The food was great! I ordered the chili relleno breakfast. The rellenos were crispy and the green chili was great. the service was excellent. The waitress was polite and attentive. My complaint is the water. It has some weird soapy flavor. I have experienced this at another restaurant that I won't name here, but it was the exact same taste. I love water. I cannot stand whatever they have done to theirs. I think some places put filters on when not needed and it really can take things down a notch. Every time I try an "authentic" Mexican restaurant in Colorado, I am cautious as it is rate that they hit the spot and usually the "popular" places always let me down. However, I ordered Las Palmas I last week for lunch as I work a block away and I was pleasantly surprised! The adobada tacos were flavorful, tender, and so delicious! The corn tortillas tasted fresh and homemade. My coworkers got the asada and pastor tacos and both said they loved them. The tortilla chips were so good! And the salsa that came with it was flavorful and tasty. The vibe is casual and welcoming and everyone was friendly. Will be ordering again very soon. read more

A co-worker surprised me with a breakfast burrito one day and WOW! I immediately asked her where it was from and it turns out it was from this place which just so happens to be a few blocks from our work. I had driven by this place every day and had never stopped in. Well, it is now my go-to place for a quick hand-held breakfast burrito! When you first enter the restaurant, you are immediately greeted. I have never sat down and had a meal here as I always just get it to go. I have also never had to order ahead. They take your order, you pay, and within 5 minutes or less, your burrito is ready! It is so convenient. The breakfast burrito: It is big! I have never been able to finish a whole one. You get the choice of meat as well as your choice of spiciness with the green chile. The first time I ordered here I got chorizo with medium green chile. It was very good. The second time I did not get any meat in it and I opted for hot green chile. For me, the green chile is not spicy at all....even with ordering the hot. The flavors are delicious though and there is plenty of each ingredient. I think I paid around $6.00, which is worth it for the amount of food you get. I plan on coming in here for lunch or dinner soon just so I can try other things on their menu! read more

I saw a pic of a Chimichanga yesterday and I have to have it! I've never had one either. So I found out that it's like a fried burrito and it's similarity doesn't end there. You can have different kinds of meat as well. I opted for the chicken chimi. I don't know much about this dish but I know good food. Their chimi is loaded with chicken meat. The rice was tasty and it will come in a big plate with your level of heat. Mine? Mild. This place is just down the street from the other famous place called Bonfire. It is literally a 5 minute walk. Maybe not even. Clean inside. Menu for breakfast has two sides the American side and the Mexican side. So no worries. They got you covered! Awesome server! Also they're very good at helping you achieve your perfect dish. If you want certain things added or deducted from your dish they allow you to modify your order! Strongly do not recommend. Beans and Enchilada Sauce were both served room temperature. Chip refills cost 2.75 for a normal amount of factory-made chips. The chiccarones (pork) pieces were like small rocks in the burrito. The green chili smothered burrito came with chili everywhere but on the burrito. Service was slow when they were not busy. Not the best and pricey but breakfast is a good deal. They charge like $8 for a large horchata and their prices have been inconsistent. I've been charged $4 for the bigger cup, $4 other times for the small cup, and they've wanted to charge $8 for the larger cup, so they need to get it together. Taqueria Las Palmas (TLP to its closest friends, like me) is new - maybe. Formerly La Carreta, the sign says "under new management" - but the phone number hasn't changed from that of La Carreta. And the dining room hasn't much changed either. And actually, that's kind of regrettable. Lots of tables needed busing when we arrived but they did catch up with them as the night went on. The dining room is otherwise clean, but very "tired." Vinyl seat pads in the booths are torn. Paint is chipped and scraped. Floor moldings are scuffed. I sound negative, but I really do mean it constructively. TLP has potential. The food is standard Tex-Mex but it's good Tex-Mex. Salsa has a nice bite. Tostadas - guacamole and bean - are good. Likewise the crispy relleno, tamale, chicharron burrito and green chili. Service is very pleasant and attentive. And, prices are very good - most combinations under $10. Bottom line - I don't know if TLP is just La Carreta rebranded or a new enterprise. Doesn't matter - I liked it, whatever it is. Most things about it are good. Except the poor condition of the dining room and furnishings. It's not really seedy, but it wouldn't take that much to freshen it up. It's pretty good. But it can be better. C'mon TLP - be all that you can be. read more

Subpar food. Apathetic customer service. Do not waste your time or appetite on this place! I visited La Carreta at 5pm on a Monday evening. Not many customers there, but there were two servers. I ordered the 'Pechuga de Pollo' plate, which included grilled chicken breast alongside roasted chiles, rice, beans, guacamole and tortillas. Sounded good to me! I found the serving sizes to be small for an $11 plate, but that's neither here nor there. I was just looking for flavor. Sadly, the primary flavor I tasted all over the chicken was SALT. The chicken was inescapably overly-salted. I'd hoped to mask that strong saltiness by pairing my bites of salty chicken with the tiny scoop of guacamole on my plate. Unfortunately, this restaurant must cycle their avocados or guacamole in a way where they allow for use of rotten fruits. The guacamole had a distinctly bad flavor. If anyone in the kitchen would have bothered to taste the guacamole, I doubt they'd be serving it. Or, who knows? I was hoping that perhaps the rice and beans could redeem this plate. Nope! Crusty, undercooked, bland rice. Flavorless, thinned out refried beans. Ho-hum. I've tasted better than this from canned Rosarita beans, and those remind me of dog food. The server never checked back on me, otherwise I'd have asked for something different on the menu. This food was terrible. However, I honestly have my doubts as to whether or not anything on this menu is decent. No one really seems to care about what's going on at this place --- how the customer's meals are, whether or not anyone is ready to pay or needs a drink refill. I was not the only customer there being neglected. Since no one ever checked back on me, I had to flag someone down to both pay my bill as well as get a refill on my iced tea. The servers as well as the cook had plenty of time to sit at the front of the resultant and chit chat. I have no problem with this except that the customers --- myself included --- were not being taken care of. I used to love this place before it changed ownership and it has been years since I've visited here. Unless the ownership changes again, I'd never, ever come back. Also, I cannot recommend this establishment to anyone, at any time or for any reason. read more

We went there specifically for the 2 for 1 Coronas on Friday afternoon for happy hour. There is a huge banner hanging on the side of the building advertising the special. We get seated and order the 2 for 1 Coronas from our waitress. To our surprise, she tells us that she has never heard of that special. We told her that it was posted a few feet from the front door and she informed our party that it must be a mistake. I explained that it was visible from the road and that the banner advertisement is what brought us in. She still refused to honor the sign. Annoyed but not trying to be rude (we had already started eating the chips and salsa), we all ordered Bud Light and Coors Light. She then came back to take our order and we explained we would only be having our beers and going somewhere else for happy hour. She immediately left our table and never came back. We had to go find her to pay our bill. At that point, we gave the recommendation of removing the banner to avoid any more confusion. She till continued to argue with us that the sign did not exist and if it did it can't be removed. At that point, we gave up trying to help the woman understand our misunderstanding. Dined at this restaurant for 2 years, usually on the weekends, mostly due to the fact that once a week or more I call in and pick up a simple egg, potato, cheese breakfast burrito before the workday, which is about $4.49, but always leave a $1 tip, which is $5.49. Today, the front person (not the owner) and server who is fluent in English and Spanish told me cash only going forward for any orders under $5, and pointed to a policy on the wall. The server, when I walked in, was doing prep in the bar area, and had two customers in booths she had already waited on. Called back after leaving letting her know that $4.49 + $1 (tip) is $5.49, when run on the card, and asked if that meets the $5 policy, but she said "I don't know". I loved this place because of the way they used to make their huevos rancheros. They used to put potatoes on the plate that tasted fantastic with the green chili.
