However, about 1 hr before my consultation appointment today, the vet Dr. Dayna Linehan, text me saying she was reading the notes and would suggest scheduling euthanasia as soon as possible. Dr. Dayna Linehan sent that text stating that WITHOUT having a conversation with me, WITHOUT assessing his quality of life and WITHOUT any compassion. Dr. Dayna Linehan's text was impersonal and short-sighted. Could she not have waited until our appointment to assess Max's situation. I never spoke with Dr. Dayna Linehan. I then found many negative reviews on Reddit about Lap of Love. Maybe this was a blessing in disguise. I would not want the worst day of my life to be with a cold and impersonal vet. read more

Lap of Love was recommended to me, and the people I spoke to on the phone we're extremely compassionate and helpful. However, Dr. Katie came, and the situation with my cat Bitsy became worse than it had been. The shot that was supposed to sedate did not-- instead it agitated her. I was the one who had to try to hold her down, and while Bitsy was growling in pain, I did not feel supported or guided as to what to do. Ultimately, I decided not to continue the process, and for that I am grateful. Bitsy stopped growing at me after 24 hours, and the following day I took her to the animal hospital, where she was euthanized peacefully in my arms. (They use a catheter to ensure the sedative all gets into the vein, and they seem much better equipped to intervene if something goes wrong, which it thankfully did not.) While I appreciate Lap of Love's compassion on the phone, I caution people to know what could happen. Bitsy has always been a feisty cat, even in old age and illness, so maybe she's an anomaly. But I need to share this story so people can be aware and prepared, and make an informed decision. read more

When our sweet girl Sume was diagnosed with heart disease two years ago we thought our days with her were numbered but she proved otherwise. She was tuned into our needs and allowed us to set the pace for sedating and then eventually giving the injection to end our cat's life. Both times, we were glad to be at our home in a place where our pet felt secure. One of us held the cat as she got the sedation and then died. We buried our pets in yard, but Lap of Love can help with other arrangements. They bring a small round, flattened bit of clay and they pressed the cat's paw into it for a memento (optional). This was our first time using an in-home euthanasia service and I can tell you it is the best decision for your pet. We had a 17 year old dog who we loved more than anything and we didn't want her last moments to be at the vet hospital with the noise, strange smells, and stress all around. The cost is about the same as taking your pet to the vet so why not keep them comfortable at home? Dr. Ashley is who came to our house from Lap of Love. She was AMAZING. First of all, our dog, who normally does not like strangers, immediately nuzzled up to her. Second, Ashley was so patient and kind with us. She explained everything in detail and gave us as much time as we needed to say goodbye, ensuring that our dog was very comfortable the entire time. Afterwards, Ashley took our dog on a stretcher to her car and took her to the crematorium so we did not have to go through that gut-wrenching process. She is obviously a very smart vet, but so so compassionate with both the animals and the humans involved. I would recommend this service to anyone - I have zero complaints and if I could rate Lap of Love 10 stars, I would. Lap of Love was the best decision I could have made for my sweet Sparrow. I did an in-home euthanasia for my 12 year old best friend after he was diagnosed with nasal cancer and turned from bad to worse in 2 days. I originally scheduled a 7pm visit and when things got worse I called and changed it to 11 am. The girl that came in was extremely gentle and loving. She explained everything to us so we would know how things would go. The process was very humane and gave me the chance to give my baby dignity and be with him through his last moments, I held him as he went with all of his loved ones surrounding him. I also got a pawprint and clipping from his tail which I loved. There was a little mix-up and I ended up not getting back his ashes but they were EXTREMELY nice and up front with me about the mix-up which was very honorable. They refunded my money and gave me gift card for a jewelry piece to remember Sparrow by. I would definitely recommend Lap of Love to anyone and everyone. Although not something I want to go through again anytime soon, I can not recommend Dr. Lauren and Lap of Love enough. Our Jasmine had multiple health issues, and her usual vet told us that she would decline rapidly and that her final week would be painful and inhumane. We decided to call Lap of Love on the recommendation of Jasmine's vet. I cried all throughout the call to the lovely coordinator (and I'm so sorry but I was so upset that I failed to get her name). She listened quietly and spoke so kindly to me that I felt at ease with this company from that point onward. A couple of days later, the day finally came. Dr. Lauren came into the house and sat down with Jasmine and spoke to her gently. She walked us through the entire process and she followed our cues and only went to the next step after she had explained it thoroughly and we gave the go ahead. She was amazing, and I have no idea how she does it! After she had passed peacefully with her head in my lap, Jasmine was respectfully covered in a soft blanket, and taken by stretcher to Dr. Lauren's transport vehicle. Within a week, we received a call that Jasmine's cremation box was ready for us to pick up at our vet. She was interred in a lovely hand carved box, and we were given a lock of her fur and a paw print for keepsakes.
