I was recommended the golden mill by many people when visiting golden and had to give a try! On first glance, it is located right along the river that goes through the town, which is an amazing view. Once inside there is a first floor that has a few different food options as well as the pour your own beer options as well. In order to partake in the beer option, you need to get a card that you can tap to the machine and you pay per the ounce. They have other drinks beside beer on tap as well such as different types of cocktails. They have a great food selection. That includes many different varieties of food throughout the venue as well. The top floor also has a few additional beer options as well as food options. I decided to go with a barbecue option which I got a brisket sandwich which was really good as well as a side of fries and some of the barbecue sauce. I also got a beer on top from one of the local breweries. It was a chilly day out, but I still wanted to sit on the patio on the top deck, so we sat by a fireplace. They have a ton of different fireplaces, all throughout the top deck as well as the lower deck as well so sitting outside was an option for the time of the year that I was there which was March. Maybe in the dead of the winter they don't have this option but just keep that in mind. Anyways, I thought the view of the course brewery factory right across the way was really cool to see as well. The food was really good and I love getting beer by the ounce because if you don't like the beer, you can just get a different one and you don't have to make a whole glass pour every time you get one. I definitely would recommend the golden mill. It definitely seems like a place that a lot of locals hang out and there is a food or beverage option for everyone so even picky eaters would love this place. This is a real toss up for me. We were with a visitor who had been there when in Golden for a conference and thought we would like the concept of a food hall and like the sort of food she had there in the past. I am familiar with food halls at home in Boulder that I like and frequent regularly. This was nothing like them in so many ways. It was obvious that this is lived locally but in a holiday it was so ham packed that it was unpleasant for a newcomer to negotiate. Yes, for beer lovers the concept of self serve from the many taps and pay by the ounce Baxter so many in stock is novel, but I don't drink beer or margaritas and I could not find a simple ice tea. There were sodas from a machine which also did not suit me either. The concept of the scan card seems good for the cafeteria atmosphere and the beer supply but the food places did take credit cards, where at least you see the receipt etc. you leave the card in a box when you leave and they charge the credit card you entered to get it. No real review apparently by the customer. Most of the food I saw in menus and the tables were not my style either, huge portions of mediocre looking food. My husband had trouble figuring it part of the ingredient in the biggest burrito I have ever seen. He could not pick it up fore the crema decorating the tortilla which was thicker than any I've ever seen. On the other hand, my food was fairly good though grease dripped out at every bite. It was a Gordita made with crisp little corn cakes and the al pastor filling was tasty. The others in the group all had large portions of unappealing to me food so I did not taste and far too. Big for a healthy lunch. While we were eating at compared communal tables , the restrooms across from them were propped open for the steady stream of users. But on a holiday weekend a prime lunch time when we arrived, it was the only option. The entry line to get the pay card was nearby and the line went up the stairs to the entry with at least 20 to get and register the card, many with children in tow. Our guest knew where to park so that was no problem jf you are willing to pay to park for a meal. We were, but would have lived a quality meal and not a madhouse. The only staff person I spoke with because her food was dessert and not peak season for ice cream was so friendly and helpful and mad a custom snack size of her New Zeland style treat. She saved the day for me. I will not return but others in our party might should the occasion arise and clearly the locals who are regulars keep them well supported. The Golden Mill has a great overall vibe with many food vendors, a huge beer dispenser wall and a beautiful rooftop. Even though we visited on an extremely busy weekend, we still didn't feel under serviced. The entire setting and backdrop of the mountains in Golden is beautiful and they have many fire pits and seating to fit all. We tried the chicken karage and thought that was great. Fun place to go with friends for a night out! Kind of what I'd expect an adult cafeteria or food court to be like - a wall of different beers and cocktails to choose from and various food options. Right when you walk inside, you register at the front desk. You give them your credit card, and they attach it to a Golden Mill card that you'll use to pay for everything inside. At the end, you drop your card in a little box on the wall by the exit, and they will automatically close you out and add on a 20% gratuity. Their beer wall is great for people looking for variety and those who are a bit more indecisive. Put your card in the scanner, and you can serve yourself as much or as little as you want. Want a taster? Buy an ounce. Only want half a glass? Done. Great if you want to try multiple drinks, or if you're just in the mood for a bit. They even had a couple good ciders, which is always a pleasant surprise. Lots of food options - Japanese, Mexican, BBQ, classic American. We tried their BBQ, and gotta say, I was a bit disappointed. Got the 2 meats plate with burnt ends and pulled pork. The burnt ends weren't nearly as flavorful or as soft as I'm used to. Their brisket chili was good, but the mac and cheese was a bit bland. Missed the mark a bit. But their ice cream. I love New Zealand style ice cream, and while it's not commonly found, they 100% have it here. So smooth, creamy, and delicious. Hand them a credit card as you walk in and they give you an access card to all of the taps on their tap wall. Forget that you are paying by the ounce and focus on the fact that you are now the bartender and can pour whatever you want, and drink as much as you want. Often when I watch videos on social media of what to do in Golden they recommend stopping at the Golden Mill, so I figured we go check it out! It's a great place to come with groups. There is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating and has two floors. It has a mini food hall feel since here are multiple different areas for food options. On the bottom floor there is Mexican, American food, and ice cream. On the top floor there is a Japanese restaurant. Both floors have taps of beers, though the first floor has much more options including cocktails and wine. I got the loaded fries and a wedge salad. Both were good! Might as well just try to look for parking on the street if available the parking for the Golden Mill is a few blocks away from the establishment. They've got lots of merch for sale on the first floor. The reason that I did not rate them higher is because their prices are high compared to if you were eating at another establishment. On top of that they have a 18% gratuity charge when everything is self-serve. I guess they are hoping people don't notice? Just seems pretty greedy. Unique location that works when everyone wants to eat something different and try drinks. They have indoor (that you can reserve for events?), outdoor, and upstairs seating where you can watch Clear Creek, hide under sails, and get misted on a hot day. From what I remember the majority is benches and stools so keep that in mind if you have a bad back or maybe try the rooftop (there is an elevator up if needed or two staircases) which I think had more back support. When you come in, check in at the counter with the merch right of the drinks and left of the ice cream/bbq/dog vending machine area to get your Golden Mills card- especially if you are getting drinks you may get a stamp as well. The drinks are only via GM card but the Japanese (and maybe other food places) station can be GM or card. It will tally throughout your trip and when you are done you can put the GM card in the box to tab out but if you forget all open tabs are closed at the end of the night. To get the drinks, there is a variety of glasses and there are two stations upstairs - with a smaller one- and downstairs with different drinks. For people that want to try a little bit of everything this drink system can be great! For better or for worse they swap out flavors as well so it may be different when you come back. Downstairs will usually have a couple of ciders, beer, and cocktails in addition to a coke machine. You place your card on the reader and pour how much or as little as you want--and you can even mix (I've added a bit of sprite to a cocktail) them. (Tip: don't forget the ice- it's free) Tip: with the coke machine it can be hard to get the card out but as long as you don't pour it doesn't count $. I've had a 0.00$ pop up on the machine too many times). Upstairs is the same process with different drinks. I believe they still had beers, cocktails and wines but for example they had the sake upstairs near the sushi vs downstairs. At the sushi place they have more variety of items but I've just created my own poke bowl. To do so take one of the dry erase markers with the leaves on it and mark up a laminated poke menu/menu and then get in line. They usually are around 20$ for me which depending on your poke experience can be normal-more expensive. The fish (tuna) has tasted fresh when I have gone and with nice flavors and textures. read more

The views are outstanding. There is a lot of space to sit/hangout with friends. They have a rooftop, indoor space, and patio. There are plenty of fire pits and heaters for the colder days. They make it super easy (maybe too easy) to pay for beer and food by linking your credit card to a golden mill card that you scan for beer/food. This is a must if you're in town. We stopped in to grab a bit to eat while biking on a trail that led us right to it. The concept is really neat it's essentially like a food hall and they have sushi, bbq, chicken, and ice cream. Not robot that they also sell merch! You get a card if you're going to be drinking which we didn't at that time but if you don't get a card order your food and pick a seat. The bbq was really good and so was the service. I just paid $30 for, unequivocally, the worst burrito I've ever had. First of all, it was huge - basically the diameter of the plate - and had sauce drizzled on top of it. So I knew it was going to be a messy pain to eat. And I wasn't boutta use utensils; I mean it's a burrito. Next, the burrito contents. It didn't feel like any of the ingredients had anything done to them. The tortilla wasn't grilled or anything. The ingredients seemed like they were taken out of a bag and just tossed straight into the burrito cold. And they were more like salad ingredients - cabbage, carrots, peas, maybe some spinach, plus normal stuff like rice and corn. Wth kinda tomfoolery is this?? On top of that, there was hardly any meat, and for the meat that was in there, it was the saddest carne asada I've ever seen. Just small bits of meat, not browned at all, maybe even boiled. It was a huge pain to eat, the contents would spill even if I tilted the thing at a slight angle, and the ingredients were just bizarre. I tried to finish the thing because I knew what I paid for it, but I literally felt like I was disrespecting myself by eating it and had to set the rest of it down. I'm sure the owner and employees are all great people, but this has got to be the worst burrito I've ever had. I was in a good mood because the sun had come out after a cloudy morning, but this legitimately put me back into a bad mood. I'd give 0 stars if I could, but I'll go with the 1 because the caramel churros were awesome. Thank god something was. Last year after we visited Golden, my partner came across a video on Instagram of the Golden Mill, and we were bummed we missed it. When we decided to come back to Denver, we knew we had to visit and it definitely did not disappoint. It's was busy but had plenty of seating. Seating is available outside along the river, inside, and on the rooftop and you choose your spot. You pour your own drinks and there is a wine, beer, ciders, seltzers, cocktails, and even Kombucha. The food was delicious, my favorite was from Rolling Smoke Bbq where I got a two meat and two side plate. My favorite was the burnt ends and the Texas toast! My partner enjoyed the fried plantains from Tacos Al Chile and the sushi from Sushi Sora. A lot of reviews I read were complaining about the 18% gratuity, but not only did they mention it, but there's a sign as well. The service (bussing and cleaning of the establishment), in my opinion, was worth it. I like to support businesses who provide all of their workers living wages. I was craving wings so we went to Republik of Chicken and got their chicken wings. I can't even explain the flavor but it was amazing! Creamy and robust, cooked perfectly, the sauce adhered to the wings and the chicken fell off the bone and they have the best blue cheese I've ever had. I need a whole tub of that stuff. The bbq joint was also amazing, we got the 1/2 lb of brisket and seasoned fries. Both were good, cooked well, and the bbq sauces were great. I've been to a few food halls, and haven't really liked them, so I was a little hesitant to come here. I'm glad I went because this was completely different than other food halls I've been to. If you want get away from the city and relax for a little bit in a very cool atmosphere, delicious food and friendly people... then this is your place to go. I've found The Golden Mill place while walking around Golden. People of Golden are so friendly and the whole spot is very inviting. I definitely spent a wonderful afternoon with an excellent sunset view and espectacular view from mountain M. Love it. I'll definitely come back again. read more

The Golden Mill is a super cute food hall in downtown Golden. They have so much outdoor patio space! We got lucky and snagged some stools upstairs so we could eat with a view of the river and mountains. You can buy and load a card to pay for food if you also plan to do the beer tap wall, but since we were just eating, we paid with a credit card. When ordering food, you give your number and they text you when it's ready! This place is great since there are so many different restaurants, it's easy to find something for everyone. I was hesitant to try sushi in Colorado (we are far from the ocean) but Sushi Sora had amazing vegetarian options! I ordered two rolls, as they were 6 pieces each: the veggie tempura and the fun guy roll. The veggie tempura had amazing light crunchy batter, and a variety of veggies including Japanese pumpkin! This roll needed a sauce in my opinion, so I got a side of spicy mayo. The fun guy roll was probably one of, if not the, best vegetarian sushi rolls I have ever had. It is so easy to be creative with vegetables and yet so many places are not. But Sushi Sora is very creative! The roll was a variety of chopped and roasted mushrooms that was in a very garlic forward sauce. It was so so so good. I highly recommend trying it if you like mushrooms! We also got ice cream at Happy Cones, which has New Zealand style ice cream. Basically, you have your vanilla base and then you choose which fruit you want blended into it. And they do not skimp on the fruit! It's like a less healthy smoothie almost. I got the mixed berries and it was so refreshing. read more

Sooo much fun to sit on the deck and watch the tubers go by in the summer. The barbecue was amazing. The dog friendly vibes were so cool. Everyone was having such a great time. Love this place. read more
