All of his crews were the most hard working people I have ever seen. Every day they were here waiting to start at 7 am. If I had any questions they were answered quickly. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. We moved to Irvine and purchased a new construction home that required "full on" landscaping. There were multiple landscaping companies to choose from, and we frequently received many flyers and solicitations. As we were walking through our neighborhood, we noticed a home with landscaping that really stood out among all the rest. The truck that was parked in front of the home was labeled Landmark Custom Landscape. We made an appointment for a consultation. The owner, Tom Chung, came out to discuss all the details. From our consultation, we could tell that Tom was very passionate about his work. He explained that he had over 30 years of experience, and landscaping runs in his family. Landmark Custom Landscape provided us with: Free consultation with hard copy and 3D computer renderings of the landscaping plans. Submitted our plans to our HOA and the City of Irvine, obtaining permits, making it a very simple, no hassles process for us. Hardscape crew (6-8 workers at our home, M-F, 7a-4p, and Sat, 8a-4p) Softscape crew (6 workers at our home, M-F, 7a-4p, and Sat, 8a-4p) In house electrician/ carpenter/plumber/botanist Regarding the work crews, they were hard working, respectful and tidied up every day. Landmark's botanist is a tree and plant design specialist. I can't write enough good things about her. She is knowledgeable, patient, and really cares about her work and clients. She walks you through the process of picking out trees--fruit, deciduous, and evergreen, and assorted plants and flowers that will thrive in your area. She will meet you at the nursery, if you want a first hand look at some of the trees she will purchase for your property. This is not necessary, however, as she is very capable of picking out the perfect trees and plants for your yard. We were just very "picky" and wanted to be involved in the process. Lastly, she supervised the placement of all the trees and plants in our yard. Our final thoughts about Landmark Custom Landscape: The entire team seemed happy to be at work doing what they did, day in and day out; and, this is "hard labor." I never had any bad interactions when I had additional requests or ideas; they were quick to do them. The owner, Tom Chung, is a talented designer, detailed and an out of the box thinker, willing to try new design ideas, including things he has never done before. This makes his designs unique and fresh! He took the items on our wish list and improved upon them. There is almost nothing he cannot do or fix. His crews respect him, and it shows in their workmanship and attitudes. There is definitely a feeling of cohesiveness in the crews and pride in their workmanship. Many of the men in his crews have been with him for 10-20 years. Landmark Custom Landscape comes with a higher price than other landscaping companies, but it is a fair price for the quality of service, workmanship and materials utilized. From start to finish Tom Chung and his entire team delivered! Before we committed to using Landmark, Tom created virtual drawings of what our yard would look like! Landmark is a professional and dependable landscaping company. From start to finish the process was very smooth. The project started with a 3D modeling of the design so we can visualize what a finished product would look like. We were then able to choose the hardscape material from their own showroom without needing to visit various places. The project started immediately and they finished it on time without any delay. They worked 6 days a week, non-stop, to finish our project. Tom, the owner, is very responsive. He replied to our requests/questions via text almost immediately all the time. The field supervisors, Roberto and Eric, were all very supportive of all of our requests. After seeing the yelp review and the brochure they left out of my door, I want to give them a try, while the lady who answered the phone is just kinda rude, she keep asking me for my budget, and tell me the minimum budget should be over 60K, I said it's fine and I'm willing to spend more as long as they have great design, and I've no how much it's gonna cost for the features I wanted in my yard. She doesn't listen and keep asking my budget. Later, She asked my address, I spelled it to her at least six times, and she was keep interrupting me "I can't understand you. Top notch! I can't say enough good things about Landmark. They are worth the time and money. We had just bought a new home and were looking for a trustworthy company to employ. We've had our fair share of shadowy groups. We talked to several different other companies to compare and didn't really feel good about the designs presented. We just happened across Landmark because we admired the work and craftsmanship of another house they were working on down our street. So we scheduled for an appointment. Truth be said, it took a couple of calls and messages to hear back from them. However I now know why that is the case- he is so dedicated to giving his best to the people he has committed to that it's a wonder he has any time at all. Upon embarking with Landmark, you'll meet up with Tom. From the get go, you'll feel his passion for beauty and perfection. I was actually skeptical at first when he did not sketch anything on paper for us to conceptualize but he promised to return in a few days with something. Boy did he keep his word. He came up with a beautifully colored design with 3D rendering and panning animation that was simply amazing. Most important is the stuff he drew up truly captured what we felt what we would happily call home. Elements that I would never consider but am so glad he did. Shortly after signing the contract his team went straight to work. I mean WORK. He had a crew of 6 to 8 people most days working rain or shine. Depending on what they had to do, the guys would come back even after it rained. Simply unbelievable. The work progressed always on schedule and his assistant designers contacted us at the appropriate time to help define and choose a cohesive color scheme and design palette. His softscape/plant guy was also clearly knowledgeable about his work. He knew what would thrive in our area and tried his hardest to get our must haves fulfilled. Above all, his recommendations were spot (speaking months after now, all plants are thriving). Our yard feels like an tranquil space. Whenever I called on Tom, he answered and/or texted right away. Wherever I felt something didn't feel right with the build, he'd change things (within reason of course since plans had to be pre-approved by the HOA). Above it all, Tom was always straightforward and truthful. The best part of it all, the project was completed on time. Tom or his supervisory delegates were here daily to make sure that the project moved forward. PLUS, they cleaned up daily. No litter or scattered tool to step on or get hurt by. They sincerely tried to give us a reprieve from all the mess inherent with construction. Some of the small stuff that really capped it off was how everything was precisely measured. From measuring distance of flower placement to laser leveling the floor to sanding down the edges of the corner tiles so that the kids have extra piece of protection. Need I say more? Tom and his crew completed our yard in May 2016. We had him install the hardscape and drainage in our front yard and the hardscape, drainage, pool and spa in our backyard. We had several companies come out and provide us with estimates. Although he was on the higher side, we ultimately selected Tom because of the quality work he did on our neighbor's house and the shorter timeline he promised (6-8 weeks compared to 12-16 weeks from other contractors). In an effort to cut costs, we subcontracted another company to install the soft scape and landscape lighting. Tom coordinated everything with the subcontractor and worked with them to make sure the install was complete by the deadline he promised. Looking back, hiring a subcontractor to install the soft scape and lighting was a huge mistake. While it saved us money up front, it ended up costing us in the long run because of the poor quality of plants which resulted in us having to replace approximately 50% of the plants they planted. Conversely, the plants that Tom installed at my neighbor's house are still thriving and look great. While there were a couple hiccups along the way (mainly due to lack of communication on both ends), Tom did everything he said he would. His team completed the job in the timeline he said they would and, when there were issues, he offered solutions that were fair and reasonable for both parties. Most importantly, in the 3+ years since his team finished the install, Tom has continued to stand by his work by making his team available to address the minor issues that have popped up. I LOVE OUR BACKYARD! Wow, Tom is great! Both my father and step father are general contractors so I am very familiar with how construction works and I was VERY impressed with Landmarks work! Tom the owner does FREE design estimates. I messaged him on a Sunday and he was out the very next day Monday to look at our yard and measure everything to come up with a free design. He returned a week later with a full color architectural drawing. I loved it. He had really listened to everything we wanted in our yard and had put it all on paper. His price estimates are all very clear too; the prices were all very detailed -Flooring $x, Fire pit $x, Plants $x, Demo $x, Lighting $x etc.... It made it really easy when we decided to change a couple little things as we could just cross them off the list. We decided to have them do our yard and they broke ground that same week on Friday - talk about speedy! I was also impressed that we were NOT nickled and dimed. There were a couple little things we changed like adding a little curb to our planter beds, extending the BBQ etc and he was great about not charging for the little things. We did upgrade a few things as well and of course we were charged for those but they were large items like adding iphone controls for our pool etc.. Tom is a one stop shop, hes got the entire crew for very little detail and you will only have to deal with him which is great. He was good at getting back to me quickly with text and email. His crew was great. Ive never seen so many hard workers on a job site. They would work straight through from 7am-4pm and you could always see progress at the end of the day.The crew was also great about tidying up at the end of the day with putting all their tools in one area, sweeping the driveway and walk ways, using tarps to cover materials and cones at the end of the driveway. Our yard took about 8 weeks to finish and its a great outdoor living space. Everyone who comes over is amazed at how our yard seems to have doubled in size. I'd highlly recommend Landmark! My project is finally complete. We had some flooding and broken sprinkler pipe issues but Tom repaired everything that needed repair. This a good company. Tom is full of great ideas. His designs are much more detail orientated than his competition. I can't give Landmark Custom Landscape five stars because of the issues with Tom not sticking to the quality of materials that we originally agreed to. He did give me a refund so that I could find another contractor to provide the materials and labor. I wish he would have handled the job. The cost was exactly the same. I still don't understand why I had to find someone when his hard scape crew does the same kind of work. That was disappointing. The positive thing about Landmark Custom Landscape is that Tom will stand by his work. Sometimes you must insist a bit too much but it does eventually get done. read more

Fernando did a great job adding more artificial turf to a section in my yard. The work crews at Landmark who did my back yard landscaping were awesome. They showed up on time six days a week every week til the job was done. They left every day with the place clean and organized. Tom came out to measure our backyard and came back with a design a few days later. We loved what he designed for us, but added a few things and took out a few things. Landmark did our original landscape and yard hardscape when we bought our new home in 2016. We recently had a water line from the water meter to the irrigation valves fail with a resulting flood. Failure was most likely caused by uneven settling of the soil from the original builders. I called Tom at Landmark and asked if he could have his people come out and fix the line. I thought they would have the best knowledge of the likely location of the lines. Tom agreed and had his people out within 2 days. They quickly fixed the line and put the landscaping back in place so that you could not even tell where they had been digging. They then cleaned not only the area where they worked but all of the soil and mulch that had washed out during the initial flood. Tom and Landmark are with you not only when they do the work but long afterwards. My neighbors were amazed at the response from Tom and Landmark while bemoaning that they cannot even get in touch with their landscapers. My review is not around their work but is focused around the customer service when trying to obtain a quote. On their website they offer a "Contact us for a complimentary design and estimate!". When I contacted them and they called me back they asked me a few questions on what I was trying to do to my yard. I answered their questions on what I wanted done at my residence. They also asked what my budget was on my project. At the moment I do not have a budget since I don't know how much my ideas are going to cost. I explained that this was why I was contacting them, to get a quote and find out how much my ideas were going to cost. She then informed me that they only do medium to large projects with at least $50,000 in services. If the services were less than $50k then I could purchase the design for $1500. Apparently "complimentary design and estimate" is not complimentary unless you meet certain conditions and if you use their services which is definitely not listed on their web site. I was willing to obtain a design and even purchase it from a reputable source, but in my opinion since they don't list their conditions on their site, I would not call them reputable. Update 3/19/2015 - The owner of Landmark contacted me and tried to follow up to offer a design due to my yelp review apparently. I appreciate the follow up but have already made the decision not to use Landmark due to the initial contact was not a pleasant experience. We had our entire backyard renovated by Landmark in 2015-2016. We have dealt with many contractors on number of projects over the past few years and this company stands out for the following reasons 1) Tom (owner) very responsive, resourceful, and creative 2) Tom's crews are always showed up to work on time and work hard regardless or sun, rain, or wind. 3) They made sure to cover up the pools, the furniture and clean up at the end of each day. 4) They are quick but GOOD! I would recommend this company to people who has a large project with large budget. Tom's pricing is higher than most but at the end "you get for what you paid". Landmark Custom Landscape just completed a major makeover of our back yard. The project turned out even nicer than we had envisioned. They built a new patio cover, which consisted of a covered area and an open beamed area. The cement decking was replaced with pavers. The swimming pool was completely refurbished with new pebble stone, tile and stonewalls. They also upgraded our soft-scape with plants and scrubs that more appropriately fit with our yard. We now have an abundance of flowers that bloom the year around in addition to some very attractive tropical plants. Our grass was replaced with artificial turf that looks spectacular and eliminates the gardeners bringing equipment into our back yard. Another thing that impressed us about Landmark was how the crews cleaned up the site after every workday. AS with most projects of this type, don't expect the job to be finished on the projected time schedule. With the changes your most likely to make and the delays of the cities inspections you should allow a longer timetable. As we have also learned, on any project like this, you can count on some increases in your overall costs. We would not hesitate to use Landmark again should the need arise. Awful company. Found online for free consult and design and got an email from office assistant Esther to call back. I called back and she was very unprofessional and after asking our budget, which I said ideally would be up to 20k but depending on design we could go up to 50k, she said oh that's too small for us and we don't come out unless our project is at least 40k! We don't even know exactly what we want for our front and back yard and she's already saying no to the consult! I told her she should put it on their website that a free design and consult is only if you think you'll be spending over 40k! They could have had a big job from us and now they are getting nothing but a bad review and no referrals from us! read more

My husband and I had been wanting to redo our back patio area for quite awhile and when we met with Tom we knew he was our guy. We had already scheduled our granddaughter's birthday party in July and Tom and his crew worked 6 days a week to get it done for us. Landmark Custom Landscape did an amazing job on our backyard. My husband and I were looking to re-do our backyard for over a year. We received quotes from at least 4 different companies, but we always compared those companies to Landmark. We narrowed our decision down to two companies, Landmark being one of them. When we called Tom back out for another quote, he came out with his original designs (which he designed for free) and told us he would honor the same quote from over a year ago. The other company was reasonably cheaper, but Tom's knowledge in landscaping, his professionalism, and his attentiveness to us made us decide to go with Landmark. He even sent out people 3 months after the job completion to fix our A.C unit (which ended up not being their fault) and sprinklers. We have no regrets in our decision to use Landmark. The workers were very professional and came Mon-Sat from 7am-4pm. They never stepped foot into our house or bothered us. If they have any questions or concerns, they contacted Tom and he would then contact us. Tom provided a porto-potty (some might think that's gross) for his workers to use, so they didn't need to come into our house for any reason. The potty was cleaned on a weekly basis and if for some reason I or my neighbors, smelled the slightest smell, Tom would have it cleaned that day or the next at the latest. We appreciated the workers so much, we bought two Disneyland tickets and raffled them off to the workers as a thank you. Our backyard looks amazing. We have received so many complements on the look, functionality and layout of our backyard. We spend many evenings back there with our family and entertain more often because we have a great space for a large group of people. read more

I had my landscape done by Landmark this year and it just finished one month ago. I'm happy with the end result but it did take quite a bit of work. We had to do extensive research to make sure we got what we wanted. The quality of the work is good, Tom is responsive to issues and support after job completed is wonderful. Two years ago we had Landmark and Tom's team redesign and level our entire backyard indluding building a new patio, stone faced fireplace and BBQ island. From the day he first came to look at our existing backyard until completion of the project, they were a pleasure to work with. It was a 2-3 month project and his crew worked non-stop six days per week, never missing a day. The project was completed on time, with a few minor hiccups here and there, but everytime it was resolved to our satisfaction quickly. After two years, we had a small problem with a few tiles on our BBQ island, and within just a few days Tom had his crew out to make the needed repairs(free of charge) and it looks just as it did the day it was built. Landmark Custom Landscape is top notch. Tom has a working team that handles the project end to end. Most contractors sub contract their work which leads to many gaps in days between work loads. Landmark does not have that issue. Moreo ever, Landmark has a really good understanding of the materials to use in order to have an inside/outside living area that we are accustomed to living in Southern California.
