The garlic cream sauce is addicting and tasty, plus the fish is always fresh and succulent. I also love the avocado & cilantro salsa. I REALLY wanted to like this place, but there's no flavor in anything we ate or drank. We ordered 2 different burritos, chips & salsa, horchata, and agua fresca pina. I ate just enough so that I wasn't starving and left the rest. The other thing is that we waited 1 hour for 2 burritos. While there are 7-8 tables of people, I don't know why it takes 1 hour. In my opinion, Las Cababas is a 3.5 star establishment. So I round up to 4. We came in around noon on a Friday, ordered, Huevos Rancheros Plate, 2 Asada Tacos Plate, and the Baja Fish Burrito and took about 30 mins for the food to be ready. They were busy but everyone that was sitting down already has their food on the table. Huevos Rancheros Plate is good with good flavor, but the black beans had no flavors what so ever. 2 Asada Tacos Plate with extra Rice was good, the steak was tender, but again lack flavor and the rice was good. Baja Fish Burrito, you get an option of getting grilled or fried fish, I took the grilled because I figured it would have been seasoned well, I was wrong, again no flavors and same for the black beans. Literally love this taqueria! They got tons of options. But if you aren't getting the fried Baja Fish taco here you are missing out. You can have the option to have it grilled or fried. Both are good but its soo good fried. The steak fries are pretty yummy i love how they have a big portion and all the ingredients are really fresh. The chorizo breakfast burrito was perfectly packed to me and it was delicious. The only downside is their tortilla chips taste stale. I miss the freshly fried chips. The cashier was nice and my food came out at a reasonable time. There is plenty of seating with tvs around and i love the art work and vibe inside. I just got churros from the truck at College and Haste. They are excellent. They are NOT premade and hardening under a heat lamp. They are made and piped with a dulce sauce with a side of even more awesome sauce. They made me happy the whole time I ate them. Nothing else mattered. I wish I hadn't eaten dinner before. We came based on reviews and was not satisfied. The food was previously cooked and then reheated in the microwave. You can hear the microwave door and beep often. I've had burritos from here before and never thought they were anything special. This time, though, I got tacos. Very good decision! I got 2 pastor tacos and 1 carne asada. Both were excellent and paired very well with their salsa. Carne asada was cooked and cut perfectly, and tasted much better than when I had it in burritos in the past. Al pastor is very authentic and tastes better than most you can find in the area. Generous amount of onions (and some pineapple for the pastor). I really really enjoyed this, and I'm happy to have this option here in my neighborhood. Only negative is that their tortillas seem to collapse under the general sauciness. I usually prefer to have my salsa on the side, so maybe that's on me. Came out to about $15 for the three tacos which is pretty pricey. However, you do get some chips and salsa for free, and the quality of the food is pretty high. I'm reasonably happy to pay this price to support a nice establishment in my community. The place is clean and recently renovated, with a fairly friendly staff willing to accommodate customizations and requests. I will probably start coming here a lot more regularly after this most recent visit! read more

So ordering online was a little weird. I couldn't order singular regular tacos and as the only option was 4 regular tacos. I also couldn't get the free Baja taco they had on the website because there was no option to add it to the order. I didn't mind getting 4 tacos but I wasn't sure if I could split the meats up. In the end, I just added in the comments 2 tripe and 2 cabeza and that worked. Both of the tacos were amazing and had a ton of flavor. The cabeza tacos though were so tender. The meat was fatty and literally melted in your mouth. The salsas that came with them just enhanced the tacos. The burrito was heavy, filling and well worth it. Chips were also included, but I don't know what they came with. It's decently big inside with about 20-30 seats and you order at the counter. Staff is nice but I don't think the cashier understood what I was talking about when I was talking about the online stuff. Parking is terrible, there is no dedicated lot and it's just street parking if you can find some. Overall the food was amazing but ordering online was a little confusing since some options aren't available. Personally loveddd their chips, were a bit thicker and I could tell they were fried fresh. The burritos were totally the highlight here. Usually I don't feel the need to comment about tortillas, but these were so good and the fajita burrito had grill marks which I loved. Carbs asada was great, bit mixed on the pollo asado... texture was a bit rubbery and the flavor was almost Asian. Not in a bad way, just a flavor profile I'm not used to in Mexican food! We also ordered two salads as a lighter option, and they were just okay. It was kind of dead when we came, it made my sister question why I chose this place. Then a huge rush of people came after us and it was so full that there was no seating. This place was popping and seemed to be the place to go for a late night munchies. You can order with the cashier or they have a kiosk to the side that helps the line move along. This was our first visit here. We had high expectations for it. Sadly, parking was a nightmare. We circled around for about 15 minutes until we figured "let's just park in the Trader Joe's parking garage" (which is not permitted). Anyways, friendly staff. But for the price, I have to say the food was mediocre. I ordered two shrimp tacos ($8/ea). And I counted only 4 little shrimps on my taco. The rest of the taco was loaded the veggies as pictured in my photos. More vegetables than shrimp which is highly disappointing for the price. My boyfriend ordered the quesabirria combo & he liked it, but again way overpriced. Not to forget-- you get a small little boat of chips when you order at the counter. They were stale! In my opinion the food is good here. In fact, it's delicious. My friend and I both agreed on that. We thought it was authentic too. They have a salsa bar so you can load up on fresh salsa, which is always a great thing. Employees were also nice, so overall it's a very good place. What we didn't like was the music. Wow, this is a Mexican place, so what's up with that canned, synthesized music? It wasn't anything to do with Mexico as far as i could hear. I wonder if that hurts their business. I've never been to Chiapas where the owners originate. It's a Mexican province right on the Guatemalan border, and a trip there probably won't be soon. Hell, I haven't been to this spot which is in that little shopping center at MLK Way and Berkeley Way. However, I should because it looked pretty inviting when I've walked by. This is probably the best Mexican restaurant I've been to in Berkeley. It is across the street from the Trader Joe's near Downtown so it is a bit of a walk from the campus. The restaurant itself is quite spacious and very clean (the bathroom is quite high tech I must say). The staff members are very friendly. You have to order in front and then they'll give you a number and you pick a table. I think their chorizo and carne asada are their best meats. I also really enjoyed their Baja fish tacos. Things we liked: - They are open late. - Their carnitas is (are?) excellent -- tasty and generally good portions. - We've been happy with the tacos, and the burritos are decent. - The salsa bar Things we didn't like: - Our chimichanga had too much cheese and not enough meat. - The taco salad was too small and not special in any way. - They were out of sopes the night we tried to order them. The service has been adequate but not noticeably good. Parking is free on the street nearby. Value is acceptable. We have not had the chance to order their fajita special, which might be a better deal (it basically means a complimentary agua fresca with your chicken or beef fajitas).
