There were 2 parts to the Basic Pistol Safety Course. There was classroom time and range time. David and Joey was very thorough with the information that they taught during the classroom time. They did so good that it made everyone feel confident that they can pass the test at the end of the classroom time and everyone did pass! David and Joey was also very good instructors during the range time. We were able to shoot at different distances. During the shooting, we were able to pick and choose which pistol we want to shoot. I was very pleased that they had a Glock 19 because that is the pistol that I'm looking to get in the future and was glad that I was able to get a feel for it. We did not have a good experience here :(…read more First of all, finding this location put us on guard. The neighborhood is sketch. According to their website, $50 membership is required. This establishment typically has customers that bring their own firearm so then there is a lane fee of $25. Also on their website, they offer a discount on the lane fee if you go a certain day, certain time, and show your Hawaii ID. Well we went there meeting all three criteria but didn't get the discount as advertised. Kinda sucked but oh well. After we signed the required forms, the guy had us pick out the target sheets we wanted. Then we were required to watch a safety video, which we couldn't hear loud and clear because of people talking around us. The employee then told us about the two door entry way to the lanes and being mindful not to let the noise get into the showroom. We picked a lane and laid our rifle bag on the bench. Strangely, the bench started rolling forward into the lane which didn't seem safe so we moved to another lane. We got our firearms situated on the bench that didn't roll and then tried to hang our target sheet but it was missing a clip and the cardboard was very worn, so we moved to another lane. There were empty shells all over the floor, maybe we were expected to sweep up after others but no one said anything. We shot up all the ammunition we purchased and then we were so ready to leave, disappointed. Of all the discrepancies, the main reason for this 1 star review was an intentional hazard caused by a young employee with arrogance. From the moment we walked into the showroom, he did not want to serve us. Since the only other employee was already with a customer, this young guy reluctantly came to our lane when I asked him nicely to show us loading our new shotgun. After he loaded the shotgun, he left the range. It wouldn't shoot so I went back to the showroom to look for him. As if he KNEW that something bad would happen, the young guy was NOWHERE to be found. So I waited patiently for the only other employee to finish his customer. Guess what, the shotgun shell was jammed! The older employee needed to retrieve a tool from the showroom to safely dislodge it! God forbid an explosion happened. To the young guy who loaded the shotgun incorrectly and intentionally caused risk of harm, I pray for you. Whatever causes your arrogance and ill intent, may God release you from all that and forgive you. This is not the kind of business that needs bad employees. We do not want anything like this dangerous episode to happen to anyone. We did not enjoy this experience. There was a serious lack of personnel and communication. We were put in an unsafe situation.

I was able to shoot a variety of guns, which is very useful as I now get to go and buy one, and had all of my questions answered (Regarding ownership, laws, etc) in a way that was actually easy to understand, as opposed to the way the state presents it. I must say that I'm glad we did, and these guys are great! We just finished the basic handgun safety course, and it was excellent! They covered all the basics of loading and operating firearms, safety, and laws. The classroom time is very informative, and the range time is great. We got to practice with a bunch of different firearms ranging from .22 to .45, and a bunch in between. The NRA certified instructors are very friendly, helpful, and know their stuff, You can tell that they love and believe in what they're doing. HDF is also working to help maintain and improve ownership and usage rights in Hawaii, and as an organization they have range days where the whole group will gather and enjoy some private range time. With completion of the course you're not only given your affidavit certifying completion of the course, but you become an HDF member for the year. I'm looking forward to taking full advantage of this membership, and see what else HDF has to offer!

Some places make you feel like you don't belong if you ask questions. That's not the case here at all. I walked in with no experience, and they took the time to help me understand everything. I left not only with the right parts and modifications for my AR-15, but they even installed everything for me. Since then, I haven't gone anywhere else. Their knowledge, professionalism, and willingness to help are unmatched. I also purchased an FCU for my SIG P320 from them they were the only shop on the island that had one, and they priced it fairly without trying to overcharge. I've bought hundreds of rounds of ammo from them as well, always at great prices--some of the best I've seen on the island. Most recently, I purchased a CZ Shadow 2 Compact, and it arrived on island in just two days. What really sets them apart is how well they educate their customers. They took the time to fill in my knowledge gaps and made sure I fully understood the pistol before buying it. That level of service is rare. Better range than most ranges I've been to! Also more convenient. Half of the time I go out to a…read morerange I'm standing around waiting for the range to go hot (clear to fire). We showed up on this range, got our safety brief and were clear to for at max 20 mins as oppossed to waiting for 4 hours at other ranges. The terrain on the ranges is pretty smooth with few big rocks or pebbles so there's not much of a risk of injury if there's a need to run down the ranges. In general it looks really well maintained as far as all of the appliances, shooting tables, sitting benches, and target stands. This range can accommodate 80 shooters, two at each table. Much better, convenient and safer than the overseas ranges.

The personnel running the range are retired military and have a tendency to be very unprofessional. The absolute worst part of this range is the "PIT Service", if you can even call it that. They scream and yell profanity and threaten to kick you off the range for the smallest of discretions. The price for a Gatorade or Monster is highway robbery and if they could charge me for water they would. Which by the way they ran out of water the other day, talk about alot of planning.
