Granted the rehab is in another building, but this is what you're greeted with first. Half the building is used for long term care, the other half abandoned. Walked into rehab building, doors not locked, no one at the from desk or any of the offices. I wandered the halls on my own.... Sleeping patients, open doors, no security, I could have walked into any room and taken whatever and no one would have stopped me. 45 minutes later someone finally showed up in the lobby.

The rooms are horrific. Looks like a psych ward

I would give this place negitive 5 if possible. My father has been to this place twice now. The first time was short term and went okay. I think they switched management because this time was a nightmare. My father is a stroke patient with a paralyzed left side. He has cognitive issues. He also is a dyalisis patient and has both his kidneys removed. He fell and broke his femur bone. He has a external cast which is made of two metal rods which hold his leg straight. This place reached out to me and told me my father wasn't making any progress so they wanted to discharge him. I expected them to realize that he would not be able to return home do to the fact that he has a broken leg. It was a no brainer to me that my dad can't make progress until his cast is removed and healed. I thought they would let him stay and then once cast was off they would do physical therapy to gain his strength back in the leg. Well, that

The residents and staff are welcoming to people who move to Portland from out of state and it is easy to connect and make new friendships. I love the fact that there are athletic classes in the building that are easily accessible, so that people have the opportunity to stay fit if they choose. Each unit has a lovely kitchen, so residents can choose to cook for themselves or dine in either the Bistro, which is open to the public, or the very elegant dining room on the 24th floor. This isn't a nursing home, so there isn't an activities director, but there are many organized activities, like mah jongg and bridge, movie nights and shuttles to shopping and cultural events. There is even a wood shop and an art studio. The second floor is a different situation. It is mainly filled with people who are transitioning from hospital care until they are ready to return home again. For them, it is a classy but temporary situation that is independent so it isn't practical to compare it to the full time Mirabella system. In praise of the staff, I am so moved by the devotion of some of the people who work at Mirabella. Many of the maintenance people and food servers are so kind and respectful to the residents, some who navigate through their lives with health challenges. In my opinion, this is the perfect living situation for this population and I am so grateful that my parents chose to make their home here.

She's been very happy there and loves all the staff who seem so kind and loving. Our favorite is Mercedes and her daughter Lana. I also want to note that their meals are not expensive. Some people prefer quantity over quality. Your safest bets are the salads, avocado toast, soups, and fruit bowls. Part of my frustration with Cherrywood is that its a retirement home and the residents don't have a choice where to eat most days. At least this is true for those who can't easily travel. So the meals should be appetizing and inviting. There is a culinary director but somehow he claims to not be involved in culinary matters. I want that job. However, one would think the culinary director would offer to forward your concerns. This doesn't happen. The culinary director is NOT the chef. The chef and his staff try really hard. You usually won't find the culinary director. I don't see him helping when there is a rush, he has never greeted me or seated us where there is a line, and I assume he is usually in his office. One does see him on the family events. So he isn't totally invisible. Sounds like Cherrywood needs a culinary director who is responsible for improving the dining experience in their restaurant willing to greet guests. As stated before, Cherrywood caters to 7th Day Adventists and they are vegetarian. Their vegetarian selections are hopefully getting better. They were not really good before. The worst meal I had there was at the last Thanksgiving. That veggie meal included two slices of fake turkey. Think bologna or spam for Thanksgiving. As a comparison one of their competitors offers a nice salmon dinner every day as an option. Cherrywood offers this maybe once a week. Just saying other retirement homes offer better food services. I hope things get better.

Staff turnover is high, and communication is often inconsistent. Resident concerns -- even those related to comfort, accessibility, or safety -- can be quietly overridden by leadership without explanation. Much of the decision-making appears to rest with a single individual whose personal preferences outweigh resident input. If your expectations don't match his vision, changes are unlikely, regardless of broader support. The community promotes an image of inclusivity, but in practice, respect and consideration seem to be limited to select groups. The lack of regard shown toward surrounding neighbors and the broader community is striking -- a sense of entitlement permeates interactions, and staff behavior has, at times, been deeply concerning. In one instance, I witnessed an employee act aggressively in public with no evident consequences. Attempts to raise the issue went unanswered, raising doubts about internal accountability. Prospective residents and families may want to ask detailed questions about staff conduct, resident influence, and how inclusive the environment truly feels on a daily basis -- not just in marketing materials. For a place at this price point, consistency, transparency, and mutual respect should be a given.
