This is an AYCE Vietnamese style hot pot restaurant located next to a grocery store. Dinner is $30/person. It was fun picking the type of broth you wanted but it was hard to share with others and more like shabu shabu style. I was disappointed they didn't have many Chinese hot pot broth flavors and no sauces that were reminiscent of Chinese style hot pot, so that was probably the one negative part of the experience. The ingredients seemed pretty fresh, though meat portions were very small. Also they were quite stingy with the broth refills, and it seemed like you only get one broth refill, so technically that was not AYCE. For the price, I would probably not come back but if I had friends who wanted to try another style of hot pot cuisine, I would come back to show them this place.

    Tom Yum Broth

Food is okay, lack of sauce, service is the opposite. They never checked on us, no refills, and we have to ask for an iPad to order more. Our server disappeared every time, and we have to wave them over, feel like we're pestering them. I've been here over 3 times, and the service stays the same, no improvement. You can get your money's worth somewhere else, where they actually care about their customers.

A buffet and hot pot combination can be a dream come true for those who enjoy having the ability to…read moremix and match or experiment with ingredients, control how it's all cooked, then go back for more. But, as Happy Lamb Hot Pot demonstrates, things that are great in theory aren't always that way in practice, Here's how it works. The first step is to choose a soup base from about half a dozen varieties. You can have one, two or three different types in the same pot (although adding a third will cost extra). Then you choose meat: chicken, beef, lamb or pork. They also offer some premium cuts of beef for an additional fee. Once those are ordered, you visit the buffet where there's a wide selection of seafood, vegetables, sauces and even some foods that don't go into the hot pot, like chicken wings, sesame balls and fried rice. While I loved the fact that there were so many options, it quickly became apparent that some were much better than others. For example, the chicken and lamb were fine, but the non premium beef we got was not the best quality. The seafood and vegetables from the buffet were fresh and plentiful. However, the items that were not hot pot-able left something to be desired, like spring rolls that were cold in the middle, or dried out, overcooked fried dumplings. Our group was big enough to use separate hot pots at our table for a total of 4 soups. The Thai Tom Yum soup base was hands down the best and most flavorful of them all. The worse was the original marrow broth, which had a pungent sour flavor that basically made it inedible. I'm sure through trial and error a fantastic meal could be constructed from what's available here. But, for the price, I won't be in big hurry to return and make the effort.

For those that have a strong smoke aversion like I do within a restaurant, this is a huge red flag. I took a couple of steps in and had the entire cafe of forty to fifty people staring at me, as well as the hostess/waitress that looked at me with a 'WTF do you want' look. Aside from the chilly reception at the door and cigarette stench that tinged the nostrils, the venue was not lit very well. In fact, it could be mistaken for a nightclub that had just dimmed the lights really low, yet why in the middle of the day? And seriously, why do you have a sign up that says "no smoking" when half of your patrons are doing exactly that? Although this is advertised as a cafe, I really felt that I walked into a dirty, stinky bar venue. Given the previous reviews that I had read about Cafe Boulevard prior to venturing out and trying it, I honestly thought that I had the wrong place. I wound up walking out (the only DFW establishment that I've ever walked out of), particularly when I realized that I more than likely wouldn't be welcomed here if I chose a table to sit at. I'm quite sure that this venue is a pretty good place for those that could mind a heavy cigarette stench (not exaggerating) or rude/condescending service. Yet if I have a beignet & coffee craving next time, I'll just save that for a New Orleans-based venue that has far better customer service + cleaner restaurant environment.

Decor and the fish tank remind me of authenticity and pulls me back to a time where I was raised.
