The Missus and I have enjoyed dining here in the past, but it had been a while since our previous visit. My bad for not checking recent reviews beforehand. On Saturdays in past years, if you didn't have a reservation there could be a wait. But around 7 PM on the Saturday of our visit, it was not at all busy - a discomforting sign. I concur that the food quality and portion sizes are not as we remember. The chicken fajitas (brought on a plate, not sizzling in a skillet) was quite possibly the blandest I've ever tasted. Ditto the accompanying guacamole, rice, and refried beans. I requested corn tortillas but the server brought flour tortillas. When I pointed out the error, she said no problem. And, what did she bring? More flour tortillas! My Missus was equally disappointed with her skirt steak chimichangas. There were three but they were so small, they could be consumed in 4 bites. Everything on her plate, too, was bland and to top it off the meat was overcooked. We won't be back anytime soon. read more

We went to Las Fuentes for happy hour recently and the food was good and decent pricing. I was say there are other spots on Waukegan that are better but the service and ambiance here is nice. There is a lot of parking spaces as well. Their house chips and salsas were great. read more

Placed a To-Go order took it home only to open it and find 3 of 3 orders were wrong. Asked if salsa verde came with the meal and was told yes - it was left out of all three meals. Specifically stated NO cheese ONLY onion and cilantro on all three meals and got ONLY cheese and NO onion and cilantro. Ordered Togo. I live less than 5 min away. My food was ice cold by the time I got home. Not to mention I ordered 9 tacos for $69. Tacos were small, barely filled. This place used to be a sports bar, and then a cajun place... now it's Las Fuentes Mexican in Morton Grove! It's a pretty good place. The food menu is expansive enough that everyone can get something - and it's pretty fine overall. There's nothing wrong, but it's not "fall out of your seat awesome amazing" either. They refill the table chips/salsa too - so if that's on your bingo card, then the answer is yes. Great food and great service! It's never crowded when we're here, and we're not sure why--because it's a really excellent restaurant. We do usually come at lunchtime on weekdays, so that's probably why it's less busy. They're definitely set up to handle a lot more people. But yay for us because parking is readily available! Came for dinner around 530pm on a Friday with a group of 3 + toddler. Was not impressed with the service or food. Service was very slow and staff was not very attentive. They were not even full or very busy from what you could see in the restaurant. Took an additional drink order and they never brought it out. Asked for some hot sauce with the chips and salsa and got it after the food came out. Asked for our check, had to flag them down again to get it. Overall, just not impressed. The food was just alright. For Mexican I'd expect a lot more flavor. I got the shrimp and cheese quesadillas and there was no seasoning inside at all. It came with a sauce but it just tasted greasy and too soft for an empanada vs crispy and thick. I'm glad we asked for the hot sauce and that was really good as it was habanero and it made the empanadas taste better. The chips for chips and salsa also were not amazing and they took forever to refill it. Not sure I'd come back here as there are so many other delicious Mexican restaurants in the area. I like this place overall. The ambiance is not too commercial about being a Mexican restaurant, and the number of TVs make it feel more like a sports bar. The service was fast... plus they constantly were checking to see if I need more to drink. The food was also good. The skirt steak I order medium and was really well done, but the flavors were mostly there. This is actually one of the only places I have gone that I like the salsa that came with the chips! It may be worth getting whatever I get next time with the salsa. The price is my only challenge. With onsite gambling being there, you'd think that the price of food wouldn't need to be what it was. With tip, lunch for 2 was $70 with no alcohol. Yes it was skirt steaks, but the portions weren't huge. read more

I'm going to have to come back to give a thorough review with food. I only stopped in quickly for a margarita as I was waiting to meet up with some friends. The first thing I noticed is there are TWO parking lots. There's a cute outdoor patio with seating. The inside is very big and seems to have a decent amount of seating. I came around 5:45, so it was still pretty empty, and since I was only having a drink, I opted to sit at the bar. The staff brought us complimentary chips and salsa, and the salsa is so good! We went to this restaurant for the first time last night with a group of 10 adults (4 couples and 2 singles). Although the food was good, our waitress would not allow us to have 6 separate checks. So after our meal, we had to spend on inordinate amount of time to figure out what each person owed towards the bill. In this day and age, with practically everyone using their credit cards, and transactions being so simple to perform, what is so difficult about issuing separate checks. We spent almost $600 at this restaurant. Who are we trying to please here, the restaurant owner(s) or the PAYING customers. Our party of 10 will not be back to this restaurant again. And was that the goal of this establishment? I don't think so. Shame on them to think more about their convenience than the paying customer's. read more

Food is pretty good. I feel like the last few times I've been there and gotten the bistec La Mexicana, the quality of the steak has gone done. The guacamole is pretty good. I have been getting the enchiladas instead and those are excellent, however if you get a different kind (one cheese, 2 chicken) they up charge it $1 Not sure why or how that makes sense.....but ok We also had 2 adults and 2 kids and were charged for our second basket of chips. This is the first time that has ever happened and I come every couple of months. We spent over $100 and they couldn't give us a second complimentary basket of chips? Seems ridiculous. I used to like going to the restaurant since it was in the area. Recently, the prices went up and they charge you for everything!! I was charged for extra salsa for my dinner and an extra tortilla. The salmon is 34. That's outrageous! The salmon is a small piece. The steak is also now 38 and it's a small size. I will no longer go to this restaurant. There are fancier upscale Mexican restaurants nearby that charge less and don't nickel and dime you for every little thing! A little miniature salsa side was $2! The extra tortilla was $2.00. Honestly very disappointing. I love the lake view location and finally gave this location a try. Waited 25 min for anyone to stop at our table even after we let the host know at 10 min and the manager at 15 minutes. When ask to speak to the manager, she assured us we would get service. We almost left the restaurant, but our server came and greeted us. She did everything in her power to give the table an easier experience. Food was great. Again waiting for 25 minutes, you would think the manager would stop by and check on us of even offer free dessert. I wasn't asking to take care of the bill but to make us feel like guests she wanted to come back. I myself am a restaurant manager and will say the way the service went tonight was the worst I've seen. Not to forget, we had a table next to us and the server taking care of them even looked at us waiting and did not offer us any help. This place needs new management and real training. My suggestion is give servers sections on the patio rather than having it "pick up" that's how servers forget or have the host help if they're "busy" ,which they weren't, with waters. So we we're dining at the local La Fuentes in Morton Grove this past Friday May 9th My waitress name was Martha, and she was amazing. our bill was $85.03, and we left her $20.00 cash tip. Next day, I saw I was charged $85.03, and same day additional charges for $114.96! I went to talk to a manager on Sunday the 11th at 11am, and the manager said he will call me Monday to fix the problem. No one called, and the charges went through. Today, may 13th I went personally AGAIN to speak to someone in charge, I actually was able to speak with our waitress who remembered us. She told me she will escalate this matter again to her manager, and he will be calling me around 2pm. No call. I called around 2:30, and Martha the waitress answer the phone saying the manager is busy and the problem was fixed. I am absolutely outraged how I was treated. It seems that the restaurant has a management problem. While there are some redeeming qualities, they consistently fail on service, coordination and training. The space is large and always festively decorated for the season, and outdoor seating is available. But the festive ambiance belies cracks in the experience. On slow nights we've tried the bar and found ourselves abandoned with the bartender wandering off. On busy nights we've been seated in the back and waited a very long time to be noticed. There is a disconnect between the hosts, the bar, and the servers -ultimately a failure of management. Who's job is it to pay attention to the guests? Who's job is it to manage the staff? The food is American-Mexican, mild. "Mexican 101". Unfortunately the food is sometimes cold by the time it reaches you. The drinks are pretty good. No issues with the mixology. TV's at the bar. There is a gaming area for those interested in playing video poker, oddly. It seems like a welcoming place for all walks of life. I have been a fan of Las Fuentes since 1982, when I worked in the city and my colleagues and I would dine at their location on Halsted every chance we had! In 2012 Las Fuentes opened in Morton Grove and my family and friends were thrilled! The restaurant is beautiful and spacious and has an authentically warm and happy atmosphere and hands down the best margaritas ever!! We have tried most everything on the menu and have never been been disappointed. I think their guacamole is outstanding as are their beef, chicken and fish items. Of course, I usually end up with a combination because I like everything here. Their coconut and regular flan are silkyand flavorful. This last time we went Dahlia stopped by our table and was charming as usual asking us how everything was and making sure everything was perfect. Gerardo our serve gets it right every time also. In the 12 years that we've been eating here I just had the worst take out experience. Every item on the order was wrong in some way: missing 1 of 2 quesadillas missing both rice sides for quesadillas missing rice + beans side for tostada missing tortillas for queso fundido 3 out 4 tostadas were missing guacamole The insult to this injury was that I waited 30-35 minutes beyond the stated pickup time of 7:25. I was asked at least a 1/2 dozen times what my name was while a large carryout bag with no ticket on it was ignored. After 25 minutes they took the bag to the rear and returned with it slightly repacked. The food was COLD. They hostess tried to pass the food off as "fresh and warm" after I asked her to confirm if was the same food waiting by the hostess stand for 30+ minutes. To the hostesses credit there was a half-hearted offer to remake the food, but running 35 minutes late for family dinner I wasn't going to take my chances with a busy kitchen. This place is grossly overpriced for the food. Go to Burrito House in Niles instead, food is better AND not overpriced. read more

First time here for a friend's birthday. We reserved for 6 and they put us in a booth with no social distancing. We asked to be moved and they let us but the table is not big enough to comply with the social distancing. On a normal situation that would be ok but they should think about the health of customers too. Anyway, the food is really good, i mean everything is cooked perfectly. Being from California, it really is hard to top let alone match Mexican food from San Diego. However, I would say this place is good enough. I would recommend getting one of their combinations because that would be the best bang for your buck.
