The place was surprisingly clean for a well-worn taco shop with little charm but that provides quick and decent basic tex-mex food. We ordered at the counter and picked up our tray when the food was ready. My wife and I shared a reasonably sized single portion of chicken fajitas. After two cans of soda, tax and tip the bill came to $32. Overpriced for a lunch that was no better than Chipotle. They don't even include chips and salsa. The food here is pretty good! You walk up to the front, order from the wall-mounted menu, and wait for your order. I came here and ordered a bunch of food to try: Elotes -- street-style corn. The corn was kind of over-cooked as it was more mushy than crunchy Chips and guacamole -- plenty of guacamole. Seasoned well and the perfect crunchy to smooth ratio. Chips could have been more, which usually its the opposite; there's more chips than guacamole, but not in this case. Chips needed some salt. Chicken fajitas -- came out sizzling, as fajitas should be. The order came with ample amount of tortillas and overall, was great. Chicken cooked well, veggies were seasoned well. Fish and shrimp taco (seafood combo) -- I liked the shrimp taco over the fish. The fish was grilled Cheetos Burrito -- somewhat gimmicky, but it was your ordinary burrito, with some flaming hot Cheetos in it. The burrito came with shredded lettuce, refried beans, ground beef. Decent sized burrito, but not the football-size burritos that you may find in other places Dining area was decent-sized. It consisted of tables and chairs, as well as a couple of booths. The burritos are a family favorite - the teens love the cheeto burrito but I (the honorary "teen") love the Cali burrito the most! If you love "burn your booty hole" level of spice, do NOT forget to try the No Mames hot sauce (it's in the fridge.. if the labels aren't clear, just ask. Trust me!) Usually I don't care for chicken as a protein option but the chicken tinga in either the tacos or burritos are also really good! Above all of the raves I could share about the food though, the best part of La Taquiza y Mas is the service. I was so annoyed that they don't offer cups for water and that my burrito bowl with added vegetable was going to cost me as much as the sushi place across the street until my dish arrived. All I wanted was beans, veggies, and chicken; they delivered in spades. The giant portion of sautéed veggies and boiled shredded chicken was very satisfying and I was happy to learn that they don't add oil to their black beans. I've been trying to try different places around the area for lunch when I'm at work and came across this spot. I definitely wanted Mexican food, but wasn't sure what I was going to get. I must have came during one of the high school lunch breaks because it was a little busy. There was a lot to choose from and I decided to get the milanesa de pollo torta and elote. I also ordered an agua fresca jimica, but they ran out and substituted a mango jarritos instead. The food came out quickly. I used the green salsa and hot salsa that was located in the refrigerator. The hot salsa was definitely spicy, but very tasty. I enjoyed the sandwich and am curious to go back to get the bigger sized torta just to try it. The elote came in a cup and tasted exactly how you would expect it to. Overall, the food was filling and the salsas were tasty. If you are going to get an agua fresca, I would advise you to check the fridge to make sure they still have what you are looking for. read more

Older shop in a strip mall, but nice and clean. We chose La Taquiza because it's hard to find Barbacoa on nearby menus and they had it. Ordered carry out and the staff was friendly and helpful. They called to let me know the enchiladas are 3 to an order and I had only ordered 2, and were helpful in talking me through all the options and my questions. Generous amount of food. Huge burrito, enchiladas (enough for 2 meals for me), taquitos came with sliced avocado (nice touch), good guacamole, very yummy rice and beans. We were in Glenview for some business and it started to get late. We were hungry and saw La Taquiza Y Mas in a shopping center to the north of Palatine/Willow Road. After quickly checking the Yelp reviews, we decided to give it a try. La Taquiza Y Mas has their own spin on traditional Mexican street food. I can't exactly describe it. The flavors are a bit different but quite nice. We each had tacos, beans, rice, and a drink. Between the two of us, we had the following types of tacos: chorizo,carne asada, tinga, pastor, and barbacoa. We also had rice and beans. The tacos were good. The corn tortillas were a little too moist, but they didn't detract from the taste. I wasn't a real fan of the rice. I found it bland and dry. The beans were made very well and tasted great. Even though COVID was still out there, we decided to eat inside - all of the outdoor tables were taken. The staff all wore masks, but not all of the customers. Still, we stayed at a table a bit away from others. I really like Mexican street food and get it often. La Taquiza Y Mas was good but not as good as some of the others we've been to. This is a very pleasant, clean, little Mexican restaurant that I come to on occasion. I have only eaten the tacos but they have always been really tasty and I've never been disappointed. They have a sister location in Northbrook and the food seems identical. At the Northbrook location, I've eaten more of the menu so I assume this place is the same. Thursday is Taco Thursday (their version of Taco Tuesday) so you get a discount on Thursday. The tacos are served traditional style - oinions and cilantro. Very tasty shrimp taco but only three medium to small shrimp for $4 it's just not enough. If there had been four shrimp on that taco this would be a four star rating. The cut lettuce, tomatoes and jalapeños were very fresh and the two thin slices of avocado were a nice addition. Three different sauces (smoky guajillo, spicy and a green jalapeño) are kept in the fridge and you have to kind of figure your way around this place because they don't really tell you. There's a small little room in the back that's kind of cute if you have a crowd. Maybe we'll come back but they really need to add that fourth shrimp. These are not street size tacos so it was really obvious there wasn't enough shrimp for each bite. read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch after a quick pick up at Walgreens. The inside was bright, clean, decorated for Valentine's Day. The walls had nice murals. Also has a punch card available for frequent visitors. They offer a take out menu too. They are on FB and IG. The food was great. The amount given is equal to price point ( ya know.. inflation supply issues..) Three steak tacos.. the meat was marinated well and served on a cute small cookie tray. The Mr ordered the steak fajitas meal. It was sizzling! Came with crema, refried beans, rice, and cheese on the side and his tortillas were warm and abundant. The fridge just to the side of the counter has drinks and the salsa bottles. Return those salsa bottles to the fridge! What a treat for carryout! We shared a dozen tacos of barbacoa, grilled vegetables (surprisingly good with peppers and mashed black beans), rice and beans, cochinita, chicken, steak and beef tongue (that's an acquired taste). Came with lots of salsa and lime on the side, and all topped with onions and cilantro. Loved that the carryout is all wrapped in paper, minimal aluminum foil and all tucked inside a paper bag. No plastic, woohoo!!! Easy ordering and paying via phone and they have curbside pickup!! Wish I can give them 6 stars. We've had their side orders of rice and beans, tortilla soup and tamales as well in the past and they are always fresh and delicious. read more

Ordered tacos on Taco Thursday special! While $1.50 tacos seem like a great deal, the al pastor taco was extremely dry and bland. I initially thought they gave me a chicken taco because it looked like flat strips of meat versus what I've had from a trompo so I compared it to the boy's taco with onions and cilantro but the meat looked the same. Their lengua wasn't bad but you need extra salsa because it was also dry. The interior is cute though. Carne asada was slightly better but still dry. Not the best Mexican food I've had, but in this area of the suburbs this brings a really good balance between price and quality. La Taquiza is a small little restaurant located in a strip mall, which can be difficult to find without a sign in front to mark the restaurant at all. Somehow though, due to the selection of items and low prices -- it seems that people find this place anyway (there was quite a line when I went to grab a quick lunch). Tacos are pretty similar to what I've found in some of the nicer restaurants in the city. They're not overly fancy or complex, but rather simple tasty versions of familiar favorites. My recommendation here are the bomba tacos and tinga tacos. The mix of spices provides a good dose of heat and a feeling of delicious comfort food. Also don't miss their enormous burritos filled with tons of cheese and rice, with a good helping of meat. In a comparison between this place and the little joint on Shermer rd, the joint wins. I always get a pork taco w/onions and cilantro and a pork tostada. Here the taco came with pickled onions and was three bucks and tasted a little over cooked, almost burnt. The joint's pork taco came with chopped onion and had great flavor and was $2.25 Hmmm. On to the tostada. Here it was much smaller than the joint though the price was the same or close to it. IMO the joint is the hands down favorite for flavor and value. You have to get to the joint before the lunch rush before the line gets out the door, here, no line and very few customers at least on the day I was there. I like the joints anyway so for me it's the Shermer rd location. read more

Eddies the man. I tried the lengua tacos. They were theses beautiful cubes of a primo lengua. Perfectly seasoned. Other taco a wonderful chili rellenos piping hot with warm orange Mexican rice and inside was this chili rellenos fresh out of the fried stuffed with cheese encapuzuled in a light batter. We tried posolè verdè cooked in porkstock with hominy sesame seeds poblano peppers. Jalapenó, porkshoulder, fried chips, radishes, limes, chichuronne. I was returning the four sauces and spotted a new drink next to the horchata it was freshly made hibiscus drink a rich dark purple. Was yum. Saving it tho, currently. My stomach has no room.Eddy was very nice and let me try the drink. He recommended Ta- kill-ya (often known as tequila. My dear friend who has been known to partake with some Petrone ) I'll be back and want to try the tamales. Seems like no shortcuts here Have to return and try molé fries. read more

The cover came in handy as it started raining half way through our meal. The staff was very friendly and offered up suggestions. It was so nice to have recommendations. I ordered the Chile Relleno entree plate which included rice,beans and tortillas. It was very tasty and the portion size was huge. It was nice to be served on a plate. I just wished they had real silverware. It is a little hard cutting the peppers with a plastic knives. I would order again. My wife also enjoyed her Enchiladas entree plate with green sauce. The portion size was also on the huge size. But she still joined the clean plate club The bottomline is that we will be back. The chicken was loaded with well cooked long shreds of white meat and the tongue had good sized chunks of moist roasted meat. The prep was well done, each item was nicely prepared with lettuce, rice and beans. . Good to see black beans and rice on the side. small cups of all three hot sauces too. They also have home made juices in the cooler, including melon and hyacinth. Bottles include Coke, Crush, Jarritos, The blackboard menu if nicely written and well laid out. Probably the grossest tacos I've ever had. There were chunks of lard in my tacos. The kitchen looked super messy and disorganized. THaco Thursday! Yes, I said "Thursday". They have half off tacos on Thursdays. Your choice of meat with onions and cilantro in a corn tortilla for $1.25. Meats include: asada (steak), bomba (pork, ham, chorizo) with pineapple, pollo (shredded chicken breast), tinga (chipotle shredded chicken), chorizo papa (with potato). We ordered a variety of 22 tacos for carry out. Between the 8 of us, we all liked every taco. Each one was tastefully seasoned. Favorites were asada and bomba. Service was fast and great. They were friendly and even packed all their different salsas for us, so we could taste them all. It's in a strip mall with no visible sign, but look for the "Corona" and "Modelo" beer signs in the window. The interior is bright with a murals and Mexican banners. The menu is written on a chalk board. It's a pretty full menu, but don't forget to check the hanging signs for specials. There is outdoor seating for those warm summer nights when you can enjoy an agua fresca or Mexican beer. Thank you Yelp once again for recommending a new place for us. Driving up from the city to Highland Park, we had two cravings: a Mexican take out and to try a new place. After some searching, this little gem popped up. Not completely on the way, the slight detour was well worth it. As other reviewers pointed out, this place is quaint but tidy. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a friendly smile. The service, the portions, the food, the price - everything was great. I especially enjoyed the authentic Mexican sweets.
