4 months ago my daughter got me to try Southern Crave on a Sunday afternoon on a whim, so we went. I was excited about the oxtails that day but they were out so I got flounder. I left a 3 review then and the owners contacted me. It's been 4 months and I just made it back. Glad I did! They had the oxtails and I'll be back for them again. My daughter got the grilled cheese with oxtails and she loved it. It's full of oxtail. We got fried okra Mac n cheese and collards as our side dishes. Nicole was super kind when we came in, we waited in the car for our food and it was ready early so she brought it out to us. I know that's not a usual service but she had the time, thanks Nicole. Let's start with the service. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted. I had a few questions and they answered swiftly and kindly. Appreciated that. It's a pick up location that is clean and well maintained. Now, the main attraction, the food. Those smoked oxtails made me want to turn around and order a full pan of them! They were tender, flavorful, and saucy. The seafood Mac and cheese had the right amount of cheese and you could enjoy the seafood! The lamb chops, cooked medium, were cooked to perfection. Flavor was through and through. The yams needed a little sauce for me, but they were still flavorful. I am coming back to Columbia JUST to revisit this place forsure! Someone recommended Southern Crave to me for their Brisket grilled cheese. The sandwich did not disappoint. Brisket was lean, tender and full of flavor. For my side I chose the collard greens, they were not bad, but the flavor competition was tough next to the sandwich. This was an office lunch order, those who chose not to participate were full of regret. Which leads me to today's lunch, the Brisket Mac and Cheese. Same phenomenal flavor on the brisket but intensified with more deliciousness when scattered into their creamy mac and cheese. This was a side item, but I chose it as my lunch. I went on a Sunday right after they opened so it wasn't too busy but if you come later be prepared to wait bc the crown definitely came! I heard about this place and the quality of food from social media which was my first mistake. I have never been more disappointed than I was today. The young lady at the front is very sweet however the order was not correctly taken. Gas is $4 a gallon for any back and forth considering I'm traveling 19miles. Not to mention I originally waited 50 minutes. From the looks Mac and greens were dry. Also the portion size of the Big crave is not worth the $34 price. A wasted trip! read more

a gem of a spot to get southern food in NE! now it's the south and every claims to have the best of everything but let me tell y'all, without a shadow of a doubt, their food SLAPS! i had the fried chicken platter with the mac n cheese and candied yams. when i tell yall EVERYTHING was seasoned to perfection! the chicken was crispy and juicy. the mac and cheese was CHEESY and the noodles were flavorful. the yams had just enough texture to them. if i could give this 100 stars i would. chris (owner) and his team do a great job of providing not just quick service but a friendly atmosphere as well. this is a to go establishment so there's no seating but the decor is bright and welcoming. lastly, we sampled some of the oxtail and when i tell y'all they were out of this world! not everyone can make oxtails. these were smoked and seasoned to PERFECTION! will definitely be coming back and getting that next time. read more

This is a hidden gem and so glad it's on my side of town! Keep in mind that this is a To-Go concept so don't expect for a full service sized building with seating but the food is DELICIOUS!! The ambiance when you walk in is simple yet bright. We walked in and didn't have to wait long before it was our turn which says a lot about their friendly service. The wait time was not bad either for the amount of food we ordered! The prices were extremely reasonable for the amount of food you get, which is a big thing for our family. My niece was visiting from Kansas, so I took her there as an example of SC soul cooking. She loved the wings & greens. The smoked oxtails were among the best I've had. We also agreed the mac and cheese beat out Lizard's Thicket and Ronnie's Ribs. At first I thought the oxtails were a little high, but since they dished out enough beef for 3 meals it wasn't so high after all. The seafood mac & cheese contained real crab (not "Krab") but I didn't encounter any shrimp. Very good dessert selection on the day we visited, but another time selection was skimpy. It's take out only, with no seating. You either stand there and wait the 15 or 20 minutes, or wait in your car, then go check after time's elapsed. This location is somewhat hidden on Hardscrabble Road, but, not enough to be called out on the beaten path. But, I digress. The first time and only time that I visited this location was 1 week ago (18 October 2024) and I ordered Oxtails, Macaroni and Cheese and Collard Greens. The total was $28.00 dollars including .75€ for using my debit card. The side items were quite tasty, but, the main entree (the oxtails) was not falling off the bone tender and had a peculiar smell that overshadowed the taste which made me investigate the reason. After looking at the menu it lists the Oxtails as "smoked". Unfortunately, the smell and the seasoning made the total experience a sad one. If the food was pleasant and delicious the $28.00 charge would have been justified, but, that was not the case. My journey to find a delicious, tasty and succulent Oxtail meal is ongoing. Sadly, Southern Crave didn't fit the bill. read more
