Eureka! I've found a great coffee shop in Binghamton! Laveggio certainly lived up to the reviews. Inviting space (how have they resisted adding seating to the ample room), minimalist decor (maybe some local artists could brighten up the open walls), terrific chairs, and last-terrific coffee! Maybe the best cappuccino I've ever had, and blue eyes loved her caffe mocha. Not the slightest bitterness in either, just deep coffee flavor. The staff was pleasant too. The only complaint is that parking can be an issue, but that's not Laveggio's fault, is it? Highly recommended. read more

The coffee was very good, but the only options for morning food were biscotti or molasses cookies. It was kindly explained to me that they don't have a kitchen, so they don't have a lot of food options. But if cookies can be brought in, so can other baked goods. Some muffins or croissants or rolls would be lovely. Or even just breakfast-y cookies, like a granola bar cookie...? Also, a sign outside with the business name would be helpful. By far the best coffee in Binghamton. I stopped by this morning and had an espresso Machiatto Sicilian style (a little more milk) and a house coffee. The espresso was so goood! I felt like I was drinking an espresso with a young Vito Corleone and Clemenza (Bruno Kirby RIP) in GF II. The barista's were extremely nice. I told them I lived in California and we talked coffee roasters and cafes they knew about in No Cal. Heather was super cool and I was impressed she moved from Brooklyn to Binghamton. It's people like her who are making Binghamton a more eclectic place to reside or visit. The views of the courthouse are amazing. This place hands down is where I'm going to get my jolt of good brew in the AM whenever I'm in Binghamton. One side note is I haven't seen so many people dressed in suits and business attire in years as the patrons of this coffee shop, No skinny jean wanna be hipster crowd here which is refreshing. read more

I'd have to disagree with some of the previous reviews stating that the owners are unwelcoming. For sure, Mary-Ann is not the warmest person I've ever met but what are you doing in this place if not only buying coffee? It is, after all, a roasteria, not a café and I've never felt as though Mary-Ann was arrogant, although it may seem like it at first. Soon you come to realize that she and her husband are very knowledgeable in the coffee domain fostered by years of experience and genuinely want you to appreciate the subtleties of coffee that are so often missed by zombies who mechanically dump all sorts of garbage into coffee. I'm not saying that mocha lattes don't have a place in coffee culture. However, when visiting L'Aveggio, don't expect Starbucks. I suggest the lighter roasts. Plain and simple. Sample the roasts that are brewed that day and if you don't know what you like, go with your gut and try a quarter pound of something you've never had before. The best coffee I've ever brewed myself came from L'Aveggio called Monsooned Malabar. There are a couple reasons I'm giving this four stars instead of five: 1. It's rather pricey, especially for a student like me. 2. The baked goods which are out-of-house aren't exceptional. 3. I don't like the espresso. I don't like the flavor. There isn't enough crema for me and it's not a great bang for your buck. I know it's strange, but if you want a great cup of espresso, go to Crêpe Heaven. Their coffee is roasted by L'Aveggio, including their espresso. For some reason though, it's better. Better flavor, better crema, and overall cheaper if I remember correctly. Their crêpes, however, that's another story. If you're looking for some cheaper beans that are close to what L'Aveggio offers, try Tom's on Main. They're not as fresh, and the flavors are not as complex. But the Ethiopian Harrar, the Kenya AA, and the Tip of the Andes all make a great cup. I hope this review helps someone! I've previously given a great review to L'Aveggio, however, my several visits after that initial "5 Stars" have been far less than stellar. I've come to realize that the owners are very, hmm, pretentious. The coffee remains outstanding, however the service is nothing more than a 5 minute visit with someone who looks at you like you're a peon because you are not a coffee roaster. I'm all for keeping things local, and I'm all for adding culture and the availability of artisanal coffee in this area, but I find it unnecessary for the owners to be so arrogant and presumptuous. I would have hoped for owners of an establishment such as this to be warmer and friendlier, and eager to educate its customers, rather than patronize its patrons. My rating remains at 2 stars purely for the quality of their product. read more

I've been here a number of times, and I've purchased drip coffee, straight espresso, and some milk drinks. They've all been excellent! Every time I am back in Binghamton I make a point of stopping in, both for a shot and for a pound of whole bean. The owners are knowledgeable and glad to discuss the coffee, which they roast right there, in the back. As a coffee professional, it is so great to see a place as progressive and quality-focused as L'Aveggio succeeding in a place like Binghamton. The owners, Coe and Mary Ann, are working to make a true coffee house in Binghamton, the kind of place where people come in, stay a while, discuss the issues of the day and debate. Take your time here. Engage with the owners, who are incredibly knowledgeable about coffee and coffee culture. Try something new. The coffee here is absolutely wonderful, and roasted on-site. The lattes are delicious, and the foam is always rich and creamy. OK. I will have corrected the typos on this one (they were varied and many) Once I wanted to get Kenyan AA beans heree, but the owner said that the reason why they did not have them was becuase teh past year was a bad harvest. So they chose not to carry them..... So, in other words, they are serious about their coffee here... Just to back up that claim, I'll add that they also sell some coffee maker cleaner supplies.. I am more of a regualr coffee, than espresso drink person, but I will add that they offer a nutella latte (it's made with a homemade hazelnut syrup nout nutella).. I like teh big window in the back that Patrcik J mentions in his review. There are few sweets to go with your coffee. They have these minii sized brownies at times. read more

Binghamton has remarkably terrible coffee. Even the Starbucks in this area are substantially low in quality and attention to detail. Part of the problem is that many of the folks who make coffee seem to have never actually had a decent cup of coffee thus they don't know to what they are aspiring. This lack of experience leads routinely to scaldingly hot drinks that are tasteless messes and espresso shots that lack that warm crema dimension and rich depth of taste. Don't even get me started about the coffee catastrophes that are served at Binghamton University and their Sodexo legions of barista/orcs. Given this backdrop, Laveggio Roasteria stands out head and shoulders above everyone else in town. If you are from any reasonable urban location (much less from the west coast or Europe) and are visiting town you will find that the coffee here tastes, well, like actual coffee that you like to drink. The staff is friendly, the attention to detail is great and the quality of the product is high. I wish I could come here everyday. It's just downtown (now on state street). Whenever I stop by the experience makes me hopeful for the world and the future of Binghamton as a whole. Sadly I am afforded only enough time to get here on the weekends so I can enjoy the the warmth of good coffee while hanging out with good company. If you are in Binghamton, that should be you, too. The drip coffee is wonderful, roast offered changes more or less daily and you will always have a couple of options to suit your taste. If you want a discussion of the merits and qualities of the different choices then you will absolutely get it. If you just want coffee and don't care what, then you can't go wrong anyways. I give 10 stars to their cold brewed iced coffee. It is worth getting off the highway for if you are just passing through Binghamton. Best iced-coffee I have ever had, best coffee I have ever had period. Only reason to avoid it would be to skip the lifetime of disappointment you will suffer from if you can't get your coffee at L'Aveggio. It's the tops. read more

I was desperately searching for some decent coffee. The coffee that they serve in our hotel, which is an excellent lodging in every other aspect, is not palatable. Went on to Yelp and found this place. What a great coffee shop! I had the Sumatran dark roast, and it was all one could ask for. Served in a large white cup, a dash of half n half, a packet of raw sugar, and voila! I'm in the area for another week and will be back here again, for certain. read more

L'Aveggio Roasteria is a great little coffee shop on Court Street. In my early unemployed days of Binghamton, I would walk this stretch of Court street almost on a daily basis and be saddened by the number of abandoned storefronts. The addition of a coffee shop is HUGE and greatly appreciated. They offer a standard menu of coffee items. The decor is clean and modern. They have great old hardwood floors that contrast nicely with the clean white walls and high ceilings. I was obsessed with the art deco stone entrance pattern (on the floor when you walk in). So old school. In the back, they have a window where you can look in on their roasting operation. Yes, the do roast their own beans, which is really really cool. And for seating, they have about 5-6 tables. If you're around downtown and need a quick coffee, give L'Aveggio Roasteria a try. read more

I hated coffee, but then I came here. I have always hated coffee. I thought it was bitter and disgusting and never understood how so many people enjoyed it. When I came to L'aveggio I was shown just how good coffee could be. Coe has the highest quality standards for his coffee that I have ever seen. Everything they serve is roasted on site (they have a window into the roasting room) and not more than a week old. Everything is always very fresh. I highly suggest drinking their coffee black. It's so naturally flavorful that you really don't need to add anything to it. In fact adding anything to the coffee would dilute the complex flavors Coe is able to create in his roasting process. Coe tastes every single coffee before it is served to customers to make sure it is up to standards. They don't mess around here. Mary Ann is very pleasant and will give you tastes of whatever you like so you can make your decision before she rings you up. She, like Coe, is very knowledgeable about coffee and will be able to really help you out with your selection. It's really refreshing to go to a place where the people are so passionate about the product they serve. It's really one of the biggest draws to this place for me. The atmosphere of the place is really nice too. It's very open and clean and as I mentioned before you can look through a window in the store to the roasting room where Coe is oven sitting right next to his machine roasting a batch of coffee. He does everything by hand, no automation. Whenever any of my friends is looking for coffee, I direct them here. Once in a while when I want a coffee, this is the only place I will go. read more

Best coffee in the Triple Cities! By far! :) In addition to the regular coffee, try the cafe latter, mocha latte, or hot chocolate - it's better than what you can get from most Lower Manhattan cafes. They also carry a large selection of teas and delectable pastries (especially the mini apple/blueberry pies for just $2.50). I love this little shop! My friend and I tried our best to explore every coffee shop in Binghamton while we attended college there, and this was definitely one of our most memorable experiences. Mostly because, when you walk in, theres such an antique and cozy home-style vibe, and it really attracts you/draws you in. For a town with 15,000 students, the coffee options (beans and hang outs) in Binghamton are almost nil (if you don't count Starbucks, which I do not.) But do not fear: outstanding coffee and fresh roasted beans can be found among the post-apocalyptic wreckage that is (currently) downtown Binghamton (I think I saw the torso of the Statue of Liberty sticking out of the street a couple blocks down). After enjoying a few brewed items at the store, I bought a pound of whole Guatemalan beans and my crappy home espresso machine and I have never been happier. This is truly artisanal coffee. As far as the "coffee house" aspect of L'Aveggio goes, yes: it's not much. They could work on that if that's their goal, which, I suspect, it's not (no Internet, comfy couches, etc). For the record, the best coffee I've ever had was at Italian cafes that don't even have seats. You order at the counter (as in a bar), slop in your sugar from a silver bowl, and down your coffee while it's HOT. Maybe that's what L'Aveggio is going for. had such a craving for a solid cup of coffee (the archer farms house blend in my fridge wouldn't suffice) and, boy oh boy, did l'aveggio deliver. nothing fancy- just a cup of the mild brew of the day. really flavorful, not bitter, smooth coffee for my mid-morning. a tad pricey ($2.25 for a medium cup) but quality is there so I cant complain. happy to have found this place! read more
