The sauce paired with it created such a rich and flavorful combination -- definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Everything tasted elevated and beautifully prepared. This makes me even more excited to come back to Ensenada and continue exploring more exquisite 5-star dining experiences. The food scene here is seriously amazing. Ojo Azul in Valle de Guadalupe is a really lovely spot for a romantic, peaceful getaway. The hotel has a unique charm; it includes a small winery, a restaurant, and even a cave cellar you can go wine tastingin, which was honestly one of the coolest parts of the experience. It definitely feels like a special place that's more about relaxing and enjoying the wine country vibes than doing anything busy or fast-paced. The rooms are separate from each other, so it feels very private and quiet.. Perfect if you're looking to disconnect and have a calm weekend away... Our room was clean and had plenty of space... The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the shower was roomy... They also have a refrigerator stocked with Their in house wine bottles you can choose from, which adds a fun touch... The property has a pool and spa area, but just keep in mind it's communal, there aren't private hot tubs or private spa setups in the rooms... Still, everything was well-maintained and relaxing... Pricing felt reasonable compared to other hotels in Valle, especially for how nice and comfortable everything was... One thing to note: Valle de Guadalupe is very spread out. This isn't a place to stay if you want nightlife or to be within walking distance of multiple wineries. You'll definitely need to drive to get around, and some of the roads are unpaved... The host was also extremely welcoming.. We arrived late after hours, and they were still available at the front desk, answered all our questions, and made us feel really comfortable... We got there by dusk and the receptionist didn't called anyone to helped us with the luggage or find our cabin ( discrimination maybe?) When we made the reservation we asked for a sofa bed but when we were there we couldn't opened so we called four times to reception desk for help and she never answered our call. Then my daughter called to the restaurant and finally a guy came and helped us,by the way no sheets no blanket less pillows for the sofa bed. Weren't coming back to that place. I hosted my wedding at Ojo Azul last week. To start Raul & Evelyn from day 1 were unbelievably amazing to work with. They helped me coordinate all the vendors, contracts, fees in Spanish. I do not even speak Spanish and they made, what would have been super stressful process an amazing one. They helped me for months. They always got back to me in a timely mannor. They made suggestions that worked out better than I would have planned. Always happy, helpful, positive and easy to deal with. We at at Ojo Azul's Almatierra restaurant around noon, blending their breakfast and lunch menus. The food was excellent overall. We started with the fantastic borrego tatemado and realized we were in for a treat. After that we moved on to a couple of dishes from the Comida menu. Smoked fish salpicon was great, with bright acidity, good balance, and great tortilla chips. The soft-shell crab was less successful - a beautiful dish, but needed acidity. While it looked like a generous amount of grab, it tasted more of stewed carrot that was mixed-in than the crab. We'd definitely be happy to come back, this was an excellent surprise. read more

For anybody that is planning a wedding or an event this is the place to do it at. My husband and I had three events here at Ojo Azul Resort. We had our 10 year anniversary dinner, Barbeque by the pool, and a brunch buffet style at the new glam room they built on property for all the girls to get ready in. This was all possible by the event team on property who are Raul Moreno and Evelin Reyna. They were hands down the best team to work with, they listened to the ideas I had and what I envisioned for all three events. This team was able to get the decoration I wanted and also provide the connections for music. I can truly say that this team will get it done and will make any event magical. Thank you Raul and Evelin, please know I will be back for future events. Also the staff on property, they will go above and beyond for you. Karina was the person that was taking care of all of our reservations for all our family and friends and made sure all my guests were able to stay on property. Spent our anniversary here and spent the night on our first time to Valle.. food was amazing, everyone working there was friendly and hustled, wine tasting was a bit different than normal in Temecula and it was all explained in detail about the joys and tastes in a wine. OMG what a fabulous weekend we just had with our whole family and wedding party!!! Cannot say enough about the staff who are so friendly, accommodating and go above and beyond to make your experience in the region unforgettable. The atmosphere and ground are so welcoming, beautiful and relaxing. We also had our rehearsal dinner and Welcome Cocktail Hour for our wedding party and guests there the night before the wedding at the restaurant and terrace bar. The food was exceptional and amazing, probably the best meal we had in the Valle. We also used the spa services the day after the wedding and the facilities and staff were professional. We loved vibe, very chill ambiance, music and fun family friendly atmosphere. We only stopped by to have some drinks! I tried the tamarindo and the mango margaritas. They were so good but my favorite was the tamarindo one. We also ordered some flan, it wasn't my favorite but I liked that it had caramel flavored popcorn on the top. The whole resort is very beautiful, and they offer a lot of amenities/activities. I recommend you not stay here as they have unethical business practices. We arrived during a storm, and our room nearly flooded. The property was severely flooded in many areas, including a large pond at the entrance to the parking lot. While I don't blame them for the situation, I hold them responsible for offering a safe space. We unequivocally felt unsafe and decided to leave a night early from our reservation. After five attempts to resolve this through Hotels.com and an unanswered email to the hotel directly, we received word from Hotels.com that the hotel was holding firm to their "cancellation policy" and chose to fleece us instead of doing what was fair. A deeply disappointing experience I wouldn't wish on anyone. read more

This spot was a great find. I wasn't familiar with the area and booked it on photos. It was the perfect ambiance for a couple or to hangout with friends. They had a pool and a great atmosphere. This review is primarily for the restaurant at the Ojo Azul resort, Almatierra. Ojo Azul itself appears to be a new event hosting space and hotel. I spoke to staff who advised that they would host their first wedding this March. There is construction ongoing, and when finished it appear they'll have several large stone terraces and plenty of event space. The resort does have cottage-type rooms for guests, which appear to be recently open. There will apparently be a pool and spa at some point as well. There are beautiful views of the surrounding countryside throughout the resort. There is also a very elegant wine cellar for private gatherings. The restaurant, Almatierra, is fully open and offers Mexican and Baja Med cuisine. The menu has seasonal and local seafood dishes, as well as your standard cuts of meat (ribeye, etc.) and other chicken and pork entrees. I tried the borrego (lamb) stew, and it was decent but not spectacular. The octopus with huitlacoche risotto was good and tender, and probably the highlight of the menu. Others in the party had the fish of the day and mentioned that it was undercooked. Service was good, so no complaints there. All in all, I would give Almatierra four stars, but for the prices. This is an expensive restaurant, with most dishes costing $20 or more. I understand that the Valle is getting more and more expensive with the growing influx of tourists, but still a $20 plate in this area should be outstanding, and the dishes here are not. Also, the portions are small, for the most part. I don't think I'd return here, at least not for dinner. Maybe for cocktails once the resort is finished. read more

This place, like most places in Valle, is really cool. It has an easygoing feel to it. The staff is very attentive and cordial. The decor is modern and fun. It is extremely clean and comfortable. I ordered a coffee americano which was hot and very strong. I like it like that. I also ordered chilaquiles with mole which were excellent. Rich flavors and made with love. I would recommend this place. One concern is the very bumpy dirt road to get here can be harsh especially if it has rained. There are quite a bit of holes on the road which become large waterholes. Such a beautiful property! We definitely felt safe being there and it was beautifully decorated and comfortable. The food was good and the vibe was great too. The pool is open for late swimming and the dancing and bar were going until midnight. A great location in the Valle as well- it's pretty central. Check in was easy and fairly quick. Now why the 4-stars? A couple different reasons... it was pretty pricey. We definitely paid American prices when I would have expected a lot more for what we paid. The room was $300, plus we had to pay an extra $30 for the pup (which at that price they should have at least provided some additional perks for the dog), and my fiancé got a basic cocktail that cost $15! No fridge in the room, or an ice bucket/wine opener. I mean, aren't we in wine country? Several things just seemed to fall a litttttle short that's all. Overall great experience though and the staff was awesome. I would stay here again, but at least I know what to expect at this 4-star hotel. read more

My husband and I just stayed here for our honeymoon expecting at least a decent resort experience and we received just the opposite. The place is little off the beaten path and is pretty small. When we arrived in the evening we were told upon check in that there are no outside food or drinks permitted at the resort and that if we wanted to drink we had to run to their bar and order quickly (it was 7:55) because the restaurant closes at 8. WOW. What angered me the most about this situation is that you will not find this information listed anywhere on the Hotels.com listing. We tried to work with this unfortunate setback and decided to order two drinks each and jump in the jacuzzi that closes at 10. When we arrived in our bathing suits at 9 pm there was caution tape around the jacuzzi and it was closed. So basically every romantic amenity was unavailable upon arrival. May I mention that there are also no tubs in the rooms. The last straw was the next day. We had booked a local certified mobile massage that would come to our room and help us relax since the resort options had proven to be limited. They'd been there before and according to the guest services rules there was no policy against this. We received a phone call from management refusing to allow them access because the resort had just begun spa services. NOWHERE WERE THE RESORTS SPA SERVICES LISTED ONLINE UPON US BOOKING OR I WOULD HAVE BOOKED! So my husband literally argued about everything we'd be through since we started our stay at this joke of a "resort". The manager replied that their jacuzzi was open the night before and persisted to tell my husband that we were mistaken... basically that we were lying. That's the customer service we received. No, "we're so sorry about these interruptions you've experienced", her reply verbatim was "Well what do you want me to do about it?". I'm not going to name call but it is clear that this place hasn't established any professionalism and needs major help. It seems the pandemic hurt them and they're really pinching for pennies with their guests. I regret not booking at El Cielo. Don't go through what we went through. *I'm leaving 2 stars instead of one because one of the bartenders makes a mean margarita and our breakfast (not included) was good. read more

My partner and I were really looking forward to staying here for part of our anniversary trip. We unfortunately had a death of a very dear family member and had to cancel our trip. I contacted the hotel as soon as I found out, which was a full 13 DAYS before our scheduled check in, and was told that I would be charged the full amount ($950 USD) because cancellations need to be 14 DAYS prior to check in. Unfortunately with our work schedules we can't take anymore time off for vacation so the "rebook within 6 months" offer simply isn't an option for us. I have NEVER seen a cancellation policy that requires that much advanced time. And there was ZERO compassion from the staff about our reason for needing to cancel. I could provide a death certificate, obituary, and proof of travel plans to and from the funeral out of state. I have since not heard a word back from the staff after multiple attempts to get in touch. Be warned that they will still charge you the full amount if you have to cancel even one day later than their cancellation policy even for extenuating circumstances like these. read more

This place is definitely not worth the money at all. We've been moved to three different rooms since arriving. First smelled like raw sewage which they dump directly onto their grapes. It's a beautiful night out but I can't open any windows without the smell of sewage making me want to vomit. They play super loud music at night. All the rooms face the restaurant, which is where the stage is for the bands and then the people that play / project SO LOUDLY the music after the band leaves. We slept horribly Friday night and on Saturday night at 10 pm, I asked when the band would be done they said 10:15. The band ended and then they continued to BLARE music thru midnight. Ridiculous. I won't EVER stay here again, it's a joke and not a place to relax at all. read more

Booked hotel on Monday 5/30 came down with covid and had to cancel our 1 night on Monday May 30 was told I can't cancel they had a 14 day cancellation. NOTE: This review is for the resort restaurant, Almatierra. Did not stay at the resort. Dined at Almatierra for lunch and overall was okay. Food was decent and beautifully plated though their mushroom soup was a bit bland. Atmosphere was beautiful though our server could have been a bit more friendly. I would have rated the place higher but the negative experience came from how they handled the bill. They charged me twice -- first for the amount without tip and then again for the amount with the tip. I waited a few days to see if the bank would clear one of the charges but they actually both went through on my credit card. When I contacted the restaurant they gave me a run-around about how one charge was a presale and the other was a real charge and they had no record in their accounting department that two charges went through. I explained that it actually wasn't a double charge, but two different charges for two different amounts for the same dining experience. Over 10 days later I'm still waiting for them to clear up the matter and now they are no longer returning my messages. I've now had to submit a dispute with my bank. Total pain in the butt and pretty fraudulent if you ask me. Advice to diners from the US - have them charge you for the dining experience but leave your tip in cash. read more
