Small, neighborhood place with excellent food that still somehow always manages to find me a table. Favorites are Meatloaf and the burgers. Very good desserts, too. I wrote the above just before we went tonight (yelp prompt). I'm not changing the rating because anyone can have an off night, but wow, this was an off night. Took 5-7 minutes to see the hostess (this is a SMALL place). Iceberg lettuce with chicken was absolutely drowned in dressing (The part I was able to eat was very good)....chicken tender and perfectly cooked, and lots of it. Desserts (after a few false starts....it was the tail end of their service...took them a few minutes to figure out what they did and didn't have) were lukewarm almost cold, not hot (chocolate lava is ordinarily great, blueberry crumble would have been great had it been hot). Came here for the first time on a Saturday night. Arrived at 5:30, seated at 6pm, order taken at 6:20, and food arrived at 7pm (actually only the kids food arrived then- mine didn't come out of the kitchen til 7:15). They were PACKED and we were warned that food was taking longer than usual. A bit loud in the restaurant. The kids got pasta and chicken fingers. I got the bbq rips with French fries and green beans. We've been regulars here for years and last night we had an experience that will unfortunately be our last visit. We arrived at 4:15 and were told the kitchen didn't open until 5:00. No problem -- we were happy to wait and ordered drinks. We had a friend with us, and we were excited to bring her to one of our favorite spots. A server seated us in a large booth and we settled in. After 45 minutes of waiting, they brought menus -- and then moments later informed us we had to move to a small table in case a larger party came in. We'd been sitting in that booth for nearly an hour, waiting on them. The restaurant was practically empty. There was no manager on site, just a server telling us "it's our policy" with zero flexibility or apology. The waitress was abrupt and dismissive, and our loyalty as regulars meant nothing. It was rude and very embarrassing. We paid our drink tab and left. The food here has always been good, which makes this so disappointing. But being treated like an inconvenience after years of patronage isn't something we'll forget -- or repeat. read more

LT is located in downtown Larchmont on a busy street. You can find your popular pub food here but better, most or all of their deli meats are made in house. Huge menu with a good selection of draft beers. There are outside seating and you get to take in the busy street scenes, they also have a covered patio area which is really nice. Service is prompt and friendly, ambience is layback with that small town feeling. Pretty upscale and not too loud. Food quality is high and served hot, large portion that can be shared. This place ranks in my top ten for having great wings. The Arturo wings, which are a combination of both BBQ & Buffalo sauce are so good. Mains are nicely sized and you will usually have enough for some take home to enjoy later. The restaurant is bigger than it looks. Plenty of seating, good for kids and medium sized groups of 5 to 10 people. The servers are friendly and keep everything moving at a good pace. Public parking lots are close and on a nice day it is good to walk around the business area. Steak Connoisseuse write #1 2/10/2024 I'm at Larchmont tavern (LT) and I'm eating prime aged New York Strip steak. VERY juicy, red in the middle ( my favorite In my opinion), and also the after taste like when your done chewing is very flavorful depending on the red on the piece of steak. but... all the juice is stored in the red or the middle of the steak and when you pick it up and it gets inside your mouth all and I mean all the juice comes out in your mouth leaving with the steak... it has no more flavor from when the juice came out. As a frequent patron who has been steadily disappointed in the consistency of the food, we decided to give it one more chance today for lunch. Since the burgers were very good last visit, we ordered them again thinking that this would be a "safe" choice. Our order was 2 burgers , a French onion soup, and Shrimp bisque. The Burgers were tasteless and reminiscent of frozen patties void of any juiciness. The soups were so very salty that they were inedible, with the "shrimp" cooked to death. It's a institution. I grew up in Larchmont and go back every time I'm back home. The black and white photos on the walls have not changed much, the service is still indifferent, and the crowd is the same too - every table jam packed with families, young couples, old timers. Oh. I guess I'm one of those old-timers now! Do not go to the LT for a Niçoise salad! Really. That's just common sense. There are plenty of great local places to get a salad. At LT, go for the Balboa, a cheeseburger, meatball sub, roast beef sub, clam chowder. It's an amazing institution, and I'm so glad it's still around and as packed as ever. I remember my parents dropping my off to stand on line while they parked. Last time I was there, I saw two kids come in and get on line, telling the waiter their parents were parking. Last night was our second dinner experience here, the first visit did not disappoint! So last night we both ordered the batter dipped fried shrimp! It came with mashed potatoes and sautéed zucchini which was delicious! The shrimp were enormous and perfectly cooked! They put City Island to shame! When I order a salad I expect the lettuce to be green. .Not so today in my nicoise salad. I would never serve brown lettuce in a salad. It's just so unappetizing not to mention inedible. Not sure why they put lettuce in the salad. Thankfully the salmon was delicious. The haricot vert ( what should have been) was green beans overcooked. Not sure why potato salad was on the plate. The hot dog and cheeseburger were hits with the children. So was the macaroni and cheese The salmon wrap was half eaten. The fries looked good. I wouldn't return. Don't ever order for delivery. This is my fifth time trying and their fifth fail. Gorgonzola salad--by its very name--should have gorgonzola as a primary ingredient. When you're actually at The LT, it does. But when they deliver, you'd be hard pressed to find more than a crumble or two. (I took a picture showing one or two very small pieces but not sure how to attach it). And forget about asking for it "chopped". Never once when I've requested it chopped (which I always do) have they managed to do so. I don't know why I ever think they'll deliver a good Gorgonzola salad. We were two people, asked if we can sit in a booth that fits four. One of us is an elderly lady. They said no it's for four people- the place was empty!!! As far as the food is concerned, the wings are legendary, crispy, saucy and delicious! The Gorgonzola salad is the one to order and the sandwiches are biiiiig and tasty. 4 & 1/2 skewing high to tactically boost up this places cumulative score...Seriously, what gives? My theory is that locals must take issue with the sale of this place at some point from the longtime owners to new ones or something similar and simply can't accept that things change. I am basing this off things inferred by somewhat cryptic comments in the plethora of poor reviews on here that drop the cumulative rating to a paltry 3. Well, I am damn sure no local here so I cannot speak to whatever fraught local history/baggage that may be reliving itself on this yelp page, I can only speak to my recent experiences in here in the here and now, specifically the fall of 2018 when I have been in this village tiny, moneyed, first-generation inner-ring suburb straddling the NYC Westchester, where I've been tethered over the past couple of weeks for a work project. This place became something of a daily ritual for me while posted here and a crucial portal into the community. From where I sit I can say that to call this might be amongst the MOST underrated establishment I have encountered in my many years Yelping, particularly one located outside (albeit barely) of a city. After my now numerous visits here I can now definitively say this place meets all of my qualifications of not only a damn great bar, but also a local institution. The key components are all there: The place dates to the 30s and in its current incarnation has been beautifully updated while retaining many of the gorgeous original details. A wide variety of regulars will surely be bantering back and forth with the uniformly charmingly old-school and on point bartenders and accompanying staff. The tap selection seems pretty usual at first glance, save for the crucial addition of the especially made "Larchmont Tavern Pale Ale" produced by the justifiably locally esteemed Westchester Brewery Captain Lawrence. It winds up being a flat out delicious beer, one they could have easily put out for larger release as opposed to blessing the LT with it as their house beer. All of the above would already surely justify me giving this place a fully legit 4 stars but the extra boost is given on the strength of the food: Firstly I must address the house version of the official Westchester sandwich known as the Balboa: While I was expecting something resembling a Philly Cheesesteak no doubt in large part due to it being named for Philly's most famous fictional pugilist, the Balboa, offered at a wide variety of establishments ranging from Deli's to pubs like this across the lower swath of the county, is actually an altogether different animal, really pretty much completely unrelated to the cheesesteak other than it being a hero sandwich with beef in some form in the center. While the Cheesesteak is a melting, melding mass of freshly cooked steak shavings and cheese in onions cooked fresh to order on a hot grill, a Balboa is room temperature roast beef, topped with a more lightly melted SWISS cheese (something tells me Swiss might not ever be acceptable on ANY sandwich in Philly, but most definitely NOT on a cheesesteak) placed atop a quality toasted roll of either garlic bread or garlic dressing doused hero bread. There seems to be no real even clue to as where in lower Westchester this Sammy was created (it seemingly emerged sometimes in the 80s and spread in the 90s and 2000s) this place certainly seems to be the oldest establishment which serves it, so thats surely worth something, right? What's more the house version is an extremely solid and satisfying sandwich, made with delicious house made roast beef and freshly toasted to order garlic bread. While its popularity is surely in large part due to that classic and all too combination of hometown pride and nostalgia, and its quite frankly not likely to surpass the cheesesteak as a favorite sandwich of non Westchester-native, its certainly worth having a least one Balboa in a lifetime, and this seems to be one of the best places in the universe to have one. What I found myself having on almost every occasion Ive come here however are the WINGS. If you follow me regularly you know they are one of my weaknesses, but also a dish that all too often disappoints. These versions are anything but, at least when ordered well done/extra crispy, as you must. My close Westchester-bred friend long ago put me on to the local Wing institution across the county on the Scarsdale-Yonkers border Candlelight Inn. That place is justifiably lauded even beyond the County borders for its wings, and they are indeed worth all of the hype. If these wings aren't exactly as good, the difference is basically negligible, and that is very high praise indeed. While theres plenty to disturbed by in this hedge-fund-creep infested yuppie town, this old school classic American bar is not one of those things. Whatever local drama went on in the past, today the #LT is firing on all cylinders IMO. read more

For someone who has lived in the area all my life I had never been here until the other night! I went for a family dinner and arrived a bit earlier so waited by the bar area. It was busy and narrow so allowing people to get by was difficult. The waitress had good options as well as a large drink list. I got the Mac and cheese and found it to be very flavorful and worthwhile. The sandwiches that others in my party got looked huge. Food prices were normal and you got a good portion. I'd suggest going on a weekday when it's not so busy, but I would come back again! read more
