It was overcooked almost to the consistency of mashed potatoes. I did, however, have pieces of raw rice included for no additional charge. GROSS. The service of my driver was great. Food was hot and he hit everything required. His ambiance was superior. The rice was bland and there was no flavor OR spice - AT ALL. They added slices of jalapeño. This was an amazing place for dinner... The owner is a friend from Boy Scouts, His food was incredible. The Peking duck alone was to die for. We had shrimp, lo mein, and multi fried rice and Chinese broccoli with onions and garlic and hot and sour soup. The whole thing was so delicious every bite. I've been eating at this place for a couple years now and they are consistent with the quality and the authenticity of the food. The staff was helpful finding dishes try. The inside is not the cleanest place though. The food is very flavorful and tender. I've ordered over ten different dishes from here and each have been great. I definitely recommend to get the Pork with preserve vegetables which is a pork belly dish that is extremely tender and has a rich braised soy sauce that goes well with rice. The food was just OK. The BBQ pork fried rice had barely any BBQ pork in it and it was very mushy. The crab rangoon had a decent flavor but it was chewy and not crispy. The szechwan chicken was nothing like I expected. It had a decent flavor but not your typical szechwan chicken. It was not at all spicy. The salt and pepper tofu was the best thing I had except that they used soft tofu. The flavor was correct but the texture was way too soft for fried tofu. OLD meat. Went in at lunch today to buy half a pound of roast pork. The owner said he only sell by the pound so I said I'll take a pound. He proceeded to call a lady from the back to cut the pork and weighed it. Came out to be 2.5 lbs. I told him it was too much for just me. She cut off a little more this time it was 1.5 lbs. still too much for just one person. When I told him it was just me, she put the pork back and grabbed one from a plate on the side and a large piece of pork skin which came out to a little over a lbs. at this point I wanted to leave due to their attitude but didn't since they had already cut the pork. BIG mistake. When I got out to the car and checked the my box it was mostly fat and crispy skin. There was hardly any meat, just a few pieces and it was old. Now I know why both of them were laughing. Previously I had came here several time and in the past they had alway over weight meat. If I asked for 1 lbs they pushed 2.5-3 lbs. This is our go-to for great Chinese in Arlington! After moving to Arlington in 2020 we quickly found this gem while checking out what was in Ben Thanh Plaza. We've been here many, many times here but oddly have never tried the roast duck meal. One day we will! However we ALWAYS order their roast duck noodle soup, which is amazing! Not sure how a dish can be both comfort food and exciting, but it is. And I think I can say that about everything we've tried here. We've tried several dishes but keep going back to a few favorites, like the soup. From our latest meal there, we had the duck soup - of course, beef with snow pea leaves, salt and pepper soft shell crab, and mapo tofu - all excellent. Other dishes we've ordered more than once are the pork belly with preserved vegetables, snow pea leaves with garlic, combination fried rice, and Singapore and Cantonese rice noodles. Pricing is moderate, even fairly inexpensive for some things. Hubby and I usually order enough food for like 6-8 people and get out of there for less than $100. Don't judge! We like leftovers! We've always had good service from our very first visit. The owner is a man of few words and maybe can come off as a bit short (don't ask for any substitutions!), but we've never found him, or anyone else there, to give bad service or to be rude in any way. Quite the opposite, and now I guess we're semi-regulars so we're always treated warmly. FYI, the only think I dislike - and it has nothing to do with the restaurant - is the only restroom (that I know of) is in the back of the food court, quite a ways away from this restaurant. Crispy squid 4/5 Pretty good, crispy , squid not chewy, perfectly seasoned, portion ok, but... the chopped fried garlic was burnt... they were black .. somehow ruined the aesthetic of the dish. Wonton soup 4/5 Still below first Chinese and lucky city wonton soup but good. Shaken beef 4/5 Buttery, some chunks were tender, some chewy. Overall very good. Heck I ate lettuce with just the sauce and it tasted good. Fried spicy tofu 3/5 This dish was a little different from what I'm used to. At other places when I order this dish.. although the name is spicy and crispy tofu .. it's not actually spicy. Only the garnish (jalapeños and fried chopped garlic) is. Quaint and clean restaurant located in new Ben Thanh Plaza. My daughters and I went on a weeknight almost near closing. It was not crowded but the staff was busy and they still took in a few parties after us. It is family style ordering m. The service was quick and the food came out piping hot. We had a unpleasant occurance at our usual restaurant with the owner, while letting him know the duck wonton noodles soup was blend with one stem of buck choy, it tasted like hot water in noodles instead of tasty noodles soup. So to start off I wish I could give two sets of star rating because the customer service could use some work. It wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either just a heavy language barrier. I did not know that the Peking Duck was a meal all on its own I assumed it was a type of duck because they have two different color ducks in the display window. So I asked for the Peking duck in my duck fried rice and the guy seemed frustrated explaining that the Peking duck is a meal not the fried rice. I understood the dishes and just confirmed that my meal would have roast duck. He didn't have to get frustrated I'm not familiar with how the meal is made. But the meal slapped harder than a mugg though. I loved it. Well seasoned nice roasted duck plenty of egg and green onions mixed in and you needed absolutely no soy sauce. The guy also said they only take cash but there's a credit card machine and there are several signs on the register that say 30 dollar minimum for credit cards. Will I visit again not sure. Ok this is my new go to place when I'm in arlington and I need a fix. King's is closed and dead. I wept for days. I came here and got over it. hahaha I got 2 bbq items: roast duck and bbq pork (chasiu). I wanted the roast pork, but they didn't have anymore by the time I went to eat. GRRR. i also got the Ma Po Tofu, one of my favorite dishes. The BBQ items were right on it. Duck was perfectly crispy and oily and meaty. The chasiu was tender and i didn't get the burnt hard yucky pieces. It was all so juicy and delicious. The mapo tofu was spicy and awesome. The flavors were exactly how I like them, not too salty and not So hot that your mouth is on fire. Obviously it was alot of food, so I took half of it home. All items were even better the next day. (or next meal...hahaha) Must go back to eat more. read more

Oh 'em gee!!! Hands down best Chinese BBQ spot I've been to! Needed the trio of whole roast duck, steam/boiled/soy sauce chicken, and roast pig for Lunar New Years' offering. Unfortunately, They didn't have any soy sauce chicken whole with the head on so we had to settle on the boiled chicken. The lady at the counter assured that it was good and it sure did not disappoint, nothing disappointed, only exceeded and set the new bar. Since transplanting here in DFW area, we have not found a good, I'll be back type of Chinese places. We have family all over the country and we have gone to the local "best" spots and TBH they were good, I'd say we were spoiled in CA and that edged out the spot in Philly slightly. But wow! Golden Chinese BBQ set a new bar. Normally we probably will end up eating only half of a duck, but we devoured a whole duck. It was a good thing we bought two, one for tasting and the other for the offering. The we reheated the duck, and normally you end up losing some crisp but their duck skin stayed crispy and the meat was oh so flavorful. But enough about the duck as the chicken was similar to the chicken you get in Singapore (hainan chicken rice) and the roast pork had a nice crispy skin and the meat was perfect, you didn't need the accompanying sauce. The food at this restaurant is authentic and okay so it's a go to place if you want Chinese BBQ dishes. However, owners both husbands and wife are extremely rude if you ask them any question. Service if 1-5, I would give them zero. Last year they stopped taking credit card if it's below $35. They prefer cash, which originally was okay for me bc I regularly ordered the same $9.25 dish. Since my dish was $9.25 plus tax. So I know they put tips on my tap when they told me $11. I continued to pay them that amount until now they told me twelve dollars. I said tips should be earned and not a given. They told me I never paid tips. Really? They didn't give me water and took away the small bowl when I went. Saw this place at the Asian food court and decided to give them a call for lunch as I was craving my Hong Kong crunchy deep fried noodles with pork & mushroom sauce (no idea what it's called in English) as well as some Yang Zhou fried rice. Once he replied he had both of what I wanted, I ordered them right away. When I got each one, the portions were huge! Each dish was big enough to put you in a food coma or feed 1.5 to 2 people. The best thing was that it came at a great price as my total was under $20 for both items. Would highly recommend going here for lunch as the food was authentic Cantonese food and the price is just unbeatable! Only thing is they take cash only unless you spend like over $35 or $40. I was unaware nor had the cash at the time the owner made an exception for me that time. Wouldn't be a bad idea for them to charge a fee or percentage if total is under a certain amount but their sign stated they just don't take card under that amount. When I tried to leave them a tip because I was using my card he wouldn't let me lol. Excellent Chinese BBQ Place Ever since the King Chinese BBQ down the road on Pioneer Parkway closed shop, we've had a difficult time finding a comparable replacement. First Chinese BBQ, while also quite popular and always busy, quite doesn't cut it. The difference is night and day. When we tried the Golden Chinese BBQ, we found a great place that is almost to the same level as King Chinese BBQ. The place is clean (much cleaner than First) and the food is fresher and tastier than First. We've tried the Pork BBQ, Roast Pork, Stir-fry Chinese Broccoli, Wonton Soup, Beef Stew Wonton Soup, Roast Duck Noodle Soup, Beef with Flat Noodles, Beef with Bitter Melon and they were all excellent. The one flaw with this place that stopped me from rating it 5 stars is the service. The owner is friendly and courteous. However, I cannot say the same with the rest of the staff. They're not rude or anything, they're not very attentive at time and are not very friendly. I am not sure if this is a culture thing but we have experienced similar engagement with King Chinese BBQ and First Chinese BBQ (in all of their branches in Garland, Richardson, Arlington and NRH(or was that Haltom City?)) We're not from the DFW area but we come for a visit at least every month, sometimes thrice. We always stop by a Chinese BBQ place before heading home. I in particular love the noodle soups--either the Beef Stew Wonton Noodle Soup or the Roast Duck Wonton Noodle Soup and I've tried this in all the above places. For any connoisseur of Chinese food, this place will be one that you will need to try out. When King's closed its doors months ago, I cried salty and spicy tears, but then, I found this restaurant, and my tears dried up. Located inside the Ben Thanh Marketplace, you will see Golden Chinese BBQ next to the door. Inside is a rather small restaurant with maybe 8-9 booths and a few tables. You'll see a display case with ducks and maybe a pig hanging and ready for you to take home. Sit down and peruse the menu to see the large variety that is offered. There are pork, chicken, beef, tofu, seafood, and vegetable dishes, as well as soups and congee. Normally with two people, we get two dishes and share, but I wanted to try more dishes to see how Golden Chinese compared with other places. We ordered: fried tofu (salty & spicy), prawns and walnuts, beef and Chinese broccoli, and eggplant with pork. (Remember: Not greedy, just doing investigative reporting.) The fried tofu is fantastic! It's light and crunchy with the right amount of salt, but could be a tad more spicy. The walnuts wear a mayonnaise-type glaze and come on a small bed of crunchy noodles and garnished with slightly sweetened walnuts.It is a good dish. The eggplant and pork crumbles have a wonderful flavor. It was a tad too sweet for me, and I could do without that, but overall: Yummy! The beef and Chinese broccoli is the classic Chinese dish, and Golden Chinese does it justice. Overall, I was quite pleased with this trip to GC BBQ. A year ago, I remember we sat in the parking lot of Ben Thanh Plaza and my husband wanted to eat here, but then he decided he didn't want to try any of the restaurants here. Such a strange bird he is. A year later, we rediscovered this place. Finally we got to try out some of the restaurants here. They aren't very busy compared to their neighbor Hu Tieu My Tho, but I've noticed that they get more to go orders than anything. First visit, we got the bbq plate and chinese beef soup to share. I loved it all. Loved the crispiness of the duck. I also really liked the chinese beef soup. Good flavor. After that visit, I've had the wonton noodle soup and the oyster pork hot pot. I've now gotten takeout from Golden Chinese BBQ a few times. Given the lack of decent Chinese food this side of Plano, I will be back (I live in South Fort Worth and Golden Chinese isn't too far compared to the Plano options). I can't recall everything we've ordered, but I'll call out a few of the things I remember. Top line - this is an above average Chinese restaurant. It's a bit hole in the wallish, but I am fine with that (and sort of prefer it with Chinese food). This is clearly a Chinese BBQ place, as they have ducks and ribs hanging at the counter. The food has decent flavor, but it is missing some spice. Some specific dishes: - Duck fried rice - this was good, if you like Chinese duck. The 5-spice flavor is really pronounced and the duck adds a good richness to the rice. This was above expectation. - Hot and sour soup - this was decent. It was missing the tang I expect, but we added some rice vinegar and that seemed to do it. My family eats a lot of hot and sour soup... this was not the best, but I would get it again. - Mapo tofu - this was below average. Mapo tofu should punch you in the mouth a little. This did not. It was not bad, but it needed significantly more Szechuan peppercorns and hot chili. - Szechuan green beans - these were excellent. Lots of ground pork that added tons of flavor. - Chicken with broccoli - this was very disappointing. The chicken was a little gummy. The sauce was bland. The broccoli was overpowering (and not in a good way). We've gotten other dishes, but I don't remember exactly which. There was a tofu dish that was really good. There were other misses. If you like Chinese food, I recommend Golden Chinese. I especially recommend it if you are looking for Chinese BBQ. read more

Had visited years ago, and was excited to see if the memory lived up to the test of time. Wow, did it ever! Steamed buns and roast duck were a combination that could not be beaten! Fried rice was incredible!! Service was courteous and attentive.
