Other reviewers had mentioned a line upon opening, so we made sure to arrive 15 minutes before they open, but on this Friday morning, there was no one else but us. Our server was friendly, polite, and soft spoken. Their menu is quite small, which I appreciate. There's appetizers, sides, brunch, and dinner -- all on 1 page. Their food was outstanding, with rich flavors and beautifully presented with sauces and pickled radishes. We ordered... + Shanghai Lumpia - these were long, crispy, and properly filled + Daing Na Bangus Silog - deep fried milkfish with salad, garlic rice, and sunny egg. One of our favorites. + Fried Chicken (4-piece) - perfectly crispy and juicy. There's some warm spices in the batter, maybe all-spice. + Adobo fried rice - the pork was so tender, it shreds on your fork. This had a good amount of tanginess that was so good. + Pancit Sotanghon - not your typical pancit. The chopped veggies in this had an almost charred flavor that made the dish so interesting. There was not a bad dish. I definitely recommend this for elevated Filipino food that's not pretentious, with a modern, hip vibe.

Filipino food has very strong pungent flavors whether salty, sweet, sour, bitter, and definitely umami. It should punch diners in the mouth, no ands, ifs, or buts. Adobo sa gata (aka adobo in coconut milk) is a regional specialty. The sharpness of the vinegar mellows out with the addition of the coconut milk. But there should still be a clear and distinct flavor profile. The eggplant omelet was almost there. Liked that it wasn't greasy but again was searching for some punch of flavor. Maybe I needed to ask it they had a garlic, chili and vinegar dipping sauce. Or maybe atchara (aka pickled veg). Didn't care for the sticky rice dessert (aka suman). Didn't like the pureed texture. The green mango garnish was better when I dipped the slices in salt. FOB Kitchen's food is refined. Maybe too subtle and restrained. I get it. The chef has to appeal to the western palate, a wider audience than just Filipinos, to survive in an industry with razor thin margins. I look for good food and flavor, not necessarily for authenticity. So yes, I would still recommend this restaurant, for good eats but not for Filipino food.

Skimpy on the bacon, there was ONE piece but overall good breakfast sandwich. Next item ready 5 minutes later: Khadija's Slow Burn Harissa Hot Honey Breakfast Burrito - Really tasty. Definitely flavor packed and would order this again. *BUT there was an issue. Apparently the person that ordered before us asked for the same burrito to go...they NEVER got it and yet our order was ready. The person was pretty cool about it but they were definitely annoyed and gave us a look although it wasn't our fault. *The ordering system seems unorganized with the cashier writing orders on a slip of receipt paper and putting them on a stand by the kitchen. I wonder if the slips were out of order or fell and they skipped this persons to go order? IDK but they need a better system! We tried waiting for our coffees before starting to eat but then our food started getting cold...YOU KNOW WHY?... because the poor person that was taking orders was also in charge of making drinks. There was a bin for "Plastic Only" but only the cup lids were plastic and the cup itself was paper, so where TF do you put that? We noticed a black plastic bin that someone had brought out from the back, so we placed our stuff in there but wasn't exactly sure. We tried to ask the cashier/barista but they were slammed with customers so we ccouldn't get their attention. IDK the place is just poorly organized and messy! There are tables for people to make artwork which is nice but on a busy Saturday it might have been nice to clean those areas up to allow people to sit. Sorry guys... *You need a dedicated barista! People waiting 20+ minutes for drinks is insane especially when the food comes out relatively fast. *Please clean up your restaurant. The amount of flies was gross and no one wants to swat them away from food & drinks. *Tell people if they should bus their own tables and if so.... *Make it clear where to leave plates, cups, garbage, compost etc.

However I am not upset that I did not get the egg coffee I ordered, because whatever drink I ended up with made me happy, even is I was expecting an iced coffee drink and got a hot latte drink. The sandwich was totally worth the price of admission. I will definitely be back for another croissant breakfast sandwich on another day when the idea of cooking breakfast just seems far too much.

They happily chatted at the counter and told me they had put two years of work into opening this place and that they were grateful to finally have it open. When it comes to the drinks, I ordered the Matcha and Café de Olla. The Matcha was a bit disappointing since it wasn't very flavorful and tasted slightly watered down, but the Café de Olla saved the day, with a rich flavor and subtle sweetness. The food, however, is what really surprised me. Honestly, if it weren't for the Matcha, they would have earned a full five stars off the food alone! I ordered the breakfast sandwich, which on its own was a solid, run-of-the-mill bacon, egg, and cheese. But the small side salad with house-made dressing was truly unique and worth a visit all on its own. If you're looking for more than just drinks at a café, give this place a try--they deserve it, and so do you!
