Visiting from Texas with lifelong friends. Dropped in for dinner last night. Crowded, but comfortable. Great service. Nice menu with lots of choices. I had the fish and chips after beginning with French onion soup. The pretzel rolls were a nice touch. I thought the food was very good and the French onion soup was really really good! Friday night dinner at Emma's Ale House was a great start to the weekend, with the gracious welcome in from the rain, to our server Joseph - who played a key part of the 5 star review. We opted for drinks and a mix of appetizers to split. Portions were very generous. The Emma's Ale House chopped salad was divided between two plates for us, as we nibbled on the Turkey Chili and the spinach and artichoke dip with tortilla chips. Everything was fresh and tasty and served quickly. Joseph was so hospitable and eager to make our experience perfect. This will definitely be a repeat destination. read more

So, we went to this place for my uncles b-day and my cousin happens to have had a limp at the time because of a little league accident. So he limps in and two of the workers whisper about how dramatic he's being and saying that he was fine. He was 6. He couldn't understand why the people were being mean. My brother who has adhd was bouncing in his seat and a server came over to him and said "can you stop moving around? You're being disrespectful. My mom explained his adhd to her and she said "oh so your bringing a special needs kid in here?" my brother was crying. My cousin ordered a Mac and cheese and, an hour later they come out with the food and they give him a burger. My family is vegetarian. My aunt explains the mistake and the waiter tells my cousin to "grow up". Never going back. read more

We visit the area once a year and always stop at Emma's Ale house on our way from JFK to Dutchess County. Originally we stopped because our daughter is named Emma. However, it became a regular stop because the food is consistently good and the service is solid. read more

Ordered a medium burger with Mac & cheese on top. Wasn't sure what to expect but my taste buds were ready for flavor town..... deeply disappointed. Meat was frozen and thawed and frozen and thawed... I could taste it.... Charred on the outside as it should but the stale freezer taste was lingering. It wasn't moist as a medium burger should be at all. I gave them two stars for presentation but it wasn't that good at all. The Mac n cheese was not. No salt in the processed cheese which was also bland. The fries were fresh cut and were actually good. They also dropped a fresh pretzel before the burger. Overkill if you are having a burger ON a pretzel bun but meh. The bartender was an elderly gentleman and he was nice once he warmed up. I'm not a local so he was kind of alarmed I stayed ‍ it's a sports bar but they make staff wear bow ties to make up for the inflated prices ? Doesn't make sense but if they like it I love it. Menu fonts are tiny. Bring readers just in case. I didn't drink but the bar had lots to choose from. If I was in the area I'd try something fried to see if they got it right but this was a disappointment. read more

My two stars is strictly due to the price-to-value ratio. Food continues to be very good, and we have no complaints about their service. We live in walking-distance to Emma's, and so we have probably eaten dinner there two dozen times since they opened 15 years ago. That said, I haven't been for dinner in a few years (per COVID). Last night we returned with a degree of excitement. Four adults shared a single Brussels sprouts appetizer. Between us were two burgers, a fish and chips and one chicken pot pie. Two had cocktails and two had beer. We finished with their amazing Krispy Kreme bread pudding. No coffee or tea ... just the dessert. What's your guess on the bill for this solid quality neighborhood ale house? You say $35 or $40 per person? That seems like about what it should be for a better-quality brew pub in Westchester. But sorry ... guess again. The invoice was $193 before tip. With a reasonable gratuity we dropped $230 ... or just shy of $60 per person for burgers and drinks. Wowza! Oh ... and now Lilly's charges 3.99% for the convenience of using a credit card. Sure ... they say they'll give a discount for those that pay in cash (a clever sales job that masks that you simply added 4% to your prices) but we forgot to stop by the US Mint for a wheel barrow of cash before sitting down for this Epic $200+ meal. I am so incredibly disappointed that our neighborhood brewpub is now on par with Westchester gourmet gems. While Emma's serves delicious Irish-inspired meals that are a noticeable step above other burger joints in town, I cannot possibly see how $60 pp for last evening is even in the zone. Emma's prices were so out of whack that when the bill came, I had to pass it around to others to ensure I was reading it right. My friends couldn't believe we weren't charged for someone else's Beluga caviar. We loved Emma's. Before COVID, we'd walk over after a hard day at the office or drop by on a Saturday or Sunday evening without even batting an eyelash. But with Emma's now at this level of expense, we'll wait until our Christmas bonus or that winning lottery ticket. The price-to-value ratio just doesn't work anymore. read more

Our server was 5 star --totally awesome The bartender gave my daughter Tylenol--mensch! I got Murray's brick chicken and, as usual, rather admirable! Crispy skin chicken, almost perfectly moist. Sauce to die for, it was delicious and generous in portion. The spinach and artichoke dip was ok, a bit bitter and watery. Suggest a little flour thickener and a bit more garlic maybe a touch of onion might have helped with bitterness. It was okay to good as is but not great. This is my favorite restaurant in Westchester. I love the Emma's chophouse salad, the photos of dogs on the walls, and the friendly, casual atmosphere. Love Emma's for so many reasons. The laid-back vibe, the friendly staff, the parking, the varied menu, the sports bar/cozy neighborhood restaurant feel, and the constant array of specials (special shout out to the cauliflower pizza!). I've been eating at Emma's for years and am so happy they are back following a long sabbatical. I've sampled much of the menu but often go for the country style chophouse salad and loads of their housemade warm pretzels. I came to Emma's for the first time with coworkers. Emma's has a very old feeling to it, not the decore - the atmosphere. Majority of people who entered were in their 60's. We started at the bar where a bartender in his 80's serves you. He made good drinks, but don't expect fast service. We ordered apps at tye bar, which were not good. Pretzels cake out as soon as we ordered them (like immediately) they were over cooked, and tasteless. Nachos were alright... the brussles were by far the worst! Just a cup of over cooked greasey pieces. Dinner I had the Mac attack burger. Although I did enjoy it, it was nothing special. Just a standard pub burger with Mac and cheese on it. Dessert was another let down. I ordered a hot chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. The "chocolate chip" cookie was almost like a blondie, with hot fudge on it. The ice cream was solid as a rock - total miss. Also very small. Overall I don't see myself coming back, poor food and an old atmosphere. read more

We've been eating here for years and I decided to write a review for the first time after eating there again last night. Some places know what they are and excel by continuing to be just that. Emma's is one of them. It's is a casual place with excellent bar/pub food that is better than what you can get from other places. If you look around, you will notice people working the dining room that have been there for years, which I take as a good sign that the place is well-managed. The service is certainly professional. Great burgers, steaks, fish and salads. Two things stand out for me--the fish and chips, which is better than anything I've had, even in London, and the glazed doughnut bread pudding with vanilla ice cream--absolutely deadly and easily big enough to share. Yes, it has gotten a little pricier than it was. All the restaurants I've been to in the past couple of years have. I know you can probably get the kind of food Emma's serves a little cheaper at other places, but is it really worth saving a few bucks and sacrificing quality food and service? I don't think so. If you're looking for somewhere to have a nice casual meal, this is it. Just make reservations if you're planning to go in prime time on the weekend. read more

What a cute place!! This restaurant is dedicated to the owners dog. While there unfortunately was no dog at the restaurant to pet, there were portraits of dogs hanging on all the walls :) Our waiter (didn't catch his name sadly) was extremely friendly and charismatic and the service was fast and attentive. The food was all incredible- so flavorful, so delicious, and not at all like a typical burger place/ ale house. The Emma's Mac Attack burger is a MUST!!!! And the onion rings were incredible!!! And the dessert was delicious too (didn't even get a chance to take a picture before we gobbled it down) If you're not in the mood for burgers, they have tons of other food like pastas, salads, steaks, etc. Will definitely be returning!! read more

I was excited to try this place out and went with my service dog. Immediately, the hostess demanded to see paperwork to certify that he is a service dog, which is illegal under the American with Disabilities Act, ADA. Been a while since reviewing Emma's. We keep coming here despite the slightly high prices. The food is always good. Tried the short rib quesadilla and thought it could be more flavorful. First night opened since the lockdowns and it was like they never missed a day. I had the deconstructed chicken pot pie which was just as good as I had remembered. onion rings for the appetizers and my guests ate the salmon sandwich and the Philly cheesesteak and everything was cooked perfectly so you savor every bite. We arrived just as they were opening so we had no trouble getting seated right away. Waiter was attentive but not on top of us all the time. Beers on tap were a decent but commonly found selection. I opted for a Guinness. Food was ordered and I had a couple of spoonfuls of the corn chowder...delicious. My burger, while it sounded interesting on the menu, turned out be be more or less average and for $23, I was hoping for something better. Firstly, this place is not just great to dine in. With kids at home it is tough to actually go out to eat, so we get take out from Emma's. It comes fresh and as delicious as if you were sitting in the dining room. We ordered take out tonight and could not have been happier. I had the burger special, which was pepper-jack cheese, bacon, crispy banana peppers, general tso's drizzle on a pretzel bun. The burger was amazing, the perfect balance of heat, spice and pretzel bun. I mean, seriously, who doesn't love a pretzel bun? My wife had the taco special. In a word: delicious. Definitely not a place that caters to the craft beer crowd. Our server on the other hand was great. Friendly, courteous, and attentive. Restaurant is divided into two sections, sports bar on one side and typical family eating section on the other. We sat in the bar side which was quite noisy. Place appeared to be well kept. We may have found our second favorite place in White Plains. Delicious food, great vibe and a helpful staff definitely make Emma's a worthwhile spot. Emma's is like so many English pubs I frequented when I was living in London; comfortable, cozy, and great atmosphere. For me, this type of venue is the ideal spot to have a meal and a drink. Very simple, very homey. I also liked that the building is split down the middle between pub and restaurant. You can dine in, or just grab a pint and a sandwich at the bar and watch a game. The food is definitely up there with some of the better meals we had in the area. Our table ordered the French onion soup, a burger platter with fries,a grilled chicken salad, and a turkey wrap platter, and everything was fresh and flavorful. No complaints from anyone. They also had these pretzel bread sticks which were sensational! It's definitely not the cheapest place in White Plains, but you will most certainly get a solid meal at Emma's. Im basing this review on my first and only visit which happened to be during a weekday afternoon, for lunch. I sure do hope things get more lively in a few hours past my visit - for their benefit! I would really like to see this venue succeed and keep itself around! I happen to know, because I grew up close by, that anyone who touches the place seems to fail. Unfortunately so. The current restaurant, Emmas ale house, is just one of the other 3 or establishment names in about 15 years. So, we ended up eating in this quaint and relaxed establishment. I do also want to note that because of its location, I dont think there is any "passing traffic" by foot or car, to help spread the word. Itd almost be natural that locals of the surrounding neighborhood would be the ones to notice and observe the change. You see, unluckily, next door is located the famous, also awesome, "Sam's" restaurant. Going to Sam's is what brought Emma's ale into my mind in fact. They are neighbors, on Gedney Way, an uncommon street that is located as a turn off of Mamaroneck Avenue, right across the street is the large and very green Burke Rehavilitation Center. But the street is such a small one that unless you had a reason, youd probably never hear about the spot. It's very much a hidden gem in a generally residential neighborhood. It's just about where the neighborhood known as "the highlands" begins. Particularly now, with (sub)urban sprawl, it feels all the more unique to go to a restaurant that is in a charming and low key area. Our server at the restaurant didnt take long to seat us. He was welcoming and wearing an adorable bow tie. From there, we ordered a variety of foods.. my partner & I did what we always do, which is get 2 entrees and share. We went with a simple burger & fries, as well as a salad. A highly appreciated but rare occurence took place - because they knew we were sharing, they took it upon themselves to split the food onto 2 separate plates! Loved that. So much better than just an extra "sharing plate." Oh, and rewinding quickly - To my most pleasant surprise, they provided a salted pretzel loaf to dip into mustard, free! How often do you find that gesture around anymorr? On principle, as opposed to the $1 they may spend, I love when places do that. For drinks, I got a pumpkin spiced cappuccino and it was fantastic.. not too this or too that, flavor-wise...and now, a massive confession that i need to make is, I ate their krispy Kreme sundae!! Each bite, delicious, but dangerously so! Too big for one person! It has 2 krispy Kreme donuts, chocolate, whip, all you could expect but that youd never blend on your own! We also got a brilliantly delicious cakey creme brulee dessert, with iced cream. This space feels more like a restaurant than any kind of simple sports bar but upon entry, you do have to choose one of 2 sections, depending on your purposes.. When you enter, you're in a slightly upscale fully loaded sports bar (i.e. TVs on, playing sports). But, that area accounts for less than half of the full space. If you want to sit in the dining room, you just hang a left and poof, sports bar be gone! The menu overall was reasonable/normal in their pricing. It also had plenty of options so theres something for everyone. It's not uncommon but do know that they dont serve "breakfast." They have a brunch offering although not on weekdays. Go Gedney Way! I went for a special one with mozzarella and the most delicious bacon. Fries are excellent though ours were a little on the tepid side, before we asked for some fresh hot ones.
