I came here for my sister's graduation dinner in May 2018. I noticed a few other graduates inside, wearing their graduation robe, so this seems to be a popular spot in Dupont circle for large groups. This restaurant is LARGE and I had no idea how large it was until I walked in. It is perfect for parties and events. Walking inside feels like a party in itself due to the crowd (noise) but that didn't affect me at all. I ordered the fish tacos which didn't have a ton of flavour but it was still good. I believe it was the sauce on top that I didn't like so much or maybe I was just having an off food day (rare because I LOVE to eat...lol). The guacamole on the side was delicious though. Overall, no complaints. Service was good considering the large amounts of people in there that day (it was a Thursday evening on May 17th). Haven't been here in a about 10 years, glad so see nothing's changed! This was the cinco de Mayo and taco Tuesday spot in u undergrad ! They were known for having the best frozen margaritas and I vowed never to eat Mexican food outside of Mexico--this place is the exception! Literally, the only other place I'll have Mexican food is here! Lots of f&b businesses struggle to maintain the balance between fine-dining and authenticity. This place does a great job at mastering that balance! My favorite items are the skirt steak, fried plantain and of course their frozen margaritas. I didn't have those this time around but they looked tasty on everyone else's table. My guest and I had the shrimp tacos, seasonal oysters and crab stuffed lobster. All of them were great choices. I like to think of Lauriol Plaza as a spot you'd find out in the suburbs... with its huge space and large portions and overall hustle and bustle... except it's not and sits at the corner of 18th and T lol. Not my first choice for dinner or vibe, but I can see the appeal. Sizzling plates, large margaritas of any type, tables long enough to accommodate parties of 17 with no reservations (yep, that was us). This is generally a large and popular Mexican restaurant in adams Morgan. I tend to stay away during normal times as it seems like a tourist trap type of place. However when we decided to go for Mexican to our favorite place, we found it closed for the day so we ended up here. The place has lots of outdoor space but they were all taken. We therefore took a chance and went inside for lunch. With Covid still raging, we prefer to eat outside. The place is very large with two floors of seating in addition to the outside space. It's nicely decorated and the service was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the food was just okay. Not terrible, but nothing special. Basically fine as a touristy place and great if you like frozen margaritas (I don't consider that a real drink). But if you are looking for really good authentic Mexican food, this will be a little disappointing. read more

I've had this place bookmarked for a while but always missed out on going during my numerous DC trips. This time I was able to drop in during lunch time on a Friday and it was well worth it. I arrived around 2:30pm and there was plenty of seating inside and outside. The upstairs rooftop was not open, not sure if they open it after a specific time or if it just was not open this particular day. I ended up sitting outside in the front of the restaurant so I could enjoy the sunny wether and people watch. They do have a lunch menu with a few food options at cheaper prices. I opted for one with chicken, beef, shrimp, rice, guac, and veggies. The chicken was amazing. Seasoned well and super juicy. The beef was somewhat dry and also had a weird taste. I tried a few bites but could not finish it, not sure what it was. The shrimp were good but slightly tip-toeing the line of cooked and over cooked. Overall it was an enjoyable dish, but next time I may stick with just chicken. I had a strawberry lime margarita which was very good, and also very popular because looking around I saw lots of people with it. I love this restaurant! I've been coming here since I was a little girl with my family and recently brought my best friend for her birthday. The staff is so kind and courteous and went the extra mile to make my friends birthday one to remember. First things first, make sure to start with a pitcher of their Delicious MARGARITAS. They give you free chips and salsa. Their chips are the definition of perfect restaurant chip: warm, thin, and crunchy! The salsa is out of this world I really enjoy the smokiness to it! They must roast the veggies before adding them to the brilliant concoction. I recommend the lamb fajitas. Of all the plates I've had here over the years, that is the one I identify to Lauriol Plaza. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas and it was so refreshing. Not too strong, not too weak...just right. For my main, I ordered the Laredo Platter - chicken and beef enchiladas and a chicken taco. The food was phenomenal and I enjoyed my leftovers the next day even more. As we were packing up our leftovers, I kindly asked our waiter to bring me a bag of chips and he gladly did! The tacos came out cold and ill prepared (onions even though I said no onion). The enchilada was made wrong, or they included onions which I had never had before. Out came a big bowl of broth with two little pieces of corn and about five pieces of squash and carrots. This dish was between $8 and $9. So basically, I paid for broth. Then we ordered the half chicken with Tamarind Sauce another special. Can half a chicken have only dark meat? We sent that back bc we said that one person didn't eat dark meat when we ordered. We asked for the manager who acknowledged that a half chicken should have breast, but apparently they are going as cheap as possible--no breast available. The manager never considered comping anything. So we shared a salad and one order of rice and beans Total price ? approximately $30. They will NEVER see me again. Sad. This was once a great place. This place never disappoints. They are consistent in customer service. From the time you walk in your will always be greeted with a warm greeting and smile. They seat quickly even if it's a packed house. I love all of the food they served and let me tell you they have the best margaritas of all time. They even have free parking in a lot behind the building on the side. It gets full fast doe. Anyhow I love sitting up on the very top level during the summer and on the first level during the winter. Lauriol is ALWAYS a good time! They recently Re-opened since the corona pandemic and they are accommodating guests with 2 areas of outdoor seating. I made reservations for 9pm and was able to get seated immediately on a Friday evening. Even though my party was a bit late, they were very accommodating. We each ordered the Combo Fajitas which came with chicken, shrimp, and beef as protein. It also came with a guacamole, pico de gallo, onions, and tortillas. The fajitas were pretty good. The chicken was my favorite. The beef wasn't very seasoned but, the meat was very juicy. It also wasn't well done, which I enjoyed. The shrimp wasn't that tender and was a little rubbery in my opinion. If I were to return, I would just get the chicken fajitas instead of the combo. We also ordered a pitcher. We couldn't decide on one flavor so we did a swirl with a frozen mango margarita and a frozen strawberry margarita. It was pretty good and mixed well. The pitcher was overpriced for the amount you receive. We would have been better off getting separate drinks, it would have been cheaper and made more sense. My friend ordered the flan for me as a treat for my birthday. I've personally never had flan before. It tasted like coffee with caramel and custard. The texture threw me off and it was just okay in my opinion. The bottom part of the flan was terrible. Because the caramel hardens at the bottom, it become crusty and weird. It wasn't pleasant. It did come with a bit of whipped cream which turned an ok flan to a pretty good one. It was interesting but I probably wouldn't get again since I was not a fan of the texture. Definitely has delicious food but the prices are a bit high for many Mexican restaurants I've been in. On the nice side you can order a single enchilada or taco or get a full plate of three with all the fixings. I had the Brazil salad $13 but did not add the chicken $6. It was very nice. was visiting for a conference and the group picked this restaurant. upon entry it has a nice ambiance and it a pretty restaurant. smells slightly weird upon entry but nonetheless. ordered salsa, drinks and entrees which came out quick. i ordered the grilled chicken (not shredded) chimichangas and they were delicious. expected a white crema sauce as the menu listed but was informed they do not have a white queso, only the yellow cheese sauce/queso that was previously brought to the table. no worries, used the yellow cheese and my meal was still delicious. entree came with beans and rice, both delicious. would return based on food and service. read more

I love Lariol and have been coming since 2008. I haven't been here in over 4 years and decided to venture out. We made a reservation as it is usually packed. We arrived and used to be able to park in the back but now they have it as an overflow outdoor seating area. We luckily found street parking on the same block. Arrived and were seated outside in the front of the building with no problem. It was pretty crowded inside and people were waiting out front. Our waiter was Jorge M and he has amazing energy and service! We ordered a frozen margarita swirl pitcher with Mango and Lime mixed together. We both ordered the shrimp with salmon. It came with a creamy flavorful sauce, plantains, veggies, white rice and black beans. All of this and our bill was less than $100. I am glad that the menu and food are still amazing. I came here this Saturday with family, and I would say that it was satisfactory experience overall. The restaurant is very covid friendly and provides hand wipes for the table upon arrival. The service was also very quick and the prices were GREAT. In terms of food, I ordered the mussels as an appetizer which I shared with one other person (it also came with a complimentary slice of toast). The dish was quite good, however the portion was a bit on the smaller side. I ordered the chicken quesadilla for my main, which was mediocre in my opinion. This is a great place if you're looking for what can be called "authentically Tex-Mex" experience. The place is spacious, bright, clean, and upscale without feeling "extra". A pitcher will run you up nearly $30, but it serves somewhere between 4-5 people depending on how thirsty y'all are. Nothing too strong, good lime taste to it, and a nice frozen consistency that slowly melts out into liquid. Though the menu leans heavy into the meats, there is enough here for any aspiring or verified vegetarian to satisfy their hunger. Today I write on my meat menu. Let's talk about their carne asada fajitas! Do yourself a favor and order it & order it medium-rare. It'll come out steaming and underneath it cooking ever so delightfully will be the peppers, onions, tomatoes you'll want to pile high into the flour tortillas that also, come out steaming. I mean, even the rice and beans here are good - even as left overs! Costs extra for sour cream, but you may/not want it (I found it to be a nice addition). I couldn't finish my plate (must've been all those tortillas), and they were nice enough to pack it up for left-overs. My dining partner loved her chilles rellenos with beef, but I couldn't comment beyond that. Looked to be generous stuffing and good cheese without overdoing it into a swampy mess. As it was my birthday on our last dining occasion, we were gifted a free flan - shareable size. Cue the singing and the candle. I'm not the world's biggest flan lover, so two bites was enough for me; however, the rest of the plate was hoovered up rapidly. There was a nice quality to the flan though, and I'd be happy to recommend it. I think you eat well here, you'll not have to eat again that day. Be prepare to take a nap afterwards! This is a great place to bring an aspiring employee for a lunch-interview, a date you're trying to impress, or with the kids for a family-friendly affair. I was with a group of 12, and our table placement could've been better., however it was on a busy Friday night. Our waitress was phenomenal and very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. We happened upon this place while walking around. Are we glad we did! It serves Mexican food. Has a nice outdoor area where we were seated. Great service, although our waiter spoke brojen English, he did get our order correct. We were served freah tortilla chips and a homemade salsa that was very good. I had tacos, mexican rice and beans. My husbband had chicken flautas. Both meals were served quickly, were hot and fresh. Good portion sizes. Both were delicious. Would definitely return. read more

Stumbled on this place on a Saturday afternoon. I was drawn by the liveliness and energy of patio section. I ordered the lunch special, lamb fajitas. I asked for the meat to be cooked medium, but it delivered well-done. The meat was so dry that it was as chewy as jerky. The rice was also tasteless and undercooked. I did however enjoy the beans, pico de gallo, and guacamole. Another plus was the attentive service and red sangria. For the price point, I do not recommend coming here. Wow! So lucky to have found this place ! It's sometimes difficult finding vegan food at a non vegan restaurant but the veggie fajitas are truly amazing. Lots of fresh veggies with rice and beans. The guacamole and salsa are fresh and delish. Skinny margarita is nice and light and full of lime juice. The other folks who are eating meat dishes won't put their forks down!
