When I called to discuss the person on the phone said no one was there to remedy the situation. She said she would get back to me before the end of the day and she did not. My daughter was totally taken advantage of and this was very unethical. They advertise transparency on their website but that was definitely not our experience. Buyer beware. Very disappointed in their lack of attention to make this right. Instead a received a text saying that she consulted my daughter before doing the root smudge. Never were these words used and never did Rylie tell her this was an additional cost to whatever she supposedly did. Her hair doesn't even look different from when she went it. Crooks.

This is also due to the fact there wasn't an apology. I was at the salon from approximately 12:40 p.m. until around 8:35 p.m. the other week for a partial (halo) color service, not a full-head color. Unfortunately, the results were not what we discussed. The purple turned out blue/teal, and the black was not carried through the rest of my hair, leaving uneven brown sections and noticeable banding. My hair was also left extremely dry, damaged, and breaking off in clumps. What's crazy is that even Eden acknowledged it was blue. At that point I just wanted out of the salon. Before leaving this review, I tried to resolve my concerns privately. I contacted the salon to get in touch with my stylist, and after not hearing back, I had to find her contact information through Instagram. I reached out to her directly, and although my message was read last Friday, I never received a response or even an apology. Edit: Instead of them responding and taking accountability or communicating, they blocked me on Instagram! I also later discovered I had been filmed in the background of the salon's social media content without being informed beforehand, which made me uncomfortable. My stylist Eden was kind during the appointment, but after spending nearly eight hours in the salon and paying over $500, I expected a much higher quality result and better communication afterward. I now have to pay another salon to color my hair black and begin repairing the damage. I've been embarrassed to be outside with my hair as everyone I've shown has mentioned how bad it looks. I had spent so long getting my hair to a healthy place and now I'm having to go through this. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend paying this amount for these results or even going to Coven, and I will not be returning.

I have primarily used sugaring for my hair removal services because I have found it more comfortable to go through when compared to the use of hot wax. I have stayed with Christina for so many years because she is so attentive during the sessions, as well as very thorough. I have seen her grow her studio from a tiny space with few retail offerings to a larger spa-like atmosphere offering a variety of services in addition to just sugaring. The studio is exceptionally clean, and Christina has always been very conscious of this aspect, particularly around the pandemic restrictions we all operated under for several years. Christina and her staff are very present to clients and strive to offer extras - flavored waters, hot teas, cups of snacks, soft lighting and music - that make each visit seem like a small spa escape. They make sure clients are aware of recommendations for post-sugaring care and offer products from their own stock for purchase. All the products carried at the studio are high quality, all natural products that Christina and her staff have used and can confidently recommend. All of these things are "value adds" to the overall experience.

I mentioned that and she said she remembers everybody! She's been waxing for years too. She is new to Charleston, but she waxed in New Jersey for a while before moving here. Come check out her space. The outside has a cool mural that looks like a monopoly board but made with Charleston related things like the Arthur Ravenel Bridge and the Pineapple Fountain. You go thru a door on the ground level that leads to a set of stairs. The suite is on the second floor. It's a cute little room she rents out in the building. I like the way she waxes me. She is a pro! Both times she waxed me so far, I haven't gotten any ingrowns. I get them a lot, so that's a great achievement. I would definitely recommend hiring Brittany to do your next wax. If you're comfortable with yourself, however, this is the bomb. Just know that depending on what you're having sugared, it's going to get personal! Despite that, once you relax, this is amazing. It doesn't feel amazing---regardless of how it's happening, you're still ripping hair out at the root. But after going on the regular, your skin will get less sensitive to it. Summer is great and will make you feel super comfortable. She will chat with you the entire time and you'll probably forget that you're not wearing any pants. I'd highly recommend giving Summer a try. If you hate shaving, this place is for you!

Update: Shortly after posting this review, I received a call from Lava's manager. She was very apologetic and we discussed the incident further. She offered several options to remediate the situation and we came to an agreement on a resolution. While I stand by my review and experience here, I am satisfied with the actions taken to right this situation. After wanting pastel hair for over a year, I decided to take the plunge and booked a consultation with Jackie at Lava. I showed her the images I wanted which were a pastel mauve. We found the original source of the images and she stated she had not used that formula before but could order it. We discussed researching a formula video so that I could get the exact look of the images. I found one that night and emailed it to her. The following week I had my appointment and my hair ended up being a silvery lavender color. It was very pretty, so I wasn't concerned with it not being the mauve color HOWEVER it almost completely washed out after the first wash. Jackie was very accommodating at first and stated I could come back so she can add in more color to make it the mauve I had been requesting. During my second visit, she went over the colors she was going to use and I asked if she could add some pink to it so it would definitely be mauve and not just purple. She said she would add a red gloss over it so we could achieve that look. My hair did not turn out mauve- it turned out bright red. Under the poor lighting in their salon, I knew it wasn't what I wanted but it didn't look that bad. It wasn't until I went to my car in natural light that I saw how awful it looked. It was as if the 4 hour bleaching process from my first visit hadn't even taken place. I immediately washed my hair and was able to get most of the red out so it ended up a mousy brown. The next morning I emailed the salon with pictures of my hair and asked what could be done. Jackie called me back incredibly defensive and blamed ME for it how came out. She made excuses saying that I was the one who found the formula video and that since she had never used that formula before, she couldn't guarantee the results (she never said that in our consultation). She ultimately said she would speak with her manager about it and call me back within a week. It's been over three weeks since then and I've heard nothing. In total, I spent over $500 for my hair to now be a beige blonde. read more

I have know Geoff since middle school and when I heard he was a hair stylist I knew that is where I needed to go! I live in Columbia, but come to visit often so I went for my first appointment this week ( March 22nd). They were so easy to work with and scheduling my appointment. I had car trouble on the way down so they helped me out by giving me another time and their no hassle about it. If you have never met Geoff or his wife you need to. Not only are they great stylest but they are wonderful people as well. They live in the community and love to help support the area!! I am a stay at home mom so I want a hair cut that is very easy to style, but something that makes me look young and fun. Geoff showed me lots of pictures and helped me with a great color and a cut that is very easy to style yet it was fun and young looking. I had a wonderful experience at Lava Salon and will go back next time I am in town. The price was VERY reasonable for what I received and truly having a great cut and color is priceless! Geoff is a great artist so I knew I would get a great cut and faboulous color!! My sister loved my hair so much that she wants an appointment for herself! If you need a change in stylist or just looking for a new hair salon I really can not say enough about Lava. The atmosphere is great and they seem to have agreat time working together. After years of searching for a salon I could trust, I finally found my hair heaven in a spectacular little place called Lava Salon! Having never been completely satisfied with my hair, I had constantly skipped around from salon to salon. I always dreamed of the possibility of finding a place that could fulfill my one single cosmetic vice: my hair. It would seem a decent salon wouldn't be a hard thing to find. There are, after all, hundreds to choose from in the Charleston area alone; however, for those who take their hair seriously, it truly is a daunting task. It doesn't have to be anymore, though. Lava Salon can make all your hair prayers come true ... and MORE! Not only have I never been happier with my hair (both cut and color), I have never received so many compliments on it. On top of that, I have made new friends (the crew at Lava couldn't be friendlier or cooler), especially Sarah, my holy hair angel! I don't just leave my Lava visits with an amazing cut and beautiful color but also with a fantastic disposition. I had read the reviews on various salons in Charleston, and after a few failed attempts, chose Lava Salon. I have never colored my own hair so expectations are high, and to top it off I am post chemo which left my hair curly in some spots, thinning in others and a giant mane of frizz. I didn't have high hopes although anything could be better than what the past two salons had done. But let me tell you, after the magic Parker did on me, I left feeling AND LOOKING like Cinderella!!! She has a special talent that all of you would be best served experiencing yourself, as I cannot possibly list all the areas she excelled in. Her assessment and suggestions were spot on and she produced exactly what she projected. I half expected to wake up this morning looking as I did yesterday, (pre transformation) because I can never mimic what the stylist has done. But don't believe the fairytale!!!! I went through a lot of local salons and a lot of bad haircuts before someone recommended Geoff at Lava - I've had a couple of appointments with him since then and I've been happy each time. Geoff actually listens to my input, instead of just giving me the cut he thinks will look good- I don't use product and I don't even own a hairbrush, yet the cut always looks good when I leave, and I get a lot of compliments. Great environment, great employees - Geoff and the rest of the staff are very friendly, but utmost professionals - They don't overbook, I don't have to wait 20 minutes for him to finish up with the last client, and I'm not rushed out the door to make room for the next. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. As a guy I think it's hard to get a consistently good haircut around here - I always recommend Lava to people now. read more

I had my first visit to Lava on 4/16/11 and I cannot say enough good things about this salon! As soon as I walked in and saw the funky artwork and paintings on the walls, I knew it was going to be a fun experience. It didn't take long before it felt like I'd been going there for years. Colleen was my stylist and she was WONDERFUL! I pointed out a few things about my cut and told her to choose the highlights and I truly believe I got one of the best cuts, colors & styles I've ever had! I've had nothing but compliment after compliment on my hair. I have very short hair and sometimes you don't get exactly what you expect, but this time around, it surpassed my expectations. I LOVE Lava Salon!! I can not say enough amazing things about this place, its one of the coolest places i have ever been with the coolest people. Katie knocks it out of the park with her style and skills. I came to Katie as a train wreck my hair was a disaster thanks to a so called neighbor claiming to be a stylist. my hair was multiple colors and I have very thick and long hair so even on the best days my hair is a chore. From day one Katie had a plan and let me know exactly what it was going to take to get my hair the way I wanted. It takes 3 to 3.5 hours to do my hair each visit and Katie is very patient and never complains about how long it takes, she just smiles and up beat as any body I have ever meet. My sister and I were headed upstairs to get some waxing done at Anne Bonny (also amazing). Luckily my sister, who was in town visiting me, asked how the salon was downstairs. The girl said they were amazing ,and that we had to have Colleen cut our hair. After we left, we headed right to lava salon and made our appointments. Now, we both have rockstar hair, her's curly and mine wavy....Colleen rocked it out. And may I add that we were VERY entertained the entire time we were there. I have been going to Casey for a little over a year now and can truly say I will never be going to anyone else! My hair is not easy to work with and Casey has colored and cut it seamlessly. I love having long hair and hate getting haircuts, but Casey somehow manages to cut my hair and get rid of the split ends without me even noticing a difference in length! I most recently just got a keratin treatment and am so glad that Casey talked me into it because it was the best decision EVER! She is extremely knowledgeable in all things hair, including products and tools which I now stand behind 100% after getting her recommendations. I absolutely love this salon! I have lived in Charleston now for 7 years and Lava is the only salon that I have returned to more than once. The owners, Geoff and Noel are wonderful, as is everyone else in the salon. Noel always does my hair and I have never had any complaints or qualms. I get compliments all the time on her cuts. I also love that when I go to Lava everyone is friendly and not at all snobby, unlike many other salons in the area. I never feel pressured to purchase products or upgrade my service, also unlike other salons. While a cut can be a bit pricey, I fee that my hair is worth it! It's also great to be able to support a LOCAL salon. A definite must! read more

This girl knows her stuff....and will work to get you the way you would like to look! She has been cutting and coloring my hair for 8 years now and I am missing her! I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Casey at the Lava Salon. She was so passionate about helping me figure out a plan to encourage healthy hair growth, and then gave me an amazing cut that masked my current hair loss. I wanted something that would encourage my natural wavy texture, and she did JUST THAT!! She didn't make me feel like an inconvenience even though I was the last customer of the day. I really felt like her most important client and this is my very first appointment with her...but absolutely not my last! Love, love, LOVE this place! read more

This was my first visit to Lava Salon. They are currently in the middle of a transition with changing locations. My stylist name was Cyndee Agullana and she performed above and beyond my expectations. I asked for a very specific color as well as subtle ashy highlights that reflected the cool tones in my hair. I had a vision and she made it happen. She also did an amazing job when styling my hair...she created these perfect waves that I didn't even know my hair was capable of doing. I've tried a few different salons in the area since moving to Charleston in 2009. I thought I'd find the best service downtown, but I noticed I was being overcharged and being pushed like cattle. (Maybe this was part of the "Allure"?) I was so happy to discover Lava. Not only are the stylists experts, but the owners make a constant focus on supporting other businesses in the Avondale area. The staff here, particularly the owner, is very rude! I had a bad experience and went back against my better judgment and was let down again. I will NEVER go back and recommend going to Stella Nova instead! The stylists at Stella Nova are way more professional and educated. read more

Finding someone who can nail the color your looking for can be hard but she gets it every time. Beyond being a talented stylist, she's incredibly fun to talk to and makes the entire appointment fly by. If you're looking for someone who specializes in bold colors and creative cuts, I can't recommend her enough. The salon itself has a fantastic New York subway vibe the decor the owners put together is unique and adds so much character to the space. The owners are often around and are always super friendly and welcoming. Truly a great spot with a one-of-a-kind atmosphere!
