I haven't been to Lanham Skate Center in years! Coming back wasn't only a treat but brought a little bit of nostalgia for me. I came on a Friday night where there were way more adults than kids. To be honest, all the adults had on good expensive skates but me. (Dork alert) This means that these people come and really skate skate. For the most part there were lots of couples skating together in sync with the type of synergy that only Chemistry will allow. Way cool to see them skate so effortlessly, even the big boy who was skating with one leg! Ladies there were couples but there were men all by their lonesome skating like superstars. It was super fun, it's definitely a workout, and this girl is going to buy cute skates to fit in for next time. Customer service was great! Price is reasonable! 17$ Didn't try the food had dinner prior! But drinks are fairly priced. Music is on point! Love the DJ, it's almost like he had my playlist. Place is a little run down but the floor is perfect, restrooms could get a facelift but overall cute place! Date night worthy if you're active! Tip: Bring quarters if you want to safely store your stuff. They do not give cash back and can't charge you for a locker. Would recommend! read more

Lanham Skate Center - Pretty empty at 8 p.m. on a Friday - Skating Rinks Near Me - Lanham, Maryland

Now, I have not skated in over 20 years but was a good inline skater as a child, and after a viewing a lot of fun videos of families and friends roller skating in numerous cities throughout the country and researching some quick tutorial videos on YouTube, I decided to come out of skating retirement and try out Lanham Skate Center, that I have read/heard of and even have driven past several times, but had not personally visited. I had a blast and such an awesome fun and amazing time. I had to use the guardrail with wheels to go around the rink several times before gradually trusting myself and having the confidence to start taking strides on my own by the guardrails and then eventually taking steps to start having my balance, technique, and rhythm down just an amazing epiphany, self development and fulfilling prophecy throughout the evening such an excellent feeling of accomplishment and overcoming fear, as I was able to get the hang of things without needing an actual class and had that my muscle memory kicked in from inline skating a lot as a child. Now for the actual establishment itself, I am sorry that others have not had the best customer service, but my mom and I were fortunate to receive stellar, friendly, and top-tier customer service from the admissions to the snack bar and for me at the shoe rental. Staff were easygoing, polite, friendly, attentive, approachable, and had great attitudes. I think the customer service outside of the skating experience itself for me was the most memorable part, as I was dreading and expecting poor to mediocre customer service. The pricing is also a plus. The general admission is only $10 bucks and renting skates is only $5 dollars so it is a very affordable, fun, and memorable outing. Bowling can easily cost $50-$100 dollars altogether within a blink of the eye depending on rounds played and other factors. Roller skating is not as widely popular as bowling and has more of a niche audience, but it is way more reasonable cost wise and is great for your physical and mental health. You feel this euphoric sensation after skating! Now what keeps this place from receiving 5 stars or even 4 stars is the location and amenities themselves. The rink although large with excellent guardrail placement around it, has a dated floor with a few areas that have a little bit of friction which makes it hard to have a smooth skating experience. The skates I rented were pretty dated and worn with the front of one skate peeling, so I think investing in newer skates would be ideal down the road. I had the right size of skates, and they did not feel too heavy, but they were a bit worn out. I know the challenges small businesses face, and I was thankful and grateful to have a local skating rink not too far away from where I live, but that is something cause of concern. A nice feature are the referees/support staff that do a great job monitoring the rules on the skating rink and to help novice/beginner skaters if needed. Yes, this place has a lot of rules, but skating can be a risky activity, so safety is paramount. The snack bar is a bit more limited and restrictive than what to expect at a bowling alley. Please do not come here on an empty stomach. It is best to eat before coming here. I understand that the skating rink is not a restaurant, but there are no hot pockets, sausage, and other finger food outside of wings and fries. The candy was almost 3 dollars per bag which is pricey. The food and its options was the most disappointing part. The venue itself is pretty dated and would look and feel nicer with a more modern, revamped look. I think the venue would benefit from a massive upgrade in the aesthetics department. The music was not what I have interest in personally with Cardi B., Glorilla, and other new school hip/hop - rap artists. I enjoyed when Jay Z and Alicia Keys came on, that is when I started to get into my rhythm and groove! Sorry Cardi you just don't do it for me. Having a lot of little kids skating with me listening to ole Cardi B was an experience to say the least. All in all, despite some limitations and issues here and there, this is still a great outing and nice to check out. read more

It's been years since I was last on roller skates, and I was really excited when my friends and I decided to go to Lanham Skate Center for a different Friday night activity. The entrance and skate rental fee came up to about $17, which I think is fair. The vibes in the room stayed energetic- as people from various ages showed their talents around the rink. The DJ also kept the energy flowing, playing a range of music from different genres... Hip Hop, GoGo, R'n'B and more. Overall, I had a great time. The venue itself is a little outdated, as were the rental skates. A revamp could do the venue a lot of good - but overall if we are strictly talking about the rink... It's kept in good condition. There are storage lockers ($0.50 per locker) that you can use to store your valuables while you skate, and ample tables and chairs to sit at if you want to take a break from skating. read more

(This will be a long review, warning you LOL) There are a lot of reviews on here talking about things at this rink, but as a skating enthusiast my first time at this rink was absolutely amazing! I have some points to acknowledge the other reviews. (For those with short attention spans here's a tldr: there are so many talented skaters here, music is cultural and specific to styles of skating and this rink played some HITS for JB and snapping skating, go eat before going to a skating rink if you want good food, floor is great, and a broken pair of headphones AND a broken arm don't sound too good) 1) The people: Someone mentioned the desk staff being rude, which is certainly a valid concern, but me personally? I'm there to skate. The skaters that attended the 18+ Monday session were amazing, informative, and so sweet. I met so many new people and had such a good time learning new routines, practicing moves, and talking about my love for skating that I couldn't care less about the 2 minutes behind the counter. There are some amazing, and I mean AMAZING skaters that skate here, and I would recommend that less experienced skaters definitely attend those nights and ask questions! 2) The music: Skating is a culture within itself, a particularly black culture, and each style of skating has different kinds of music that are most popular for that form of skating, something that 18+ and 21+ skating events understand. No shade to Nicki Minaj, but most seasoned skaters aren't going to skate JB (a style of skating) to a Nicki Minaj song, so it's an unrealistic expectation to expect "new" music on those nights. Seasoned, experienced skaters are the crowd for adult nights, and in my perspective they played some wonderful hits for house skaters, job skaters, and even some Chicago skaters, that were perfect for the mood of the night and had me in a TRANCE at their 18+ night. 3) The food: Skating rinks are not restaurants. From what I know, most are either run by teenagers, adults as a side hustle, just for fun to help the owner out, and the "kitchens" are the size of an average bathroom, so it's a bit unrealistic to expect good meals. I personally recommend people to eat a good time BEFORE skating in general , not at the rink, since you will be underwhelmed regardless of where you go, and to usually ask for bottled drinks rather than fountain drinks. 4) The actual rink: The rink is BIG. Some roller skating rinks prioritize seating and lounge space over rink space, but this rink certainly did not do that. There is a perfect amount of space for people to skate fast and cut it up when they want to! The floor is nice and smooth, a bit slippery, but for some styles of skating that's preferred, they have a good sized middle area for some rhythm skaters to practice their moves, and they have figure skating circles as well! 5) The phone and electronic policy Some rinks are a lot more lax on those policies, but you can't blame a rink for not wanting phones or headphones out on the floor. One wrong move and your phone or headphones could not only break, but also cause someone else to trip and fall. Though I can't judge anyone who wants to listen to their own music if they don't like what they hear, I don't blame the rink for having this policy Overall, this rink is amazing for experienced skaters who really want to get a good skate in. They have a great floor, great people, and great sessions like adult night where you can really watch the magic happen. This place is probably immune to reviews, as there is clearly a neighborhood 'scene' that is regularly there. If you grew up roller skating, or want to see what your parents did in the 80s, then it's fine. The floor is a little buckled in spots but it's definitely skateable. I found the music was fun and maybe a bit risqué for the child's birthday we were attending, but not grossly inappropriate. The regulars definitely swarm in later in the afternoon and make it clear that you're not welcome and should start to pack up. So if you're hosting a birthday or something, I'd say go earlier and be done by ~2-3pm. By 3, we had people from late teens to 50s-60s racing around and knocking kids down, and no one said anything. But if you start to take a picture of your child, or if a kid holds onto the railing for too long multiple people will shout at you and start blowing whistles like a fire drill. Go in with low expectations and leave early, and it will be enjoyable. Most of the kids had a great time until the last 30-45 minutes. read more

Denied water for a diabetic child. I took 3 kids under 8 to skate and was told my daughter could not bring in water. She would need to buy water inside. Water is the first thing we would try during a high sugar episode before having to give insulin. I informed the woman at the desk that there are special accommodations for diabetics under the ADA laws that allow her to have access to medications and supplies that are vital to her health. She insisted that they were a private company and didn't have to abide by the law - and that diabetics go there all the time. I spoke to the manager, David, who said the same thing insisting we buy water. I told him he was breaking the law and he said he would talk to a police officer inside. I also asked to speak to the officer who agreed with me but could not enforce the federal law. He was sympathetic at least. We have beem to water parks, airports, museums, and even the movies being allowed to have her supplies. When I asked for the name of the woman at the register, she wouldn't give it. We left with all 3 kids disappointed that they could not skate and my daughter feeling like it was her fault because of her disability. Absolutely love the folks at Lanham Skate Center. Venue isn't the most renovated but I always have a ball when I skate. The floor has some issues but will be under maintenance, so check them out in February (2023)! I go to the lessons and all of the instructors are so talented, patient, knowledgeable, and FUN. I went to this place on the 21 and up night and it felt like I was there on a 40 and up night now I'm 37 so I guess I am close to 40 but man, the music was so outdated I mean they was playing some old jams. Over the summer, I attended a private skate party here and we had a blast. The lively atmosphere reminded me of how much I missed this activity. People glided across the floor effortlessly and grooved to the music. Just before the party, I bought a new pair of skates and have spent the last few months trying to get my flow back after a long hiatus. I've been on Wednesday & Thursday adult nights and had a good time. Wednesdays (especially the 3rd one) brings a couple skate clubs and advanced mature skaters. It's like an unassuming dance club on wheels. The DJ plays smooth skating classics while folks work on trick moves with their buddies and men actually ask women for a skate. The crowd is a bit younger on Thursdays and you may hear some Salt -N- Pepa versus Everlasting Love by Chaka Khan. This facility is still decent despite the antiquated middle school style restrooms. This rink is smaller than Skating Palace (Temple Hills), but it's well maintained. Also, floor guards do a good job ensuring rink outlets are clear and people aren't getting trampled after a fall. Back in the day when LSC was called Wheel-a-While and later Seabrook, my crew skated because all our friends were doing it, we could listen to music, and socialize for cheap. I didn't give the fitness aspect much consideration back then. The reality is, roller skating is relatively safe and so awesome for fitness since its working your glutes, quads, calves, and abs. I burn over 700 calories during each session. I'm making progress, but can't wait to be 100% again! read more

The floor is awful. Very bumpy and uneven. The DMV area is desperate for rinks with great DJs for weekly sessions because of Covid, so they continue to support this rink. As long as we give them our money without demanding that the floor be taken care of properly, they'll just continue to take advantage of the skaters. The staff is nice, however the owner needs to take care of this rink better. My grandfather owned a rink and every summer we closed for a week and he had the floors maintained. I used to skate here yrs ago and now all of a sudden you cant use Rollerblades...now I understand that some places may not want us to use the back brakes on their floor due to the mark left behind...but how do you become that place AFTER you've let people use inline skates in the past for years, an lets be clear...their floor could DEFINITELY use some work......not to mention if someone is coming with rollerblades and doesn't have the back brake that your claiming is the reason you wont allow them, then why can't they still skate if the skates dont have them? Not the cleanest place I've seen. Outdated place with poorly kept floor for the skating rink. I was hoping this place would evoke memories of my younger childhood during skate nights. The excitement I would get when my parents would dropped me off for school's skate night. The smell of popcorn in the air and the sounds of slushee machines. The arcade games beeping and kids running around. The memories of floor games the business would have for prizes for tickets to come back again..or something from the snack bar. This place is not what I would imagine a roller skating rink to be. When I first open the door, I thought I was at a club. I had to double check the address. Not a great vibe or ambience. The sizes for the roller skates are not true to size. Figures why kids had their skates poorly put on. I wear 8.5 and ended up with size 7. He gave me a pair of skates that a girl just returned. I asked him if he had some shoe spray and he told me all skates have been sprayed before they opened. Odd because the skates were so warm and smelly when he gave them to me. I also was standing and watching him take them in, so I know these weren't clean. Thankfully, I brought another pair of socks. I think they also need to invest in new skates, they were just so worn and uncomfortable. For newbies, skate outside by the arcade machines. If you're unable to move fast enough the referees will come blowing the whistle and ask you to keep moving. Not impressed and I won't be returning. read more

I've been to better skating rinks. The furniture is all ripped up. You can't bring water in which is fine but once you order food and ask for water it shouldn't cost $.50 and once you buy a drink and ask for more ice it shouldn't cost an additional $.50. I held my daughters 8th birthday party at this skating ring, and overall im happy. The skating ring itself could use a little remodeling, none of the arcade games worked, but my child had fun with her friends, the skating ring is closed to the outside while parties are in session and that was MOST IMPORTANT to me, we even got an extra complimentary pizza. i was very pleased with the overall experience. read more

Ive been coming to Seabrook for about a year now. One can find a lot of inspiration and talent at this rink that makes you crave more and more every time you go. Its a little rough around the edges, but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else on a weekend. My wife and I try and drive over 45 minutes every other week to make it here! The music is always on point and never disappoints. Usually a good mix of new music and old school stuff. Check the schedule before coming. Its kid friendly on family days for sure. If you want to learn something, take the lessons offered by the center. It can all be found on their website. They are also open during covid times and everyone wears masks when skating so there are safety precautions in place. read more

They don't even have the training bar or kiddie area in the center of the rink. I don't think I saw that posted before going in. There aren't many tables at all. Like literally 8 and those are worn. Not many arcade games. Where are the workers in the rink? Like one who showed up late blowing the whistle at nothing. The rink floor is worn. Just shut this raggedy place down. Terrible. I came twice, once with family and once with a trip. What stands out are: 1) the facility is filthy and funky!! The upholstery looks to have NEVER been changed and that's over 30 years of use. The floor is not flat and smooth. 3) Rude staff 4) They are money hungry and nickel and dime you for everything. There are other rinks that are modern and updated, with better staff. Do yourself a favor and do not come to this rundown, broke-down, and hood establishment. They make enough money to stop being greedy and RENOVATE. I guarantee a reno will bring in even more business. read more

I was at this establishment earlier today for my niece's birthday party. I was totally thrown off with the $5 fee for adults to attend the party...are you serious? There were many complaints from adults after the party about this. In addition to that, an older adult got to the party close to the end and they took her keys in replacement for the fee to let her in, and was sure to find her and collect the $5 to "close her books". Wow! The staff was not the friendliest and there is a long list of rules and restrictions that have been stated in previous reviews...so be mindful if considering to skate at this establishment. Other than that, the kids seemed to have had a blast, which is most important (especially when you spend a good amount of money for these parties!) and I liked the gift of one month of free skating lessons offered to the birthday girl. Where do I start hhhhmmmm 1. They lied about there hours saying from 8pm-11pm but they close at 10pm 2. I have never said a skating rink is bad and this is terrible. I honestly felt like I was skating on rocks. Like we skating on stairs. 3. The skates had little to no soles in them. Felt like I was skating on pure metal. 4. The second I pulled my car up to the building, I wanted to turn around. The outside was far from impressive and the no refund policy fueled my hesitation. Still, my companions and I continued in. The inside reminded me of almost any other skating rink--albeit a little rundown looking. I immediately headed over to rent roller blades, only to learn that they only rent out roller skates. (If you want to use roller blades, you have to bring your own.) So, I settled for roller skates and stored my things in a locker. (Note that the lockers require cash and you have to pay every time you open it.) After everyone got laced up, we took to the floor to skate. Now, I have to admit that it took me a little while to get comfortable. Unlike most people, I find roller blades easier to skate on. Shortly after, I got yelled at by an employee for holding my phone in my hand. (I didn't have any pockets.) Apparently They have a very strict no cellphone policy on the rink. Even when I promised not to sue them or do anything else foolish in the event something happened to my phone, they wouldn't budge. Luckily, one of the people I came with had pickets, so I just left my phone with her. Once I got back to skating I noticed something strange. At first I thought I was being paranoid but no. Not only could the majority of the people here--primarily adults--skate well but they could do all sorts of tricks. I'm serious, y'all. I felt like I was in Roll Bounce. People were spinning around on one leg, skating backwards, doing flips, etc. it wasn't just 1 or 2 people either. At one point they cleared the floor so anyone who wanted to skate backwards quickly could and more than 1/4 of the people there stayed on the floor. I appreciated the fact that there were mostly adults there, but my entire group was intimidated with the skill of everyone else there. Seriously, even two little kids were outshining us with their tricks. The music is great--they play ran and r&b, but be prepared to reevaluate your skill as a skater. Otherwise, this is a great place for adults looking to roller skate. read more
