Just had one of those Portland moments... when you go to some old Portland place and it... kinda blows your mind! This Moreland Theatre is really cool... opened back in 1926. Back in the day, the Moreland presented vaudeville acts along with silent pictures! This place has a really nice vibe, it's huge, great sound and picture quality... great popcorn! We went during the afternoon, tickets were just $5.50.... popcorn $4.... Super cool people working there, locally owned. Worth checkin' out

New favorite theater! It is, I believe, 95 years old and there is only one screen. It has so much character from the architecture to the fact that they serve alcohol. Lol! I really loved that they had what looked like a disruptive child area by the women's restroom- or perhaps if you wanted extra privacy to nurse. But I did wish there was more than one ladies toilet- I could see that being potentially problematic. We saw Aladdin here and really loved it- the staff was also friendly, we commiserated over the poor casting choice of Emma Watson as Belle in Beauty and the Beast. She's great and I love her, but Belle is a singing role!! Luckily Disney did better casting for Aladdin, it was perfect! Oh I almost forgot to mention, for being an old theater the seats were recently updated so nice and super comfortable!

I absolutely LOVE the Moreland. I've lived in the neighborhood and have been going to this theater since I moved here 9 years ago. Super friendly people, great prices, and VERY comfy Seats. If you read the reviews of people complaining about small seats.. I'd suggest you look at who is writing the reviews. If you're not a fatass, the seats are fine. This is truly a neighborhood gem and I'm happy to continue patronizing it, and suggest that you do as well.

The Moreland feels like a relic from a time long gone. A golden age of movies, when it was somewhat of a fancy experience. When I walk up to the Moreland today, I can imagine people strolling up in tuxedos and gowns, buying two tickets and walking through the red curtains to a world of magic. Maybe the Moreland was never that majestic, but it is now a great place to buy a cheap ticket for a new movie, and slip into the magical darkness of a movie theater for a couple hours. This is the kind of neighborhood theater where you could just waste an afternoon. I saw a movie by myself here and never felt out of place. It's not as weird as going to a stadium mall theater and paying 12 bucks to sit by yourself among couples canoodling. I have also come here on dates and with friends, and it's a great atmosphere for whatever group you're in. It may be not be the most modern theater, but it's fairly clean and well-kept for it's age. The people are always very friendly as well! (Cash only!)

The Moreland Theatre is easy to like. And easy to hate. It's one of those places that I'll go back to again and again despite not fully enjoying the experience. So, here, take the bitter and the sweet and come to your own conclusion. The Bitter: * The entire theater is cash only * The seats are uncomfortable and in need of repair * Not a single cup holder in the joint * The bathrooms are pretty dismal * The only way to get a drink is to sneak it in yourself The Sweet: * Tickets are really cheap ($5 before 6 pm and $7.50 after 6 pm) * Concessions are really cheap * It's a quaint theater, showing a single movie at a time * It's a historic location, built in the 20s for vaudeville acts * It's close to several good bars and restaurants

It's expensive but you're paying for the experience and I'd say it's worth it once in a while. I saw 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple here, kind of a weird choice for a movie theatre where you eat dinner- it was pretty gnarly. The good: -couches/comfy seating -actual food -friendly staff -neat atmosphere The less good but not necessarily bad: -having to wait to be brought to the theatre by a host -much more expensive than a regular movie theatre -no cherry coke (but they do offer a Roy Rodgers) -the popcorn is REALLY buttery which is cool if you're into that but I was overwhelmed by the sogginess

One thing that is neither positive nor negative is the sound in the theater, while it is very clear it is also extremely loud. I am not typically someone with sensitive hearing but if you are on either far side of the theater please prep like you're going to be right in front of speakers at a large concert (I have started to bring ear buds with noise cancelling due to the ear/head pain from sitting nearer to the walls). The positives: great film quality, comfortable seating, easy to purchase tickets. The cons: pricey menu that I have yet to feel is worth the price poin for the quality of food you recieve (also specials are rushed through before sitting), cleanliness of seating has been 50/50, parking availability can be difficult, each time we have gone food timing feels disruptive to the film. The last film we saw (Scream 7) food was still being delivered to people with 20 minutes left of the film.

The cashier was really sweet. She was rebooking a lot people for the next day or two later. But, she was able to get us in for the 10:20 showing while we went to grab a bite to eat. Got a small bag of popcorn and raisin nets for $12.00. Things have definitely changed he wasn't too happy but, he knows I gotta have it (lol). Seats were spacious and very comfortable reclining chairs (w/ foot rest). It had a few compartments for your snacks and drinks on either side. I like the fact that it's several rolls of seats but, not too many of you get my drift. We were directly in middle but, to the right. I felt we were to close until the previews stared and it was just right. A lot of people did have to move because they were seating in other people seats and, it was completely sold out. It has plenty of parking with very clean restrooms on both sides. I would highly recommend this Cinemark we are planning to go again we want to see Scream 7.

This last visit had one person doing concessions and checking people out yet she was doing it better than I have experienced at theaters with a lot of people working. Also, having someone actually layer the butter and be mindful. It is nice. Their seats are great and have useable cup holders and stretch out plus the way the screens are angled so you are not dislocating you neck trying to see the screen. I highly recommend getting their monthly deal because it pays for itself immediately. You get one movie credit for the $11.99 and a movie is over $13 plus you save % on all concessions. I get a $3 off concessions coupons by earning points all the time and you can reserve seats without paying extra! And if you do not use you free movie credit for that month it rolls over so it is such a great deal! There are quite a few movies I have noticed that they show later in the evening also and I am much more likely to go to later movies.

Just east of the river, in the middle of a residential part of Portland lies this little theater. Something I was not expecting to see when I was invited to watch a friend's movie that he filmed. Let me share some information on what to expect before coming here: * Parking * Once you spot the place and drive past it, you won't find a garage anywhere. Street parking only. So be cognizant of street parking signs as well. * The Theater * A classic type of theater reminiscent of days passed with a marquee above the entrance. Upon entering, there isn't much of a lobby, but a concession stand selling everything from candy, popcorn, and drinks. They even sell beer and wine, and local canned ciders. I also heard, they're cool with you bringing in food from outside. Just not alcohol, which is understandable. Although the lobby is narrow, i still loved looking up at the movie poster decor that lined the walls. There's only one movie screen as far as I know of, so don't expect a huge building with 20 screens. I mean it is an old building with old wooden doors, brass doorknobs, heavy curtains, and tiny restrooms with exposed pipes. Inside there is a small stage in front of the main screen, available for performers and events. Yes, you can even rent out the venue as well to hold an event. As for seating, the chairs are pretty wide and fairly comfortable. There may have been only about 200 seats, so expect the closeness of audience interactions and the quiet whispers to be heard loud and clear. In short, this old school theater is definitely a historical icon of Portland, with its marquee board changed by hand and little box office up front selling tickets. Come here for homemade movies, B rated films, as well as weird random classics. Just check their website for what's showing. I enjoyed my friend's event and I wouldn't mind seeing another crazy movie here like The Toxic Avenger!
