There was once a bright sparkly Pier 1store on the other side of this strip mall. Now I have a tasty new reason to come back. Welcoming. bright, clean (Ohmygosh, it's spotless in there), with so many nods to Cuba in the decor-and of course, the menu. I didn't study the options before dropping in on a whim, so I'm sure had a deer in the headlights look as I studied the large menu. The kind man at the counter told me the whole menu was available all day. That's excellent-but uh oh, more choices! After going round and round, I settled on a bacon, egg and cheese pressed sandwich -and got it on Cuban toast-which is always good, everywhere you go-but this was especially yum. (that crunch-the butttery ripples running through it. Ohhh my) I wish I could have stayed and enjoyed it there-the couches were so comfy! But I had to take it with me. No worries, tho'. This huge (and I mean HUGE) and perfectly wrapped sandwich stayed warm all the way home. The bacon and egg were both so well cooked-I'll get it without cheese next time. Those are words I've never typed before-but the bread, bacon and egg need all the spotlight. They're sublime. I thought this sandwich was a great value, considering the size and quality. I liked the cheerful interior. There's plenty of parking. And the location sits along Bruce B Downs in New Tampa-right at the foot of the on-ramps to I-75 north and south. I purchased a catering order for a lunch n learn event. The portions were great, the staff was super friendly and helpful. My only complaint was the food was not ready on time. I should have allowed more time in the event they were running late. Their service is very slow. Several customers were commenting about it. I still made it to my event but was a few minutes late. I would still give them another try and order again but put an earlier time to have it ready. The restaurant was very clean and again, the staff was very nice. read more

This is my favorite local Cuban restaurant! The service is always amazing, the staff is so courteous and considerate. The food is outstanding. I frequently order the empanadas, both beef and chicken are delicious. They are filled properly, as opposed to some places that balloon it with air and put only a little filling. They put a lot of filling in their empanadas here. My favorite thing to order here are the sandwiches. They really get it right! I've had the classic Cuban, media noche, and the pan con bistec. The classic Cuban is traditionally made, pressed well, good quality fresh meats, and very tasty. The pan con bistec is my favorite of the sandwiches however. The marinated steak is so flavorful and tender. They do a really good job here. I usually don't eat inside but I do usually wait inside for the food so I can attest to the ambience being friendly, inviting, with plenty of seating, a tv with sports playing and those who take my order always walk it over to me instead of calling my name. Found a new favorite spot!! Everything is a 10 out of 10! The food, the service and the ambiance. I tried them for the first time 4 or so days ago and I've eaten here everyday since! I tried a few things. The Bacon, egg and cheese on Cuban, the steak bowl, the muffin, a French toast sandwich and the key lime pie. Everything is cooked to perfection! The muffin is heated up on the grill and it just takes it up another level! The bacon, egg and cheese and what I went for and its quick, easy and tasty. I don't have not one bad thing to say. Get your self to this place! Wow... No idea what I was missing. They special in all things Cuban with lots of sandwiches to select from besides the standard Cuban sandwich. I have always preferred the Media Noche, which is basically a Cuban sandwich on sweeter yellow bread. Here the bread is so fresh and ingredients spot on with just the right amount of sauce. Also tried the Mojito Pork with lechon, or "young pig" so a velvety meat flavor. This one is delicious too and does have a bit of a "kick" but not overly spicy. Also tried the beef empanada. The meat inside was perfectly marinated and juicy. The deep fried shell was nicely flaky with each bite. This site has seen a number of failed restaurants but none even close to how delicious this chain restaurant is. I'm going to spread the word and keep coming back. Tampa and Miami battle back and forth as to who created today's version of the Cuban sandwich. This chain nails it with their flavors and freshness. Glad I don't have to go all the way to Ybor City to experience my craving for Cuban sandwiches. This place takes my #1 spot away from Las Palmas! Their service and friendliness is better too! This is right off I-75 at Bruce B Downs so perfect for anyone passing by! Only couple items that could have been better: 1) Napkins are the tiniest I've seen. For a finger-food place bigger napkins are important. 2) The Coca-Cola machine was out of all lemonade and lemon flavors. This meant a bunch of drinks weren't available. This is an easy fix. Also had my drink splash down on me, the wall and the floor because the shelf you set the cup on isn't bolted down. 3) They carry only one brand of chips and at time of my visit only had three types. They recently opened up this location in the New Tampa area. They have another location in Riverview. Now, to be honest, my wife and I were looking to eat someplace else but they were really crowded. As we were leaving that restaurant, we saw Box of Cubans. First thought, cigar shop! Then we saw on their sign that they make a Cuban sandwich. Ok! We love Cuban food. This place is big with a lot of tables. They have music playing inside and outside. May be a bit loud for some but it added to the atmosphere. Menu is either up on the wall or there were only 2 laminated menus available. There were a lot of people waiting as it was around lunch time. It was a clean place and decorated nicely. So far, so good. I ordered the Lechon sandwich (marinated pork with onions and cilantro sauce. It was good and tasty. I would have loved to add peppers and cheese. My wife ordered a beef empanadas and liked the flavor. She said that it was "beefy" and nice. She also thought it was bigger than most other stores. The service was very friendly, energetic and helpful. We spent over $21 for our food. Seems a bit high. However, I have noticed the prices for Latin inspired foods in the Tampa area has gone up be it a food truck or restaurant. I would recommend visiting this location. I stopped by Box of Cubans in New Tampa for breakfast before heading over to Lotte Market. Being from South Florida, I'm always interested in trying good Cuban spots and getting a solid café con leche. This place seems fairly new, and they also have another location in Riverview that I haven't been to yet. The staff was super nice--the person at the front was very friendly. The inside is spacious with plenty of seating. It's not quite a café, but more of a casual sit-down spot with a cafeteria-style feel. The menu is pretty large with a lot of unique offerings, which is definitely a plus. I ordered the Pipo's breakfast sandwich, which had lechón, egg, and cheese on Cuban bread. It was a solid sandwich and quite large--I only ate half and took the rest to go. It wasn't anything to write home about though. I also got a side of plantains, which felt a little small for the price, but not a huge deal. The biggest letdown was the café con leche. I think there was an issue with the machine because it took the staff a long time to make it, and when it finally came out, it was really burnt. That was disappointing, especially since the place is called Box of Cubans--good café con leche should be a given. Overall, it's a solid spot, but they might need to work out a few kinks since opening. It took quite a while to get my food, and I noticed other tables experiencing the same issue, even though it wasn't that busy. Amazing experience here! I've driven by the storefront several times and finally got the chance to try it today. From the moment I walked in I was met with such warm energy. The front cashier was so extremely nice and patient with me trying to decide what I wanted. I ordered the Cuban and it was amazing! Very authentic. Came to grab a Cuban sandwich to go. I am obsessed with Cuban sandwiches recently. The person behind the counter was witty and funny, very welcoming! It might have been the owner itself. Good space to sit and eat, causal ambience. The reason I am giving 3 stars ( to start, that might change, I have to try another time since it's also a new place ) is that compared to my favorite places I go to in the area the pork had less flavor, and I like the mustard flavor and pickles at my usual spot better.
