Searched restraints in the area and we came for lunch based on reviews. It was very spacious inside and not that busy so we were seated quickly. After our server came to take our drink orders more people started coming. There was even a group of ladies for a bay shower in a different section. The menu had plenty great options. I decided on the fish platter and my friend got the chicken sandwich. I couldn't decide between the greens or green beans so I asked the waiter, and he recommended the greens. 6 o'clock on the Saturday after thanksgiving, we arrived and were worried it was closed, the parking lot was pretty empty. But luckily, they were open for business, and a good business at that. Our family all got waffles: chocolate chip, red velvet, and sweet potato, with impossible chicken, traditional chicken breast, and bacon. Y'all. Y'all. So tasty. All of it. The flavor upgrades of the waffles have extra shebang additions, which aren't obvious in the menu, worth asking about. R&B was playing in the open space, which, by the time we left, was bustling. First time here. I'm visiting with a large group from out of town. I ordered the shrimp and grits with a half waffle on the side. I didn't realize the shrimp and grits came with a biscuit! Was very good and was freshly made and very hot! So I ate the half waffle first. It came with a pat of butter and ate it with the syrup on the table. Had flavors to try of the waffle but I opted for the plain Belgian waffle. My friends all enjoyed their food and hated we all had to deport soon after. The staff was friendly and wanting to make sure you had a good meal. I want to give a shot out to Cassandra I believe the bartender she helped place my order and gave me a recommendation on what sides to choose. I also overheard her make take multiple calls and help staff member and customers. She handled all with grace and professionalism even if she was doing multiple at once. My only dislike was the cheap plastic silverware, while everything else was regular plates and cups. But don't you know the pork chops were tender enough to cut through even with plastic! Every single other food item was DISGUSTING!! The fish was so nasty. It was salty and soggy. The grits tasted like water. It was awful and super white. No butter/salt or anything. I'm from Charleston and was raised on grits. This is the nastiest grits I have EVER had!! The waiter told us the grits are always nasty, once I sent them back. The restroom. It was DISGUSTING!!!!! The toilet seat was off of the bowl. It smelled like death in there. I used it prior to ordering our food. We should have left then. The floor was wet (in the stall) and sticky toward the sink. Seven of our ROMEO lunch group went here yesterday for lunch. Only one of us had previously eaten at Kiki's, so it was a new experience for the group. Each of us orders a different entree. Smothered Pork Chops, Smothered Chicken, Fish Sandwich, Soul Food Chicken dinner, Chicken Sandwich, Shrimp and Grits and a Chicken and Waffle dinner. Upon entering at 11:30 there seemed to be a "musty" smell, almost as if someone had just mopped the floor. That was our first impression. We were seated and our waiter moved tables to accommodate the group. He was prompt, friendly and very courteous. He took and remembered our orders from memory and didn't miss a beat! The food was great. Every single one of. us gave the restaurant a rating of 4.5 with the exception of the fish sandwich, which was given a 4.0. The smothered chicken and pork chops filled the whole plate with mash potatoes and gravy and both guys really liked it. The chops were very tender and he didn't even need a knife. He said he would've given it a 5.0 if it would''ve been served with a biscuit or bread. The Smothered chicken guy could only eat half the potatoes, as it was a large amount. The Shrimp and Grits were excellent. The Chicken sandwich and Fish Sandwich both came with a large amount of French fries. The Chicken Soul food dinner was ordered with okra and collards and he said it was great. I ordered the Chicken and waffle. I've only had Chicken and Waffles once down in Charleston at a Diner's, Drive-in and Dive restaurant that was said to be very good. I didn't care for it there and I really didn't want to order it at Kiki's because of that. The waiter recommended it so I thought I'd give it a try. It had a nice sized Belgian like waffle and two boneless chicken breast. I was totally surprised at the chicken. It had a very thin crust (unlike Zestos and most other "southern fried" chicken). It was crisp and the seasoning was fabulous. Very tasty...lots of salt and pepper but not too salty. Some of the best I've had and also very moist. My 12 years old son and I just visited Forward City Church and we were looking for a good brunch spot. We stumbled upon Kikis Chicken Waffles. It was a very short wait even though the resturant was pretty full. At first, we were not happy because the table were we sat, was not wiped down. We were in the area and passed by this location throughout the week. Finally decided to give it a try our last day in Columbia. Upon our arrival, the young male hostess wasn't happy and expressed as much. In the midst of our small talk, while waiting for a table, he stated he would rather be at school instead of at work. No smile or anything, just here is your seat, plastic silverware and your server will be here shortly. Fast forward, wanted to leave at this point as the entire place seemed very dreadful, lacked cleanliness and smelled as such. I tried to chalk the unpleasant smell up with maybe it was from the restrooms, as we were seated nearby them in the back. Ugh! Either way it was AWFUL! The tables were clearly in need of cleaning or maybe a complete overhaul! Maybe invest in disposable table sheets or something. Plastic utensils are their choice of cutlery. Imagine trying to eat a steak with plastic utensils. SMH However, a guest in our party managed after his steak was finally prepared edible. The first attempt, the steak was still kicking. The chicken was seasoned but some pieces were a bit dry and overcooked. The waffles were very bland! This was a major let down, as this is your signature dish. Fish & grits...grits were BLAND, Smothered pork chops over rice & gravy and a side of Mac n cheese....BLAND, well the gravy was. Mac n cheese was okay but dry. The pork chops were tasty but had a lingering aftertaste. It reminded me of the ranch dip seasoning people use to make pot roast, but at least it tasted like something. Now the fried chicken!! - DELICIOUS. I think that's were all the seasoning went. So good and fried well! Thankfully I didn't have to pay for my meal so I'm willing to give it another try if I'm in that area and someone else wants to go. Upon arriving we were greeted and escorted to our booth. The parklane location has a very large seating area. The place was very clean and welcoming. They also have a stage, but no longer use it. Our server Jenae was amazing! She was patient, gave recommendations, considerate and interacted with us to ensure we were pleased with everything. Great customer service! Had a late night dinner here after a bumpy flight from Utah. We were totally impressed with it all. A wonderful, friendly staff, good music playing and the food was delicious. Stopped through for breakfast on the way from Charlotte. We arrived before the restaurant got crowded and was immediately seated. 1st time for 3 of the 4 of us. Lots of great options on the menu. They have kool aid on the menu y'all! (We're in the south!!) It cost more than soda, lemonade, or iced tea- yet it does not come with a refill like the other drinks do; but it's 20 cents a pack kool aid, lol.
