I am uttery confused. First off, when you venture into one of these diners (Chinese Canadian food), there's a rule. That rule is, they're run by first generation Cantonese dialect speakers that no other standard Canto speakers can understand. Well, half of my statement was correct. I, indeed could not understand what they were saying, but it wasn't a Cantonese dialect. It was Mandarin. Huh?????? Since when did this happen? Not only that, there was lamb on the menu. Mind you, it was written in Chinese, so I'm wondering, who's their target customer base?? Lamb is not a very common Cantonese staple. It's there but not common. Were they expecting Mainland Chinese from the Xinjiang areas to be eating here? Well they're missing cumin then. I dunno. I'm making wild guesses. Doubtful any traditional Canto eaters would be coming here, so I wonder why they have lamb on the menu. We were the only Asians in a Chinese Canadian joint run by Asians. You'll notice that there's also Japanese food on the menu. Not only that, there's a Japanese curry pork cutlet on rice offered - but it's written in Chinese with no English translation. *** Face Palm*** I ate the Western food. There was no Chinese translation. What happened there? It was pretty decent. I knew what I was getting so I can't really bash it. It is what it is. It's a diner. A greasy spoon diner. But what I ate, it wasn't greasy. Not sure what happened there either. It was missing flavour. The flavour of vitamin G. I really wonder how many people that have come here have ordered the curry lamb on rice or the Japanese curry pork cutlet on rice. Only the Chinese readers would have ordered it. My wild guess is, they don't get very many. Family run and they're very friendly. Visa/MC accepted. WIFI too.. Bugers!!!

    * Canadian Chinese diner * Mix stereotypical Canadian Chinese food with stereotypical diner food, and you've got Laura's Coffee Shop. Seeing some of the Canadian Chinese food on some other tables, I opted for the diner food. Canadian Chinese food is just way too "exotic" for me. Kind of like this: http://www.yelp.ca/biz/iron-wok-chinese-express-vancouver#hrid:idpSLQ7t6xiaO7uFEW0b6Q The club sandwich was fairly run of the mill. It was served on supermarket quality bread, cut in half instead of quarters. It had very thinly sliced supermarket quality turkey roll, shredded lettuce, tomato, some bacon, and for good measure a fried egg (that was a new one for me). I'm not a huge fan of supermarket turkey roll, so the meat was a disappointment, as was the bread. The egg was a nice touch though and was cooked with the yolk just slightly runny - nice. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/XMpWwKD-J1rRaxBwUxaU8g?select=1tU--SFKwqvFCFHQ-V8hdQ The sandwich came with fries - which were those coated fries that taste like they get double fried. They were hot and freshly fried, but I couldn't help but think of big bags of frozen fries sitting in the back. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/XMpWwKD-J1rRaxBwUxaU8g?select=uknDio4HZyHAoB5__xjmZg Overall I wouldn't rush back. If I was in the neighbourhood and stuck in a pinch I may pop in for lunch again.

Well... Seem little bit cheap and weird to me... But It's kind of funny tough...!!

Revolver is what I'd consider a multi-roaster shop with a focus on the coffee first. The bar is made up of high quality small batch grinders, perfect for grinding fresh for each cup, and a long line of pour over setups to give each cup the attention it deserves. Behind the bar you can see an Aiden by Fellows for quick batch brewing quality beans to the standards of the specialty coffee association or quick recipe testing. The menu is predominantly descriptions of the coffees they're currently brewing with a few classic and simple coffee preparations like a latte and a cortado, but nothing too involved because they focus on the coffee itself. I really liked how they separated the coffees by flavor profile so you could key in on the type of beans and roast you prefer. They offered several natural, honey, and anerobic options, which made me happy. My friend isn't a coffee geek like I am, so it was fun to see which he gravitated to and enjoy that alongside my choice, which was totally opposite. The barista side of the shop is long and narrow, with the bar predominating, but there's a great sitting area right next door that I didn't even notice until we were leaving. I'd hoped to buy a bag of beans to take with me but none of the ones we tried were available. Good sign I suppose, but sad for me. Next time!

We ordered the following: Tiramisu Latte Caprese Bite London Fog Apple Cookie Cherry Matcha Tonic Tiramisu Sea Salt Caramel Gelato The Cherry Matcha Tonic was pretty but wasn't too crazy about the flavor. I should have just gone with my original gut instinct and chosen a hot beverage like Hojicha Latte or something like that. I was sort of thirsting for something cooler for a change though, and the Cherry Matcha Tonic was the first "cool" drink that caught my eye so I decided to go for it. Won't do that again. Everything else was good though. The Sea Salt Caramel Gelato was the star of the show! In the store there's a sign beneath their gelato section that says "Canadian Gelato Champion". I believe it after tasting the Sea Salt Caramel! They had Nama Chocolates too. I was tempted to get some but...only so much a person's wallet and waistline can handle at one time. Will try the Nama Chocolate some other time. You can order in person here, or you can place an "Express" order at the Kiosk. We tried both ways of ordering. Ordered at the counter first and then after finished my Cherry Matcha Tonic decided I wanted to try the Sea Salt Gelato so then tried ordering that from the Kiosk. Most of the parking in this area is paid but I lucked out and got a free spot right around the corner from this place!

I could tell even from outside that it's a popular work and study type of coffee shop with your free wifi and outlets. I hope this post doesn't give it away and make it way too crowded for me to find a seat next time. There's a steady flow of people visiting the stores while I was there on a weekday between late afternoon and early evening but there's always extra seat for anyone new looking for a desk to work or chat with friends. A few could be better are the pricing and temperature. They offer free oat milk substitute and -$0.35 for bringing your own cup but no more employee discount. And it was so cold in there, I could see a lot of people kept their winter jackets on, I don't think it's a heating issue but the constant windy seems to suggest the AC is on rather than the heater, oh wells Im out of there now. For that reason, unless I'm bundled up, it'll be a hard sale to be back again! I got a hojicha latte and it as pretty good, perfect sweetness and temperature for my cold with no ice. The barista was super great to work with.

Knowing how good 49th Parallel is with coffee I thought I'd try their version of the London Fog. I wasn't disappointed. In fact it was best London Fog I've ever had. I've had them at other places but I've never seen a preparation like 49th. They use loose leaf Earl Gray tea in a tall paper tea bag. They put the bag in your cup pour the steamed milk in and the tea steeps right into the milk. It's the smoothest London Fog I've had and isn't cloyingly sweet like many I've had.

I was in need of a snack and this was a short walk from our hotel. 49th Parallel is well known for their thoughtfully sourced, house-roasted coffees and their cult-favorite donuts, but they also offer a small menu of sandwiches if you're looking for something more filling. It wasn't too busy when we got there, though most of the tables were taken. We ordered a mix of sweet and savory: the chestnut brûlée donut, a salted caramel old fashioned, and a couple of breakfast sandwiches--the Doug and the Cascadia--both served on soft, buttery brioche buns. My other half also grabbed an Americano to go with it all. The chestnut brûlée donut was my fav of the bunch. The chestnut flavor was perfectly balanced--nice and light. The sandwiches were also good, especially thanks to that pillowy soft brioche. Overall, 49th Parallel was the perfect stop for a small, simple snack! Would recommend.
