Got some pretty okay Mexican food from this questionable looking place and it was better than it appeared. It looks kind of bare bones inside but the food is what matters the most. Famous Taco Burger is one of the overlooked restaurants in Evanston. Has a pretty weird name to be honest. They certainly aren't that famous because most people around here haven't actually even heard of them. Came here after looking up places around here and this came up and there wasn't much said about it. It's got a pretty unique name of course so that made us want to take a look. This is located in a not as busy part of town. A place that has the menu up on the walls and there's a lot of things listed. They amazingly have both burgers and tacos. It's about $12 for the Taco Dinner. This comes with beans and rice. You choose what kind of tacos, and we chose the Veggie Tacos. Basic looking ones to be honest. These had cilantro, onions, and peppers. Has to be one of the best examples of a restaurant that looks like crap but the food is actually good. It's okay but could use a remodel. Finally a legit Mexican restaurant in this area. Here are my takeaways from a Mexican American. - This is not your typical gentrified restaurant. You don't come here for the decor, you come here for the food. This is owned by a Mexican family serving traditional Mexican food. - Common curtesy for ANY restaurant you visit. If you don't like something, give the restaurant an opportunity to make it right before giving out a 1 star and affecting peoples livelihood. - The specialty here is Mexican food but all food here is made from scratch when speaking with the owner. - When having traditional Mexican food, its common to have to add some additional ingredients. For example Tacos, add a bit of salt, lime, and green or red sauce. - Lastly there is a secret menu if you know what you're looking for - The service was spectacular, the owner/chef let us try some steak flautas that weren't on the menu yet for feedback and they were amazing read more

Finally an amazing and authentic Mexican restaurant in Evanston! This is my second visit and it did not disappoint. My first visit I ordered the steak taco dinner which was so delicious and today I ordered their chicken flautas dinner and OH MY GOODNESS I can't stop thinking about them. The chicken in the flautas was so full of flavor and juicy. The order came with six flautas which is a lot but I couldn't stop eating them they were so good. Highly recommend them. Everything they make is from scratch and you can really taste that. The service was amazing! Everyone that works here is so kind. Spent some time speaking with the owner and I truly hope they are around for many years to come. The restaurant is extremely clean. You come here for the food, not fancy tables and chairs. read more

What a disappointment. The space is very weird with no decor. We ordered take out. The chicken fajita was so over cooked it was hardly edible. The rice that came with it was so dry and flavorless that it was not eatable. The biggest problem was the chicken burrito had ZERO chicken. I mean NONE. See photo of the "chicken" burrito. we were excited to try out this new restaurant in our neighborhood. I ordered the patty melt while my partner ordered the chicken tacos. it's unfortunate but the beef in my patty melt had big chunks of gristle in it. I was offered a replacement. I opted for the steak taco. Gristle in the first bite and that was it. Chicken tacos were fine. sure hope they get better quality beef in the future. read more

My husband and I were excited to see this new restaurant on Central! We checked out Famous Taco Burger tonight and it was really tasty - we each had a burrito and and they were perfectly stuffed and toasted. Mine was filled with pulled chicken and it was just slightly crispy (my husband had pork). The restaurant was clean and the staff were super friendly and attentive. Our only suggestion would be to try and make the fries extra crispy so they hold up better for takeout. We look forward to going back! read more

I'm happy to see a new food spot on central, and I think that this place has some potential. This one hits close to home, literally, since I live a block away... I have now been here twice, once ordered in person, and once picked up. The first time, when I ordered in person, I had a good experience. Other than the ambiance being absolutely and utterly horrific (white walls completely barren, like a hospital), my three tacos were delicious. The price isn't anything to celebrate over, but it's not abnormal. If I had written this review after my first experience, I would give it 4, probably even 5 stars... however, my second order for pick up was all messed up. I was in a hurry and wanted to get some food near my house, decided to order the same tacos as my last visit, but also a burger for my dogs to share. I got 3 tacos, add avocado and cheese, no cilantro. - Only one had avocado, and they all had cilantro (this made me upset because I have the stupid gene where cilantro tastes like soap, so i never get it...) so I had to push my plans back and go show the woman who took my order (btw she was very very nice). To add insult to injury, the tacos looked lazily slapped together, unlike last time, and the proportions were completely off. (Weird since I was the only customer in the store) Long as* story short, my dogs loved the burger and I loved the tacos, i will be going back and I hope the ambiance improves. This is a legit taqueria, something North Evanston has been in need of forever. I feel badly that I waited so long to try the food (from the name I assumed it was Americanized Mexican/fusion). Don't make the same mistake. The food is traditional and well made by very attentive and authentic owners. I can't speak to the burgers (haven't tried them), but the Burritos, tacos, and flautas are all solid, the salsa's are excellent, and the Mexican fries are crisp and tasty.
