In town for a training, and this place was highly recommended by my instructor. This is a small Mexican grocery, which also sells a large variety of authentic, freshly made, reasonably priced Mexican food. I was told typically take out orders are relatively fast. We came with a larger group of eight and dined in, so it took a little bit of time before we got our food. I had empanadas, guacamole with freshly made tortilla chips, and al pastor tacos and everything was delicious. They also have Mexican drinks and paletas, as well as a variety of grocery items. Will definitely be back. Very friendly service. a small parking lot in front of the store. I only wish they also delivered but definitely 5/5 and the best meal in town.

This food is fantastic and if it was located where I live I would go here once or twice a month. It's better than any Mexican food I've had in Northern Virginia or DC by a longshot. I ate at another Mexican restaurant in downtown Blackstone, and there was no comparison to this. They get busy during weekdays around dinner time, so the wait can be long, but it's worth it. If you get a 4 taco plate, they will let you get two different types of tacos (2 each), but you can't have four or three different taco types. I assume their salsas are made in-house. I particularly liked the hot green salsa. The guacamole is also fantastic and the chips served warm, also likely made in-house. My dining companions were all really happy with their orders. There isn't much ambiance. There are a few tables in the back of the grocery store, and people may need to share tables during busy times, but you can also order to go. I stopped for guacamole to take home on my way out of town.

Absolutely a hidden gem in Blackstone, Virginia! It offers the finest and most authentic Mexican cuisine I've ever experienced.

Between two people, we ordered drinks and Billy's seafood platter to share, which consisted of shrimp that you can choose the style of, fried cod and catfish, with hush puppies and cole slaw. We got the bang bang shrimp and they were on point. They were definitely our favorite thing on this platter with the size, texture, and flavor all hitting the mark. The two sides hush puppies and cole slaws were also good. The two fried fish was a little underwhelming, with the cod being a little under-seasoned and dry. The catfish was seasoned well and soft but had that sort of slightly fishy flavor to it. I liked having multiple sauces both on the platter and the table (there were a bunch of different bbq sauces, which I'm sure go better with their meat offerings) - the butter and the zing of the North Carolina hot sauce were our top two sauces of the meal. Definitely enough food for two people but I wish there was a bit more on there than just the cole slaw to suppress the greasiness of the fried fish. Service was great and they have a good sized parking lot as well. Can't say anything about their bbq since we had the fish platter but as soon as you get to the parking lot, you can smell the fire going!

Because it was the best part of the experience, I'll start with the service. This place is…read morewell-staffed (arguably overstaffed) and so service was quick and attentive. The entire staff was friendly, professional, and customer forward. The ambiance was great - lighthearted but professional. The dining area was very clean and the room was warm and well lit with natural light which made the space feel even cleaner and more inviting. The staff all had matching shirts (it was cinco de mayo so it's possible it was celebratory rather than the norm but it carried well either way) Now to the food. The food was enjoyable. It didn't wow me, but I definitely enjoyed my meal. The chips and salsa were on point. The flavor of the rice and beans were better than many others. The beef taco and enchilada were flavorful enough but had it not been for the salsa from the chips that I ended up adding, it would have been mediocre at best. But here's the thing... the value was not there. The food is overpriced. What you see in the photo was a $20 meal before tip - and his was the cheapest offering on their lunch menu. (The plate was $13 and the side of beans, $5) I had a water otherwise, I would've been closer to $25 for sure. So overall, a good experience. Good food, very good service, very clean and welcoming but the value was the biggest dent in the experience. I'm willing to go back and try other items onto the menu but I'm prepared now. Bring a little extra dinero.

You truly get more than what you pay for, which is hard to find these days. When I first came around 5 pm, there wasn't anyone there, but be warned: as it gets later, it gets busier! I think the time I went was the sweet spot; the turnaround from when I ordered my food to when it arrived at my table was about 20 minutes. My server, Josue, was personable, attentive, and kind; he definitely added to the overall experience! He mentioned that he is also the bartender and would be taking on the role as server as well and to bear with him, but he did not miss a beat. Overall, worth the visit for the food, value, and atmosphere!
