First time here, got the turkey pesto and matcha mango drink. Both were great! The bread for the turkey pesto was nice and crispy. Enjoyed the music playlist, better than your typical top 40 stuff. Convenient walk from the court house if you're in town for jury duty. read more

I go to school at Laney and ordered my usual caramel latte with soy. Mike the bald head guy with a cocked eye made the drink and when I tried it it was nasty. Usually the nice brunette makes my drink. I approached back at the counter and asked to have it be remade. He asked if I wanted more caramel and I said no i want a new drink this latte is bitter. He proceeded to give me my cash back and said that's how we make our lattes. I hadn't ate all day I wanted my usual latte that I spend so much money on weekly. That's poor business I'm money in your pocket Mike. That's NOT how you make LATTES I ORDER FROM YOU ALL THE TIME It was embarrassing I privately and quietly asked the girl to re make my drink you mad? In Oakland for business and stopped in for a sandwich. Oakland is an absolute dump imo however, this place is a nice little gem. Nice staff, ingredients were fresh and my BLTG was good. The bread was really good, don't know if they make it in house but it definitely stood out. Excited about this nice cafe near the Lake Merritt BART station. It's nice and clean inside, has good tasty coffee at average prices, and a convenient creme and sugar adding area- perfect for a pre-BART cup of coffee or a break from school at Laney. I used to go to this small cafe in SF on Fillmore, close to Eddy st. It was also a small business, serving awesome breakfast sandwiches, coffee, pastries. Lane-e Kefa reminds me of that place. Their breakfast sandwich was huge and very tasty. I got a dirty chai too which was also really good. The owner is really nice. I'm glad I found a similar spot to Fillmore Street cafe in the east bay! read more

Initially I thought the prices were ridiculous (for the food). However, after receiving my order I see why they charge what they do. This place gives a ridiculous amount of toppings no matter what you order. I initially ordered a house special breakfast sandwich and was genuinely surprised at how much they put on there. I got the special breakfast sandwich (you'll recognize it bc it comes with everything) and it was quite tasty, though definitely a gut bomb. It comes with eggs, spinach, cheese, bacon, avocado and a sizable amount of butter. The butter is probably unnecessary but it certainly makes for a tasty morsel. I absolutely adore this coffee shop. The staff are always amazing and super friendly. I have yet to try their food, since I'm always in a rush before work. I used to get my Latte with a splash of hazelnut, but once I tried their house coffee with my add in hazelnut, I never switched back to Lattes. Yup, their drip coffee is that good and strong. Tip: They offer a stamp card for each purchase. Once the card is filled up, you can get your choice of any size beverage. I always forget mines, but the nice barista always remembers and double my stamp the next time I come in. :) Definitely give this local coffee shop a try if you're ever around the Oakland Bart Station. ~Happy sipping read more

Great addition to the neighborhood. Too bad they are only open till 2pm. Had lunch there, roastbeef blue cheese sandwich my coworker had the Bacon Lettuce Tomato Guacamole Sandwich. Both fresh and good. Reasonably priced for a quality, very large sandwich. Both of us bagged the other half to go. Only good place to meet with coworkers in the vicinity. One of my favorite spots in Oakland. This small coffee shop located right across from the Lake Merritt Station makes one of the best breakfast sandwiches in town - the egg, proscuitto & swiss english muffin for sandwich for $5.95 is absolutely huge. Diet Coke Can for $1.50 seems a tad steap - and for both it's $8.17. The Egg, Proscuitto, and Swiss is a heaping sandwich which is hard to fit in your mouth. This sandwich will fill you up for hours. The staff is always friendly and will even take phone orders with limited notice. I have been able to call from the Powell Street BART Station before and have it ready by the time I arrive at Lake Merritt. read more

A bit of a hidden gem because from the outside it doesn't look like much and its not in a particularly great area but once inside you quickly realize what a cool coffe joint this is. I usually stop by this place before going to work. It's the only coffee place near La Escuelita Elementary School. My favorite thing on the menu so far is their drip coffee. Only $1.80 for a small! I haven't tried their food items yet because I don't have time to wait for them to make it. Also, there is a $2.00 minimum purchase if you want to use a debit/credit card. This coffee shop is incredible, I have to say. I kill some time here a few times a week and I'm so thankful it exists in this neighborhood. Spacious seating inside (never have trouble finding a spot even during busy times), delicious coffee and I'm kind of obsessed with the turkey-pesto sandwich. Only downside is that it's not very well staffed so the poor folks working during a rush have to scramble to get everyone's order and there can be a little bit of a wait. Totally not their fault though, just think things could be a bit smoother if there was another person working. Although, they're pretty on their game regardless (and super nice). All in all, thank you Kefa gods for putting this wonderful little establishment here. read more

I'm not a huge fan of the Laney College campus, but, during long gaps this is my go-to spot and it's only half a block away. Coffee is quick and food is delicious. Upon entering, the atmosphere is immediately welcoming. The people who work here are the type of people who make you feel like they've known you for years. I ordered the veggie sando and a small cup of coffee. First of all, that coffee SMACKS you in the face. It is bold, strong, and full of flavor - just how I like it. They also sell their own coffee beans in case you become a huge fan like I am. Second of all, vegetarian sandwiches can often be very disappointing at cafes - but this one was absolutely amazing. The sandwich contained super fresh/amazing quality cucumbers, avocado, tomato, lettuce, cheese, and PESTO. Not to mention the ciabatta roll which was crunchy yet soft and just the right thickness... *droolz/dies/goes2heaven* I believe this was a $7 sandwich, however the size is quite satisfying and I saved the second half for dinner. O:-) Aside from this, table space is adequate for studying and the benches are comfortable enough. Space is limited but even if it's full, I'd rather purchase coffee here than at the Laney cafeteria. It's a nice environment and I highly recommend it. read more

Super quick review: Walking distance from Laney campus. They offer all the good goods a cafe would offer; coffee, espresso, teas, juices, smoothies, sandwiches, bagels, croissants, pizza by the slice (?), etc. When I placed my order for my morning cup of joe, she was quick and I was out the door in a jiffy. I've noticed the servers/workers looked a little unkept and I have seen one working wear the same outfit for 3 days straight.. That's up to you seeking a review to decide if that bothers you or not. The prices are expensive in my opinion but I am also a cheap ass so with that said their prices are relative to Laney's prices - Shop local? I'd go again. read more
