If it wasn't for Yelp, I would not have found this wonderful restaurant in American Canyon, a gas stop on the way to Napa. The restaurant is located next to the Fairfield Inn. The Inn is in the left on Antonina Ave and Laso is on the right. The restaurant sign on the side of the Highway 29 is small and hard to see. The restaurant bill itself as Nepali-fusion cuisine. But I would say it's fresh California style with a Nepali twist. Their food is full of fresh ingredients with tasteful spices that doesn't overwhelm the natural favors. We ordered the following: Butternut Squash soup - a purée style soup with a hint of saffron. I requested it to be served extra hot, and it was hot and delicious. Brussels Sprouts - deep fried and toasted in sweet chili sauce. The sweet sauce tempers the bitterness of the sprouts, resulting in a perfectly balanced crunchy crucifer. Pakora - a fritter made from a mixture of onions, broccoli and others, deep fried to a crispy clump, served over a mint sauce. Mussel Curry - fresh mussels ironed in a sweet curry. A little different from curries I am used to (Thai, Japanese, Indian), not as spicy, but goes very well with the mussels. Pork Belly - seared and stewed pork belly , served sauce over with poached pear chutney and Papadum crumbs. Papadum is an Indian bread crumb. Pork belly was still firm, but tender with a good balance of fattiness. Seafood Pappardelle - home made fresh spinach pasta served with shrimp, mussels and Salmon in a tikka sauce. Giant shrimp (4pcs), mussels (4pcs) , Salmon (2pcs), in a buttery tikka sauce with wide, flat, al dente pasta. Delicious, tasty goodness! The Salmon was so fresh that it could have been served at any sushi restaurant. Kulfi - their specialty dessert. Nepali ice cream served with mango sauce, Nepalese donut hole and drizzled with chocolate sauce. My wife said it was very good! The staff was very friendly and engaging. The restaurant is simply decorated with a good size patio. They do need heat lamps for chilly fall/winter nights. But a "must not miss" on the way to other more famous dining venue in Napa. read more

Restaurant next to our hotel and given the reviews, we needed to try it. We came during lunch time and there is no wait time on a weekday and there were lots of seats available. It is not a very big restaurant. We shared the pork belly, the Brussels sprouts and the grilled eggplant for 2 people. The pork belly was ok and a bit bland and the skin was not crunchy so it was a bit chewy. The Brussels sprouts were really good and the grilled eggplant was very good as well. I hadn't eaten Nepalese food before and this was the most flavorful food I've had in a long time, very well balanced flavors. I can't remember the names of the food I had but I got the traditional plate and several appetizers and everything was amazing. I liked it even better than Indian food. We stayed the night at the DoubleTree Hotel and walked 5 minutes to this restaurant. (If you plan to do the same, bring a flashlight if you walk at night and don't wear dress shoes/heels. The sidewalk ends at the hotel property line and you'll have to trapes through other business properties and dirt lots that are not paved. 10/10/2020) Anyways - Laso is a diamond in the rough (I only say rough because I didn't see a lot of nice restaurants in the nearby vicinity). We didn't know what to expect. Laso is tucked away in a small business strip on the main road, but if you're not looking, you could easily drive past. We came for oysters and the rest was a pleasant surprise! They allow seating inside, which was a first for us. There is also patio seating. We chose to sit inside because it was getting cold and breezy outside that evening. Inside was really cute and clean. it's not a huge place, but they had socially distanced tables so we were pretty comfortable. You can make reservations. The oysters we came in for were great! I had a lentil soup and a half chicken. Chicken was juicy and the skin crispy! I could only eat half of it (the other half I had as an awesome midnight snack back at the hotel room!). Husband ordered pakora and raviolis - loved them both. Dessert was kulfi for me and something else for my husband... can't remember bc I was too into my first ever yummy kulfi!! The service was excellent and extremely helpful with their menu. Very welcoming and appreciative of their guests - the local regulars and out-of-towner's, like us. A bit late writing this review. My husband and I came here for a late lunch and we were pleasantly surprised. We sat outside since it was still a bit warm at the time and liked that they had tried to transform the outdoor space to make it more welcoming. There is also a small vegetable garden with shade from a nearby tree that looked very peaceful. Service was good and attentive. Food was flavorful. We thought some of the flavors were interesting as it was definitely a fusion of eastern and western flavors. Very cool and enjoyable. We found the prices to be a bit high considering the location (corner of a strip mall with really bad landscaping and need for updating and lights), but hope this restaurant stays in business as it's a nice addition to the AC offerings. read more

What a great find! Thank you yelpers for your reviews that brought me here! Who knew there is a unique restaurant in American Canyon?! The restaurant is modern and well decorated, simple but pleasant and chic. The entire place looked clean and neat, and they only seat every other table so plenty of space for social distancing. The waiter also wore a mask the entire time. We ordered pork belly (small plate) and mesclun salad as starters. The salad was very refreshing! And surprisingly it was a great portion, certainly shareable. The pork belly was imo, the star! I loved the sweet and savory flavor combination. The fat melted in my mouth but yet it still had a bit of a crunchy and chewy texture. Delicious!!! For entrees we ordered the New York steak that came out perfectly medium rare and it was sooo tender and perfectly seasoned. Hubby usually loved his steak with steak sauce but the NY steak came sauced and mo additional condiment was needed. Perfect! I opted for the lugsya curry (lamb shank), the portion was generous and the lamb was falling off the bone! I ordered a side of steam rice as the dish was saucy and perfect to eat with rice. It reminded me a little bit like lamb tangine but with a slight curry flavor. For desserts we opted for their staple kulfi and cheesecake. Both desserts were really good and bot overly sweetened, although we both loved the kulfi more because it was unique! Service was attentive (not intrusive) and friendly. We brought our 4 months old with us and they were very accommodating. The other diners were also family with a kid (10 and younger) which was surprising as it looks like a modern fine dining place. There are a couple of outdoor seatings if you prefer. Overall, it was a great dining experience and it did not break the bank! Certainly worth making your way here for a great, innovative and unique meal. Small menu but sufficient to please your mouth and tummy. We will certainly be back, it's now one of very few places that we truly enjoy since we moved to the area. We hope that the pandemic wont wipe this local business out. An absolute MUST stop! As starters, we had pork belly and the beet salad. Very yummy! Highly recommend both. For dinner entrees by boyfriend had the lugsya curry and I have a Papardelle seafood plate. Both were delicious. Everything was beautifully presented. The food had depth of flavor and the menu seemed well thought out. Everything was 5 star worthy. The chef served us himself, and everything was cooked and prepared to perfection. Finally got a chance to try Laso and I'm mad at myself for waiting for so long to try it. Upon arriving we were greeted by Myles, the host and our sever for the evening. He was very courteous and kind. He asked us if we've been there before and offered to help us with the menu in the event we had questions. A few minutes after we were seated, a woman came over and warmly welcomed. She too asked if we've been there before and she briefly told us about the menu. You could tell that she was proud of their Nepalese heritage and were excited for us to try their native dishes. We ordered the beef Momo (pan fried dumplings), chicken thali and the Laso burger. I regret ordering the burger not because it was bad, it was pretty good, but I should have ordered more Nepalese food because it was flavor packed and so damn good! Myles took the time to explain our dishes as he brought them to the table. You could tell that he too was proud of his Nepalese heritage and the food his family prepared for us. Talk about going above and beyond. The family was beyond kind and wanted to thank us for visiting for dinner. You can tell the food was cooked with love. Great prices. I recently went to LASO for the first time and my only regret is that I haven't gone sooner! I have not experienced hospitality on this level in a very long time, if ever. We were greeted warmly immediately upon entering and given top tier service from start to finish. I have never had Nepalese food before, so they walked us through everything and gave detailed descriptions about the food and the traditional way to eat it. Speaking of the food, it was out of this world amazing! Not to mention very reasonably priced. First night in American Canyon after a long flight and quick wine tasting my wife and I were in the mood for some good food to get a good night's rest. Located in a small mall, walking in we felt exactly where we wanted to be as we were greeted by a very energetic hostess as we sat for a 7:15pm reservation on a friday night. Menu was very interesting but we settled on a few things: - Soup of the day: Red Kidney Bean soup with curry. It was 62 degrees and being from south florida a good soup was in order. This one did not disappoint. Extremely flavorful, not spicy or sweet but felt the heartness of the beans with a touch of curry. It was all gone! - Appetizer: Pakora. Vegetable fritters on top of a mint chutney. Lightly fried so it's gentle yet the crisp goes well with the touch of mint chutney to savor. Main Course 1: Momo. Dumplings with a secret sauce and parmesan cheese dressed with watercrest. If this is your thing, THIS is for you. Very savory and tasty. Main Course 2: Lugsya Curry. In other words LAMB SHANK! Huge, tender piece of lamb with a bone suited perfectly for the big dog at home. Flavored with a little bit of curry and spices, sprinkled carrots and peas. Side of white rice. Top notch. We've been going to Laso since the day they opened back in 2019. And now Laso 2.0 is here. Laso 2.0 offers authentic Nepalese cuisine, with everything on the menu pricing under $20. What an amazing gem this restaurant is! I totally enjoyed the conversation with the owner/chef. He is clearly passionate about his cuisine and has worked extremely hard to create a restaurant with a calm, beautiful ambiance and fresh, flavorful food. He intentionally keeps the menu small so each item can shine on their own. They have one dish with each protein including oysters and seafood. The chef/owner is very picky and sends back any delivery of product that is not up to par. I had a roasted eggplant dish with lots of veggies and a lovely sauce. Also a nice dessert. I've never had Nepalese food before so I have nothing to compare this to, but wow... just wow. Everything we had was so yummy and full of flavor. I was really surprised with the Seafood Pappardelle. It didn't look like a lot but I couldn't have been more wrong. They did NOT skimp out on the seafood and I almost died eating it all because I got so full. Found this wonderful Nepalese restaurant online as we happened to be in American Canyon for the evening. We were excited to try as we had trekked in Nepal a number of years ago, and the food and atmosphere of Nepal is hard to come by. We were warmly greeted by the owner who chatted with us about our travels was interested in pictures, and quickly brought all their takes on traditional Nepalese staples we were familiar with like sel roti, riki kur, momos, and thenthuk which we had not had before. There was also wonderful masala tea that took us back to our time in country. Crab Cakes - my favorite between the two appetizers, it's hard to find a decent crab cake in the area and this is looking like my go to if I start craving. Seafood pappardelle - Complementing flavors and the seafood was cooked perfectly Lamb Shank Curry - The lamb was tasty surprise, and the curry was good, not the best but the lamb was the star of the dish since it was cooked perfectly. I haven't ventured into Nepalese cuisine as much as I would like too. The dishes that's served are are great because it's like getting the Napa experience without having to go to Napa. We finished a round of golf at Eagle Vines and their restaurant was closed by the time we were done - I had pretty low expectations after playing 18, and just wanted a glass of wine and a small bite and we stumbled upon this GEM of a place. It's in a little strip mall, but once you walk in, it's like a mini oasis (complete with a little garden we saw the chef picking from during our meal). The food and service was spectacular. I ordered the salmon and my friend ordered the asparagus with egg and it was cooked to perfection. Seriously, Michelin quality food in a shopping center. Who knew?! We came here while visiting a friend who lives in American Canyon, and this was a first time here for all of us. We had a wonderful lunch and were spoiled for excellent service by the owner himself. We started with samosa's and the Pakoda potato fritters, which were served with the most delicious green onion chutney. Then we each had a Thali Set, mine was the vegetarian option and it was a feast of flavors which I thoroughly enjoyed. We also shared the Kulfi frozen ice cream for dessert, which was topped with coconut, chocolate, and mango, and some little cheese balls that were unique and yummy.
