Poor service (the server could not remember our drink order and had to ask a second time. The host took us to a table that turned out to be very dirty. He then sat us elsewhere but never returned to the dirty table to clean it. Not until we were almost done eating did someone clean the mess. My chicken enchilada as a bit dry. Not a paid add. My food was @#$%& great!! I had a burrito supreme. Basically a smothered burrito with ground meat and beans. On top it had their famous green Chile, guacamole, sour cream, and tomatoes with a side if Mexican rice and beans. It it came out 2 mins after we ordered and was pipping hot. The flavors were fantastic and it was so filling. I wish I didnt eat so many chips ans salsa so I could have finished it without a belly ache. The chips and salsa were good too. Salsa has a bit of a kick but it was great. You can pick you spice level too which is great. The vibe is chill. Plenty of space in the restaurant. Service was super fast. My only complaint is it's a little $$$ but I would still go back because the food was so good! read more

My husband and I have visited this restaurant many times, and while the food was still good, it was noticeably below the quality we've experienced in the past. The refried beans were watery, and the overall execution felt inconsistent. Service was also lacking. It took two attempts for us to receive our house margaritas, and the frozen margarita I ordered was watery with no detectable tequila flavor, so I switched to wine. The wait staff tried to be helpful, but there simply were not enough employees to support the number of guests. We were initially seated at a table that had a large glob of queso on it. We were moved to another table, but what appeared to be the manager did not clean the original table; instead, they directed an already overworked staff member to handle it. The queso remained on the table for at least 30 minutes. This should have been addressed immediately by management. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we will not be returning. read more

Food is great but it is so loud inside that you can't have a conversation with your party. Even the waiter has a hard time hearing your order. Unless you're lucky enough to get a seat outside, I would pass on eating in the actual restaurant. Order take out, enjoy their delicious food at home. read more

We stopped here after an event at the CO School of Mines and I was wanting good carnitas and beans. My husband found this place and it didn't disappoint!! Staff were super friendly, we got there close to closing time, and they made sure we had everything we needed. The carnitas tacos were on point - just crispy enough for that crunch and still tender. Great service, and a nice atmosphere. You can tell the place is adored locally. The food was... okay. My son is a chicken quesadilla aficionado, and didn't finish his. I didn't know you could overdo it on cheese, but they did, and it was soggy, and not great. I had a bite, and it really was not good. The burrito was tiny. The chili had a little spice, but not much, but overall, the flavor just wasn't there. The tostada was good, and so were the chips and salsa. My previous review was 14 years ago and it was actually La Carreta at that time. We've started coming to El Dorado again for the past couple years and things have improved markedly. AND, the house margaritas are decent! The service is always friendly and the food comes out quickly! It's pretty tight seating inside (it was a little Dairy Queen when I was a kid) but they've expanded to add a nice outdoor seating area for the warmer months. It's great to have a decent little Mexican place right in town. read more

We were there today 1/31/2026, we had two Carne Asada plates! 1 med, 1 well done. It was the worst we've had, the quality of meat was to be desired, the young waitress didn't even ask once how the food was, they asked to remove our plates within a very short time of us getting the food. Sad to see this place go down hill. It used to be one of the best ones, don't get started on my drink. El Dorado is a hidden gem in Golden! We have been coming to this restaurant for years and it is our favorite Mexican food place! Every time we are here they are consistently good. I can tell that word has gotten out about it as every time we come here now it is packed and oftentimes on a little wait. It is worth it though. You have the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is really nice and beautiful. Although they can be very busy, we have always had really great service. The staff is so friendly and they all work together as a team. Even the manager is helping out the servers, which (as a server myself) is extremely nice to see! The food comes out quickly, is hot, and is consistently good. I have had everything from their breakfast burritos, tacos, margaritas, chimichangas, burritos, enchiladas, chile rellanos, green chile, carnitas place, etc. I have never had a bad meal here. You get the choice of mild, medium, or hot green chile. I can take a lot of spice and I think the medium is perfect. I love the chips and salsa that are served upon sitting down. The chips are warm and taste homemade. The salsa is extremely flavorful and the consistency is perfect...not too chunky and not too watery. The servers keep the chips and salsa full until the meal comes out which is nice. If you are in the Golden area, I highly recommend this place! (The only thing I wish was different is their hours. I wish they opened earlier and stayed open later). read more

Food, Service and Ambiance were good. Sadly, El Dorado has changed dramatically. Their prices are stunning and insulting: $25 for a fajita burrito, $11.35 for runny queso and $16.25 for a small shot of Casamigos. We typically have lunch here after a lovely hike in Golden. This is my family's favorite Mexican restaurant. We love sitting outside in the patio area. The staff and servers are really great.

A neighbor suggested going here for lunch today (7/15/21). My overall rating is somewhat generous based upon the following: 2 stars for the ambiance (the outdoor dining area was very noisy, we had difficulty carrying on a conversation. 2 stars for the service (although my neighbor and I ordered the special burrito, I ordered the mild and my neighbor ordered the medium heat, our waiter served us each the wrong heat level). I had to ask for water 3 times and was finally served by another wait staff member when I was finished with my lunch. 4 stars for the food: as mentioned, we both had the burrito which was delicious. It was served with guacamole and sour cream. The house margaritas were mediocre, I've had better and worse at other restaurants. Since I live nearby, I may order takeout in the future rather than dine in. read more

I really tried to find a reason to give this place a 4 star. We came here on on a Taco Tuesday; and they did not disappoint. Al Pastor, Carnitas, shrimp, and fish tacos. All very fresh and flavorful. The half price jalapeño margarita was on point! The salsa is one of the first things I look for, again, very flavorful. The thing that pushed this place over the top was the outside patio. CARNITAS TACOS! We happened upon this place because it was just a couple blocks away from the latest Shark Box Theater play and it sounded familiar because I had seen a coupon for this place in the ValPak (yeah, some people actually open those). Tip: Mountain Toad Brewery is just a couple of blocks away if you are looking for pre/post dinner brews. Honestly, everything we ordered was great. The large house margarita was a big challis (fishbowl sized). The chips were fresh and crispy and the salsa was quite nice. The tamales were great, with a nice, spicy pork filling. The green chile comes in three heat levels. Medium was fine for me (I like spicy, not face melt). But, I had mad entree envy when I saw my fella's Carnitas Tacos. He, likely unwillingly, shared those with me and they were out-fucking-standing. The carnitas were flavorful and just the right amount of crispy. Even the refried beans were creamy and wonderful. Tip: They have an extra hot salsa that they will bring you for your chips if you ask for it. It will melt your face. This place is great. They have a private lot and plenty of street parking. They are a bit off the beaten path (just a couple blocks from downtown Golden, without being in the traffic/parking challenge of downtown Golden). Love it! We will definitely be back. read more
