This is a course for two people that they put on one plate

The service here was great. Rebecca was our main server and I enjoyed listening to her explain the dishes. We could tell she really enjoys her job. And she made the experience fun. The food was great but my goodness they were just bite sized flavor tasters. I've done a lot of prix fix dining and Langbaan wins for having the smallest courses.

The bartender was the nicest guy. We had some amazing food. Sat at the bar for a birthday dinner. Such a cute little place. Hope to come back again soon.

Food: 5/5 all of the food was so well thought out and well executed. We went here to celebrate our anniversary and left full and beyond satisfied Service: 5/5 the staff were so inviting and explained each dish so well. Decor and dish-ware were beautiful Ambiance: 4/5 where we were seated was pretty close to the next couple over so we were distracted and able to unintentionally hear their conversation. I would suggest requesting a booth or another spot beforehand if you want more privacy.

I was visiting Portland to see a friend-wanted to treat myself to a nice meal my last evening. WOW this place didn't disappoint--from the service, ambiance and of course the FOOD-OMG the FOOD. Just such great care, quality and flavors in every serving I had. I paid to do the tasting menu. The whole experience is a MUST if you're ever visiting. So worth it. I couldn't even say what my favorite item was as every dish, item was beautifully done and different in the most perfect way. Overall, 10000/10! Anytime I'm visiting Portland, I'll be back. Thank you for making this experience so unique, fun and of course so delicious

It's been too may years since we've had a chance to try Earl's magic again. Not living anymore in Portland makes it even more challenging and of course after getting the shout out from James Beard next to impossible. Lady Luck shined on us on a week where the wife was also with me and a reservation was gifted by the Thai gods, LOL Amazing five course of diverse and tasty favorite appetizers and new tasty creations and wine accompaniments! Was delightfully presented and a great story came with each dish from our servers!

This is located in the same restaurant as Phuket Cafe. There is a bar section. For dinner, they only do the fixe menu with multi-course in small portions. The main course is a fish with garnish and sauce that you wrap yourself. It ends with dessert. I would really liked bigger portion for some of the dishes, especially the dessert, which were bite size.

Lang Baan isn't dinner, it's an experience. Each of the menu items are carefully created with intention, the various Thai flavors and ingredients coming together like a symphony on your palette. Or a dance for your tastebuds. Superb. Lucky to be invited to a private event, we were greeted at the door with a cocktail and had a chance to mingle in the very cozy bar area before taking our seats. The 12 course meal, many just small bites, was varied and gave us a well rounded representation of this type of Thai food and the chef's skills. Actually, the entire staff's skills. Everything executed like a well rehearsed play. Each item was plated so artistically, the fresh ingredients vibrant against the dark platters. We eat with all of our senses and when each dish anrrived, we were oohhing and ahhhing before we even tasted them! Now, not every course worked for me - just being honest. We all have our preferences for flavors and textures. For example, the Yom Nam Dum, clams in cuttlefish broth with coconut, sunchoke and Thai chile was a texture and taste that I didn't find appealing. However, the Maing Som - shrimp, Cara Cara orange, peanuts, coconut on a betal leaf, I could eat a dozen! It all works when you are with others because the food is served family style, so what didn't appeal to me, was devoured by my friends. And vice versa. The Chu Chee, chicken red curry, was spicy and delicious. As was the crispy pork belly with mango and watermelon radish (Yum Sam Grob.) Both perfect with the jasmine rice cooked with black beans. I could eat that rice everyday! Spicy, sour, salty, sweet and bitter - the dishes represented the five flavors of Thailand, and the reason I love Thai food. These dishes are not what you would find in the majority of Thai restaurants where Pad Thai and curry dishes reign supreme. The dishes at Lang Baan are authentic, and not mainstream; they transported me back to magical meals I had in Thailand. What a treat!

The ambience here is very low lit and beautiful. It's definitely a special occasion place, and when we looked around, it seemed that everyone was celebrating their birthdays. This place has been on our list for years and it was such a nice and beautiful presentation. It's unique in which it's like a team project and everyone needs to show up on time before they can start serving. They choreographed the meal well to where the speed of dishes coming out was done nicely. The food itself was very unique and delicious, and I felt satiated after the whole meal and corresponding courses. Three of the courses are shared so my partner ate more of it than I do and was full. I'll definitely return again in the future. It'll be sometime as it is quite an investment to eat here but a nice experience and delicious food.

Beautiful, artful, amazing dishes. In the TV series quantum Leap, there's a quote that says dining is the only art that uses all five senses. Things are beautiful. The dishes came with stories depending on who served it. I wanted the two add-ons because I liked those foods the best. I'm really annoyed that the two add-ons were the most delicious part of me on the period. I was not impressed with the other dishes, but they were beautiful and overall good. There was one dish on the scallop plate that was so delicious. I wanted to ask them if I could have a second serving. But it's too embarrassing to ask. My husband liked the food more than I did.

Langbaan describes dining here as an experience & I have to agree. From the ambience, the service, the menu, & the attention to every little detail over the course of a 2 hour tasting menu experience is the best way to describe having a meal here. I booked a bar spot for an 8:15 seating on a Friday night weeks in advance as a treat yo self gift to myself after climbing Mt Saint Helens & biking a significant portion of the gorge over the previous two days. This was my last meal in Portland & I wanted it to be something special & it was. I arrived about 30 mins early to have a drink at Phuket Cafe & was seated on the outside window bar & told I would be moved inside for my service at Langbaan once the setup for dinner service was completed. I had a Thai tea & watched the staff work like seasoned tacticians to prepare the inside space for the service. I was moved inside & took my seat at the bar & introduced to Molly who was working the bar along with another coworker. She said she would be with those of us at the bar to walk us through the menu throughout the night as we enjoyed ourselves. She was a delight & very attentive the entire service. Obviously the food is the main reason to come here & it didn't disappoint. I opted to include both of the additional courses for the night A Pair of Oysters $8 & a5 wagyu ribeye $45. Having had wagyu in Japan years ago the portion served here for $45 was well worth it if you've never had it. The oysters were exceptional and dressed with Yuzu, thai chili, lime leaf, shallots, sesame. For $8 that's a no brainer. Of the many delectable courses served (there was so much food!) my favorite two were the Hokkaido Scallop & the squab of the two courses included in the main assortment. If I'm including the add ons then it's much harder to rank. I did have one cocktail during the meal, the rocket pop (Irish Whiskey, Coconut Caramel, Peychaud's Cordial, Pineapple, Mint ) It was refreshing & stout. I've been to Thailand but never the Isan region featured in the menu curation. Everything was of the highest quality & beautifully presented. There were items I would never order or even know of served & that's the great thing about an experience like this. You put yourself at the mercy of the creative & passionate hands of the chef & just enjoy. Highly highly recommend!

Langbaan was the sole reason for my trip to Portland, and I would do it again without hesitation. The dining room is beautifully done. Low lighting, calm energy, and just enough ambient sound to feel lively without becoming loud. Service was warm, friendly, and polished throughout, and I was greeted with a happy birthday, which felt sincere and personal. The menu was consistently strong, with several standout moments. The tom kha, presented in a panna cotta form, was remarkable. It melted instantly and delivered a concentrated, layered explosion of flavor, paired with cured salmon that tasted incredibly fresh and precise in one bite. Pad ped pla was deeply satisfying and well-balanced, and the rice cake dessert closed the meal on a high note. The wine program deserves special mention. The sommelier was knowledgeable and approachable. I enjoyed a Jacquère earlier in the meal, and later they brought a glass of Merlot specifically to complement the main course, which paired beautifully. What stood out most was the storytelling behind each dish. Everything felt intentional and cohesive from start to finish. Langbaan is special occasion dining done with care, restraint, and heart.

Service 5/5 -- Servers offered to hang up my coat, were very attentive, refilled our waters several times, gave detailed descriptions about each course, were very friendly and personable, and brought me a birthday candle and card :) Ambiance 4/5 -- would be a great spot for a date! It was a bit cold inside though. All the plates and silverware were beautiful Food 3/5 -- you definitely leave stuffed! Every dish was beautifully crafted with care. There was one course with raw lobster that tasted funny to me texturally and it was a bit fishy... I couldn't finish my bite. Everything else was great, some dishes were more my taste than others, but i appreciated getting the chance to be adventurous. My partner and I both got a bit of an upset stomach after though, maybe the lobster?

What is the appropriate attire here when it's 90 degrees in August?

Given the vibe personally I would say casual. It was hot whenever I went but it was for the later seating at 8:15 so much less than it was during the day. People were wearing jeans and T-shirts. Some people dressed up more business casual but it is…

Can I go to LangBaan walk in without a reservation?

no, you need a reservation Marsha Sleeth

Does the restaurant accommodate vegetarians for tasting menus?

Are kids welcome here? Like say 8 and 12 year olds

I do not see why not, but you will most likely have to pay for their "seat" as well. It is good to note that the menu is entirely prix fixe, and they do not make major accommodations (excluding allergies, dietary restrictions).

How do you get on the wait list? (if reservations are all booked)

go to their website and get their contact info and ask them

Can I bring my two year old to this restaurant?

I definitely wouldn't recommend it. It's a very small tasting room and they even have an ambiance notice on their site that says, "...we may ask tables to lower their voices on rare occasions, so as to better respect the dining experiences of our…

What's the current cost of the tasting menu?

We just went this past weekend and it was $95/person for the food tasing menu. They open reservations 3 months ahead of time and you can change or cancel your reservation up to 3 days prior. Totally worth it!

Is the menu set in a pescatarian would they just do a pescatarian menu?

Yes they text you what your dietary needs are and they work hard to accommodate you. I too am Pescatarian and it was amazing. I highly recommend them.

It's on the sweet side, but I needed something sweet as a buffer since some of the dishes we ordered were a bit too salty. -Thai-Style Ceviche, 11/10. No friggin' notes. I highly recommend. Portion is a bit small, because I could have eaten MORE. -Sweet & Sour Fried Chicken was decent. We ordered the Small and it was about 5-6 boneless pieces. Very unique. I recommend to try if you like fried chicken. -Wok-Fried Yu Choy was wayyyy tooooo salty. Hubs & I wanted some greens and it was fried with generous amounts of garlic, but it just got saltier and saltier as we ate it. -White Curry w/ Brisket Burnt Ends, this dish was a little bit of a mixed bag. The white curry (roasted cauliflower + coconut cream) was delicious, but did it pair well with the Brisket Burnt Ends? Not really IMO. I don't think the flavors match. I'm not exactly sure what would pair well with the white curry, maybe some veg or tofu...but BBQ fusion with the curry wasn't the best. 2 unisex restrooms available, the one I used was clean. Service was a little scattered. We got the Yu-Choy first, followed by the ceviche a few minutes later. But the Fried Chicken and White Curry took a while to come (about another 10-15 mins. to come). We were lucky to find some street parking in the neighborhood nearby.

Khao Moo Dang Pi-Set (5/5): Upgrading to the Pi-Set is worth the extra $3, which comes with all the standard options plus extra eggs, juicy dumplings, tender yu choy, and a side of bone broth. The five-spice pork is super tender and tastes very similar to char siu. The pork belly had a great crunch and was perfectly salty, which contrasted well with the sweet Chinese sausage. The dumplings are really juicy and justify the upgrade on its own, in addition to complementing the side of bone broth. Everything ties together when coated in their signature Khao Moo Dang sauce, which rounds out the rich meats with the perfect amount of sweetness. Logistics Tip: Takeout packaging holds up well, keeping the crispy pork belly from getting soggy on the ride home while ensuring the broth stays piping hot. Upgrading to the Pi-Set version further improves an already generous meal into an expansive dish that can easily satisfy a huge appetite.

The friendly staff promptly showed us to our table. A QR code stood in for the menu, an arrangement I tolerate rather than celebrate. One quick request produced printed menus and restored diplomatic relations. We began with shrimp salad rolls, which arrived remarkably quickly, with crisp, fresh vegetables. The accompanying peanut sauce was flavorful without being thick or ponderous. Frankly, the only thing preventing me from drinking it was a lingering respect for table manners. My spouse ordered the Egg Noodle & Basil Stir-Fry, generously loaded with shrimp. I chose the House Thai Peacock Curry with tofu. Its combination of Panang curry and peanut sauce was rich and intriguing, with just enough spice to keep each bite interesting without turning dinner into a test of character. The food arrived quickly, our server remained friendly, and the lively atmosphere made Thai Peacock an excellent choice before a show at Portland Center Stage. The restaurant we remembered fondly is now firmly back on our list. Thai Peacock earned an encore.

How do I know about this restaurant?…read more For a very brief period of time, I decided to DoorDash... on a bicycle. It was very brief, due to the fact that Portland's hills are... well, I'm in a good shape, but I won't be in the Tour De France. A side benefit is that I learned where a lot of good food in Portland resides: Thai Peacock and Little Peacock made up a fair amount of my orders. How much do I like Thai? So much that I learned to make it myself, and I make a better than average Pad See Ew/Kee Mao... So when it came time for a lunch break, well, I couldn't wait to order from Thai Peacock. I got the Pad Ka Phrao (there was not an option for super hot / Thai hot... my one complaint about their system... more on that in a minute)... and started walking. It was easy to pick up, well labeled, and hot when I arrived. The reusable bowl (for the paper bag crowd who are taking notes.. this is Portland ya know)... was full of delicious meat and vegetables. The rice was packed separately, along with the single serving of added sriracha. The serving was more than generous, and good in its preparation. There are some caveats here: Thai Peacock does not make their dishes in the same way that many other Thai restaurants do... they do it with minimal ingredients, hoping you'll add on vegetables. It gets annoying when you're looking at ordering pad se ew, and you might otherwise get a similar dish for $7-$10 cheaper. The lack of an ability to add additional heat is also unwelcome. However, I understand that each Thai restaurant has its own way of making a specific dish. The generous portions make the bare bones dish a good value, if not the best representation of the dish I've had. This would be 5* for a group meal (no shortage of options, and consistent service), and 4* based on comparison to other Thai dishes at similar price points I've had. 5* here based on what most people would likely say. An extremely reliable restaurant with tasty food and generous portions deserves it.
