The organic beans did their duty, though my nervous system could not tell the difference between these sustainable crops and the regular kind. The drink did its job with no particular ambition. The prices are exactly what you expect when you buy a liquid near expensive historic architecture. There is a five percent surcharge added to the bill. Three percent of it goes to preserving the old station, and two percent goes toward a fair wage fee for the staff. This means you are paying for history and economic justice at the exact same time you are paying for espresso. The staff members moved with the heavy, unhurried rhythm of a long afternoon. Nobody was unkind to me, but nobody seemed terribly excited about the grand human comedy of caffeine distribution either. They simply, eventually, handed over the cups. If you need to drink something before you walk out into Wynkoop Plaza or board a train, this establishment will do. It is fine. Some days, fine is all the universe has on offer.
