Gorgeous interior, what a stunning building! Staff was so friendly and accommodating and Shannon the manager was the nicest ever. She came over and asked about our Chicago Bears gear, which happened to be the Bears vs Packers weekend and we greatly appreciated her kindness. Not all towns would be this nice! Very average. Nice waitress but very new so she didn't know a lot of answers to our questions, primarily around draft beers. She also forgot to put in a round of drinks and our appetizer but not the end of the world. What was surprising was that at dinner time on a Tuesday there was no one else eating there... anyways on to food. Perch was probably not perch? Maybe thinking that because of the batter which is typically for cod. It was fine but just not what I was expecting so probably wouldn't get again brocade I want that light corn meal batter and lots of lemon. Side salad was very good so recommend. I wanted to go somewhere that we haven't been in a long time, so we tried Bricks. The last time I was here , they opened and the food wasn't the best, so I figured give them another try and give them time to figure it all out. Still very clean inside with a vibrant atmosphere and buzz of people having a good time and chatting. Our server was very nice.i ordered the appetizer sampler for a starter. The curds were good, the bourbon cheese dip for the chips I didn't care for. I then ordered the walleye plate dinner while my other friends got a wrap and also walleye. However they make their walleye, it isn't for me, but it might be for you, I wasn't a fan but their breading on the fish was A+ I have to say! It came with bread, coleslaw, and cauliflower. Have to say, the coleslaw was not good at all. The potatoes were very good though! Our drinks were very good, very nice selection of options also. We started with the bacon wrapped cheese curds with a bourbon dip which are always good. Then for our main dish we had the beer battered perch which was phenomenal!! Nobody in Manitowoc has beer battered fish like this. It was also served with baby reds, cauliflower with a butter garlic sauce, and toasted rye bread. Yikes on every level. Atmosphere: Really loud and the bathroom was not clean. Food: Not good....the falafel was dry and mushy at the same time? The brussel sprouts were so overcooked they disintegrated when they hit your tongue. Service: Awful. Had to get our own waters and silverware, waitress was beyond rude. Our table wasn't done eating and she came over and said "do you want the bill"? Didn't ask if we needed a refill on drinks or water or if we wanted dessert. I always leave a tip (and a good one at that) but I was beyond tempted not to.... So many better places to eat in Manitowoc than here. They need to turn things around. read more

Our flatbread meals were great! I was so excited to learn their gf flatbread was soy free!!! It was also very delicious. My husband had the original flatbread with chicken and enjoyed it. Came in for a cocktail during the summer. Bartender was great. Nice open feel to the restaurant. Tried a bowl of chili. It was spicy and had good flavor. Ordered the maple bourbon old fashioned and it was excellent. Would get that again. My husband loves a good summer cocktail and ordered two: raspberry mojito and hibiscus Collins. First things first... $2.50 for a hand muddled Old Fashioned? (Everyday) Great deal! And they are actually very good! I had to laugh that according to the menu a soda is also $2.50... might as well add the booze! I tried the Wisconsinite Burger and it was pretty darn good except one thing. It was way under done. I ordered Medium Well and it came out very much Medium Rare. Because it was pretty busy I decided not to send it back, and a powered through! Actually it had a lot of flavor and (besides the cooking) was a pretty good burger. Great bun too. Fries were average. This was my first time at Brix and I was happy with the service and wow clean and fresh the place looked. They obviously put a lot of work into the place and I will definitely be back. read more

We have wanted to visit Brix for several months; when friends from Michigan came to visit us this weekend we drove to Manitowoc to try the lunch fare. As soon as we entered we were greeted by a very friendly bartender Shannon who warmly welcomed us to Brix with a great smile. We were impressed with the ambiance--a relaxed, friendly vibe. Our server Amelia arrived right away and took an order for cocktails and the bacon wrapped cheese curd appetizer (not gonna lie--it was so delicious with the sauce that we ordered another one after taking 2 bites!) For entrees we selected a Patty Melt (our gal loves a cheeseburger), the Meatzza flatbread, the Steak Bomb(succulent/juicy but beware if you are afraid of jalapeño peppers), and the Brix & Mortar burger (sooo tasty with the Bourbon cheese sauce and onions). Service was excellent, and the food arrived piping hot. Amelia kept us happy with the water glasses filled, the cocktails refreshed, and checking on how we were enjoying our meals. The food portions were spot on--two of us needed take away boxes because our appetites were not equal to our desires.‍. This was an excellent dining adventure. The environment was the perfect blend of fun and the background music was not loud (Shannon even asked if it was too loud for our tastes; I think we were laughing at times so our boisterous table was probably at the right noise level). After dinner, Jackie the owner stopped at our table to ask if everything was to our satisfaction. We gushed about the service, the food, the ambiance--and we promised her to come back for another fun meal. First time trying this place with some friends. We were seated shortly after arriving. We were told that the kitchen orders were running a little long, no problem with us we were catching up with friends. Apps came out quickly and were very good. We had been curious about this place for months. Time to try it. We walked in and noticed games and multiple TVs blaring. If you are nostalgic about old time shuffleboard tables, you'll love this. I must say they did a nice job on making this old building look good. After standing in the entrance for a while we were finally approached by a friendly waitress and offered a table in the middle of the restaurant. No thank you, we'll take the one on the far wall. This turned out to be a good move, as we were as far from the TVs and most of the noise as we could be As it was the Hallowed Eve season another wait person dropped off about 8 little candy bars on our table. Iced tea came quickly. Wasn't the best, wasn't the worst. Then our waitress disappeared for a while. We waited while we listened to the screaming kid at the next table. And the little boy running laps through the dining area. Parents were oblivious. Finally our order got taken. They have several options for ovo-lacto vegetarians. I ordered a falafel salad with greens, and beet humus. My wife ordered a Portobello mushroom sandwich. Both our meals came with fries. We asked for more tea and our still smiling waitress brought us a nice carafe of better tea. My falafel was a bit undercooked, but the whole dish was really really good. My wife loved her sandwich. I've been to restaurants where the cook doesn't remove the gills on a Portobello. Here the chef had the sense to do so. The French fries were in house made and great. Whoever they have working in the kitchen does a good job, Our waitress came by to offer dessert. Sorry, no, we were stuffed. Our bill came quickly and then another disappearing act. After what seemed like an eternity, we took our bill to the bar. Confusion reigned, our card was shuffled from bartender to bartender until our original waitress showed up and got it straightened out. As the food was a solid 4 and a half star I feel a bit guilty in giving a three star review. I've said it before; and I'll say it again. Loud sports bars and fine dining are not compatible. Seven or eight TVs, music and people screaming at each other does not contribute to an enjoyable meal. At one time one or more of their speakers started some kind of feedback loop, the sound was literally painful until someone got control of it. We were here on a Saturday night. We definitely like the food a lot; but we'll save our future visits for a week day, when hopefully the place will be calmer. And parents, if your child makes noises that sound like a wounded pterodactyl for 15 minutes, it's not adorable Bottom line, if you want to eat some superlative food and you don't mind the noise and activities going on around you, it would behoove you check this upscale sports' bar out. read more

Yelp says they are open til midnight on Sundays. We arrived around 6:40p and planned to have an appetizer while playing shuffleboard and then order. Then we are informed that the kitchen closes at 7p. And the food was all subpar. My burger was med-well rather than the med-rare that I ordered. Beer battered mozzarella & hubby's barnyard burger were just ok. Mostly annoyed that the shuffleboard was $5 with a timer. They actually have pegs that come up when time is up. And despite going up to the bar to inquire about the pucks, the bartender had us go to the game, put our money in, and come back to get the pucks. Hmm, may need a lesson in customer service. We are no shuffleboard pros, but something was very goofy with it. Crazy tilt. read more

New restaurant that just recently opened in downtown Manitowoc. Restaurant is an upscale pub style restaurant with a eclectic menu albeit a bit on the lite side when it comes to the number of items on the menu (may be a function of the Covid environment). Food we had (Brix burger, bacon wrapped curds and Cheesehead flat bread pizza) were all tasty. The burger was 1/2 lb ground beef with Bourbon cheese and haystack onions that was accompanied by house fries where the Burger had good size and taste but the fries while tasty could have been a little crunchier. The flat bread pizza had fresh tomato, herbs, brat slices cheese curds, mozzarella and BBQ Aioli. I enjoyed most aspects of this pizza but the cheese curds are definitely not a topping I am a fan of (definitely a unique Wisconsin thing). The bacon wrapped cheese curds were a first for me as well and were OK based on my personal taste but can see anyone with a cheese curd affinity loving these little morsels of fat on fat. Lastly they have a a full bar menu with solid beer choices (we had the imported Spaten Weiss Bier), good cocktail menu and a limited but good wine section. Also of note they have excellent happy hour prices before 6 pm where our wine was $4/glass and the beer $3/glass. Relative to the environment itself this is a clear strength for this business as it is a clean and bright establishment with high ceilings and an industrial vibe to it that definitely adds to the overall dining experience. Good table separation with good safety protocols relative to Covid with friendly and prompt service are all strengths for this restaurant as well. Overall a a nice/new dining option to add to your choices of dining options when you are in the downtown area of Manitowoc. read more

UPDATE: After being encouraged to try BRIX again, it has been almost a year since I was last there. Let me come out and say what a HUGE improvement this experience was over my last visit. And you can see that there are some definite improvements in the overall management. For example, our drink order arrive under 5 mins from the the time of order compared to the 28 mins last time. There was also a good balance of customer engagement without being overbearing or neglected. Overall, the experience is greatly improved. read more

You know when you go into a a restaurant, and leave with the overwhelming feeling the owner just decided it's easy and cool to own a restaurant, despite never having worked in the restaurant industry? If that's for you, you'll love Brix. Restaurant looks good. Menu looks good. Food even looks good. Don't trust them. They are dirty, dirty liars. Everything is just so deeply meh. My burger for example; overcooked burger isn't seasoned, egg wasn't seasoned, grilled jalapeño was straight up raw, tomato was diced, because god forbid you get any moisture on the sauceless (unless you want an upcharge) sad excuse for a burger. My husband was gifted with a dry, also flavorless po boy. Bless your heart for trying to reinvent cajun food to accommodate the flavor "bland". On the plus side, if you're looking for a go to restaurant to dump someone, this is the place for you. read more

Good, got a wrap, more lettuce than anything else. Subbed brussels for fries, worth it for me. My husband said the fries were really good and enjoyed his burger, said it was good meat. We arrived at Brix about 545 pm tonight . Hostess stated roughly 20-30 min wait. No problem. Our party of 6 sat at the bar , had drinks. I talked to the hostess again at 615pm, she stated another 10-15. No problem. Finally sat down about 640 pm- almost a full hour from when we arrived. Brix didn't seem that busy to be taking almost an hour to sit. Waitress took an appetizer order . The waitress didn't take our meal order until after she brought out the appetizers. At 710 pm she took our food order. Our waitress came and checked on the table one time until 8pm. I asked her what was taking so long with the food since most were burger or sandwich like. Everyone that sat down after we did, had there food and were eating or already getting ready to leave. She went to check on our order and stated that tickets got mixed up. Another waitress came out with French fries for a comp. Fries were not hot at all- warm at most. Our waitress also stated the manager would come out. That never happened. Our meal finally came out at 820pm. Waitress offered another round of drinks, I declined, but the rest of the table said yes. Only my wife's drink was brought to the table. My meal was over cooked, ordered medium- came out well done. Sweet potato fry's were rubber. We also ordered bowls of Chile and soup. That was never brought to the table. The overall service and quality of food for the price was extremely poor. A good waitress should be monitoring the time a table sits down..The bartender would get a 5-star- restaurant and wait staff along with the manager would get at 1/4 star for showing up to work. Gave Brix one last try. The food has always been marginal at best. But, everyplace else in town was jammed, so I decided to give it one more go. Sat at the bar and it took a solid 10 minutes for someone to even acknowledge that I was there. Finally got my drink and was then told it would be 45 minutes wait for food.
