I was craving ice cream and wanted to to go somewhere that had local flavors. After checking out Yelp, I found Lappert's and I couldn't wait to try them out! They're located in the Hilton Hawaiian Village. A small shop that was close by to the pool of the hotel. There were a lot of options on the menu (coffee, tea, smoothies, shakes, ice cream etc.). Each of the flavors had descriptions, and we got the Kona coffee with Oreo cookie crunch (two scoop), and the Kauai pie (single scoop). The flavors were awesome! The Kona coffee was creamy and tasted exactly like a good cup of coffee. The Oreo cookie crunch had big chunks of Oreo in rich chocolate ice cream. And the Kauai pie was packed full of flavors with the coconut, macadamia nuts, and fudge mixing great together. Definitely a great place to check out. Awesome menu with options for everyone! Disappointing experience. Ordered a couple of ice cream cones, both regular size scoops, but one looked like a child size even though same price. The real issue was the order for the Ku'Au Hot Fudge bomb. We should've asked if they had all the ingredients for the sundae cause when we received the item it was missing almost all the extras such as the whipped cream, macadamia nuts and the waffle fan cookie. When I asked about the missing items, they simply replied they had ran out. I asked why they didn't mention that when we placed our order, the lady shrugged her shoulders then called her supervisor. I love the ice cream here. I decided to try a milk shake...tell me why my kona coffee (dark brown) ice cream turned into a near pure white milkshake and i could barely detect a hint of kona coffee. My friend's mint chocolate chip (green) ice cream milkshake was the same color as my kona coffee such that the employee had to tell us which was which. If i wanted a cup of milk and cream, i would have just ordered that. You mean to ask 'what kind of a treat'. At almost 3 and a half, you carry very few remnants of your days as our sweet pea baby. Proper speech can wait. I asked Mommy to allow you to continue your baby talk and I, of course, encourage it by responding to your baby question without no intention of making a correction. "Ice-cream, Cody!" I picked you up with one arm as we walked towards the ice-cream dipping cabinets. The immediate weight on my shoulder is yet another reminder that toddler time waits for no parent. This reminder was felt physically, and rather sharply on my joints. I resolved to do more push-ups going forward and wrapped my other arm around your hip as support. From the higher vantage point, you were able to see all the colors and flavors. Red, brown, orange, pink (your favorite), purple -- all the colors of the rainbow. You dipped your head into your chest to hide your face. Mommy calls this your "excited smile". When you see something you love, your mouth curls instinctively into the sweetest smile. Then you tilt your head down and shrink into your shoulders to hide this expression. You do this when we tell a joke you find funny, when I bring home a surprise treat for you, and evidently, when you realize that there truly is a lot of ice cream in the world we inhabit. Mommy says it's maybe because you're a sensitive little boy and sometimes it's difficult for you to process the rush of emotions that comes with excitement. Even if the emotion is a positive and/or happy one, such as seeing the many Lappert's ice cream all at once, you may opt to hide it instinctively. Perhaps you feel everything more acutely so you take more time to absorb it all. Perhaps you are already self-aware and are embarrassed about expressing yourself. You asked the same question after each mouthful of ice-cream, this time no longer hiding your smiles in between. "Why is this so Neptune (cold)?" you kept asking, even though you know it's ice cream. Hearing your baby talk made me think once more. Three and a half, already. How much longer do we have until you become aware of the social norms? Until you subconciously accept the 'shy', 'introverted', 'reserved' labels? Until you read somewhere that your feelings should be accepted and 'normalized' by society? Mommy and I are not sure, and even when it comes, we are not sure how to tackle it. All we know is to continue to give you time and space. To know that with a little patience, you can be giggling with a Lappert's ice cream cone melting in your hands. Lappert's has become a go-to spot for my family when we stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. It's in a convenient place, across the main hotel lobby and next door to Round Table pizza. Not to mention it's ice cream, shakes, coffee and tea, bakery... I mean, basically something for everyone! We discovered that they do a stamp card here so you can pick for bakery or ice cream. After 10 purchases you get one free. So when you have a family of 5 and everyone gets a scoop, you just gotta go twice during the stay. Granted, the price of the ice cream is more costly than Baskin Robbins but I think it's worth the splurge, especially during a staycation. During our Christmas stay we went twice and we were able to get our free cone. I got the Pualei's cookie crunch which is basically a chocolate smoothie drink and my niece got a the Strawberry Tiki smoothie (Strawberry, mango and lilikoi which is passion fruit). Needless to say she enjoyed mine better- I blame the chocolate. But after drinking mine and then drinking hers, yeah, I liked mine better too. The strawberry and lilikoi was a little tart. We had gotten the 16 Oz sizes but we didn't finish it all in one sitting. My parents both got ice cream and they enjoyed their treats. The next time we came on the December visit, I got a scoop of heavenly Hana ice cream in a waffle cone. It was a dark chocolate ice cream with a marshmallow swirl, chocolate covered roasted almonds and white chocolate Mac nuts and sea salt. I normally don't care for chocolate ice cream but this was delicious! I ate it all, no dripping! I also got the butter crumb cake which was amazing and so yummy, just nuke it for like 15 second and it's so good! I wish I ate it with vanilla ice cream or something but i will definitely get this again! So now I'm back again and My family went to get ice cream while I was working and came back with cones and a waffle bowl. They totally forgot to bring me the sorbet after calling to see what I wanted but it's all good. Because the weather, the cones didn't stay as crispy as normal. Boo. But it was still tasty ( I stole some of my mom's waffle bowl). My niece chose the dipped cone with the heart and got nene tracks. My sister was not that impressed with this flavor saying that there wasn't a lot of the nuts and candy. I haven't tried this ice cream though since I tend to stick with vanilla and caramel or Kona coffee with Java chips. Luckily, tonight when we stopped after ordering garlic bread from Round Table Pizza, there was no line so I got to check out all the flavors and we chose to get a pint of Big Island Inspiration. Which is vanilla with a caramel ribbon and pieces of chocolate covered macadamia shortbread and I think get Mac nuts too but I forgot to take the picture of the ice cream sign! I'm happy you can get a hand packed pint or quart so you can take it back to the room to eat at your leisure... which I forgot to do so it will be here for dessert tomorrow. So to sum up... ice cream- variety of flavors to choose from. Tasted delicious. Conveniently located in resort, can charge to your room, stamp card! I did not know (disappointed) about their loyalty card so ask them about it please. If you're going to stay for more than 1-2 days it totally makes sense to get that card. With most places closed at the Hilton village, this place was a life saver. Coffee is very average. Tried all of the blended ones they have. Maybe the amount of Kona is really little. I'm not into flavored coffee so it's not a shocker I didn't like the chocolate macadamia nut. Teas, however, are great. The bergamot was my favorite. Tasted close to a French earl grey to me. The Assam no 49 was great as well. Because I was on holiday I used to order a pastry each day. Coconut pineapple muffin is a favorite now. The scones are interesting but fall short (3/5) on technicality (sorry, pastry snob here). They have other standard coffee drinks as well! Their ice cream variety is huge. They have vegan options as well. I think the best deal of you can't decide is the "can't decide" one which is five generous scoops in a waffle bowl for $10. The coconut pineapple was my favorite followed by the kuai pie. The Kona coffee is a close third. The coconut-passion fruit-raspberry was fine but raspberry dominates and I'm a coconut person. They let you have a taste before you order so make an informed decision. FYI their mango sorbet has made me a sorbet convert. Order that please (you're welcome!) I'll definitely go back because it's pretty much open all day and not highly overpriced given it's inside the hiton village! read more

(The other one is next to the lagoon) We got here when the line wasn't as long (thank goodness) but it got long right after we got there. There were 2 women helping us, a grouchy one and a nice one. The grouchy one seemed to hate her job and dislike helping customers and scooped smaller servings than the other girl did. I feel like half of us got ripped. (The nice girl was very sweet and helpful, though.) I got uala and haupia w/ kona coffee, kids got normal stuff like chocolate chip and mint and strawberry. Been searching for the creamiest ice cream in Oahu and I finally found it. Luckily for me it's in my home base, Waikiki and at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We went on a Friday in the midst of the fireworks and it had a line out the door. We waited only 20 minutes whereas after the firework show passed, it was definitely double that. This ice cream shop has flavors that are made only in Hawaii which makes it even more enticing to try. There's an endless supply of froyo and açaí on the island, but not nearly enough ice cream. And as someone who's been living here as long as I have, the gelato places haven't nearly impressed me as much as this place did. You can taste every single flavor in the ice cream. It's that good.
