This place is great. It's a cafe with an extensive and elaborate menu of hot food that I was mistaking as a restaurant prior to visiting. I'm not sure how they manage to operate like that but it got a great cafe vibe and friendly staff. I came here to catch up over coffee with a friend but I'll have to come back for their food next time!

Very good belly warming chilli on a cool Vancouver morning. An oasis in a part of town that's a food desert. Excellent service and cleanres

Beside the franchise coffee shops, this is another good little café on Main St. I just picked this café to meet with my friend for chic chatting. My mocha was great!! My friend's green tea latte was fantastic too! Staffs were friendly and we got an extra 2 cups of hot water after an hour chatting. Just a bit disappointed coz the tables were dirty and no one really clean up the mess!

What an outstanding independent cafe in the heart of Vancouver's little India! The Victoria Arduino espresso machine was a big surprise and the high quality JJbean single origin we had in our french press couldn't have been better. I was super-stoked to see they also carry Eight-Fold-Eats gluten free (and vegan) baked goods. The place is big and bright, has wireless and comfortable seating and even a patio. We were served by the owners who we found to be genuine, down to earth and friendly. I know we'll be coming back again when we visit this very unique neighbourhood.

True to my word, i did try their butter chicken poutine. Normally i'm a traditionalist as i usually luv my butter chicken seperate w/ the indian rice, but one of their workers highly recommended this as their signature dish. Generous toppings of cheese curds, purple onions, chilli sauce, and the taste of butter chicken has to rank right up there...enough for 2 ppl to share, under $10 too.

All set to be wowed. I ordered a Cappuccino and went to use the facilities. It was a disaster paper overflowing from the bin, no soap in the dispenser ! Paper coming off the roller ? I mentioned it to the counter, she went to attend to it. Cap was good but the mood was ruined. Lots of boxes on the floor, and generally looked untidy. Sorry Roots you miss the mark.

Butter Chicken Fries. Chicken pieces were so small they were almost invisible. And I only got 6 of them. Only tasted milk in the latte.

The 2-star is just for the sauce of butter chicken fries. Overpriced, average taste and bad service. Just moved to this neighborhood and saw the reviews so decided to give this a try. Roots is only 2 mins walk from my place. Saw Free WiFi sign on the outside of the cafe. Went there at around 4:30 in the afternoon. There were quite a number of students there who were chatting pretty loud. Went in to order Butter Chicken Fries and Matcha Latte. Butter chicken fries tasted good with all the sauce and cheese but the chicken pieces were smaller than the size of my one tooth, and I only got a total of 6 tiny pieces. For a $10+ fries I expected a little more meat than that. The matcha latte looked green enough but all I could taste is the milk. No matcha flavor at all. But the worst of all is the rudeness of the cashier. As I was paying by card, the machine restarted itself half way so I decided to pay with cash instead. I paid $20 for my $15 something bill and the cashier gave me changes with toonies. I was going to give a 10% tip so I was looking through my coin purse for a loonie. Maybe the cashier thought I wasn't going to tip her and that's when she started acting rude. I went to sit at the corner of the cafe. I laid out my laptop and stuff and realized I needed the WiFi password. I looked around but didn't see it posted anywhere. So when I went to the counter for my latte I asked the cashier what their WiFi password is. She said it but I wasn't sure how it spells. She gave an impatient sigh and spelled me half of the password and then said 'you know it's the same password written outside the cafe.' and then she walked away. Hello?!? I have all my belongings out at my seat and there were a lot of other people in the cafe. But fine, I walked outside and look at every single spot on the window and door and NO PASSWORD POSTED. In the neighborhood there are tons of different food choices and with the price I was paying I could have gotten something better and tastier with much bigger and filling portion. And the refusal of a WiFi password wasn't allowing me to relax there and do some work while eating. Definitely NOT going back.

The taste of the fillings was very well balanced with nothing being overpowering. I could taste every single ingredient yet they went together very well! I particularly liked the stracciatella cheese. It added a fluffy and soft texture to the sandwich. The shop was small, cozy and well decorated. There were some available seats when I was there at around 1:30pm. There was no line as the peak lunch hour had passed. They made my sandwich immediately so I didn't have to wait at all.

Italiana was so good. Double Prosciutto!! Truffle flavor was strong and paired with stracciatella cheese. What a great combination! And Arugula was very fresh. Foccacia was very crispy outside and soft inside. One of the best sandwich. I will order again. Monte cristo was also good. Grilled bread was very crispy and nicely pressed. Provolone and prosciutto cotto combination was great, too. Sundried totamto provided great accent. I will order this one again, too. Overall, it was a great sandwich shop. Highly recommend.

There are some small tables for two along with high tables. I ordered the 'hot' sandwich, chicken parm. I was expecting crispy chicken parm with yummy cheese and rich tomatoe sauce. Let's be honest, the star of this show is the bread! The baguette was warm, soft and so delicious. However, that's where the excitement stopped for me. The chicken with breading was soggy and the pesto and mozzarella was such a small amount, it felt like a soggy chicken sandwich with lots of bread. If they put more pesto dressing, more mozzarella cheese and more tomatoe sauce, I could have looked past the soggy chicken. All in all, I'm glad it tried it, the bread is amazing, and I'll come back to try a 'cold' sandwich to see if the other options are better!

We walked over after getting off the Granville Island ferry at the Aquatic Centre stop. There wasn't a line, and our sandwiches came out quickly after ordering. - Reuben Sandwich -- tender meat, just the right amount of tang from the sauerkraut and cured meats, finished with their house-made mustard and a crunchy pickle on the side. - Lemon Rosemary Chicken (no cheese) -- light yet filling; the greens added freshness, avocado gave it the perfect moistness, and the light jalapeño kick tied it all together. - Garlic Bread -- buttery, garlicky, and crisp; the texture fell perfectly between a Vietnamese baguette and a ciabatta roll -- ideal snack for the walk.
