My husband brought me here because he said they're known for their burritos, and since I was craving one, I figured I'd give it a try. Even though there was a bit of a line when we arrived, they took our order pretty quickly, which I appreciated because I came in starving. When the food came out, I'd describe the burrito as top-tier drunk food in the best way possible. The meat and cheese melted together perfectly, and the tortilla was soft and fresh -- definitely something I look for in a burrito. My husband ordered the vegan nachos and said they were really good too. According to him, they were "cheesy to the tea." The service here honestly stood out the most to me. I had ordered a drink and completely forgot about it at the front. When our food came out, one of the staff members noticed and brought it over to me, saying, "Hey, you forgot your drink." I had to laugh because I genuinely forgot all about it from being so hungry. Small gesture, but I really appreciated not having to get back up and grab it myself. In this eatery just off UC Berkeley campus, the service was efficient and all utensils were easily accessible for customers. The dining tables were clean and the dining area overall has ample room to move around within a small space. This eatery also provided a decent variety of different salsas for self-serve. My disappointment concerned the quality of my lengua burrito for the price charged. For $15.49, the flour tortilla itself was basic and the burrito fillings tasted bland. Dont cha hate when you tell someone the food somewhere is delicious and you take them on, what you hope is, an off day. The rice was delicious, beans were good, cheese was on point. POST HIGH SCHOOL REUNION LATE NIGHT MEAL Last Saturday night was my high school reunion, which was at Berkeley. The reunion ended at midnight. I enjoyed the dinner for the reunion, but I knew I would be hungry. After the reunion my fellow high school/ college friend and I went to our old stomping grounds at Cal to Telegraph Avenue. He decided to go to Blondie's Pizza; I went to Top Dog. However the line at Top Dog past 1:00 AM was still long. I decided to go to the eatery next door, which was La Burrita. It was a place when I was a student I would eat at times after Cal Football games. I didn't want to order any burrito I've had at other Mexican eateries. I ordered the lengua burrito. Also I ordered the horchata. The lengua I ate at La Burrita isn't pasty or gamey as I've eaten at some Mexican eateries. The horchata was a beverage I needed after the numerous cocktails I drank during my high school reunion. The OG Mexican restaurant of Telegraph area. First time I had it was about 15 years ago, and on a positive note-- the food is still good! My recent meals include the Wet burrito, the California burrito, and the Super burrito, and my "go to" back in the day was the Philly burrito. I would advise to try something more adventurous than the standard or super burrito if you're going here for a burrito. The California Burrito is excellent, and the Wet burrito was a VERY satisfying meal on a rainy day. I can't speak for the Philly in recency, but it was my post drinking meal when times called for it. You're not getting the most modern trendy food here, but it's solid and filling. It's not overly seasoned like some Mexican places, in other words-- I haven't felt the effects of a "sodium bomb" the day after eating. It's good honest Mexican food and it's not trying to be anything flashy. The indoor seating is limited, but it has a cozy old style atmosphere that's harder to come by nowadays. I've been here a couple of times and I really enjoy their veggie burrito #21 and their agua de piña (pineapple juice). They provide chips and salsas. Park far away and walk here, as parking gets rough at night. The carne asada fries are good once in a while, but it is super greasy, so it feels unhealthy to eat. The fries are cooked very well, the cheese is overloaded, and the sauce is great. There is no cilantro, pico de Gallo, or onions on the fries so it does get soggy with no crunch. Ate here recently, after not having it for a couple of decades since my college days. I think this is still pretty solid, the service was friendly and the quality was good. My go to back in the day, probably a few times a week (thank the teenage/early 20s metabolism) was the ground-beef special burrito, it was always the exact opposite of dry and I would grab at least 3 mild salsa containers with it. I think at some point I "graduated" to the chicken super/special burrito - the OG ground beef still has a special place in my heart as not many Mexican places have that filling. read more

La Burrita is my go to place for nachos in Berkeley. The workers are always very kind and are fast with your order. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so if you plan on dining in keep that in mind. They are usually busy during lunch hour with construction workers and in the evenings with students. Like I said, this is my go to place for nachos. I have tried a wet burrito once from here and did not like it, so I stick to what they do well: nachos. The nachos are PACKED and they are t skimpy with the cheese! Their tortilla chips are super thin and crispy which I love. The pico always tastes fresh and the guac is flavorful. They have a self serve salsa station. My go-to is the green salsa. It's not very spicy, which I love! I usually order through snackpass which lists that regular nachos come with pico and jalapeños. Im not sure if this is a mistake but they never add those toppings and I always have to ask for them. Sour cream and guac are extra. I usually add my own sour cream at home for this reason. This is my favorite burrito in the world. Let me start by saying that I try to travel all over the Mexican world--there is no other name for this geographical region, that spans from East Texas to Northern California to Chiapas. New Spain? I have favorite food items and restaurants in amazing meccas like Mexico City, Santa Fe, Los Angeles, Sonoma. While La Burrita is casual in ambience, the food is stellar. The boiled chicken wins (Take that, Claude Levi-Strauss!). Moist and almost earthy in flavor, it pairs perfectly with the plum pinto beans and the pillowy tortilla (you may need to read my other posts, which are beginning to spell out a burrito typology). But the jalapeno salsa is simply the best I have ever had, rivaled by a mole I once consumed in Oaxaca City. Tart and spicy, the salsa acts as the perfect counterpoint to the warm and welcoming home flavors of the wrap. Other things I like about this place are the ability for the customer to order different sizes of burrito with different levels of decadence and different prices. This is my 30th anniversary of visiting La Burrita...and some of the employees have been working there as long as I have been eating there. WHEN: monday 5/23/22 @ 12pm PARKING: the parking situation is tough here. there's only street parking but the spaces are very limited because of its proximity to Asian Ghetto. lots of cars end up double parking on both sides of the street I've heard a lot of good things about La Burrita. They're a classic, fast casual mexican spot with burritos, plates, and tacos. The inside is small but they have a good number of tables (mainly 2 seaters) available. I finally got the chance to try them out when I came to campus to study and realized I forgot to bring my packed lunch. They're on Snackpass with 20% off your first order so I ordered the La Burrita Special and the food was ready in less than 5 minutes! What I got: 1. La Burrita Special with Carne Asada ($11.59) - I love that all orders come with tortilla chips, even if you order togo. The burrito is huge. It's the length of my forearm and hefty af. There's a good ratio of each filling and I appreciate that no single bite was filled with just rice or just beans. The sour cream and guacamole create wasn't overpowering and the carne asada was tender and flavorful. Unfortunately it didn't come with any salsa :( I think this is a great spot for Berkeley students. It's not too expensive, the portions are big, and the service is super fast. Sooooooooooooo good. I am working in UCB for the week and have already come here twice. I had a California burrito last time - so filling I couldn't finish it. And today I had two veggie tacos (very decently priced) which were also super filling and flavorful. Everything comes with some fresh chips! The real reason why I've come back is because of the salsa bar... holy moly guacamole I could literally drink that red salsa it's so good. I love that you can get as much as you want and they have little to go cups for them too. Nice people, and nice interior! It is the most Americanized burrito you could possibly concoct - complete with sour cream and guacamole. I don't even like sour cream in general, but come in burrito form at La Burrita, it's exactly what I want. It's safe to say that La Burrita still does it for me - it was exactly how I remembered it and one bite sent me down memory. The taste was specific and unique. When it comes to a shrimp burrito it tastes different than your average beef or chicken burrito. The shrimp gives it a very fishy or oceans taste. It's very unique, the shrimp burrito also has onions and bell peppers, therefore giving it W very shrimp fajitas taste. The sour cream and cheese give it another level taste ins good way. The chips were very fresh and crispy and did a very well job with scooping a little burrito filling. There's not much seating area but it can get the job done to give you nice taste and authenticity. I know it's hard to find Mexican food around the UC Berkeley campus but this an come very close to it. Compared to Other Mexican restaurants in the area this does pretty well. I love the la burrita on the north side of campus for their burritos, but I've yet to order that at this location. What I like here are the California tacos, which are stuffed with meat, cheese, and fries. One is enough to fill you up, especially since they give you a side of chips and salsa with each order. I'm in disbelief that despite the number of times I've gotten it, I can't seem to find a picture! And it's so affordable! During the pandemic, I appreciate their quick, made-to-order service. As a former broke college student at Berkeley, La Burrita was my go-to place for Mexican food. (Yes, I know that the Taco Bell next door has cheaper options, but no thank you). There are other Mexican food options around the area (might be better), but La Burrita is a quick fix for your meals between classes. Also really good for drunchies! I always order their California burrito! I do prefer the La Burrita in NorthSide (convenient for students with classes in that area) because you have access to their unlimited chips and salsa. Northside also has more in-door dining option because it has a larger space. I recently went here when I visited Berkeley just for nostalgia, and yup, I did only like it because it brought back memories. The service for both location is quick and reliable and the cashiers are really nice. read more
