Found this salon through Groupon, decided on the Gel X set. Lorena did my nails and they came out really good, I'm definitely impressed. It was my first time getting this kind of set. The salon was really cute and clean. The lady who greeted/sat me down and checked me out was really nice too. The $22 deposit to book the appointment can go towards anything you add on, or to tip your nail artist, so that wasn't a big deal for me at all. Definitely will be back! read more

Everything about the service was great! This place is so hidden and quite a gem. Very upscale service and perfect for big groups like bachelorette parties or maybe pre-prom events. The workers guided me through several options of what I could do for my nails and I was extremely satisfied with the outcome!! They were quick to quote me too when I asked and my acrylic tips came out to be around $50-60. They do a lot of other services too that I'm not as familiar with (lashes, pedicure, facials, etc.) The person in charge was so attentive as well: whether I needed to have my phone charged, what I wanted to drink, letting me know about the parking situation (noting ticketing happens fairly often on Castleton if you don't use the meter, but side streets don't cost anything!). The area is not so nice and no lot so you must pay the meters. The place looks beautiful inside and the owners speak English as well as some of the technicians. I got acrylic tips with gel polish and two designs for 68 so a little expensive. The manicure lasted 4 weeks and she did a really good job. The woman who did the pedicure was new and really slow. I just wanted to treat myself to a Halloween manicure. However, the experience was long and confusing. I'm order to book an appointment you must put down a deposit and choose a specific technician to do your nails. I did not know who I was booking as my tech so I just chose one who had availability the same day. My service started as soon as I walked in however the tech was completely inexperienced. She placed the acrylic on my nails so haphazardly and did not know how to shape, file, and smooth it down. I didn't complain because I figured it would've looked better as she finished the process. It continued to get worse as she did the design and placed the gel polish so messily on the acrylic. At that point I Just wanted to ask for someone else- so I did. I had asked to have a tech next to me finish my nails but she had another client. So I waited. I was asked several times by different techs what I needed done I explained that I wasn't happy with the whole set but nothing could be done because the salon was closing. The owner called me personally and asked what I needed and said I can come back tomorrow without paying another deposit. As I was leaving I heard other workers say, "how could you sit there for hours and not say anything". I obviously didn't want to be rude and ruffle anyones feathers so I sat there hoping they would've been done better. The owner doesn't indicate who's new, or who is inexperienced on their website. The owner doesn't post a price list for any service which back fires because I overheard another customer say she wasn't notified of the price of her services and ended up owing 120 unexpectedly. I'm sticking with my usual spot and will never step foot in this establishment again. The lady that washed my hair clearly had no idea what she was doing, only shampooed my hair once, said she deep conditioned my hair when she had only used rinse out conditioner, never detangled my hair, and could not blow dry my hair either. I ended up not being able to get a trim like I wanted and had to blow dry my hair myself before getting braids. However, the lady that did my braids was very nice and they turned out well. Went on a Wednesday as a walk-in to get a gel manicure. Nail tech was nice and quick. By Friday, one of the mail's polish was coming off. I went back on Saturday to get it fix with no problem. By Tuesday, a few nails were cracked and the nail that was fixed started peeling again. I wanted so desperately to support a black owned business. my first experience was gel nails. the polish came off in two days. my second time, gel nails again. same result. I spoke to owner because I never had polish issues before with gel polish. i was advised to do the acrylic, which I did. that was a complete disaster. the nail polish came off in one shot. this time I complained and came in to get it fixed. when I got it fixed , to no avail, it came off the next day. so I tried just gettIno my toes done. This time I take a friend. we get regular polish, different people doing our feet. both of our polish on our big toe got messed up by the time we got home . and we spent over an hour waiting for it to dry because I was getting my nails done too but my friend was not. so that was my last straw. my nails lasted that time but my bill was crazy. I got three nails one color and two nails a different color. I was charged 23.00 extra dollars for that. Plus a 7percent charge for using a credit card and tax, which is a given . My bill should have only been 65 and went all the way to 105.00 . I was done with this place. my regular toe polish and my friend who got her toes done gets messed up, the gel polish never stays on, I had enough of supporting a business that hires incompetent employees. also I started with a group of women, five of us. I was the only one that wanted to give them a chance. what really got me was the 23.00 payment because I chose three colors. when a business changes their rules they should inform the customer because I did the three polishes on every occasion and was never charged. I can say one nice thing, the owner is not too talkative but she was accommodating to me with my complaint. She was very nice at times. A little standoff at times. Her staff was Berber friendly to me and their stations are dirty and messy. A lot of them don't clean their station for the new customer.the only employee that was nice was the one that messed up my nails completely. She hires these young people and they r not personable, not approachable. They don't say hello, nothin. But I do wish them luck. I would even be willing to go back if my nail polish would stay on for two weeks. I hope they see this and realize a clean station and politeness and information that is important needs to be communicatEd , especially when prices change. The green nails I got I picked three greens told the girl what to do . I never post reviews on Yelp but I felt upset leaving this place... I came here this morning for poly gel nails which I made an appointment through their online website. Unfortunately, my mother did not have an appointment but we called over the weekend and she was told a regular manicure and pedicure should not be an issue since "walk-ins are welcomed all the time." I explained to the front desk the exact conversation my mother had with the gentleman on the phone to which we were told "it's fine and that we won't leave the salon without our nails done...." My poly gel nails came out beautiful!! Loved the design and I received exactly what I requested. My mom also received her manicure (no color, just clean nails) but when she sat down for her pedicure, the woman from the front desk came to her and told her that she only asked for a manicure and that she can't sit for a pedicure. My gel mani is another story. My mani started to lift and peel on Tuesday, 6/22 - only 4 days after I got my mani. This is a GEL MANI, it should have lasted AT LEAST 6 weeks. Great first time experience. During my 2 minute wait, a young lady came over and asked if I wanted anything to drink (coffee, tea, soda or water and offered a snack!). The shop is clean and inviting. Went in for a pedi (Maria was awesome- almost fell asleep during leg scrub), and decided to get eyebrows cleaned up. The young lady knew what she was doing- so much so that I decided to have my eyebrows tinted (which is huge for me!) After my pedicure, I asked to get a filling & the receptionist did a certain facial and proceeded to say "mmm no". As a customer this made me feel as if I was getting the service done for free. I understand that I might've not had an appoitment but rather than having this kind of reaction I would've rathered an explanation. On the other hand, prices provided over the phone aren't exactly the price you'll pay once you arrive. Over the phone I was told it'd be a total of $54, once I went to pay I was told the total of $72 ( I was very detailed over the phone) after mentioning this my total went down to $63. I booked a hard gel service for 5:30, and on the day of my appointment received an email stating that my appointment was changed to 6. It would have been nice to have someone call me or answer the phone when I called to confirm that this time worked for me, because it didn't. I could have rescheduled for another day but after texting with one of the staff members, I don't think this is the place for me. I texted the number provided and the response was unprofessional. I had to pay a deposit to keep my spot, which I don't mind, I understand the purpose of that. However when I asked for a refund due to them cancelling my appointment I only received part of my deposit back and not the whole thing. Just moved to SI so I needed to find a good place to get my nails done. I actually found this spot in IG and from what I seen they work look nice. I made my appointment online for a full set and pedicure. When I walked in I was pleasantly surprised about the decor. The beautiful flower wall and telephone booth. I was greeted right away by the young lady at the desk. I was told to take a seat and pick the colors I wanted and she offered me a beverage. My appointment was @12 so I had a little wait but I didn't mind. I love the openness of the place so I felt very comfortable. When it was time to do my nails the young lady wiped down her station and told me to wash my hands. All the employees were wearing mask as well as the customer. I showed the young lady what design and style I want. I love me nails ( they are longer than I wanted ) but I am happy. My pedicure was also great I got a regular pedicure with gel polish. As an anti Staten Island person ...meaning I refuse to receive services on Staten Island. Trying to stop being negative & have an open mind. A friend of mine recommended I try this place and once I was informed it is the only black owned nail salon on Staten Island, that peaked my interest to try it out. Never did I think that I would spend majority of the day in there but hey these things happen. To make an appointment you have to do it only & put down a $20 deposit that goes towards your service. You cannot book 2 services at the same time (ex: pedi & mani). Have to book 1 then book the other. Walk ins are accepted but there will be a wait. Locations is on a main a street where the S46 runs. There is metered parking on the street the salon is on so try the side residential blocks. Decor is simple & chic. Sorry I didn't get to take pictures. Two large flat screen TVs are provided for entertainment. Coffee, Tea & Wine is served complimentary. Customer service is pleasant & attentive. Despite my elongated hiccup, it was ensured that my issues was resolved & that I left satisfied which was greatly appreciated. Went in on a Monday morning. I had an appointment and was seen within ten minutes. The girl at the front desk is very nice and the salon is big and clean. I got a gel mani and a regular pedi. I was surprised that the same nail polish is used for both gel and regular. six of my fingers have chipped in three days for the mani. For the pedi ,my two large toes were chipped and they were also cut incrediblly short which i did not want. disappointed in this place, my mani's always last for atleast two weeks for gel and my pedicures can go for a month. read more

I visited this establishment prior to me going on vacation. They promoted an online special for acrylic nails. It was convenient because the location is close to my residence. I was very impressed when I walked in. The ambience was beautiful. However, I was surprised to see that I was the only customer there. The staff was friendly, and the owner let me know who would be doing my nails. There were two younger girls working at that time. I was switched back and forth between them. (One did my prep, and the other applied acrylic). As the tech cleaned my cuticles, I kept getting pricked. The other tech who applied my acrylic took about an hour to do so and file. As I was looking at my nails, the acrylic was extremely bulky and some parts of my nails wasn't covered. I let the tech know I was not satisfied so far and she was very apologetic. She assured me that it would look better once she finished. There was tons of drilling, filing, and reapplying. After two hours I let her know that i appreciate her trying but the nails did not look good at all. The owner walked in passing numerous times and I let her know I wasn't pleased as well. The owner was extremely nonchalant, and it didn't seem like she cared at all. She was joking with the other techs and asked them what they wanted for takeout. At that point, I asked again for the nails to be soaked off. The owner said she would soak them off so the other tech can eat. This was very unprofessional. There was never an apology from her or any offer to fix the issue. This was extremely disappointing and they could've had a long time customer. It seems as if the younger techs were in training, and would apply their practice to anyone who comes in for the special. Reading the other reviews show that it didn't only happen to myself. I moved to Staten Island from Brooklyn this year and have been looking for a nail salon that is up to par with my nail salon in Brooklyn. Anyone I asked said they go to tomato nails so I tried them out. Huge mistake. Their products are cheap and caused me to have an allergic reaction. I found LaRu through instagram and I have finally found the nail salon for me! I made an appointment online and there was no wait when I arrived. The owner was extremely helpful in helping me pick which service suited my need. The environment is very laid back and chill. The decor is beautiful. I was also offered a refreshment which i thought was a nice touch. Its definitely on the more expensive side (only in comparison to other salons on the Island$ but I am used to it and prefer to pay a higher price for the service I received.
