I hired Sam and team to work on the sidewall of my home which was made of concrete due to leakage into the home. It wasn't a lot, but it was enough that it needed to be fixed. The leak happens when it rains. Initially when I had Sam come by the home, he immediately took a look and noticed that the leak was happening because of the "alleyway" concrete (an area between my home and my neighbors) was sloped towards my home. He recommended we re-slope that section of the concrete and fix the concrete in front of the house as well since the concrete was cracked (note: also there was an entry point for water to come into the home) Overall good experience and I appreciate the locally owned business and the fact that he's had over 30+ years of experience. He knows what he's good at and that's what he focuses on versus trying to do too much. The work was done fast and efficient. We're expecting a big rainfall the next 3-4 days so I'll be able to see if the work he did fixed the issue and I can make a quick update here. read more

Talk to Sam or Lavu. They did a huge project (for me), came in to work 1/3 done by another terrible contractor, started the next day on a handshake and a simple one page contract, completed the work and did more than I expected for what I paid. In addition they put in new irrigation and new grass. And then when I had my plants ready to plant, they let me pay two of their crew to come on a Saturday and dig and plant. And that went well. They also did a retaining wall, french drains, painted the concrete to match my backyard and kept the work area clean and neat. I did find it easier in this economy to get contractors to call me back, but in the end you have to go with someone you trust and feel will do a great job. My wife had a good feeling about Lavu, and I called 15 references (from his huge book of reference customers) and they all glowed about him. He has a nice attention to detail, and the owners spend a lot of time on-site. I hired Sam last month to cement part of my backyard in Daly City, so I can put up a shed. He came over to look at my yard, which was uneven. He said he would have to even up the area where he would put the concrete pad. He gave me a good estimate , and he was able to start the project after a few days. He was efficient and trustworthy. Sam did a great job! He also suggested making a pathway to the shed, which was a great idea. The concrete pad turned out great. He did an excellent job with the pathway , even added a texture to the concrete so it would not be slippery...looks very nice. I would hire Sam again for future projects! read more

We had a really bad experience with this company. I would definitely look elsewhere. They poured concrete in my driveway and extended my front porch with concrete and tile. The lines from the stamps on the driveway are not straight which bothers me every time I look at it. The porch they extended is falling into the front yard. The tiles have almost all come lose. It was just a very poor installation. I called them several times to come look at their work and they never responded. This is after they spent a week at my house working and getting to know us. I was very surprised and upset at their nonresponse. Finally someone came to the house after I hounded for a year. The response was it wasn't their fault the porch was sinking and the tiles were cracking and falling off. I even offered to split the cost of fixing something they did poorly and their answer was no. I was appalled. I just think a company should stand by their work and not cower like cowards when there are mistakes to be faced and fixed. read more

DO NOT EVEN TALK TO THIS GUY!!!!!!!!! He goes by a lot of names such as A Quality Concrete, Lavu Construction, and quite a few others. He uses other contractors numbers that are in good standing and doesn't finish the job. He has a lot of excuses as to why he needs more money and simply will not complete it. We had to go to CSLB and the bonding company to collect the bond and currently they are investigating him. He's on the California's Worst of the Worst List, and while he was scamming us he was even found guilty of another law suit. I'm happy that he completed the other jobs that are listed here and quite frankly I'm surprised because he not only abandoned my job but solicited work from a neighbor and did the same thing to them. Be careful and check out what ever contractor number he's using. Call the person listed as the license holder and ask if he is allowed to represent that company. Document that call and when the bid is WAY lower than you expect Watch OUT! You've been warned, steer clear!!!!! read more

I knew our project of resurfacing the second floor balconies with stamped concrete was a tricky one. The concrete has to be light weight, and the clearance below the sliding door frame was so narrow, less than two inches in some places. Some companies rejected me even without looking at the balconies saying they need more clearance to lay concrete (one company told me he needed 4 inches of clearance!!) When I spoke with Sam, I was pretty desperate. You can imagine how relieved I was when Sam came along and told me he could do it. They are very professional and punctual. They finished the job in exact time frame they promised in the first place, or even quicker. Texture of concrete is exactly what I had in mind, and the color Sam picked for me was just perfect! Let me start by saying this is not a critique of Lavu's work. He may be as good as others have said. My issue was with the way in which he communicated with me which led to me not selecting his company. When I first contacted him through Service Magic, he called promptly (was a bit hard to understand but friendly enough) and wanted to come by. He seemed really eager to stop by but would call me at the last minute instead of scheduling ahead. We finally found a good time and he came to look at the patio I wanted. He gave me a quote but it was written on a little slip of paper, no official quote. I took it and told him I would talk to him after my vacation. He said he could do the work while I was away and I said no as I am not comfortable not even being around when work is being done. I found the offer odd. When I returned I asked him for a formal quote. He said he'd put one in my mailbox. About a week went by but no quote. At 8 am on a Saturday morning, I was awoken by my doorbell ringing. It was Lavu asking me if I wanted to have the work done, THAT DAY. He hadn't even checked about pulling permits. By this time I was too uncomfortable with his laissez faire manner of doing business. I told him I wasn't comfortable moving forward and that I wouldn't work with him. He may do great work, but be prepared for some very loose business practices. At your own risk. read more

Yikes! When I read John A.'s review it was like I was on an episode of the Twilight Zone. Did I already review this company? Do I have an alter ego? After a few moments of careful thought I realized the answer to both questions was no. However my experience with Lavu Concrete was almost identical. Like John A, I cannot comment on Lauv's work. We never made it that far. After a few cryptic conversations on the phone, we set up an appointment for Lavu to come take a look at the project. The day came and went and Lavu never showed up. I reran the conversation in my mind. Was there a misunderstanding? I decided to give them another call. Lavu expressed great interest in coming out to bid the project. We set up another appointment. This time when he was not at my home at the agreed upon time I gave him a call. To my dismay, he told me he wasn't going to make it and asked if he could come another day. I suppose if I hadn't called him he would have been a no-show again. I chose to not let Lavu waste another minute of my time not to mention my skepticism about his ability to show up for the job should he be hired. Total waste! read more

I can't say enough about Lavu and his team. He has done 2 projects for me now. The first was a new foundation on a guesthouse that was literally sinking. I had gotten multiple bids to fix the issue and they were either 2-3X as much or I was being told to just tear down the structure and rebuild entirely. Lavu was able to lift up the structure and put in a new slab that tied in to the rest of the existing and non-sinking slab. He was very responsive and completed the work quickly so I could continue the rest of the work. 5 years later it is doing great! 4+ years later I hired him again to address a foundation and drainage issue on my home. The main issue was drainage and he put in a trench/french drain and replaced some steps and other concrete landscaping. His bid came in in the middle I'd say, but his scope of work was much bigger and he did an excellent job for me. I plan to use him again in the future for other work. I paid him for his work as it was completed and never had any issues with him whatsoever. He was much more responsive than past contractors I have used. read more
