Really like this place! Good food, service, and people! Great location with scenic outdoors.

Upscale pub food, served inside, or (when weather permits, even well into the fall) outside. Comfy chairs, nooks and sofas, this is a place to sit back and enjoy food with friends. Well trained staff and a responsive kitchen make this a reasonable destination. That's not to say that the food is always great -- some things are good, some pretty standard and not special. But the atmosphere is nice, and the food is at worst solid. Things that are particularly good include the sweet potato fries, gluten-free options on most dishes (for those who need them), and the various entrées (things like steak and scallops). Things that weren't so good include salads (made with bagged lettuce? and really nothing special), and the broccoli cheddar soup. I recommend looking around at what others are eating before ordering ... get what they do well and you'll be happy. read more

Table of 7 on a Friday night, not many there when we arrived but it got progressively more full. They seated us in the back which may have affected service. Water glasses were smudged/needed another run through the dishwasher. Sat with only a beer list and no cocktails. Waitress didn't know about any specials other than prime rib for that night (they open at 4, we sat at 6:30) We'd order a round and the drinks would come back to us 1-2 at a time. BlackBerry bourbon smashes didn't taste like there was any bourbon in them. 3 people ordered meals with fries, we'd asked for ketchup when she delivered the food and the waitress said she'd bring some. It never arrived. Our meals were fine otherwise. She never asked if we wanted to split the bill and just drops the check. I've been here several times before with good service, food, and excellent cocktails. We won't be heading back anytime soon. They were a 3-4 star restaurant before and have always had a nice ambiance. read more

With a little help, it could be a 5 star place. They aren't fabulous on their timing. And some of the food was a little hit-or-miss. BUT, I love this place. It's pretty and funky and a hidden gem. It's got well marked gluten-free options and the servers will help with food allergies as best as they can. I've really enjoyed 90% of the food I've gotten. And also great, there's really something for everyone. So it's a great place to bring people with varying food issues. Good for wheelchair access too, and a lovely patio. read more

Latham Tavern is back! We were there the first week they had re-opened, and there were still some things to work on. I expect they'll be up to 5 stars again soon. First thing to come to mind is WOW. As soon as you walk in the decor is beautiful. All wooded and very tasteful! They also have two tents outside set up as well. I came here two nights as I was staying at the bed and breakfast attached to the tavern. First night we got the wings and coconut shrimp for an app. Not going to lie the shrimp needed work. I think there wasn't a super thick batter so the shrimp was not crispy as I'm used to. However some people might enjoy that! Seemed fresh and not frozen. The wings were very good. For my meal I got the Cesar salad with chicken 10/10 recommend this salad. Second night we got the fried cheese as an app and I got the Thai salad. Also highly recommend ! The staff is always friendly and hard working. Covid made a mess of life in the Upper Valley, but Latham Tavern rose to the occasion and found a way to keep going. They created one of the nicest outdoor dining arrangements and complete with a unique granite bar. The food is creative and delicious. Seriously, the best burger evva! All establishments in this area have been hard hit due to staffing shortages. My advice to anyone going out to eat at this time is that you please be kind, patient and generous to your servers. read more

Visit September 10. Interesting there are no reviews within recent months. Many reviews from several years ago when it was a much better restaurant. If you only want is precooked, way over priced burgers served in plastic containers, this is the place. Two steps up from a local bar. The atmosphere is promising in a classic NH inn. Beyond the white paint, patio under the trees and nice garden is a big disappointment at best. Hit or miss maybe but our visit would never recommend it. Go elsewhere stated a local B&B owner. Two and a half stars for this review given the failure(s) at Latham House Tavern. Started with the condescending snot attitude.kiddo hostess wannabe. Yes it is obvious, dinner for 2... No we are not part of another party, We are quite sure of that... Next the kiddo hostess (with a five second attention span) dumps us on a two seat high top outside despite many, many open regular tables. Next the QR code menu from a WiFi you must first set up. Cell service is nearly useless. Duh... a real menu please, what a concept! Next the obvious frustrated waitstaff trying to train a clueless inept first day on the job waitstaff on a Friday night at the busiest time. Result was a lost order, a wrong order and two really bad mixed drinks. BTW: Food as a foo-foo farm burger was average at best. Clearly pre-cooked and served in a plastic take out container with visual enhancements to disguise the ruse of food. Yeah right, all the plastic waste. Many business complain of staffing shortages and this would be a prime example of that. Not far away was another restaurant with full staff of energetic adults working effectively with great food (and a four star rating). The excuse from the Latham House manager that we cannot hire anyone with needed skills seems to be well debunked. I would suggest rethinking the current staff. Latham House Tavern is a gift from god during C19. They have a beautiful outdoor tent, well-appointed and decorated, with great ambiance. It actually feels like eating at a normal restaurant during normal times. The food is awesome and the waitstaff are lovely. We've never had a bad meal here. It's tougher to dine outdoors now that cold weather has come, but still a great option for folks willing to brave the low temps. The tent is heated, so if you bundle up it's totally do-able. They also do great take-out meals if you want to bring your food home. We've tried everything from the salads to the chicken to the brussels sprouts. My favorite dish so far is the pecan-crusted salmon. Desserts are also awesome -- try the chipwiches!! read more

Delicious bar bites appetizers that are super cheap during happy hour. Wednesday wing nights are our favorite. Go get plump actual chicken wings for 50c. Highly recommend the buffalo and Thai Chili. So many other delicious vegetarian and GF options too. Get quality food at a fair price. read more

We visited Lyme last fall for a friend's wedding, and we stayed in the B&B where Latham House Tavern is located. Prior to the trip I had looked up the tavern, and it seemed like a good spot to grab drinks and food, so following the rehearsal dinner we went there with some folks to keep the party going. We kind of got off on the wrong foot with the bar staff, because we tried to carry cans of beer into the bar. It's not that we wanted to drink the beer we had in hand, we were just looking for a spot to throw the cans away, and as there were no trash cans outside we had no choice but to step into the door with them and ask to throw them away. Though we were only asking to throw the cans into the trash the staff became upset with us for bringing them in the door in the first place. I can see both sides of this, but we honestly weren't trying to do anything wrong. We just didn't want to litter around their establishment. The atmosphere was fine. It's a large space with lots of seating, televisions, and a large bar. The bartender was a little strange. He told us this really odd story about David Duchovny, where basically David Duchovny came into the bar and sat in our exact seats and he sneakily took photos of him all night. It made him seem really creepy. Overall this spot served its purpose though. We all enjoyed some drinks and good conversation, and if I were in the area again I would definitely stop back in. read more

Should be leaving a stellar review. Food was great, service was excellent and atmosphere great too. All good until the check came, with the truly outrageous prices for some martinis. Expect them to be pricey, but $14 for a small vodka martini was excessive for what we got. Small (3 to 4oz max), 2 olives loose in bottom of glass. Upcharged for Tito's- not even fancy vodka. Ironic given we just bought a 1.75L Tito's at the NH liquor store for $30. Not like we don't order martinis regularly....had they been large ones then could have swallowed the price. Meal was not worth $150 - left feeling ripped off, which is sad as we had been excited to come back. If you go, ask the drink prices before you order. read more

We have lived in VT for 3 years now and while we go to Lebanon quite a bit we never crossed the river further north towards us. We decided to head to Lyme after hearing loads of great things about another restaurant there but decided Lyme House was more our speed. Despite a rather crowded looking room we were seated almost immediately at a high top near the bar. Then greeted by an enthusiastic and friendly waitress (the food kind, not too much, just enough to know where we were coming from and give us a warm welcome). I got a pulled pork sandwich (later on another waitress told me I should get the pulled pork sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese next time because the sandwich is OVERFLOWING with pulled pork). My wife got the bison meatloaf (only complaint was TOO much mashed potatoes...but big helpings aren't much to complain about!). Both were yummy, tummy filling goodness. Cozy and rich and delicious. The dessert was a tad too sweet, but yummy nonetheless. The vibe of the place is really nice. Cozy but also like you are in a social atmosphere. Not too loud, not too quiet. Upon signing the check and asking my wife if she was ready to go I saw her face in slow mo go "noooooooooooooo!" and a warm feeling came over my right thigh as one of the waitresses had tripped and spilled a plate of poutine and a little got on my jeans and shoes. No big deal, but they immediately sprung into action, apologizing profusely and wiping my pants down with a towel (eliciting a "hey watch your hands on my man!" Jokingly). On the way out after I was sufficiently cleaned up the hostess handed us a gift card. Again, completely unnecessary, it was an accident and my jeans needed a wash anyway, but the fact they wanted to remedy an honest mistake speaks highly of this establishment. The only thing upscale about this place are the prices. Okay for a brew or 2 but the food is mediocre at best. I had the fish tacos and they were okay but nothing special. Certainly not worth $22. Our food arrived in like 5 minutes which tells me that things are not made to order. I was going to have wings but $14 for 6 wings!? Uh, no... The wait staff was all over the place and they all had that "deer in the headlights" look. My second beer never came before the check did. I gave this place 3 tries. I'll go there for libation and next door to Stella's for supper. read more

Lovely setting, beautiful tavern and great food! Prices are reasonable as well! I had the Mac n cheese with pulled pork - very good. Should have taken half of it home... Didn't. My husband had the corn chowder and we both loved that as well. Lots of fall "comfort food" options plus salads and burgers that looked great. Huge stone fireplace that I can't wait to enjoy in the colder months. They also have this cool tap system that requires the bartender to pump the tap - pretty cool. Do yourself a favor and check out the Latham House Tavern behind Dowd's Country Inn in Lyme! It's a nice change from the usual Hanover scene. Very nice. read more

This place is really more like 4:49 than a 4 - but I couldn't choose that. I think the beer selection and food are fantastic. Probably favorite place to eat in 30 mile radius. Worth the drive On the less that outstanding side - They seem to always need wait staff and or are often short handed/ over ratio'd. I can't tell if they have openings or not. I hope so. Because they need more people and I'd like to think they were in it. And tonight we came up to sit outside and were somewhat disappointed to find oursekves in a giant tent w four walls (think : wedding) - w a door open on each side. I would have preferred More air. We got the pretzels. You almost have to to be honest And we had a fantastic vegetable of the day - with onions and summer squash and zucchini. We will be back read more

Nice local tavern feel. We had the fish & chips & pulled pork sandwich. The fish was fresh and breaded just perfectly to give it a crisp shell while not overpowering the fish. The pulled pork has good flavor and was generous on the pork. Both meals came with a side of fries was fresh out of the fryer. The spiced apple margarita was like drinking an apple pie. The fore River prebble was pretty good as well. Get here a little on the earlier side since it does get busy pretty quick. read more

My wife and I have been 3 times. The short version: Trip 1: Excellent food, slow service. Good overall. Very busy night, but great! Trip 2: Extremely slow service resulting in an apology for an "error" that wasn't explained and our first round of drinks free. They were our only drinks, because we never saw our server again after our cold food was dropped off 45 minutes after ordering. We didn't eat 2/3 entrees served. Also a busy night, but come on, this place isn't cheap. Trip 3: Waited 10 minutes at the hostess stand ALONE with no hostess in sight until a man, dressed like a manager, told us he'd seat us even though "it's not my job." Our waitress brings menus and drinks promptly. 15 minutes later our waitress leaves out the front door carrying a baby, never comes back. 15 minutes after that, I go back to the stand to ask the hostess to find someone to take our order. We finally order and get our food. This time the food is edible, but mediocre at best. It was 3 o'clock on a Saturday and there were about 4 other tables total. Overall I just can't recommend it. The first visit was good enough that we went a third time even after our second was abysmal. The third time was just as bad, and I can't justify another $80 night out to try again. read more

Quiet quaint old New England town and big menu with both full entree and sandwich menus, good looking cocktail menu bar seating and tavern seating. If I could give 6 stars I would! Beautiful, quaint, charming & unbelievably delicious. The 5 star experience starts as you stroll up to entrance. Inside is polished wood, white glove clean. Service was individual & personal. We had New England clam chowder, whole clams in a rich creamy broth...one of the best soups I've ever eaten. Chips & dip, homemade tortilla chips with a bowl of local cheese for dipping...we polished the bowl clean it was so delicious. Stuffed by starters, we shared the bacon wrapped bison meatloaf...moist & flavorful perfection. And all started & ended with flights of beer for $8! We can't wait to go back! read more

You become captivated by this place before you even step indoors. After a bit of a drive around to get to the parking lot in the back of the building, you walk along a beautiful stone walkway lined with flowers and lanterns to get to the restaurant. Once inside, you're greeted by a large room with exposed beams on the ceiling, gorgeous woodwork, hand-laid masonry, which combines to make a wonderful, rustic feel. You're greeted warmly by a smiling hostess who brings you to your table. Our waiter, Colin, was beyond attentive and had genuine recommendations for food and beer, which we took happily. The food menu is large, but not overwhelming, and their drink menu is extensive and diverse, featuring beers on tap I'd previously only seen in the bottle. After ordering food and drinks, service was quick and fluid. We ordered the sausage appetizer and the fish taco entree per Colin's recommendation, and we weren't disappointed. The sausages were served in a flaky crust accompanied by a wonderful dijon mustard and a cheesy fondue dip. Absolutely excellent combination of tastes. The fish tacos were FANTASTIC. The blackened fish was seasoned with a spicy seasoning unlike anything I'd ever tried before, crisp veggies, and a wonderful sauce. This was by far our favorite dish. This whole experience is made even better by the the complete locality of everything in this restaurant. I could tell that most of the guests were locals, Colin told us that all of the vegetables come from the garden in the back, and the rest of the food from local farms. This place is quintessential New England, and exactly the kind of restaurant you want to visit when traveling through the region. But also, being so unpretentious, locals feel welcome to sit at the bar, chat with the staff, and enjoy a nice meal. I will absolutely return to this restaurant! read more

We ordered take out from here on Friday night for 4 adults and they offered desserts to go as well and we could not have been happier. The girl who took the order nailed it. We had a variety of food from steak tips to pasta primavera and burgers. We are all looking forward to going back to eat in the tavern looks like a great atmosphere. Since this is pretty much the only place to eat in town, I was impressed with how good the food was here. We decided to sit at the bar since it was a busy Saturday night. The hostess was visibly relieved. I ordered a maple nitro milk stout, which was very tasty and held me over until dinner arrived. I ordered the chicken pot pie, which was amazing. There was a small pot pie to break into AND a side of mashed potatoes and string beans with a small pot of gravy to put on top. The gravy was the same as in the pot pie with chunks of carrots and herbs. It was very filling. My boyfriend ordered a plain cheeseburger and he said it was very flavorful, which is a HUGE compliment from him since he always orders things plain. The service was impeccable. I highly recommend it to anyone in the area or passing through. read more

Located at the Dowd's Country Inn, the Latham House Tavern is a relatively new addition to Lyme, NH. The place was packed when I met up with a few old friends but we were immediately seated. So many interesting things on the menu but I went with the wild mushroom bucatini pasta that had sautéed mushrooms and arugula in a creamy manchego cream sauce, served with naan bread. It was excellent! Some items on the menu seemed a bit over-priced, such as the three chicken wings for $3 special on Wednesday nights. The service was a little slow at first but it didn't bother us as we sat and chatted. We stayed well beyond the time it took to eat and our waitress was kind enough to keep refilling our waters and checking if we needed anything else. The atmosphere of Latham House Tavern is warm and cozy, and it feels like it's been in Lyme for years. Next time I go back I look forward to trying more of their vast selection of beers on tap that they have hooked up to their unique beer engine. We had a party of 8 here the other night and had a great time at Latham House Tavern. The selection of beer was fantastic- a lot to choose from on tap. The beer sampler is the way to go- they bring out a paddle which you write your choices on. Fun, and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was alive and buzzing. Warm and clean. Food was fantastic- scallops wrapped in bacon, spicy and salty, beer cheese pretzels were very good on a bed of mustard, the best choices for apps however were the wings (garlic oil sauce was FANTASTIC), and beef tips- slightly spicy on a bed of pureed (cauliflower?)- whatever it was, it was good. Their website says "Best Burger In The Upper Valley". I'm not so sure. The burger I had was large and done as requested. It was juicy. Unfortunately, it had so much charcoal (I assume some sort of seasoning) that I burped it for the next hour. Will I go back? Sure. The atmosphere is appealing. The service was excellent.
