Okay hear me out. When we 1st arrived, we were very skeptical. It's obvious the resort has not been maintained as well as it could be since it opened it's doors. They are in serious need of a paint job and pressure wash. Had I rated upon arrival, my husband and I would prob have given it a 2 star rating. But there was a printed disclaimer letting patrons know the resort is currently under construction and we saw clear signs that parts of the resort were being updated and repaired. Also, I swear the longer we stayed the more charming it got!
The scoop: WiFi is free up to 2 devices per room. They will give you a code at check-in and it will work best early in the morning or very late at night because Baja resorts just don't invest much in their WiFi for patrons.
There IS wheel chair and disabled persons access ground floor with ramps and close parking.
There is no elevator. We stayed on the 4th floor and I love stair climbs to stay fit, so I wasn't complaining. My husband has 13 screws in his foot from an old injury so he wasn't too thrilled, but it wasn't a major issue for us.
You get 1 welcome margarita per adult guest. We had to get the voucher from the front desk. We wanted to drink
ours by the pool, so they put them in plastic cups for us and we watched the sunset poolside while we sipped. It was great.
If your purchase includes breakfast, it only applies to American breakfast (you have 4 options) and you need to get a new breakfast voucher from the front desk each morning of your stay. Just give room number and name. Tip: On the weekends, pay the difference of $3 USD and upgrade to all you can eat buffet, with fresh made tortillas, omelette bar, pancakes, French toast, and authentic Mexican food options like menudo, chilaquiles and Chile rellenos, fruit and pastries. We enjoyed the food and and staff was friendly and attentive.
There are 2 Pools. Party pool is the infinity pool. It has 2 jacuzzi's, a DJ on the weekends and anyone not staying at the resort can come enjoy the pool, which means it gets quite busy, they just can't use the lounge chairs, which are reserved for guests only (and could also be cleaned a little more often), but they are welcome to bring their own towels and lay out on the mAny grassy areas all around the grounds. The other pool is calmer and better for enjoying romantic sunset watching.
There are 3 jacuzzi's. One with working jets and no heat, 2 with heat and no jets, lol. Pick your poison.
The Taco Bar, we were disappointed to learn, is only open for the Summer, so it was closed 2 weeks before the time of our booking. That would have nice to know ahead of time.
If you're still with me, here's why you should give this place a chance:
1. Charm factor-the ocean views from each room. The rooms are all spacious and saltillo tiled with authentic, rustic styled furniture and their own private balcony. No carpet and no broken furniture that we saw. When service was requested using the door tag, towels and TP, facial tissue, shampoo and lotion were replenished, no special request needed. (The fan was old but it wasn't too hot when we we stayed so we didn't try to use it. We had the slider open one night to let the breeze in and no mosquitoes swarmed in, but our neighbors started smoking so we had to close it.)
2. Adventure - There are 2 stair cases leading down to the Beach on each side of the resort. At your own risk. We are adventurous and love exploring so we went down and navigated the tide pools to check out hermit crabs, fish, sea anemones, even sea slugs and the little waterfall.
3. The Palapa bar/restaurant - the little private lounge below the restaurant for spectacular ocean views was a surprise hidden gem. The food was good, and after 7pm, the seating along the railing under the lights while the live music plays was really romantic and enchanting as well.
All in all, even though there are many upgrades needed, this place has plenty going for it, and we would stay again. And who knows? Maybe more of those upgrades will be completed by then. read more
