Great tapas and solid service. There's decent street parking around the area even on a Saturday around 1:30pm, and they've got TVs inside showing the World Cup. Water was refilled promptly, food came out fairly quickly, and staff were around whenever we needed more drinks or food. The tapas were great with a few standouts: pulpo, croquetas, bimi (broccolini), calamares, and patatas bravas. All had rich flavors and paired well with the provided sauces. We also got three paellas (valenciana, tres cerditos, and paella mixta). They were good but not my favorite. Texture was on the softer side and I prefer mine crispier. Good variety of proteins across the three though, so worth ordering a mix. Sweets were good but not amazing. I'd probably just get the cinnamon roll next time. I prefer churros with a crispy exterior and soft center, these were crispy pretty much all the way through, not really my style. Brunch menu looks worth a try with some creative options. It has been a very long time since I wrote a review, but my experience at La Marcha was so bad that I had to write something. First, the host is an older gentleman, and it took a few minutes to be seated even with a reservation. My husband and I ordered cocktails, 2 tapas, and the vegetarian paella. The paella requires 30-45 min to cook. This becomes important to the story later. We received the tapas before our cocktails arrived. When the cocktails finally arrived, the server almost gave them to the table next to us. I had to flag her attention that those were for me. This was the same server who took our order...?!?! So that was weird. We were done with the tapas and the cocktails. Our server asked if we wanted something more to drink, so we decided to get a bottle of red wine. The server poured our wine, spilled a big drip across our table, wiped off the bottle, but didn't bother to wipe the table! There was a group of 4 people next to us, and they were seated about 15 min after us. But they received a paella really fast. So my husband and I were dismayed because the server probably gave our food to the wrong table. So, we drank our wine and waited for someone to come and speak to us. We expected some kind of acknowledgement that our order was going to be slow. Waited. And waited. Then the table next to us received the paella that they actually ordered (with seafood). And we kept waiting. The server apologized to THEM about bringing them the wrong paella at first, but no apology or explanation to us! At this point, I'm staring at the server, trying to get her attention, getting pretty angry. My husband is a good person, so he's making jokes and making me laugh. He points out a small dog sitting on a chair inside the restaurant. Definitely not a service animal. At this point, I'm so aggrieved and laugh that I'm going to report a health code violation. The server finally comes to us and apologizes for the mix-up, it will be 45 more min for our paella. She tries to compensate by giving us 2 glasses of cava. But like... I'm starving and tipsy. I ask my husband if I should get a corn dog at Foster's Freeze while we wait for paella... Finally, the food arrives. The paella is good but not excellent. My husband makes paella at home that's better than this. He lived in Spain for a while, so he knows and uses a bunch of saffron. La Marcha's paella just tasted like rice with tomatoes and veggies, no saffron flavor or color. We ate the paella, ordered dessert. When the tab came, they didn't give us any kind of discount. The dinner took 2.5 hours! So I am normally a good tipper, but this time, I only tipped 10% and wrote a long note about our disappointment. I figured the other $25 that I would give to the server was going to pay for the babysitter for the extra hour that it took for us to eat dinner. tl;dr Food was good but not excellent. I was excited to try this highly rated tapas restaurant in Berkeley. We ordered a few tapas, along with a sangria and their gintonica. We decided to save the paella for next time since it requires a 30-45 minute wait. First off, the sangria was sweet, but not overly sweet, and very refreshing. The gintonica, however, tasted a bit watered down, so I'd probably pass on that next time. As for the food, it was a bit hit-or-miss. We ordered the calamari, which came with a tasty squid ink dip. This was the largest tapas dish of the evening and definitely shareable between two to four people. The octopus was beautifully presented, but it lacked flavor and was not as tender as I had hoped. The beef cheek, on the other hand, was wonderfully tender and flavorful. I actually wish this had been one of the larger dishes because it was easily one of the highlights of the meal. Unfortunately, the crab croquette was far too salty. Not just slightly salty, but so salty that we could not finish it. It also did not have any visible crab inside, nor did it really taste like crab. Overall, I would still come back to try the paella after seeing it pass by on other tables. We loved the concept that every cocktail comes with an amuse-bouche style tapa of your choice since it lets you sample different dishes before committing to more. The mushroom croquettes were flavorful, though the mojo verde could've used a little more acidity. The patatas bravas/aoli were perfectly crispy outside and soft inside with great sauces. We also enjoyed the shrimp and onion fritter (buñuelos) and the lamb sliders (hamburguesa), where the mint paired really nicely with the richness of the lamb. The broccolini (bimi) was the only miss for us. It needed a bit more time on the grill and some salt since it came across bland. Service was good and balanced. Great service. Came on a weekend morning, not too packed but it was filling up quickly. The place is intimate but not so small--more than a handful of tables and then bar seating. Bathrooms were clean. There is street parking around. Food - great. We tried the meat paella and was smaller than expected, as were the tapas. The pulpo and calamares were good, sure, but again small servings. I don't think the tapas stood out enough compared to other non-Spanish restaurants that serve the same dishes. Something about this just didn't hit as much as I would have liked. My friend and I came for the Berkeley restaurant week $25 lunch menu on a Friday noon. Not very busy, only one server. We ordered 4 tapas and 2 paellas to share. Food took SO LONG to come. Waited 30 minutes for the tapas and 45 minutes for paella. And the portions were SO SMALL. Like one croqueta? One pepper? Really? And the paella came in these tiny steel pans instead of the usual cast iron so the rice wasn't crispy. We ordered the veggie one for variety because it sounded good but don't get it. The Jose Andre's tapas bar in Washington DC was my favorite tapas bar, until now. La Marcha has been an Oakland mainstay for over 10 years and is now on my fave list every time I come here. Celebrated my son's birthday and we started w the Abondigas which were almost, but not quite, as good as my mothers' recipe. Juan, the server was indignant when I showed him my reservation on OpenTable and my credit card payment on my credit card app. He said he'd talk to the owner. Not the most welcoming first 15-minutes. Our whole table was like, WTF? Juan returned saying that we were good to go and that he had confused us with the party of 5 seated behind us. The server dampened the celebratory mood by mixing up our reservations. After that the finally served us. Despite that, we kept a positive mood. When paying. Juan did the straight up hover when we paid our drink tab and tip. That's just not worthy of a Michelin plate restaurant. They need to train their staff better. Truly felt like this was the place to be and felt like we were 'in the know' of where to go for the weekday celebrations and brink of weekend ahead :) A friend and I cozied up to the bar and ordered drinks with the attentive and friendly staff. I went with the house-made red sangria and for tapas bites we did: hamburguesas morunas (lamb sliders), piquillos rellenos (goat cheese stuffed peppers), and croquetas de jamón. Everything came super timely, was incredibly fresh and flavorful, and was a perfect experience for two to share a couple bites, sips, and stellar surrounding vibes. Wonderful place that I thought I'd already reviewed - so ok, time to write a review! Was here Fall, 2025, and previously in Summer of 2022. Had some of the same favorites and branched out too. TLDR: You really can't go wrong with anything you order here! Was blown away in 2022; in 2025, it was very good, but a bit less magic. Both times we tried the Arroz Negro (Squid Ink Paella), comprised with: squid ink, little clams, fennel sausage, oyster aioli, trout roe. Super tasty. Your lips will turn temporarily black. Note: the fennel sausage, of course, has fennel - and I'm a big fan of that. Not everyone loves it, though, so know your table. After enjoying it twice, it's time try another one the next time. We also really enjoyed Bruselas: brussels sprouts, grapes, balsamic-pedro ximénez. Glazed and crispy and just the right amount of crunch. The croquetas are delicious, but they may be out of one or two. The dessert - well, definitely try the churros - perfectly crisp and sweet, not greasy, and ohh that chocolate! The wine selection the last time was less than the best. Of the white wines available, there was only a sweet (not quite moscato, though they also had a moscato I think). Reviews are all over the board on this spot. No denying, the food is really good! We sat at the bar, and no issue with service. Also, it was hopping on a Thursday night... so fun! The atmosphere was so great, so much energy. We only ordered 2 drinks and 3 tapas and it was $100. Ouch. It's pricey and portions are small, but the food truly was tasty. The lamb sliders were great and the jamon and cheese croquetas were tasty bites. The goat cheese stuffed peppers were nice little morsels, but tiny. Drinkwise, The Aperol Spritz and sangria were good, but I've had bigger pours of both in my day. Again, food was really good, vibes on top, and a good time for a light bite and drink. I would not recommend the potatoes as it's literally just potatoes and hot sauce. The scallops are amazing as well. The place is cute and gives people enough privacy to talk. Unbelievable. We strolled in at around 1:30PM when the place was virtually empty. Emilio behind the bar was pouring what appeared to be sangria into bottles. When we asked if we could sit at the bar, which was empty, he said that that "would not be convenient because he would be prepping things for dinner behind the bar." When we asked if we could sit at the last two barstools far away from him, he refused to respond. But he told the server woman next him that we would be sitting at the bar. When we were done looking at the menu and asked him if we could order a few drinks, he would not make eye contact or respond. After about five minutes, I got up and asked him if he had heard me ask him about getting a few drinks before ordering food. He would not make eye contact but said that he was busy. He still refused to make eye contact or say anything. Surreal as customer service goes. We are easy-going people who spend a lot of money at restaurants and have wonderful relationships with good quality server people all around town. I was so excited to try La Marcha Tapas Bar recently! This place has been on my list for the past year. My boyfriend and I arrived a little early for our reservation and luckily they were able to accommodate us. They were very busy on a Saturday evening with all tables and the bar completely full. Their dinner menu includes a wide variety of tapas, salads and paellas as well as cocktails, beer and wine. For tapas, we ordered the coca which included focaccia, cream, t'faya, pears, walnuts, manchego, jamon as well as the patatas aioli. Both were very tasty. For our main entree, we split the paella marinera, which came with mussels, clams, shrimp, calamari, and peas. This was a tasty dish and big enough for two people plus we had leftovers. I was missing a bit of the crunch on the rice, which is what I am use to with paella but it was still very delicious. Our server was very attentive throughout our visit and checked on us several times. I highly recommend stopping in here (with a reservation of course) when in the Berkeley area. They are Michelin recognized for a reason and offer great spanish cuisine. read more

My friends and I made a brunch reservation for 5 people for a Saturday morning and didn't have much trouble securing a table. The menu is full of innovative Spanish dishes, both sweet and savory. The food we chose was delicious. We got the Benedicto real, which was incredible! The potatoes were perfectly crispy, the sauce was yummy, the poached eggs were runny, and the rest of the toast was flavorful. We also ordered a Bocadillo, which was much larger than anticipated, and it also came with perfectly crispy potatoes. Lastly, we got torrijas, a French toast loaded with fruit and some kind of a whipped cream with tarragon. Really really tasty! I love coming to La Marcha. This is still one of my favorite restaurants in Berkeley. Consistently good food. Good drinks. Beautiful atmosphere. And always good service. Their paella is very flavorful. And quantity is actually enough for 4-5 people if you are sharing all the other tapas dishes you order. We usually order a paella plus 2 tapas per person and the quantity is about right for us. I recommend this place for happy hour with a small group of friends or a nice romantic date or just whenever you are craving Spanish tapas. This place is decent but I think there are better places for tapas in the Bay Area. I've been a few times recently. Most of the time, the service has been fine. We walked in last night around 9:45 for a post concert snack. We had seen they were one of the only places on a Sunday night open late and they even advertised a late night happy hour. Even though the restaurant did have other parties and people came in after us, it felt like the staff was ready to go home. They also didn't clearly explain the happy hour (or explain it at all) so we weren't able to fully take advantage. My boyfriend and I came to La Marcha for a nice date night dinner. I came very excited, because I realized just before our reservation that La Marcha was Michelin-recognized around 2016-2017. While we came 15 minutes earlier than our reservation time, our host led us promptly to our table. The first happy hour here is from 4-6 PM, so we were able to add a few happy hour items to our menu. (Tip: as of this review writing, an alcoholic bev order from the happy hour menu gives you a complimentary HH tapas of your choice!) The two of us shared a sangria, albondigas, Brussels sprouts, octopus (pulpo), and a paella marinera (classic seafood paella). While I was a little worried we would not have enough food, we actually ordered plenty, with lots of paella leftover for us to take hom. All in all, the dishes were very good! Everything we ordered was flavorful and cooked perfectly. My boyfriend commented that the octopus surprised him (in a good way!) Cooked just right, to where the meat melted in our mouths. Teleferic (another tapas restaurant I enjoy with locations in Berkeley and Palo Alto) is another one of my favorites, and I found the food here to be comparable to Teleferic's. I went in for brunch. I had a long wait at the host stand and it wasn't because there was a line. There was just no one there. I had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was overcooked and had a weird flavor. Someone how it skewed Indian? The churro waffle was delicious. The syrup was too oily and then the butter on top congealed a few minutes into the meal. My friend said the sangria was good but the sent out a burnt biscuit and tried to cover it with sauce. It looked and felt like a hockey puck. It was replaced after the waitress stared at my friend for almost a minute when she was told it was burnt. It was hard to get her attention as she was on her phone most of the time we were there. I don't think I would go back. I'm on the hunt for a good brunch spot and this was not it. read more

10/10 experience; I became familiar with La Marcha through their catering services (which also did an amazing job) and wanted to bring my girlfriend to experience the restaurant. My second time here, the first I had some great almond flour pancakes and was impressed by all the Paella offerings. Second time had the pulled chicken spicy sandwich which was outstanding, super flavorful and filling. The Sangria was as I remembered it from Spain, rich in flavor with a tang to the wine. On the first visit , I was served by the owner and his son, and they were friendly and warm. The restaurant has a nice wooden bar with a black ham on the wall and artistic decorations with an artistic vibe. I love this place! The food is authentic and not pretentious. It's a favorite to be revisited for Paella and Tapas. read more

Before coming here in person, we had ordered delivery. However, paella should not be delivered, because you'll be missing the delicious socarrat (crispy rice) that forms at the bottom of the pan. Coming in person, their paella did not disappoint. 4 stars instead of 5 though, because: - Ambience was terrible. It was incredibly hot (no AC, poorly ventilated), loud, and cramped. - Many items (including the paella) felt unnecessarily greasy and heavy. read more
