious. Cooked perfectly with a nice crisp on the outside. The dipping sauces were a perfect pairing. For my main course, I had the chicken poblano sandwich and it was cooked to perfection. Juicy, perfectly seasoned and the overall flavor was spot on. The restaurant was pretty dead when we got there and that was perfectly fine with us. We had our pick of seats, and the service was super friendly and attentive. We shared the cauliflower and the nachos. The curry aïoli and pomegranate seeds on the cauliflower was so good. This was the servers #1 rec. The Surf & Turf Nachos (carne asada, shrimp, guac) was amazing. My only gripe is the chips were a bit too thin to hold the weight. Still crispy (my favorite style), just needed a little more structure. Also there was a hot sauce situation. I asked for hot sauce and the only option was Sriracha. No bueno for nachos. A classic hot sauce or homemade salsa would've leveled it up even more. For dessert, my friend crushed the chocolate cake... the entire thing. So clearly it was good. Really glad we went. Reminds me of Mendocino Farms but with delicious alcoholic drinks and a friendly server to take your order at the table. There wasn't automatic gratuity for a party of 6+, which is rare these days. My dad loved his burger. My tofu salad was a bit salty for my liking (I'm sensitive to salt though). My brother loved his spicy Cobb salad with chicken. It was a personal preference on both the beef skewer and chicken shawarma. Some liked it while others didn't. The Hot Chick (medium spice) was not too spicy, nice bun with big piece of chicken. I went on a Saturday night for dinner around 5 pm and was able to be seated right away since there were only a few customers. The host was somewhat friendly. I ordered the fish and chips and a kid's chicken tenders. I didn't care for the fish and chips because the coleslaw was on the fries, which made the fries soggy and it came with pickled veggies which didn't go with the coleslaw. The fish was decent. I had two. *Whiskey Garden drink my friend had two as well. Our cocktails were smooth and not over powering. I came with my fellow Yelp friend Nicole C. we had a mixed experience dining here for dinner. great, friendly service with a full house of dogs on the patio which was nice to see. the servers were also accommodating of dietary restrictions at the table which was very appreciated. we started with truffle fries, which were pretty standard (and delicious) along with the jalapeño deviled eggs. the fried jalapeño added a nice crunch, but i wish the egg had some paprika or another punch to it. overall, the starters left us with high hopes for our entrees. i ordered the truffle mushroom risotto, which i enjoyed! i thought the flavor of the truffle came through nicely and the mushrooms were cooked well. however, others at my table that ordered meat with their entree were disappointed. beef skewers were extremely chewy, and the steak was filled with fatty bits. hit or miss experience, so be careful what you order! read more

Well I'm not sure what is happening here. I used to love eating here because the food was so good and reasonable. The last two visits have been weirdly disappointing. The last time I ordered the spicy Cobb salad and it costs 18 by itself . So you get a nice big salad with lots of toppings. This time it came out on a really small plate and was like a side order. Not much on it and pretty disappointing. Last night I had the chicken allepo. It's like they cut the chicken pieces in half. It all came piled up on a tiny plate? What is the idea behind this? I couldn't see the food and it fell all over the counter. It cost 34$ so I'm not sure why it is now on a tiny plate. It's ridiculous and I am not going back. I love the staff there. Tracy and Ashley are the heart of the restaurant but the cost is just too high to be served on side plates. The silverware, however, has improved . I don't think cutting down on portion sizes is going to bring in business. And serving it like they did is even worse. read more

I came here on a Wednesday for lunch around 1:30. There was plenty of parking and open seating, so we grabbed a high-top table outside in the dog-friendly area. We were greeted right away. I ordered the chicken sandwich and swapped the fries for a salad. It was honestly the biggest chicken sandwich I've ever had--the meat was thick and cooked perfectly. The salad was fresh, and the tomatoes tasted like they were organic. My friend had the brisket sandwich with fries, which were thin-cut and really well done. Really tried to brush our experience off as a bad night for this restaurant and for my family, but it still irks me the way we were treated by the (presumed) manager. I informed the staff I had food allergies, apologized for ordering poorly & asked for a replacement drink. Even offered to pay for the one I couldn't drink. The drink I sent back was brought back to my table & I was told I would be fine. I politely declined & asked for another drink. The new drink was slammed on the table by the male manager who later aggressively asked "If everything was ok now?!" while throwing his arms out. I was sick for two days after. The situation could have been handled professionally by checking first before publicly confronting me in front of my guest and other people nearby. Not only had I paid, but the accusation was embarrassing and unnecessary. It made both me and my guest feel singled out and humiliated. There's plenty of free parking so you have no excuses to give them a try. You should absolutely get the Habibi's Hummus. I would get this dish every single time I come here. The hummus is fantastic and comes with veggies and other things for your dipping pleasure. I was a little disappointed with the Brisket Sandy. It is a barbecued brisket sandwich and it is good-sized but the flavor didn't knock me out. There was a lot of slaw on it (probably a little too much) and the slaw and the overall sandwich were a little dry. The Roasted Beet salad, with arugula and goat cheese, is very nice. The ingredients tasted very fresh. If you are into beets and/or goat cheese and/or good health, this one is for you. The cocktail choices are extensive and most of them sound very good. I went with the DIY Margarita with mezcal and it was nice and smoky. I have no idea if the mezcal used was any good but it was strong and hit the spot. Service was mostly very good. Stopped by for lunch one afternoon and we were thoroughly impressed with the quality of the food. Lobster bisque was truly one of the best I've ever had! We also had the delicious and sassy jalapeño deviled eggs, a super fresh and very tasty beet salad and excellent fish and chips. The fish was high quality, well cooked and not mushy in the least. Came in a group of 6, asked to have it be separate checks. Manager came over to say that each table can only have the check split into 4 separate checks at the most per table. Okayyyyyyyy never had that happen before. But l guess there's a first for everything. I ordered the mac n cheese. It was creamy and has good reviews but it lacked flavor. I had ordered it with bacon and broccoli but salted it probably 4 times. I also don't need a ton of salt in my food but my friend had a bite after l initially salted it and said it was bland. Salting it further really didn't help, sadly. Friend had the salmon with chimichurri. Said it was delicious. I don't eat seafood but l did try the chimichurri and it was in fact very tasty! We went to celebrate my friend's bday and she ordered their cookie. The first thing we noticed was it has sesame seeds on top but that isn't noted in their menu at all! I have another friend who is allergic to sesame so not disclosing that in this day and age seems crazy. The cookie itself is cold, hard, dry and topped with ice cream. Overall, not great. Our server was good and attentive. Probably the only positive here. When we went to pay, one of our friends gave cash and the server said cash wasn't accepted here. I didn't think that was legal. But found it very odd the restaurant wouldn't want to cut down on their cc fees. We surmised that with the inflated prices, those cc fees were added onto the cost of the food. We won't be back. A few weeks ago, we stayed in Solana Beach during a trip to San Diego and after checking into the hotel, we took a brisk walk over to Solana Beach Kitchen. We were able to get seated very quickly and enjoyed a nice meal of fried calamari (my son gobbled that up), I had a chicken shawarma wrap and my husband had a salmon dish. My son had some chicken fingers and fries. (They do have a kids menu that isn't on their website.) Portions were large and food was tasty. The restaurant got very busy and their kitchen got kind of slammed. My order was wrong but our waitress got that corrected immediately. No prob at all. The only real issue was when we walked in, the young staff member at the front was getting a very stern talking to from who I can only assume is the manager. That's putting it nicely.
