I realize this place has been in between Bath & Body Works and Carter's for a long time and it has taken me this long to try it. Shame on me. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. There was a decent amount of staff and it seems like they offer a lot of options. Food like Belgian Waffles and nachos plus smoothies and ice cream. I purchased two smoothies, a strawberry banana smoothie for me and a straight strawberry one for me three year old. Adam loved his smoothie and I thought my smoothie was very good. When we walked in all of the tables were occupied. The decor was modern and the entire place looked very clean. Haven't been here since they opened at the new location and was debating to write a review because I liked coming here, I decided to order a corn mind you that it was already opened for 2 hours and I see the employee put the corn in a bag and then put the bag in the microwave, if I'm being charged 6 plus tax for a small 8 oz cup of corn I don't expect it to be warmed up in the microwave in a plastic bag , I could do that at home. I went to the West Chicago location a week ago, and loved it, so I figured I'd try Bloomingdale, since it's closer to home. What I liked better about this location than the West Chicago one was that there were labels on all ice cream flavors! Interesting flavors: tequila, buttery nipple.... I got 1 scoop of mint Oreo and one scoop regular Oreo. They were just as delicious as the strawberry cheesecake I had at the other location. They're now one of my new fav places for ice cream! They'll give you samples of whatever you'd like to try, which is nice because the flavors are so unusual. I'm a non-Spanish speaking, Coldstone Oberweis-eating mama, and ice creams with spice aren't my usual cup of tea. They also sell a few Mexican foods if you're not into ice cream. But if that's the case, why the heck'd you go to an ice cream shop? I got mine in a dish but they have waffle cones. And it's so cheap as compared to other places! A good start for a very, very badly needed Mexican heladeria in the western suburbs. La Michoacana has the assortment of cold desserts you were looking for: mangolladas, freshly-made popsicles and many, many kinds of ice cream... along with a random Jimmy's Seaside Fries. I did not try the fries or whatever else is sold there, so this review doesn't cover that. What this review does cover is the environment, which was bright and friendly, and the ice cream. And this place does the ice cream pretty well. I got the coconut and the rum raisin; one scoop each, in a cup. I'm not entirely sure what "all natural" means in this context, but the coconut was churned well, with flakes of coconut uniformly distributed in a coconutty custard. It could be improved by toasting the coconut but that's getting nitpicky. The rum raisin was a punch in the teeth. In a mostly good way. Completely frozen raisins would not be good in ice cream, so you have to soak them in alcohol to keep it soft enough to go well with the ice cream. I assure you, these raisins were well-soaked, to the point of being flat-out boozy. This flavor is not for the children. :-) In both cases the ice cream seems to have been made with less heavy cream and more half and half or whole milk; this results in a slightly gritty texture, but at the same time I'm *pretty* sure that's the standard for heladerias. YMMV. Overall I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more flavors; there are so many and with so much variety, you're bound to find one you like. Ferrero Rocher, anyone? read more

I haven't been here in about 8 months. I got the buttery nipple ice cream which was really good. And it has actual liquor in it so don't give it to the kiddos! Kids always love it here. What kids doesn't like a cool treat? The gel floor tiles are cool, the kids adore it. I'd totally give this place a 5 stars again for the tasty stuff they make but I'm just bummed how dirty it was here. Behind the counter where the ice cream is seemed clean. The staff handles everything well. It's the eating area where everyone sits that bothered me! Now there's two things I totally understand, kids and spills always happen, and when you are busy you may not have a lot of time to clean up after the masses. But I'm pretty sure it takes maybe 5 minutes to give the floor and tables a good wipe down. And if you do that every hour you'll always have a clean sitting area. I honestly didn't want to sit inside due to how sticky the table was and how messy the floor is. There was spilled ice cream that was still wet as well as dried ice cream spills. The entire floor under the table we sat at was full of cookie bits, sprinkles, and ice cream smears and drips. (Which tells me it's been there a while since some of it was dried) It only takes a few minutes to have some one come around to every table and wipe them all down and definitely have some one mop the floor. I didn't even know this place existed even though I am in the shopping center weekly. Went here instead of Oberwise for desert one day and I was pleasantly surprised. I had tamarin ice-cream which was amazing- it came in the ice-cream and in the ready to go bar (i got the ready to go bar for convenience but the ice-cream flavor was better since I tried that one) The only thing about this place was that it was overwhelming, it took be a solid 5 minutes to decide want I wanted- I was stuck between the ice-creams (which they had so many flavors) the the frozen bars. Maybe they sit too long in boiling water because they don't sell or they're serving the previous day elotes. Ritter way that's gross. The ice cream is ok but something isn't right. The owners I believe brother in law was in and working it on a Saturday morning (yes I went in the morning not that early, dont judge me) He was very nice, friendly, explained anything we had questions on when ordering some new things we've never tried. Now....for the good part...the food. So fresh, so delicious, and just made to perfection! So many must as we got Dorilocos made both ways offered and AMAZING. The topo Chico preparado was refreshing and a yummy surprise, even the basic chocolate ice cream was delicious. I will for sure be back and would recommend anyone to go and try it. Plus the decor is updated and looks clean and sleek in there. Was really hungry, read in the window they where now selling tacos, burritos, and Tortas wanted to give it a try. The new little restaurant inside there has some delicious food!! I tasted there quesadilla with meat my friend had some carne asada tacos and he loves them. They give you some chips and dip while you wait and the salsa is great. This place is the BEST! I've been there twice this week already. The employees are so nice, we were greeted immediately and were shown all the flavor a. The employees were very nice and let us try pretty much every flavor we wanted. They have a good selection of ice creams and sorbets which all tasted very fresh. They even had fresh fruit juices! If you've never had fresh cantaloupe juice I highly recommend it. Everything is very clean and the prices are reasonable for the amount you get. The tequila ice cream is tasty. I also like the fact that they had Impractical Jokers on tv (a comedy reality show). My husband and I just sat in a booth eating ice cream and giggling. Love it. read more

My (Mexican) fiance and I LOVE Michoacana and have visited many locations. This location, however, is NOT like the rest. It appears to be run by someone who is not Latino and you can definitely tell that the quality is subsidiary to that of the REAL Michoacana locations we often visit. The serving we received is about 1/3 of the standard size at other locations and almost everything is scraped down to the bottom so they can grab every last bit of the frost-bitten treat so as not to waste a penny. I almost always opt for strawberry water and it looked like pink milk that had gone bad. I really wanted strawberry water so I inquired about it and, sure enough, the worker was honest and explained that it was no longer edible! We walked over to the ice-creams and we almost everything was deplete (unlike other locations that keep everything fresh and new!). The worker was very kind and scraped together the very last bit of (icy) ice-cream and did not overfill our cups as most locations do. We were disappointed by this location even though the flavors were still good. The worker was very helpful but the manager/owner didn't even look at us. If you didn't fill up on popcorn at the Picture Show, here is a great place to stop for a bite with the kids after. We enjoyed two exotic scoops we couldn't pronounce - huge scoops for just $3.00 - and sampled many other flavors. The proprietor was friendly and helpful and while we were enjoying our order, he described many of the flavors that were new to me. He also pointed out which were novelty flavors and which were the most authentic heladeria flavors made with fruit and nuts that grow in Mexico and other tropical places. The seating area was clean and the prep area was sparkling. Children enjoyed jumping on the squishy dye-filled tiles that run down the middle of the store. Flavored coffees, other sweet treats, and a modest list of fast food items are also offered here. (I'm sure existing as an ice cream-only store has great economic challenges in our weather.)
