Food- 2 stars Service - 4 stars I really want to love and rave about this place because the people are so nice and friendly but the food is just okay and I've had better - heck I could make better tacos. Vegetarian tacos aren't on the menu but ask and they will make it. He didn't even look at me crooked when I asked for no meat. Haha First the tortillas are your standard boring flour tortillas from publix. Nothing homemade. Second, the onions and peppers were grilled, which I liked, but they lacked any real seasoning. I asked for avocado and it was browning already. Third, even the salsa didn't help the flavors. The other thing is this is supposedly a Latin market however there are literally two (2!) aisles of groceries. I've seen gas station convenient stores with more groceries. I didn't find what I needed for my recipe. Definitely more of a restaurant than a grocery although the only seating area is on some stools in the back. If you want to eat, get it to go. read more

I have heard about this place being authentic Mexican food. I came on recommendation from a friend. I'm not sure if it was it was this restaurant or that all authentic Mexican food was like this, but everything was incredibly bland. We started with Chips and Guacamole and the chips didn't taste very fresh and the Guac was very... I don't know.. watered down? I had 3 different tacos for my main course. Al Pastor (slow roasted pork), Chicken, Steak. All were $2 a piece and it tasted like it. The only halfway decent taco was the Al Pastor which actually had some flavor. When I have the hunger for Mexican food, I have several other places I would rather go. read more

I bought two pounds of barbacoa and a soup"consome" was a Saturday day and a brought at home and saved these food in the fridge, because I went to work this day. I came home ready to eat this food with my family, my surprise was the soup"consome" was uncooked vegetables and rice there and taste horrible. For sure they made more soup with the stalk and just added more vegetables and rice, because they don't wanted to waste money. So very be careful when you going to buy a soup "consome" I brought back all the food to the store restaurant and they gave me my money back. I told them why you sale your horrible food to the customer? Try your food and told what taste has? They called the police on me, I would never back there to buy something with these ugly people. Stopped by Las Palomas for the first time yesterday for lunch. It's located in a strip plaza on East Bay between Highland and Wurtz. This is an extremely clean and well-kept Mexican grocery with an adequate selection. But we were here for a quick taco. Ordering is at the counter, with tables by the front window to sit at. By local taqueria standards, this one is well decorated. The menu is fairly simple with burritos (4 styles), tacos, quesadillas, soups and salads. Meat choices are al pastor, chicken, carnitas and steak, and four meat choices is a bit limited compared to most other local taquerias. My guest ordered a chicken taco American style (flour tortilla, lettuce, tomato, mozzarella cheese, sour cream and salsa), and I ordered a fish taco and told the kind cook to fix it the way he likes best. In short order, he delivered our tacos to the table. My guest said her chicken taco was very flavorful and fresh tasting. The cook had prepared my fish taco with tilapia in a modified American style with flour tortilla, lettuce, mozzarella cheese and a condiment he made from sour cream, mayo, sour orange, lime and just a bit of olive oil to thin it all all out. I tasted the taco as is, and the tilapia was cooked perfectly, and the rest of the flavors blended very well. The taste of the condiment was excellent, but I need a bit of heat on my tacos so I loaded it with an excellent red salsa he prepares as well. All in all, an excellent fish taco, in a town were fish tacos are not common. Las Palomas' tacos are priced at $2, which is about right for the area, but an excellent value considering the quality and freshness. Hopefully I'll get back to try the other taco meats soon. The man at the deli counter takes your order quickly an efficiently. I have to say that I was very impressed with their familiarity with vegetarianism! A lot of Mexican joints I've been to just flat out don't understand the concept of being a vegetarian. Very authentic Mexican food. The tacos are good. They come with lime and fresh cilantro and 2 corn tortillas. I had the al pastor pork taco and it was good. Not the best I've ever had, but good. The chicken burrito I had was not so good. Long pieces of white and grey chicken with no seasoning and canned pinto beans.
