When I don't know what to eat for breakfast, this is my go to spot when it comes to Colombian bread, corn arepas, empanadas and pastries. This business has been open since I was a baby and I've never had an issue with their food except maybe once when they refused to microwave an Arepa for me lol. Overall, the ambience is usually packed in the mornings, but gets pretty empty in the afternoons. It's a lot of people that speak Spanish and all the cashiers are efficient/quick in my opinion. This is still my favorite Colombian Bakery. Experience:I started coming here 3 years ago. My boyfriend brought me here on my birthday. This year, we celebrated it by going to Las Americas for breakfast again. I'm updating the review because I had a very bad experience here today. The business allowed someone to come in and sing. I understand that this is typical Jackson Heights culture, but I really did not like being picked on. The man who decided to come in and sing pointed me out (as if I weren't already sticking out like a sore thumb being the only Asian person in a room full of Hispanic people). He said, "For you, I sing this in English". I was already having a bad morning with one of the cashiers side-eyeing me and one of the tables of ladies looking at me like I wasn't welcome because I look different. I think that if businesses allow people to come in and sell things or sing, it shouldn't be people that make your patrons uncomfortable. Allow people that are respectful of your business and your patrons. I'd say i've been here upwards of 15 times in the past 3 years, and this is the first unpleasant experience i've had here where I felt extremely unwelcome. Your pan de queso, empanadas, arepas de choclo, and coffee from here will always be my favorites. Not to mention, Las Americas Bakery has my father's favorite buñuelos. I've gone to many other bakeries, but no other bakery makes such great tasting bread. Free street parking is available in the blocks around this area, but there is paid metered parking right on this block. Recommend it?: Yes...this place has really great food, however, I think it needs to work on being more accepting of other cultures. I bring my friends here and they love the food, but it doesn't feel welcoming here when I'm not with my boyfriend who speaks Spanish. All of the signage in the bathroom is also only in Spanish. I have a certain fondness for Colombian bakeries, what?? I grew up in a Hispanic neighborhood and my best friend is half Colombian and half Ecuadorian. We have have been friends the last 28 years, so I have very fond memories of when we used to come here as kids. And don't expect much in terms of decor, it's more of a quick snack or order to go place. The food: Pan de Queso- not to be confused with Pan con Queso, which is bread with a slice of cheese in the middle. Pan de Queso translates to bread from cheese, I guess. It's a doughnut shaped piece of bread that has cheese blended inside the dough, when you eat it, it doesn't scream cheese. I got lost walking to Raychel's place after making my way from JFK via the AirTrain (try that...super cool for $5.) Stumbled across this bakery and got myself some chicken empanadas, fruit salad and delicious pastry for breakfast. Not a place to eat in with much comfort...mainly a take out spot. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I walk here every day to get coffee and every day I get the same bad attitude from two ladies. The brunette and blonde make it their business to give you attitude if you're not a man. Always flirting with the guys and then they see you, a female, they roll their eyes. I went to get coffee today, asked for black with one sugar. Walked back home to find milk in my coffee. Walked back and asked nicely for another one and also decided to get a croissant since I was there anyway. Got the worst attitude from the brunette. She didn't say sorry, rolled her eyes at me, talked about me to the blonde like I wasn't there and took someone else's order before I could say anything else. I will never go back here again. My Dominican family cannot have a family function without a loaf of there awesome pan con queso. I always sneak myself a pan de queso, it's donut shape always intrigued me as a kid, and the flavor, although not donut like as I thought as a kid LOL; is addictive. I normally stop by for coffee, in this case I was craving an iced coffee which they blend and their empanadas which are hit or miss. On weekdays there tends to be two ladies in the morning that are very welcoming, today was not the case. Was walking to move my car from meter and as soon as I go in there are 3 customers before me. I assumed the line was at te end of the counter and one lady says rudely "thats not where the line starts wait for your turn". Without even mentioning where to even stand or wait. She continues by mumbling "Im going to lecture customers all day if they dont listen". Like what kind of customer service is this? Lacking respect and professionalism. With people hearing I was tempted to respond and put her in shame but as a Restaurant/Cafe Manager and educated being I chose to leave the space. There are so many other bakeries nearby where customers are greeted and can get their morning treat. Lost a customer today. First impressions can be the last. Wont even bother coming back, breads are minimal in options and coffee is always hit or miss, to say the least service as well. read more

My family has been going to this bakery for the past 25 years. Why?...If you miss the foods and breads of the mother country--Colombia..this is as close as it gets. Their food is delicious, to say nothing of the memories it evokes. For Thanksgiving and X'mas we always place huge orders and so while we wait we have cafe con leche with chorizon, papa salada and arepa, mmmm good! Definitely recommend. read more
