A calm respite from everything outside

Movies at the airport are a fantastic idea! When you've made it through security without unexpected delays, and find that you have time to kill before your flight, this addition to Terminal C is just the ticket. Or, rather, it doesn't require tickets at all. Just wander in for locally made, short films. Whether you have 15 minutes, or an hour, this will be time well spent.

PDX has been my favorite airport since I first flew into it, some 12 years ago. And it just keeps getting better! This small theater is free. It plays mainly indie/local short films. They are all interesting and family-friendly, without being "for kids". Great dark place to take a load off too, way better than sitting at your gate fighting over powerports!

It opened 2/23/17! Go watch a movie!!

The first microcinema in the country (and possibly the world?), owned and run by the local non-profit Hollywood Theater, has now opened inside Portland International Airport! Anyone with a free minute while waiting for their flight can drop in free of charge to watch shorts, documentaries, animation, and music videos from local filmmakers & artists, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! It's located in the C concourse, just across from the Alaska Air Lounge. **Note, if you already are in the A/B concourse, you do NOT have to exit and go through security again to get to the C concourse - look for the signs that point you to the walkway that takes you straight there! The 18 seats are soft and comfortable, with tons of space between so that ever seat has a great view. Thus far I've identified only 3 downsides: 1) There is no popcorn (the Hollywood Theater has the BEST popcorn in town, so hopefully some day they can bring it to this outpost for the authentic cinema feel), and 2) Since it's past the security checkpoint, only people with boarding passes can check it out. 3) the volume of movies is a bit low, so for most people it's kind of hard to hear especially when other airport sounds are seeping in from outside. Hopefully they can turn it up or put a knob on the wall to let people adjust it. Other than that, this is another wonderful, unique addition to what is already the best airport in the country. Keep it up, PDX!!!

I love Hollywood. I'm a member, but my membership more than pays for itself. When I heard they were opening a space in PDX I was so excited. I bided my time waiting for air travel to come up, and it did today. Hooray! Located in Concourse C, I had to go far out of my gate's way to visit, but I'm glad I did. I saw 3-4 local Portland films before heading back to Concourse D. For not having to pay for movies and having something to do while waiting for a plane to take off, this is pretty awesome. Other than the marquee, this location shares very little with its parent. The room is very modern and sleek, which I guess I should've expected, but it's so different from the vintage and...erm...falling apartedness of the original. The room is small, seating maybe 15, and it seems like most people pass it by without paying much notice. Because most travelers are unfamiliar, they probably don't know they can enter for free and just watch. I'm so torn between wanting to get the word out there and wanting to ensure I'll have a seat!

Free short films by gate C1!

It's expensive but you're paying for the experience and I'd say it's worth it once in a while. I saw 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple here, kind of a weird choice for a movie theatre where you eat dinner- it was pretty gnarly. The good: -couches/comfy seating -actual food -friendly staff -neat atmosphere The less good but not necessarily bad: -having to wait to be brought to the theatre by a host -much more expensive than a regular movie theatre -no cherry coke (but they do offer a Roy Rodgers) -the popcorn is REALLY buttery which is cool if you're into that but I was overwhelmed by the sogginess

One thing that is neither positive nor negative is the sound in the theater, while it is very clear it is also extremely loud. I am not typically someone with sensitive hearing but if you are on either far side of the theater please prep like you're going to be right in front of speakers at a large concert (I have started to bring ear buds with noise cancelling due to the ear/head pain from sitting nearer to the walls). The positives: great film quality, comfortable seating, easy to purchase tickets. The cons: pricey menu that I have yet to feel is worth the price poin for the quality of food you recieve (also specials are rushed through before sitting), cleanliness of seating has been 50/50, parking availability can be difficult, each time we have gone food timing feels disruptive to the film. The last film we saw (Scream 7) food was still being delivered to people with 20 minutes left of the film.

We did not get our appetizer but had to ask about it. Our waiter did not address until we did... So that was a bust. We did not see our waiter again as another lady took over. Not sure why. Anyway, the food was alright, nothing crazy, nothing too impressive. We ordered drinks at one of the rooms that was also closing at 10pm. The lady was taking our order when her friends showed up and she decided to greet and talk to them in the middle of me ordering. That's right, she literally stopped listening to me and started talking to them. She did a little, "oh I'm sorry" but definitely felt the ick. Weird vibes from that place and the restaurant. The Boiler Room was the best place cause it stayed open late and the vibes were chill. Ordered a few drinks that were delivered to us since the bar is downstairs & our table was at the top. Cool room and decor.

Stoned or just unclear about his customer-facing job description? Who knows. Anyhoo, Decent menu, with burgers, salads, sandos and pizzas (small). You have to order away from the bar, weirdly, then pick up and bring your food into the theatre. Unwieldy. It's a bit spendy for what you get food-wise, though that seems to be the case everywhere these days. I like this place but haven't been in years so am happy to reconnect. Comfy seating in the theatre but screens are a bit dated. I will say the sound was pretty good. A decent movie-going experience with good enough food and drinks. Parking can be a bitch in this neighborhood though, with the new rules.

The bartender who took our order didn't write it down as he was taking it, which always makes me wonder if they will remember it correctly. He didn't. Carelessness. The bartender asked us which auditorium and our seat number and we were told that it would be delivered to our seats. Still no food an hour and 15 minutes into the movie so my partner went to check on it. He was told that they couldn't find us, which makes no sense unless the bartender entered the seats wrong. The cost was refunded but no dinner for us. Other than that the auditorium and seats are pretty nice but not better than any other theater. I doubt that I'll go back.
