We were able to walk this place from our hotel. Our server was Nyssa, she was really nice. I think she must've had some tables in another area also. I thought the food was pretty good. We got chips and salsa and we ate way too much. My husband got a large Pacifico and I got a Ramos Rita. Basically a large Cadillac margarita. I had taquitos as I didn't want to eat too much, but it was quite a bit with rice and beans. They were good and came with avocado and sour cream. Our group went on our lunch break during a meeting thinking usually Mexican is very quick - took over 15 min to prepare our table (there were two other groups there) and still no silverware on the table. Server was nice but we were there over 1.5 hrs in total. We waited almost 25 min for checks. Shared salsa bowls which is a little strange. I asked if my chimi could be smothered in queso and after checking they did say it was possible. The queso was orange which was different - but the kicker was smothering my chimi cost $13. At checkout - 3 of 8 meals were charged on the wrong cards. We just had to work it out among ourselves and Venmo each other. Food was ok - but wouldn't recommend. read more

Called a day ago and made a reservation for today at 8pm for two people. Went to a movie and then showed up to the restaurant afterwards right at 8 pm. Tugged on the door and it was locked. Checked the hours and it states they don't close until 9. We went to Bardenays instead. Mentioned what happened to the waitress there and she said she heard that they often close early if they are slow. Which is totally fine. But perhaps it would have been polite to call me and let me know my reservation would be cancelled, especially since they took my phone number. Not impressed. read more

This place has zero customer service. Not only were we ignored (when the place was mostly empty) just like other reviewers have mentioned but the staff cannot think outside the box. You have food. I want to buy food. I didn't care how you have to ring it up, I was fine with paying more for my custom request. But no, they can't do that. Had another member of our party who wanted a meat combo that came with shrimp. They cannot eat shrimp for religious reasons however wanted the rest of the combo. Asked if we could sub it for chicken, as chicken is typically lower cost than shrimp. Nope. What about anything at all? A few grains of rice for not taking the shrimp? Nope. Charge us less for costing you less? Nope. I made it clear that for the two small custom requests for our entire table that I would be willing to pay whatever they needed to charge. I couldn't have been more clear about that: but they said no and then blamed the owner who they said was very rigid with his rules. We have been here before due to the convenient location right next to the movie theater however we will not be returning. Visited Fri Sept 12, 2025 after seeing a movie at the theater next door. The food was pretty good but we were seated at a dirty table and we had to ask for it to be wiped down. The drink menu was sticky. The food arrived before our silverware did, and before the chips/dip. Was nice to try someplace different but probably would not return. read more

We had to go back all the way across town to the restaurant after they gave him completely the wrong order and didn't understand why themselves. Upon returning, there were no tortillas. Every time I've ordered pollo blanco, they come with tortillas. What's more, you are asked to choose the tortilla type when you order (see screenshot). The employee who answered the phone flippantly asked if I'd like him to read the dish description, and ignored what I said about what the online ordering said when we actually did order it. They also told us both times that, even though they got it wrong (twice) and we wasted gas on their mistakes, they couldn't do anything to make up for it. Sat at the bar tonight for dinner and a couple of beers. The food was good and the ambience of the restaurant in general was good, but the bartender was rarely behind the bar which made for a boring evening. With a bar like this, you'd expect someone always behind it keeping it lively. When she did stop by to see if I needed anything, she was friendly, but gone again. Just not present. Never seen a Mexican food place that does that, prior to this one. Chips are cheap and they certainly charge enough for their food to accommodate that. The manager should take a look at the number of customers in the restaurant for Sunday lunch (pretty much empty) and then take a gander at Bardenay and La Peep, just down the street. They are full. We were here Sunday afternoon. Service was very poor. Food was cold and not very tasty at all- $19 for two street tacos that had maybe 6 small-medium shrimp and a whole bunch of half way shredded cabbage. And then to top it off, went to use the restroom and it was filthy. All I could think was if this is the state of the bathroom, what does the kitchen look like?? Won't be back. Covid is over. We do understand that for some reason, it's hard to get employees. Here is the rub on this place. Our poor waiter had 12 tables! Bus boy was walking around and trying to hide. When he came over to clear tables, he had no try or tub! He was only as good as his hands could carry things! Should have read the reviews before we dined here. It wasn't very busy, but service was extremely slow. Took a while to place our order, get water and silverware although we had chips and salsa. I ordered a salad and it was supposed to be lettuce with beans, avocado, and chicken in a shell. No beans at all. Never had anyone check on us but there were at least 3-4 people being trained. Took forever for the bill. Just an all around bad experience. The manager obviously doesn't have a clue what to do to improve this place as evidenced by all the negative reviews. read more

Let me start by saying our waitress was the sweetest lady ever- that was the only good part about our experience. Truly terrible food. Hair in between tortillas for the fajitas, bean water sitting at the bottom of the beans, shrimp that made both of us sick... just all around bad. Do better...This place desperately needs server training. We were seated, given chips and a small salsa and then completely ignored. We were NOT even given water. After having multiple servers and staff pass by several times we asked if someone would be checking on us. This was after waiting for well over 20 minutes. Im from SoCal and this is the best place I've found so far. All I ever cook is Mexican food so it's nice to eat someone else's cooking once in a while. Lots of room for improvement here. My husband and I have been to this restaurant many times and loved it, but the last two times were unacceptable. Our poor waiter was overbooked by a useless hostess. He was exhausted and overwhelmed. The hostess nor the bus boy lifted a finger to help. The bus boy was stacking dirty dishes on the tables and lifting 5 dirty glasses at a time by sticking his fingers inside the glasses, then re-setting the tables with his dirty hands! So, Azteca is a perfectly fine place grab a bite to eat or a drink. I've been here several times and I feel like I've gotten my money's worth but there really isn't much that makes it unique or stand out. I feel like one of their biggest strengths is their location. They are right next to the movie theater and within walking distance of shopping, and a coffee shop or two. It is a great spot to grab food and then watch a movie or vice versa. They do have two TVs in the bar area in case you need to keep an eye on a game. And the service has been reasonably good. Again, nothing bad about it.
