We are in town as part of an RV tour- staying in Palmer but drove to Wasilla for the chiropractor. We found The Last Frontier via google and it only had 3.5 stars but we were hungry. We were sat immediately at about 5 ish on a Thursday. We looked over the menu and the hostess brought water for us right away. The waitress came over for drink and food orders. We ordered the regular ribeye and sodas. My husband ordered a salad and it came out about 10 min before the meal. The steaks with vegetables and mashed potato and gravy (I had these, my husband got the salad instead) and all items were sizzling hot and very good! The steaks were both cooked correctly (medium and medium rare) with good seasoning and flavor. The vegetables (broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower) were tasty, hot, and slightly crunchy (not mushy)! The potatoes and gravy were very good-tasted homemade! I also had these homemade root beer which was very good and the bread pudding. We misunderstood the option for a margarita and didn't realize the restaurant only served beer and wine so the margarita was a wine based drink and not our favorite (our fault) My wife ordered a glass of Zin, as in Zinfandel, and received a white Zin that was a little too sweet for our palate and was "turning" as in, vinegar, it was going bad. I ordered a beer, a house Amber. It had a burnt aftertaste The Burgers weren't bad, not great. The Fries were actually really good. The environment relaxed, family friendly. The portions are huge. Many years ago I recall the Pizza being good. This place is a local landmark. A favorite for many in the Valley. I recommend you try it for yourself. My wife and I ordered at 8:30 on a Friday night. It first took 30 minutes to place a drink order that was the only part of the meal that was correct . When my prime rib came out it was cold to the touch and the order was not cooked to the proper temperature. The salads came out 15 minutes after the entrees . Giving a sub-par review doesn't bring me any joy, so I will lead with the positive. The service was spectacular. My server (I believe his name was Andrew) was top notch despite being overwhelmed with customers. As for the food, I ordered the halibut tacos. The fish was minced and it was difficult to recognize as halibut (look and taste). The blackened seasoning was as I expected, but the taco was pretty greasy and I could only get through one of them. The spinach and crab dip was the only thing that was good that I tried. The halibut and chips which are $27 was not worth it at all. The fries were overcooked and the fish was dry. The pizza was nothing special. I think this spot is more for having drinks than eating. Unless I ordered the wrong things or it was just a bad day for the cook I'm not sure. I was honestly hesitant to try this place due to the low rating, but I am glad we gave it a try! We came here after the Iron Dog race so before the COVID-19 related shutdowns. I thought our meal was good, and the beer was excellent. I see some complaints about pricing, and I would say it's not any more expensive than other restaurants serving the same fare. Our sandwiches were $16 each, which to me is pretty standard. Maybe some items are a bit pricier, but I did not see anything outrageous. We had no issues with service at all, and I can honestly say it is some of the best service we have ever received since moving to Alaska, and that was mainly because our server was an allstar. So onto my next point.... ALL OF THE STARS FOR ANDREW. He was an amazing bartender/server! The place was packed and he was working the bar, and all the tables. As someone who's worked in a restaurant that is no easy task! He was busy, and up front about it, but wait times were minimal due to his great hustle. He was absolutely fantastic! As the name would indicate they are a brewery. They had a very nice selection of beers! My husband got a very nice double IPA, and I ordered a doppelbock. Both were extremely flavorful. I was particularly excited to see a doppelbock because it is not a beer style I have seen featured at many breweries. The beers were around $8 for 16 oz so a little on the pricier side, but nothing outrageous that I haven't seen before at other breweries. Their food menu is pretty extensive, and they seem to cover a wide variety of categories from appetizers all the way to some pretty hearty entree selections. They also have pizza which I am intrigued to go back and try. It seems like a place that serves pretty standard pub fare with some fancier dinner options. We started with an order of jalapeno poppers that were massive, and delicious. Served with a great berry dipping sauce. My husband ordered a prime rib sandwich special that was loaded with toppings, and I ordered a Reuben. We both enjoyed our sandwiches, and the fries were hot and crispy! The corned beef on the Reuben had good flavor, and the prime rib was juicy. The only complaint is that the prime rib sandwich could have used a side of au jus. If you are looking to try a new brewery or to have some tasty bar food in the Valley Last Frontier is definitely worth a stop! We will be back to try some more beers, and the pizza! read more

EDIT 10/29 TO ADD: I spoke with the owner, Robby, and he apologized for his manager and said they should have called him and it wasn't handled correctly, then he offered to refund the full charges for the whole meal. I thanked him and told him I really appreciate him taking care of it and making it right. Let me preface this review by saying that our server Bree (Bri?) was nice and punctual. Everything else about the experience was absolutely bottom rung. We decided to order iced tea as we were driving back to Anchorage after a long afternoon being outside for a family activity. My partner, myself and our two kids were present for dining. The iced tea came with a few thin small ice cubes, and was more room temp than cold. It was also extremely watery. I decided to just have ice water, because as it is a place that brews its own beer, I doubt anyone is coming there for the tea. I ordered the halibut and fries, which comes with a side of coleslaw. My partner ordered the bacon cheeseburger and fries, my 4 year old got the chicken fingers and fries meal, and my teenager ordered the small Caesar salad. When our food arrived, I noticed the halibut had a strange kind of very heavy flaky coating on it and was very dark. I'm a lifelong Alaskan and have fished, filleted, and deep fried halibut more times than I can count- my fish was hammered. I ate one piece of it and had to drown it in tartar sauce to get any moisture. On top of that, it was barely hot. None of our fries were hot either, and greasy. The coleslaw featured in the photo on their menu looks good, but the coleslaw I was served was literally a bowl of mayo soup with finely chopped pieces of cabbage in it. It was some time before we saw our server again, but I when we did see her I signaled her to come over. My exact words were, "I really don't want to be this person, cause problems, but my fish is-" Before I could even get the words out she finished my sentence with, "Dry, overcooked?" Even the server could see it. I said, "Yes, hammered." I then pointed out the coleslaw and she was like oh my goodness, wow. Then I said unfortunately we are in a hurry, so if we could just have it taken off the bill and she said absolutely, and took it back to the kitchen. I decided to just let the fries on all our plates go, and my daughter's chicken fingers (which she wouldn't even eat because they were also so greasy and overfried). We just wanted to wrap up and get out of there. To be fair, my partner's cheeseburger was pretty good. A few minutes later she came back out and said, "My manager broke open a piece of the fish and said it wasn't overcooked but done correctly, so she will give you a discount but not remove the charge entirely. She did say that she understands about the coleslaw." I asked to speak with the manager and she wouldn't even come to the table to talk to me. I wasn't offered my food back (even if it is hammered, if I'm paying for it still, then I am going to take it home), I wasn't offered a refire in place. Just to pay for a meal that they threw away without taking it off the bill- as was said to me in the first place was going to happen. ONLY if they are not going to remove it would I want food in its place- ESPECIALLY if I am still having to pay for it. So I paid $22 for food that I didn't even have??? I didn't want to cause a scene, so we just paid and left, but on the way home I decided to call and ask to speak directly with the manager. She came on the phone and I introduced myself and let her know that I was the patron that sent the halibut back. I explained my situation and she interrupted me and said, "I broke it open and it was still pearly and you don't know what you're talking about." I let her know that it definitely was and even the server said so. Then I told her I was told it would be removed from the bill, but then when it wasn't I wasn't even offered my food back or a refire, and she said, "in our restaurant if you send it back, the moment it comes back into the kitchen it gets dumped in the trash." I was appalled. I told her that if it wasn't going to be removed as said to me, then I should have been offered my meal back or a replacement, and she said, "So you don't want it, now you do, you're going back and forth and flip flopping." WHAT?! Am I taking crazy pills? I let her know because it wasn't removed on the bill, and I didn't get any food in its place, I would be contesting the charge since I was charged for a product I did not receive and she said, "You're not going to get your money back but you can go ahead and try," and then hung up on me. I didn't get any pictures because 1) I didn't expect to have to take any as we were just stopping in for a bite, and 2) my plate was taken away shortly after it arrived to me and never brought back. From the management to the food, this place should be called, "Last Resort Brewing Company." I tried to support a local place and try something new. Never ever again here. read more

I'd go again because the beer flight includes EIGHT, two ounce glasses. It means you can try almost everything on the board. I'd go again to look at the knotty pine on the deck leading into the restaurant. Living in Alaska means I'm used to high prices, but 60 bucks for a steak seems high even for Alaska. Arrive in Wasilla after traveling all day and wanted to try some local brews. Settled on this place mostly due to convenience and location as it's right off a main road. Gf had a porter which was pretty tasty. I got the on tap apple ale (tart not super sweet). Both beers were very good but at $8.00 a beer they better be. The halibut sandwich was the real winner ($19). So tasty and tender. Perfectly cooked, not over seasoned and the bread was delicious. The caribou burger ($13) was a bit gamey but that's what we were after. The French fries were tasty but we ordered onion rings and they never came so they never charged us for them. I had mine with a lemon and friend had hers with orange. Lemon wedge is the way to drink it. Met up with friends for dinner. We ate outside which allowed good conversation. Service was quick, attentive, and friendly. My wife life's the halibut fish and chips; we could eat that 10 times for the price of a single fishing trip! I had the bacon ranch burger which was cooked to perfection. This was my third visit to the Last Frontier Brewery. All 3 times we've sat at the bar. The bartenders check everyone's ID regardless of your age. But, when they do they read your name and address you by your first name the entire time you're there. It's actually a really cool habit, and makes you feel valued as a customer. The bartender has always been super friendly. Slows you to sample as many beers as you need before making a decision. They have roughy 20 beers on tap. 8-10 regular and a few rotating and seasonal. The nachos are amazing and a large portion. The large pizza is massive and comes in 8 LARGE slices. The jalapeño poppers are also massive! Waited some more. We've been waiting more the 75 minutes and I'm ready to gnaw on the table. People seated after us are getting their food. The food smells good; no idea how it tastes.
