6.11.26: Always looking to try new places for Mexican food and Las Chavelas was on my list. Today we finally came in for late lunch, arriving right after 3p. We were greeted and immediately taken to a cute booth with beautiful scenery painted on the table and hand painted flowers on the back of the booths. It was nicely bright and a welcoming atmosphere. Our server, Billie, took our drink order, dropped off warm chips and 2 salsas: hot and mild, and gave us time to look over the menu. Both salsas were tasty and of course, I preferred the spicy one. Also it just hit better with the warm homemade tortilla chips. I went with my fav drink of Horchata and liked how they noted 1 refill. The horchata was ice cold and delicious--it didn't have that waxy taste like some horchatas I've had before. I ordered the #33 Spicy Shrimp with Rice and Beans and my roommate got the daily special of 1 Enchilada and 1 Taco with Rice and Beans and with a cup of chicken tortilla soup. My roommate LOVED the soup and said it was chunks of chicken vs shredded chicken. He really liked the flavor and plans to get it again. Our plates arrived super hot, which I'm a fan of--I'd rather wait for my food to cool down some vs your first bite being luke-warm. The shrimp wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be, and that's partially my fault because I should have asked about the spice level. I like and can handle a lot of heat lol. Nonetheless, the shrimp had great flavor and the guacamole was bright and fresh and so good. The hot corn tortillas with the HOT rice and beans just paired so well together. My roommate tends to get the same plate, just at different restaurants. He said his combo plate was a winner and really liked the season on the rice. They had $9.00 tacos The menudo tasted like it was old or from just the can? My chile relleno wasn't as fresh as what I'm used to. We had a sick kiddo this weekend while we were in town. All she wanted was a tamale with beans and rice. She has always loved Las Chavelas' Spanish rice the most. Even with her being sick she chowed down on her meal. Portions were very filling and my daughter and I had enough for left overs the next morning. The hot salsa and the carne asada burrito were the best. If you are getting it to go I suggest asking for the burrito sauce on the side so it doesn't get soggy. My friend and I went here Mexican food is my favorite! I'm always looking for a great Mexican food truck or restaurant! We had Pollo ala Crema it was good for the most part but luke warm not sure if it was done and sat before it was brought to us or not! The rice here was over cooked and quite bland. We also tried the Plato Mazatlan OMG I'm not sure where they get their fish but it was disgusting!!! My tummy gets a little queasy just thinking about how gross it tasted my friend also agreed we also tried the tamale in my opinion. It was very dry and lacking.Staff was pretty friendly here but the never asked if everything was ok with food when it was obviously not eaten! Really good American Mex. All your faves on the menu are here, along with some house specialties mixed in. Lordy, they give you a ton of food. Wifey's Fajita Mix was enough to feed 3 people, if you had enough tortillas. Flavors were spot on, too. Our waitress was a sweetie, and all the staff were smiling and friendly. While we love the traditional Mex fare that we find in Central WA, it's always nice to visit an all-things-for-everyone joint like this every now and then. First time coming in, we drove from spokane valley to come in which isn't far but also isn't down the street either. We are so cal natives, living in Spokane for almost 4 years and gave up on mexican cuisine a long time ago out here but ive been following this place on Instagram for a couple of years and finally decided to come try them. We came in at 230pm for the lunch special, which is $11.75 for a 2 item combo!! Like what that's amazing! The flavor holy cow, better than most places in California. We were seated immediately and brought chips and salsa with waters right away by our server, not sure of her name but she was very nice and helpful on suggesting what meat to choose on the combos. I got the crispy shredded beef taco and cheese enchilada combo, seriously the best shredded beef I've ever had! Can't believe it for this area either! The enchilada sauce was flavorful as well. This place has a so cal/mexican border flavor profile which is right up my alley! I am interested in trying their asada next time though. We also got a huckleberry margarita and a strawberry marg with chamoy and tajin on the rocks, definitely can taste the tequila but for $12 a drink thats what i expect so they also met that expectation and they were delicious! They also have ample seating as well and it was quiet in there when we dined in. We have decided to make this a regular monthly date spot, we haven't tried mexican food in eastern WA or W Idaho in 3 years because of numerous disappointments but this place hit the spot, keep up the awesome service and food. Finally!!! Authentic Mexican food!!! It took me awhile but thank goodness I finally stopped in today. I had the taco plate w/ 2 carne asada & 1 carnitas tacos. Wow! Wonderful local place. Food is solid and there's good attention to detail as well as fresh ingredients. Items are made to order and from scratch in many cases. Chips and salsa are awesome. Guacamole is on the mushy side, and flavors across the menu could be a lot punchier, but for the region it's what one would expect. Service is friendly and quick and the atmosphere is inviting, clean, and family friendly. The owner spends a great deal of time in the dining room touching tables which I always love. My family dined here on New Year's Eve and were pleasantly surprised! The place was quite busy, which is always nice to see. The chips and salsa were EXCELLENT! I love a limey fresh salsa, and this had all of that going on. The spicy salsa wasn't too spicy, and mixing the spicy and mild was perfect. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, though the carnitas were a bit on the dry side and the horchata wasn't my favorite (not as creamy as I would have liked). We came on a Sunday so they had Birria tacos as the special. They were so yummy! Great portion size with four tacos and the Birria was great. A little salty but super flavorful. Once you sit down they immediately bring a bowl of chips and some amazing salsa. The hot salsa packs some heat which I appreciate. The crispy beef tacos were great. Food's really good and the portions are generous. The prices Are a little bit High, but when you consider how big the portions are, They even out. The staff is always been very friendly, the owner is super awesome. Comes around and talks to you and asks how you're enjoying the food on regular basis. It's been there for a long time, and a little dated on the inside, but it's the food that you come there for. You get two types of salsa with your chips while you're waiting for your food. Both of those are great. They had some chip baskets there for a while that kind of give you the creeps, but they've gotten rid of those, and then the newer ones are fine. The kids bean and cheese burrito plate is enormous! My 4 year old couldn't dent it. I had the carnitas tacos which were good but just good. My mom has the lunch special taco and enchilada, the taco was soggy, meat needed flavor so bad and the enchilada was drowning in sauce but needed salt at the very least. The beans do not have lard which is the key ingredient next to beans in Mexican beans. I know it's healthier but I'm not eating Mexican food to be healthy. I came from a town close to the Mexico border so I understand true, authentic, Baja Mexican food is next to impossible to come by and I was hoping this was going to be it but sadly it was like all the other places I've been so far, just mediocre. They do have a salsa that is "hot" which is the closest thing to actually hot salsa I've encountered in Idaho but in the terms of hot, it was warm. Service was great and friendly. read more

Wow, I'm not really sure how to review this restaurant since my husband and I felt our meals were tasteless, worse than a cheap grocery store frozen microwaveable food off brand mexican dinner. We had the meals delivered, which in itself was odd. We didn't even know it had been delivered, my husband went out to his car for something and saw the meals sitting on the porch in their bags by the door. No knock, no notification, nothing! I'm guessing they'd been there for awhile since it was luke warm at best. My husband and I ordered the enchiladas. I had chicken he had steak. Both enchiladas were bland - they had an odd barely there flavor and were pasty. The refried beans were soupy nasty tasting goop that had spread to the entire plate. I spooned a bite onto my spoon and it literally poured off it when I tilted it. My husband will pretty much eat anything and he ate at most half his meal and told me to just throw mine out after I ate a few bites. To say I was disappointed is putting it mildly, I've been on a very strict low carb keto diet for 6 months, but, with family visiting I was looking forward to a cheat meal since they wanted Mexican food - thats what we got. What a waste of a cheat day. Now, both my mother and sister had the Pollo ala Crema and they said they liked it. I tried a mushroom off my mothers plate (she dislikes mushrooms so I was more than happy to help her out of her predicament) and I agree, it was very tasty! Creamy, slightly sweet and decent! So, to end this review both my husband and I sat there hungry looking on as the rest of the family enjoy their dinners. They did offer, but then we'd all be hungry with half meals. So, if you eat here its a 50/50 chance on IF you'll receive decent tasty meal, or be eating kindergarten school paste. read more
