donuts and coffee on a table
    Sunny C.

This is still my favorite Colombian Bakery. Experience:I started coming here 3 years ago. My boyfriend brought me here on my birthday. This year, we celebrated it by going to Las Americas for breakfast again. I'm updating the review because I had a very bad experience here today. The business allowed someone to come in and sing. I understand that this is typical Jackson Heights culture, but I really did not like being picked on. The man who decided to come in and sing pointed me out (as if I weren't already sticking out like a sore thumb being the only Asian person in a room full of Hispanic people). He said, "For you, I sing this in English". I was already having a bad morning with one of the cashiers side-eyeing me and one of the tables of ladies looking at me like I wasn't welcome because I look different. I think that if businesses allow people to come in and sell things or sing, it shouldn't be people that make your patrons uncomfortable. Allow people that are respectful of your business and your patrons. I'd say i've been here upwards of 15 times in the past 3 years, and this is the first unpleasant experience i've had here where I felt extremely unwelcome. Your pan de queso, empanadas, arepas de choclo, and coffee from here will always be my favorites. Not to mention, Las Americas Bakery has my father's favorite buñuelos. I've gone to many other bakeries, but no other bakery makes such great tasting bread. Free street parking is available in the blocks around this area, but there is paid metered parking right on this block. Recommend it?: Yes...this place has really great food, however, I think it needs to work on being more accepting of other cultures. I bring my friends here and they love the food, but it doesn't feel welcoming here when I'm not with my boyfriend who speaks Spanish. All of the signage in the bathroom is also only in Spanish. I travel 20 miles for this place because of the quality of the food. Please don't ruin the experience with the service.

I have a certain fondness for Colombian bakeries, what?? I grew up in a Hispanic neighborhood and my best friend is half Colombian and half Ecuadorian. We have have been friends the last 28 years, so I have very fond memories of when we used to come here as kids. And don't expect much in terms of decor, it's more of a quick snack or order to go place. The food: Pan de Queso- not to be confused with Pan con Queso, which is bread with a slice of cheese in the middle. Pan de Queso translates to bread from cheese, I guess. It's a doughnut shaped piece of bread that has cheese blended inside the dough, when you eat it, it doesn't scream cheese. It's a very subtle taste, but the texture of the bread is the most important thing to me about this bread. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=2CF4NCKr0BmFrz_lx0B5Bw&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Emapanada de Carne- It's a fried beef emapanda. It's fried corn dough with ground beef and potatoes inside. I think the one made here is good, the inside is a little greasy but the outside is crisp and tender. Their hot sauce is a nice addition. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=xM7ERIKZePE00RO44A9lJg&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Empanada de Queso- I don't know why I love this so much. It's literally no work involved in making this, it's queso blanco and dough. It's two ingredients really, but the texture of the fried dough and salty and creaminess from the queso blanco pair well together. Almojabana- This is another Colombian bread that has cheese in it as well, not really sure how it's different from Pan de Queso. Besides the shape, the inside taste kinda similar. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=WQFbOQA-qPheso5s7kxKsA&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=hP9n2eIvHpZyr_Irc5MQjQ&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA

Chicken empanadas and pastry with my fruit salad

I got lost walking to Raychel's place after making my way from JFK via the AirTrain (try that...super cool for $5.) Stumbled across this bakery and got myself some chicken empanadas, fruit salad and delicious pastry for breakfast. Not a place to eat in with much comfort...mainly a take out spot. Staff were friendly and didn't hold back on the salsa and stuff for take-out.

There was a tray of Tee-Doy decided not to buy any of them because they were all hard. Got 2 of the fish sandwiches and 2 of the chicken sandwiches. The prices for both sandwiches and bun have jumped up since January. I stopped here to get items for family and relatives/friends. Not impressed with their chicken sandwiches for they were hard and there is tendon in one other chicken sandwich has area that was not edible. The quality definitely not what it use to be here. There were lots of seats and tables for patrons to sit. Notice less foot traffic at this store.

I decided to try their Coconut Pandan cake which was enjoyable except for the jelly they had in the middle. The cake itself was pretty moist and the cream had a nice Pandan flavor. The Portuguese egg tart is what you would expect from one of these bakery's, very basic but it was nice and flaky. The milk tea was also okay, we asked for less sugar so it was not too sweet. We also got the sesame mochi to go and this was delicious! Definitely the best thing I bought from this bakery. The sesame paste was nice and strong but not too gritty and the mochi was super soft. I have to go back to grab another when I get the chance!

We came by the day before Mother's Day, so they had pre decorated Mother's Day cakes. You can also place an order. Service is quick and friendly. We initially planned on getting a Strawberry Shortcake, as that seemed to be the cake to get. However, we opted for the Cheesecake, because we were able to add fresh strawberries (and whipped cream) on top! I'm not a fan of whipped cream, so I avoided that, but everyone seemed to enjoy. It had a good creamy texture and was not too sweet. The strawberries were indeed fresh. The pound cake was soft and airy. The vanilla flavor comes through. I will have to try the Marbled version next time! Note: Cash Only! A regular customer ordered the tiramisu cake; said it was the best cake ever, so will have to try that next time!

A friend recommended it to me, and I've already ordered two birthday cakes from here. The tiramisu cake was absolutely delicious, honestly one of the best I've ever had. I didn't even know you could customize a tiramisu cake since it's usually served the traditional way, but they made it exactly how I wanted. As someone who loves tiramisu, this really stood out. I also ordered a strawberry shortcake, and it was just as impressive. The buttercream was so good , light, flavorful, and not overly sweet. Everyone loved it, and there wasn't a single slice left. The owner's son (I believe) was super helpful, he really takes the time to understand what you want and brings it to life perfectly. I've also tried their croissants, which are huge and delicious, and the hero bread is excellent too. Just a heads-up: they only accept cash.I'll definitely be ordering all my cakes from here moving forward!
