I've never written a Yelp review before, but I have had quite a negative experience with Laundry 23 recently. I had been using them on and off for their premium "well-heeled" wash and fold service for the past year or so. This tier is supposed to follow washing instructions on each article and handled with care is what they claim. Most of the time, I had no problems with them, and when I did have issues, I chalked them up to minor miscommunication mishaps since the owner seemed to be a non-native English speaker. I have a soft spot for small business owners. My past issues are consistent with some of the negative reviews already posted (e.g. store decided to dry clean instead of wash & fold and charging me extra). This time, however, the issue is that I sent out my laundry that included a machine-washable white couch cover and that couch cover came back to me with massive black stains. I contacted Laundry23 and requested that they fix the stains. They did pick it back up and the owner told me he washed it five times and sent it back. I was traveling, so I checked the cover a few days later upon returning. The stains (that THEY caused) were still too visible to ignore, which is what prompted my text in the screenshot. The owner's responses are highly unprofessional, unapologetic, and aggressive as you can see in the picture. I'm not a business owner, but the first thing I would do if one of my staff ruined a customer's item would be to apologize and to attempt rectifying the damage (or compensating for the damage). Instead, the owner tells me to wash it myself. He also refused to provide a refund. Basically, most of the time, you won't have a problem but when you do... the owner is beyond rude and unprofessional. Very unpleasant to deal with and quite unreasonable. Mistakes happen, but at least take own up to it as a business owner. That's just basic courtesy. read more

Top tier service. Wash and fold turnaround time is usually same day, next day at the latest. When clothes get to the state where they come out of the wash still feeling grimy, I send them here and they're returned as good as new. Prices are great as well, it's always been under 20$ for a wash and fold, usually around 16$ for me as I bring smaller loads. They accept card payment for 15$ and over. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. These people are frauds. I had been using laundry project consistently twice a month for 4 months until they took most of my wash & fold order, dry cleaned it (without my permission or my acknowledgement), and charged me $180.00. When I showed them that I did not order dry cleaning and only ordered wash & fold, they wouldn't listen or be reasonable. Instead the owner YELLED at me, took my clothes away from me, and told me, "you either pay 180.00 or you don't get your clothes." I once again showed proof of my order (screen shot below) and asked for him to show me where they got a dry cleaning order, and he couldn't show me any evidence or even properly explain why they dry cleaned half of my clothes that definitely did not need dry cleaned.... Unfortunately, I needed my clothes that day so I had to pay the money, but now I am taking them to court for theft and mis charging me. On top of everything, they fucking dry cleaned my 10 year old Ohio state T-shirt (picture below) AND the dry cleaned clothes STILL STINK AND HAVE STAINS ON THEM ....if this doesn't say this place is a farce...idk what will. read more

Used the laundry service while I was visiting New York. Communication service was really poor for the value. I paid $30 to get my clothes washed and delivered. I had a friend who paid $10 for different laundry service in the area for double the amount of clothes I washed. I asked for lights and darks separated and most of the communication for pickup/delivery was done over text and phone. The representative i was talking to wasn't very clear on details for pricing, delivery options, and just the overall process. He even asked that I pay ahead of time- why would I do that?? But I was in a rush to get laundry done, so I had to go with them. Someone from the service picked up my clothes and gave me no estimated completion time. I had to call the store in order for them to tell me that my clothes had been ready, but they were waiting on payment. (Why didn't they update me?) They asked that I pay by cash or credit over the phone- I wasn't super comfortable giving my credit info over the phone so I opted for cash. When they delivered my clothes, I realized I was short $5, so I told the guy that I'd have to pay with card. He gave me an annoyed sigh, called the store, and made me talk to his boss on his grimey phone to make the payment. When it came to the actual quality of the service- noticed some of my shirts caught lint and my blank tops lost color. A lot of my clothes seem worn down- probably as a result of drying on very high heat or not separating the lights and darks to dry. I sent out my laundry during a business trip to NYC and was promised it would be returned by Thursday (in writing), as I informed them that I have an early flight the following day - I was to spend two weeks internationally and these were all the clothes I had. Once Thursday came around, no clothes were delivered. About 20+ calls were made, several text messages and an email with no response til the following day when I was already on my flight. I now am traveling internationally with no clothes and they still insisted that I pay even though I was not able to receive my clothes in time before leaving. I used this place a few times. The staff is very friendly and their service is quick. Unlike a lot of places in NYC where you have to wait on line, due to overcrowding of urban environments, just to drop off your clothing and the then the transaction seems to take forever, this place was hassle free! I didn't have to wait on line and the transaction was quick end efficient. I was also able to pick up my clean clothing the very next day which was great! Absolutely devastated. I had a dress rush delivered here on a Tuesday for an event I was attending that Saturday weekend. I was evaluating different options in the area - many of which offer same day alterations and/or quick turn around times - but I went with this company based on their promise to have my dress done on time with reasonable pricing. It was agreed upon and printed on my ticket that it would be finished by that Thursday evening. The day of the pickup I called for a status update and was told it was not ready and they would call me back. They never called me back and I called several times only for them to hang up on me each and every time. I went in person and they told me the dress was not there and they cannot get in contact with the person who has the dress. They were refusing to remiburse me saying that they will get the dress to me when they can get in contact with the person who has the dress off premises (which wouldn't be until after the event it was purchased for). After a lot of back and forth, I finally got them to write me a check for the price of the dress but I am still at a loss as they refused to refund the expedited shipping or taxes for the dress that is now useless because it is pass the event it was purchased on rush delivery for and cannot be returned. They are a dishonest and non-apologetic business. read more

This is a truly superior place to have clothes washed and folded with care. I called on a Saturday afternoon and got my clean and expertly folded clothes back on Sunday! This timing exceeded my expectations. The person I texted and spoke with was very kind and clear about when my clothes would be picked up and returned. All of my washing instructions were followed, including using truly scent free detergent. (Hurray! I have allergies so this is important.) Also it was obvious that the clothes were washed and dried properly. They didn't feel "beaten up" like when a certain web-based laundry service provider did them. The folding is so perfect that wrinkles are not an issue. I am so happy and will use them again and again. Update: I have had 3 or 4 subsequent great experiences with LP23. I am totally spoiled and happy. I have no desire to do my own laundry when they do such a great job and so are so quick. read more

I went to Laundry Project 23 to get an evening gown altered for a wedding. I first came by them to get a quote via Yelp and their quote came in much lower than others! The owner was very friendly and responsive. After I picked up my dress with the alternations I thought maybe the straps were too short so the owner offered me a prepaid receipt to get it redone if I wanted. As it turns out the straps are fine after I went home to try it on properly, so didn't need to go back, but it was a nice gesture. The work only took 4 days, which was a lot shorter than the other places that were asking two weeks. Great service and good results! read more
