We hit up Latin Twist before going to see Kings of Leon at Benchmark Arena. As always the food was wonderful!!!! Great service too! The restaurant is always clean and everyone is warm and inviting. I can't rave enough about the food. I have tried a bunch of different dishes but the pulled pork, yellow rice and red beans, yucca with onions is my favorite. I am not sure that it's 100% authentic but there are always Spanish speaking customers, that tells me something. The dessert, the cake that is in milk, sorry forgot the name was sooo good. What a happy accident! Driving home from Tampa and was looking for a place with açaí bowls. This place was next door and sounded good. Positive reviews and warm welcome made us stay and order. Plenty of seating with Latin music and self-serve drinks. They offer house made drinks as well as ethnic drinks. We split the Cuban sandwich which was quite possibly the best I've ever had. Perfect crunch on the bread and the meat was tender with lots of flavor. And it was HUGE! We both had plenty with our half. We shared empanadas - one chicken and one beef. It's fast and convenient but not great. The tamales are mostly masa and very dry. The chicken was good and moist. The roast pork is rather bland and the only "juice" is fat drippings which made it seem dry. Yellow rice is mushy and has no flavorful at all. Plantains are good and not over cooked. read more

I placed an order and the day of the service when I called they said they thought it was for the next day. They tried to make it right but honestly I was disappointed. The rice and pork were good but the roasted chicken was more like boiled chicken. Honestly not many ate it. Ended up being donated to food kitchen. Not to mention the prices on the website were from an old menu so it cost me double what I thought. Anyway that was the one and only issue. This is a really wonderful place. Not our first visit but it had been a while. We ordered a Cuban sandwich and some combo fajitas. The Cuban sandwich was perfectly presented, crispy outside and had very fresh ingredients. The combo fajitas came out super hot, fresh tortillas, and they also brought a side of very fresh sour cream. Perfectly cooked, seasoned and delicious. Drinks are self serve and that works fine. It's about time that I update my over 8 year old review. This place has survived the test of time and has been here since July 2011. I'm so happy they are around and they are so nice here. You feel like you are welcome in their home. What grabbed my attention is their sancocho soup. It's getting chilly now so my hubby and I are always looking for something heartwarming. You will find it here with three diff types of meats and different veggies in a wonderful broth. If you want a seafood soup they have seafood asapao which is a seafood rice soup/stew. Needed a bit more condiment or pickles to juice it up. Someone got the Roasted Pork/Pernil Asado with rice and black beans. This was the highlight dish! I like this restaurant because they are most affordable in the area. The price is reasonable with amount of food they have provided on each dish. Basically the amount is good mother and a child or two older person. For young adult is plenty. You will not go hungry after visit. The downside of the restaurant is every thing take too long. It take more 10 minutes after they drop the menu and come to take your order. Often they forget to bring what you need for additional things. The service did take a back seat in this restaurant. It is not they don't have enough help, it just the mentally slow in this restaurant. I got the sautéed palomilla with Mofongo. The first taste is great when dig the outside of mofongo. Phenomenal pork tamales, beef empanadas, sweet plantains, & service! I've found my home:) It's open 11 AM till 8 PM. This restaurant has been open close to 8 years. (It is reopening on Sundays beginning September 8, 2019.) There is free WiFi; the code is posted on the counter. There are two wall televisions. The surround sound Spanish music was a little too loud, but I'm betting it would have been turned down upon request. Three very friendly women were working today. (The owner was not.) A shout out to the lovely tatted woman who had gastric surgery two decades ago. Thank you for the compliment... & the advice. I appreciate it. Had I noticed the "Daily Twist" menu offering (1 entree & 3 sides for $8.25- $9.25- see pic), I would have ordered it. Instead, I selected the Garden Omelette minus the side of toast. I opted for sweet plantains (extra). Both were very good. But the pork tamales ($4.50) & beef empanadas ($2.75) were BEYOND excellent! Just the perfect combination of meat & seasonings. The tamales were unbelievable w/ their moist steamed dough & tender pork strips. The empanadas had a perfectly flaky crust & just the right amount of onion. Both were easily the BEST I've ever had the pleasure of tasting! Seriously. (See pics.) You'll feel right at home here the moment the door closes behind you. You'll be greeted, asked if you're dining in, directed to a table, & offered complementary Cuban pressed bread. Although there's table service, there's a self service drink station (unless it's alcohol you desire; they have that in bottles). My in-laws were in town and have always wanted to try a Cuban sandwich. I was looking for the closest authentic Cuban sandwich to where we lived as we did not want to drive far because they were tired from all the driving from Pennsylvania. I happen to find the Latin Twist on Yelp. How have I been driving past this place for eight years is mind blowing. When we entered the restaurant, the staff immediately greeted us and told us we could sit anywhere we liked. They had no trouble sitting a table of six. We ordered Cuban sandwich (Swiss cheese, salami, ham, pork, mustard, mayo, pickles, and white wine.), black beans and yellow rice, cheese empanada, chicken empanada, flan, and tres leche.
